Love this place based on its setup. After the Met game I walked over to Flushing and stopped by about a hr before closing. A handful of people. The original beef noodles is $11. I got that and the cucumber salad for $4 (which was small and boring, pass on this). Paid in cash. No tax. Long restaurant. Self serve. No tipping. No wait staff but there is a person in the front. You get your food on the counter in the back of the restaurant. There is a fixin bar with scallion, cilantro and sauces. The broth was plain and beef was nothing special. But after attacking the fixin bar the broth becomes what you want either sweet or spicy. Indeed you can refill your rice noodles, bring your bowl back and the lady will refill along with broth. I did this 1x but will do more next time. Bathroom is available Will come back. Maybe not the best quality but functionality and pricing is a nice setup. read more

Chief Beef Noodles was a wonderful experience in Flushing! I found the environment within to be very warm, cozy, and welcoming. The people at the entrance who take your order from the counter were extremely friendly, and in no time at all..we had our beef noodle soup order put in. You pick it up from a counter towards the back of the dining space, and then they have ample toppings available for you to pick and choose from to your desire. Despite the narrow dining space, it was still easy to find seating, as there's both bar/counter seating along the wall, and various tables. As for the beef noodle soup itself, I found it to be perfectly prepared and loved the quality and heat of the broth it was in. I honestly have no complaints at all about Chief Beef Noodles..it provides the product it advertises absolutely JUST right and perfectly prepared. I love it - and I highly recommend! read more

If you're a fan of Chinese beef noodle soup, Chief Beef is absolutely worth a visit. This is a quick, no-frills spot serving affordable, comforting bowls that are perfect on a cold day. For about $12 you get a generously sized portion that's filling and satisfying. You order at the front counter with the cashier, and once your number is called, you pick up your bowl at the back counter. There's a self-serve condiment station with cilantro, garlic, chili, salt, MSG, etc. where you can season your soup exactly to your taste. If you plan on getting a side, I highly recommend bundling it with your soup to save a couple bucks. The biggest downside during my visit was some confusion at the register, as the cashier spoke very limited English. I didn't realize the bundle option existed until after ordering, which was a bit frustrating. Seating is limited in this small space and is first come, first served, so it's best for solo diners or groups of no more than 4. I passed this place as I was walking from my parking garage to the subway. The sign on the front said "hungry panda.". The pictures of the food looked very good I decided to stop by for dinner on the way back to my car. I come in, the place is, small, but it's bright and clean. They have a kiosk that you order from. You order on the kiosk, pay, you pick up your drink at the front counter, and then you go back and the kitchen in the back, lets you know when your food is ready. I do not know if you also have the option to order at the front counter. I had the blanched beef with rice noodles in soup. The broth by itself was just a little bit bland but a trip to their condiments bar, plus a little bit of soy sauce and vinegar, fixed that right up. The broth was delicious! The noodles were the perfect texture. And while the beef was a little bit, chewy, it was still very good. I left the restaurant stuffed. Food and soda, the price was very reasonable. The best thing is the DIY sauce/condiments bar! Especially the sour beans yummm I love that with the noodles. I didn't get to try the soup version, but the dry noodle version is ok, albeit on the plain side if you don't get to add all the additional toppings. Noodles are very bouncy and it's a huge portion, but the beef wasn't that tender and involved too much chewing. My favorite was probably the cucumbers hah. Plenty of seating inside. You order at the front or with the machine, you find your own seat and clean up after yourself. read more

Cuisine: 6 Service: 6 Decor: 7 Value: 7 Overall: 6 This new restaurant opened last week in the former space of Nai Brother on Roosevelt Avenue. They specialize in beef rice noodle from Guizhou, China. The space is long and narrow, with a small counter upfront for ordering, seats in the middle, and an open kitchen in the back. You place your order and pick up your own food. Next to the back window is a DIY area that had all the condiments, seasoning, and utensils. Condiments included cilantro, scallions, chili oil, dry chili flakes, preserved mustard stems, some type of dry herb, finely diced garlic and fried garlic. Seasoning includes soy, black vinegar, salt, msg, and chicken powder. Currently, part of their menu is still not available yet, so we tried almost everything they had. Below are my thoughts on each item. Original Broth Beef Shank Noodle (5/10) - Not sure why, but I couldn't taste any of the beefy flavor in the broth. That is surprising because they have a sign by the back window that said (in Chinese), "Hundreds of kilograms of big beef bones, slow simmered for four hours." To enhance the soup, I added lots of seasoning and condiments. This bowl came with Guizhou's famous rice noodles, which were smooth and silky, so no complaints there. The beef shank was tender, but too thinly sliced and falling apart. I also prefer if they had marinated the beef shank. We also added extra freshly blanched beef, which lacked any real flavor and I would skip next time. Braised Beef Brisket Noodle (7/10) - For some reason, this soy and slightly spicy based broth was just beefier, even though they use the same beef broth from the huge vat of soup in the kitchen. Instead of rice noodle, we got flour based noodle for this dish, and they had a nice texture with a decent chew. We also enjoyed the beef brisket more than the other two cuts of beef. However, I do wish there were more beef to noodle ratio. Lastly, there was a soft boiled egg in both noodle soups, which was cooked well, but would have been nice if it was somewhat marinated. Cucumber Salad (8/10) - Really garlicky and crunchy. Refreshing and good. Wood Ear Salad (8/10) - Great vinegary taste that blends well with the crunchy texture of the mushrooms. Delicious! Spicy Beef Tripe (5/10) - This needed to be slightly more tender, a bit tough to chew. Flavor was also somewhat bland and needs more of a kick. Ok. So the jury is still out. I am very confused how a store specializing in beef broth doesn't realize that their base broth might be underwhelming. Regardless, I plan to give them another try when the rest of the menu is ready. read more

Their signature Guizhou beef rice noodle dish is bland. No wonder this place is empty on a weekend at prime dinner time. We did takeout so there was no opportunity to use the condiment station in the back. And as takeout, they don't pack any for you. It does come in a very pretty (interior insulated!) plastic bag with handles. It wasn't packed that well because a bit of the soup and chilli oil, did leak inside of the bag. Beef pieces are sliced super thin. Also bland. Definitely needs some type of dipping sauce. Comes with a sprinkling of mint and scallions on top, which still didn't give it enough flavor. Soup. Very watery with no depth of flavor. They say it's been boiled for hours with tons of beef bones, but it doesn't taste like it. Comes with the signature Guizhou rice noodles. They are ok. Nothing special for me. An egg used to be part of the meal, but no more. You have to order it as an addition to the soup, for 2 dollars. And that's what we did. Egg is barely marinated. Yolk is a bit hard. I would not bother adding an egg to the meal. It's mediocre at best. read more

I was sad to find out our favorite BOGO boba spot had shut down. This spot opened up in its place. The place was popping during lunch time. They take no tips, and the noodles came out lightning fast. Everything was self serve, so grab your own utensils and add your own condiments. I got the Original Beef Shank Noodles ($10.99), and I had to take multiple trips to the sauce station to beef it up. I'm not sure if it was intended to be this way, but please go ham on the condiments, because this dish needs it. With all the extra sauces and garlic, the soup finally tasted decent. The noodles, though, were slippery, soft, and well cooked. If you want a noodle soup that already has good flavor, go with the Braised Beef Brisket Dry Noodle ($12.99). There's also clearly a disconnect between the kitchen and the front desk because I'm hearing customers telling the front desk when ordering no cilantro/onion etc....but the noodles the kitchen churns out as no garnishes at it at all it's DIY.
