1st time trying Maxi's Noodle 2! I can't believe I waited this long! I ordered fried wontons (6 per order), beef stew, beef stew (tendons only), 3 toppings lo mein, curry fish balls, 3 toppings in soup & shark fin soup with dace (chunks of fish). Everything was absolutely amazingly fresh and Yummylicious! The wontons are so huge, I have eat it in 2 bites. The best part is there's a jumbo shrimp in each wonton. The dumplings are so addicting too. Especially since I don't like the hard skin but they use a thin wrapping for their dumplings (like their wontons) which I love. For the lo mein, I loved the option to add beef stew sauce to the noodle. The extra charge is so worth it! Maxi's Noodle 2 definitely deserves my Yummylicious Stamp of Approval! Two thumbs up! Following on the success of her restaurant in downtown Flushing, Maxi opened a second location on Main St. This location is more conveniently located if you are driving, being just a block north of the LIE. There is parking to be found in the surrounding residential neighborhood or the meters along Main St, but you might have to compete for spaces with patrons of other restaurants on this strip. As you enter, the big neon sign on the back wall names Maxi as 雲吞妹, Wonton Sister. I wish she were my sister making those delicious wontons! The golf-ball sized wontons are the star of the show! They are stuffed with shrimp in a delicate noodle wrapper floating in a tasty broth. The Chinese beef stew makes a great compliment to a bowl of steamy noodles with tender slices of beef flank and beef tendons (my favorite part). Noodle dishes can also be ordered Hong Kong style on a plate with broth on the side. We also get a dish of boiled vegetables with oyster sauce to round out our meal (usually baby Chinese Broccoli or choy sum). The menu has expanded since the last time we were here with new side dishes like curry fish balls and braised shiitake mushrooms that you can get over noodles or a la carte. Craving some Cantonese style noodle soup, I heard about Maxi's thru Yelp and dropped by for a casual lunch on a weekend afternoon. I'll surely return for their wontons and dumplings! Food-wise 4.5 stars for terrific ingredients, taste and technique. No frills service and a bit crowded seating reverted my rating back to 4 stars. This small shop is located in downtown Flushing, a couple blocks from the 7 train, an old school joint serving a mainstay of wontons and dumplings. Seating is at one of a dozen tables for two, pretty tight quarters. They also sit parties together without asking for your preference, as I found out when they motioned for another single diner to sit directly across the table from me. The menu is straightforward with options for types of noodles, types of proteins (aside from aforementioned options include fish balls, beef stew and tendon, jiajiang minced pork), and a handful of apps/sides - vegetables, curry fish balls, fried fish skin, a few soups. For drinks they have several fruit and milk teas, in addition to soda and water. I got their duck egg noodle in broth with two toppings (proteins), both the wontons and dumplings. $11.75 before tax which ended up being $12.79 + tip. Both were wrapped in very thin dumpling/wonton skins, with a very generous amount of savory filling, a mix of shrimp, pork and shiitake mushroom. They might have lightly marinated the shrimp prior because they were plump and juicy, cooked the right amount. The noodles came served in a disposable paper bowl with 3 wontons and 2 dumplings, which doesn't sound like a lot but each were easily twice the size I expected, so I was really full at the end of my meal! Frozen dumplings and wontons are available to go by the bag and had I not had somewhere to be after lunch, I seriously considered grabbing a bag to go! We got the Beef wonton noodle soup ( way too fatty ) and an order of the Ja Jiang This is like pork strips in a sweet sauce with veggies on thin noodles with shrimp wontons. Seriously, what's not to love about this place?! Consistently on point, and friendly staff! It's great if you speak Cantonese or maybe even mandarin, but most of the staff speak English. Just come with an empty belly! My kids love the curry fishballs. They always ask to get their own and aren't too privy in sharing. My favorite has got to be the duo wonton/dumpling with egg noodle soup. Their egg noodle has such a great, bouncy texture, and both wonton and dumplings are packed with huge bites of shrimp and flavor! That said, their flat rice noodle isn't bad either. It's got a great bite to it, despite having to sit in hot soup. IYKYK. It's best if you bring cash bc they charge extra for credit card usage. But that seems to be the norm these days. Nothing beats Maxi's when it comes to authentic Cantonese noodle. So many different toppings and you can choose the number of toppings on a wide variety of noodles they offer. Counter service and find your own seat and clean up. All the noodles and dumpling size is humongous so you definitely get bang for your buck. Overall, the restaurant is very clean and the staff is very pleasant. The only downside is the area could be difficult finding street parking but otherwise this is a must when it comes to Cantonese soup noodle. read more

Happy to see Maxi's Noodle has expanded to multiple locations. The quality is consistent with their original Flushing location. This location is a counter style location. Make your order and take a seat at any available space. When your order is ready, make sure to bring your receipt with you! It does not take long for the order to be ready, even when it's packed! I usually opt for a Wonton Noodle Soup. The wonton are huge with a thin, but held together wrapper and lots of protein. The eggs noodles are the perfect texture for this soup. I like that they have a liquids and regular trash, as I don't always drink all the soup. There's also someone wiping down the tables and maintaining the cleanliness of the restaurant. Seems like this location has better seating and parking than the other Flushing location so came on a recent weekend to check it out. The place is small but has a bunch of tables set up, and there's also a self service station for water and tea, which I thought was great. You order at the front and pick up your food, cafeteria style. The food came out very quickly; I barely had sat down when my buzzer rang. I ordered the two topping noodle soup (wontons and dumplings) with egg noodles. Price was $11.75 and came out to $12.79 with tax included for cash payment. Paying with cash would be advisable as I believe it's extra if you use credit card. Upon first glance, the bowl of noodles looked very good. It came out nice and hot, with broth looking tasty and both dumplings and wontons