Right in the heart of Chinatown we finally have a Maxi's. It's a very small, cramped establishment but the servers ensure you are well taken care of. But warning you will be very close to other customers (like elbow touching close). Tbh it's nyc and I say make a new friend over the delish noodles Their wonton soup is highly recommended so definitely order that. You can add another topping to it and I chose the beef stew which went super well with the flavor of the noodle broth. The duck egg noodles in my Opinion are the best as they soak up the flavor whole heartedly. My partner added the pork ja jiang but unfortunately that doesn't do well as a noodle soup topping - it must be very flavorful on its own though If you are a milk tea person you should try that too! Hong Kong style noodle house, reminds me of Manhattan Mott Street Wonton Garden. The soup broth is exactly that, so yummy reminder of collage days. Maxi's even has the Ja Jiang sweet and sour sauce with slices of meat and mushrooms and vegetables. All very nostalgic for me. This small restaurant has charming small tables with charming noodle soup mural, enter sit where you may, order at counter, pages given, wait at table till pager goes off when order is ready - love the fast service. Believe the hype! Great quality, comforting food here. Thank you for being so excited, doing the work, research & representing Cantonese (Hong Kong) Food! TIP: I'd recommend the Dumplings over the Wontons & Egg vermicelli noodles (very Hong Kong!) Running errands in the neighborhood on the New Year & finally tried Maxi's Noodle! Was originally going to the second location further down Main Street (easy by subway to Queens Center Mall + bus drops off 1 block away), but decided to the 7 instead. The restaurant is a 5-7min walk from the subway station. I got there 3pm & it was still very busy (outside of regular lunch hours). There was a steady stream of to-go orders, and a few people ahead of me waiting in line. The restaurant is very small - the inside section has only 4 tables, the front attached shed has about the same. The staff was very nice & bilingual. Enjoyed hearing the ladies communicate with each other in Cantonese, but switch back-and-forth to English with customers - without missing a beat! I got the 2 Topping Noodle Soup: egg (duck) vermicelli noodles, dumpling (shrimp, pork, woodear mushrooms, yellow chive - I hear that this better than the wonton), Stewed beef (literally melts in your mouth, with some offal cuts too), added on $1.50 Fish (dace) meatball. A tray of $8 fried fish salmon? skin (as per @jamesyworld post recommendation - dip it in the broth for some textural contrast!, & took the rest home. Just a side portion could have been enough actually) & an Iced Hong Kong Milk Tea : Total $30. Everything was high quality & generously portioned (took half of it home). I been seeing Maxis all over IG and bookmarked it on my list of places to try. It's your typical Flushing dine in spot. Seats are not very comfy. Almost fell backwards off of the seat as they don't have backs and I was too busy getting comfy and talkin haha. You get in grab a table, place ur order, eat ur food and GTFO as it does get super busy and crowded. Service moved pretty fast. I didn't really taste the curry with the fishballs. It was alright nonetheless. My favorite dish was the egg noodles w shrimp wonton. The shrimp wonton were massive, filled w generous amount of shrimp. Yummy. Beef stew was also good but def came w alot of tendons. Oh, their chili oil w garlic was the bomb. Be careful as it is spicy! Maxi noodles is popular on Instagram. Got the soup egg noodles with beef wonton and veggie in it. The broth is good and the wontons are pretty big. I wish I took a picture but I felt rushed to hurry up and eat since people are waiting for a table. I did not like the workers, they are rude as shit, and needs to work on their attitude. I thought I had to order inside since no one came to me at the table. The lady kept telling me wait outside, don't come inside, and sit down. There ain't a better noodle place than maxis in flushing and I have almost tried them all. Those duck noodles and that brisket is to die for. Look up maxi's story and how she started it's tremendous. You might even get lucky and see her there. Great spot for people watching and there is like 5 tables so you might have to share. I came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon with a group of 3 people. I'm glad I came to the Flushing location since the Manhattan Chinatown location is always super crowded. Both dumplings and wontons have great texture and flavor, but the dumplings are better imo with more going on and packed with a more mixture flavors. The portion might look small at first, but if you get 2 or 3 topping noodle soup, the toppings (huge portion size) will fill you up quick. They're generous with the dumplings, wontons, and fish paste sizes too! Save some money if you pay with cash. They do let you know on the menu what the difference is between cash and credit card payment for each dishes. They have a small indoor seating with about 4 tables and maybe 10 chairs total, plus a cover patio with another 3-4 table. The restaurant on 38th is a little small but the turnover is relatively fast. We went on a Wednesday at noon and we fortunately got a table right away. The wonton were pretty large. The dumplings were a different shape but large too! Most folks tend to get Noodles and a combination of toppings. I went for the toppings - dumplings and wontons only! I had 4 wontons and 3 dumplings. That filled me! The shrimps were pretty large so one is getting their Money's worth. If you wanted more topping or extra wontons or extra dumplings? Return or not return? Likely return next time in Flushing, but will order something else. Got my usual staple of the braised pork lo mein. Was ok, a little over sweetened, and does not rival Vancouver options which continues to win with this dish. That said, it was $12! Came here as a group of three at around 3pm on a Saturday. We were able to get a table in the outside patio area without any wait. We got the wonton noodle soup and the fried fish skin. I loved the wonton noodle soup! The wontons were huge and they were really delicious. The wonton filling was bouncy and well seasoned, and I liked that there were large pieces of shrimp inside instead of having everything just ground up and smooth. The wonton skin was thin, which I really liked, and the soup was very flavorful. The chili oil they had on the side was also really flavorful and delicious, so much so that I bought a jar of it separately to bring home with me. The fried fish skin was crunchy, but I think it was lacking some salt and was a little fishy. I know the proper way to enjoy is to dip it in the soup of the wonton noodle soup and enjoy it like that, but we were sharing the wonton noodle soup so there wasn't quite enough soup for me to properly enjoy the friend fish skin. I'll have to come back again and order a bowl of noodles to myself and give the fish skin another try! Anyway, our last time here was during pandemic time - I remember only outdoor seating or take out orders. This time, saw that they had enclosed outdoor seating but was warm there, so we chose indoors with a few tables. There was even a sign which said be ready to share tables with other customers. Before our order was taken, we were asked about food allergies. We wanted the dumplings again, which we loved then, so we got them in a soup and on lomein. They're goood; elongated pieces, with shrimp, pork, mushrooms. The wontons are shrimp-filled. Had to edit: learned from the owner that dumplings and wontons can be ordered a la carte. Great! There are other toppings like dace fish ball, ja jiang (which I wasn't into) etc. The soup broth was tasty. The beef stew ($2 more) added richness; the beef pieces were very tender and flavorful. I finally got the chance to try out Maxi's after having this place saved for over a year and I'm sad I haven't tried it sooner! I came on a weekend shortly after 1 PM and there were 4 people in front of us in line. This location is very small, there's like 4 small tables inside and 4 small tables outside, so I wouldn't come with a huge group. However, the tables turnover pretty fast - we only had to wait around 20 minutes after ordering at the front. After you are seated, you can either get water or some hot tea. The food came out pretty fast after we were seated. I ordered the wonton with egg noodle soup - you can add additional toppings if you like, but I thought it was perfect as is. 4 HUGE wontons came with my order - they were all generously filled and you could really taste the shrimp in all the wontons. The wontons were all wrapped neatly as well, so even though they were huge, the filling didn't fall out. Ate here for lunch with friends and it was such a treat! My partner and I just took a trip to Hong Kong too, and the wonton soup really is spot on from what one can find there. They have the best shrimp wontons I've had! The shop is small and simple but the food is so tasty. We also tried the shark fin soup and it was delicious. Just know the texture is more slimy so if you're not used to that texture you might be thrown off at first. While it's called shark fin I believe they use some other substitutes now instead of actual shark parts! We also wanted to try the curry ball but they were sold out when we went in the afternoon. When my parents came to visit, I took them to Maxi's and my mom kept saying it was even better than what she had in Hong Kong growing up. And, after visiting Hong Kong recently, I have to agree. When I'm in flushing I always make sure I have cash on me for this reason. I decided to go with the lo mein duck noodles. It was a super hot day and I didn't want to get a noodle soup. The duck noodles came with a side of broth anyway and I chose two proteins (dumplings and wontons). My food came out fairly quick! It comes with a side of veggies and oyster sauce.