looking very appetizing. The wontons and dumplings seemed pretty similar, except that the wontons were circular in shape while the dumplings were tubular. However, I didn't see much noodles in the bowl and I figured they were buried at the bottom. The wontons and dumplings were both amazing. They were nice and large with super thin skin on both and really juicy and flavorful shrimp filling that explodes when you bite into them. Could easily destroy trays at a time of the wontons / dumplings; think they're some of the best I've had. The egg noodles were indeed buried at the bottom, and they were very satisfying too. Except... there weren't much noodles in the bowl at all. Felt like the noodles were gone after 2-3 bites. The chili oil they had there was really good as well and added a lot of flavor. I can see why this place is hyped. Overall, I enjoyed my meal, but I was disappointed in how little noodles there were in the noodle soup and I almost felt hungrier leaving this establishment than when I came in. $12.79 doesn't seem like a lot but I think my meal was still overpriced for what I got. Check out the menu before you go, it's not huge but it's a diy style so takes a minute to think it thru. We both ordered 3 topping soup and loved the flavors. The meat was like butter, so soft. Maxi's Noodles 2 is the second location (I'm guessing you could assume that by the 2) in Flushing, the other location is also in Flushing. Flushing has a wealth of good food options so it must be competitive. My wife and I are town for a visit and Maxi's 2 is fairly new, about a year old, and I tried it because the original had good reviews and there were people inside. The place looked clean with a lot of seating. I ordered a wonton noodle soup for my wife and a wonton beef stew noodle soup as take-out. The price is based on number of toppings, including the noodles. You go inside and order and pay at a counter. They seemed to have a responsive kitchen staff, they made the others right away and my take-out order came out relatively quick, they probably have the wontons and beef stew prepped and ready to go. The beef stew was very tender and the wontons were all shrimp, I like my wontons with pork too, but didn't mind because the wontons seemed like the biggest ones I've ever had and the wonton mixture was pretty tasty. I tried the beef stew and beef tendon over egg noodles lo mein-style. While the beef stew and tendon was soft and tender, I thought the noodles and sauce was just alright. The soup that came with the noodles was also so-so. I also tried the three toppings over egg noodle soup. I came back to introduce a friend to the wontons. When she asked me the difference between the dumplings and wontons, I wasn't sure so I ordered some this time. Turns out the dumplings have the same thin skin and shrimp filling as the wontons except there are mushrooms in the dumplings and they're bigger. She tried the beef stew as well and enjoyed the ginger flavor. We both had the honey lemon tea iced which was refreshing. If you don't know, google the touching story of Maxi and her father fulfilling her mom's dream. Nowadays, whenever I'm in downtown Flushing, Maxi's Noodle is one of my top choice for a quick lunch. I also buy frozen wontons and dumplings from them regularly to stockpile my freezer. Having this new location by the LIE just makes my life much easier. I was here on grand opening day, and numerous times since then with my family and friends. Quality is always top notch. Service is relatively quick. Most importantly, it never disappoints because the food is fantastic. My usual order is the mix of wontons and dumplings, though I slightly prefer the latter. Both are wonderful with a ton of filling. The difference is that the wonton has about 90% shrimp with 10% pork. The dumpling definitely has more pork with a bit of black fungus, but still heavily shrimp based. You really can't go wrong with either tbh. Eat it with red vinegar and chili oil for an elevated flavor. Btw, if I'm hungry, I would add some noodles to the dish. However, the soup is MSG heavy and could be better. If I have someone to share a meal with, then I would add a beef stew noodle soup. The meat is super tender and well marinated, while the broth has hints of five spice. I may also add an order of fried fish skin and Chinese broccoli to round out the meal. Other popular items include their dace fish paste that lacks any flavor to me. Their fake shark fin soup is decent though. The only thing I don't like would be the ja jiang dry noodles, which is too sweet. Honestly, the prices have become higher than when I first discovered Maxi's Noodle, but that's expected with the rising rents. I was working in Queens the other day and one of my colleagues recommended that some of us go here for lunch. She had heard good things about Maxi's Noodle, and since I'm a fan of noodles and trying new places, I got excited to check them out, so off we went. I did a little research and learned that Maxi's Noodle has had somewhat of a meteoric rise over the last couple of years. This is partly due to the oversized wontons they serve and a writeup of the restaurant in the NY Times. The original Maxi's is located in Downtown Flushing, but they have recently opened this second location on Main Street where we went. The dining room isn't too large, though there's enough room for 10 to 12 tables and large windows around the perimeter which makes the entire space bright. The aesthetics are mostly grey with touches of red accents throughout which creates pops of color. The star of the menu is noodles, so I decided to focus my attention on that. You can kind of build your own bowl where you can choose your noodle type, and then add one, two, or three toppings (or, just have noodles in broth). There are several toppings to choose from - mostly proteins, including their signature wontons. I decided to go for udon noodles and the three topping option; I chose wontons, dumplings, and ja jiang (pork and mushrooms). You may be asking yourself what the main difference was between the wontons and the dumplings (I did) - the wontons are larger and mostly contain shrimp, while the dumplings are smaller and contain mushroom and pork. The bowl was really tasty - the noodles were cooked well, and the toppings were great. I can see why people flock here - the wontons were substantial and had great flavor. There's no table service - you order at the counter towards the rear of the restaurant and are given a buzzer which dings once your order is ready; they were super quick, I waited 5 minutes at the most. Note this place is cash only, so bring the green. Overall, I was really impressed with Maxi's - they serve tasty, high quality goods in a comfortable atmosphere.
