I have tried xi'an famous foods at a few locations over the years and never thought it to be amazing. It's not terrible food, just very mediocre to me. The meat if dry and a bit chest, not really tender. The seating is generally plentiful compared to the food court upstairs so if you are hungry and dont want to wait for a seat to clear up at the food court, you might consider coming here. The restaurant is new and spacious. The saving dish that brings this up a star rating was the lamb dumplings, That was very juicy and tasty. If I were to come back here, it would only be for those spicy lamb dumplings. read more

My first time at this location, I've been to both locations on the UES so I wanted to come here since it's closer anyway. Empty when we went in, but customers came after us. We ordered our usual Spicy.. Tingly beef noodles with some tea. Noodles were good. Great texture. We got it reg spicy but I think it was spicier at the other location. It was still tasty... beef was tender. we always share one dish cuz we usually go to another restaurant after Xi'an so I never want to be too full. I've only had this dish and the cold noodles before ...which I do not care for. I always say that I'm gonna try something else but we just order the same dish...since we don't eat at Xi'an that much, it's still pretty yummy..but maybe next time I'll try the soup version. read more

Food: I ordered a spicy cumin lamb with hand pulled noodles with regular spice level and less oil (4/5). It had an amazing flavor--with the right amount of spice where you can taste the flavor but still have that numbing taste. I also LOVED the soft, fresh texture of the hand pulled noodles. I like how there's a bite to it because of the texture. I think the only thing i wish was different was more vegetables. If there were more cabbages it would balance out the heaviness of the spicy oil. Overall I recommend the spicy cumin lamb or the other dry noodles (if you don't like gamey meat, then get the beef!) The noodles cost about $16-17 so I feel like it's kind of pricey. Ambiance: The decor is simple. The place is relatively new so it feels clean. Ashamed to admit that as a life long New Yorker I've never had X'ian Famous Food... until today. Decided to try the location in Tangram Mall and was surprised to find lots of seating and a touch screen to order. Me and my sister both ordered the Spicy and Tingly Beef Muscle Hand Ripped Noodles, one with regular spice and the other less spicy. You could see the noodles being made fresh through the window that peers into the kitchen. We received our order in heaping plates which came out in around 10 minutes. The noodles were perfectly chewy and the beef was flavorful and tender. The sauce was spicy and numbing, a combo that's super addicting. I recommend the regular spice level if you can handle it because it definitely had more flavor which the addition of more chili oil. They did forget to put cabbage in one of the orders but I guess they were rushing to churn out dishes. I'm so glad I finally tried this NYC institution and I'll definitely be back. read more

At times it doesn't look like a lot but it's really a lot. I couldn't finish it. I ate most of it. If I didn't have a movie to catch afterwards, I would have taken the rest to go. The broth was so flavorful. . The pork was very tender and I thought it would have been dry, but it wasn't dry at all. It was soaked in the sauce it stewed in. . I do wish they had an extra veggie often. They have the option of you want to omit an item but no option to have more of an item. I would have loved some more cabbage and cilantro. . I like the space they have inside @tangramnyc - it's spacious, bright and clean. Can't say the same for their old location inside the Flushing Mall (RIP). Whenever I'm at Tangram, I wind up picking up my N9 noods. These are my favorite noodles on planet Earth, they have such good flavor, and the noodles are so perfectly bouncy and chewy. Their chili oil is so good as well, I always make sure to keep my fridge stocked with it. read more

This location is inside Tangram mall and it was spacious and clean. When I arrived it was pretty empty and ordered my lamb burger through the kiosk. The service was quick and friendly. I tried it as soon as I got the burger even though I wasn't too hungry and it was tasty. The lamb weren't too fatty and still moist. I haven't had Xi'an for a long time since they changed their buns, but I'm glad I gave them another shot. I got the Pork "Zha Jiang" Hand-Ripped Noodles (11.75) with the spice level at Regular. I am a sucker for fresh, hand-pulled noodles. In all honesty, the dish wasn't too spicy, but it was very oily. This type of Chinese food is known to be a bit on the oiler side, and I appreciated that my cashier politely asked me if I wanted it to be less oily. The noodle was very chewy and amazing, but I was not the biggest fan of their sauce and meats. I was pleasantly surprised because I was expecting it to be overly dry and under-seasoned. My friend also agreed with me that it was better than the last time she tried as well. Inside, you have condiments such as chili oil, salt, and black vinegar that you can use to adjust the taste to your liking. There are also napkins and utensils located at the tables. The tables also have small hooks conveniently located underneath so that you can place your bags to hang. They opened up a new shop in Flushing. It is located on the first floor of the Tangram shopping mall. It is a clean, modern location that provides the classic dishes that made Xian Famous Foods such a popular restaurant. Mostly self-service similar to the other locations. They have a self order and pay station that is pretty easy to use. It was convenient to order and pay. The prices have been going up from what I remember. They have a good amount of seats available. The food was delicious. We got the Pork Noodle dish, the Spicy Cumin Lamb Noodle and the Pork and Chive Dumplings. I don't like numbing spice so I mostly ate the pork and dumplings. The noodles are wide, thick, with a great chew; and are combined with a chili oil coating to make a deliciously addictive, satisfying experience. The lamb is chewy and dry, but flavorful because of the chili oil coating. We recommend the "Regular Spicy" version of this dish. There are less spicy and no spice versions available, but this dish depends heavily on chili oil for flavor. Conversely, we find it difficult to appreciate the Extra Spicy version of this dish, because the heat drowns out the other flavors. I first hand Xi'an Famous foods over a decade ago in the Manhattan location and fell in love with the taste of the "Chinese Hamburger" I later had the pleasure of eating the real thing in Xi'an, China. It tastes pretty close to the real thing ;) This location looks to be very new, and inside the Tangram Shopping center/Mall. Very easy self-service check out and there was plenty of seating on a Friday night around 6pm (we were the only ones in there at the time!) My husband and I shared half of each of the Stewed Pork, and also the Cumin Lamb. Overall, I find the stewed pork to be juicier - but I like the spices of the cumin lamb overall much better. If you've never had a Chinese "hamburger" before, I would recommend you try as is - with the spices as intended. If I had more room I would have tried some of their noodles as well, but we were on a self guided food tour and I had to save space! read more

Came here on a whim after not going to the other Main St, Flushing location for a while (it was disappointing after multiple tries), but I am SO happy I gave it another chance! :) I always get the Spicy Lamb Cumin Hand Ripped Noodles (either dry or in soup) because I personally think it's the best thing on the menu. The reason why I stopped going to the original location is because the noodle quality is inconsistent and sometimes would be too thick or the soup spice level would vary depending on the chef that day (even though I always get medium spicy). But this new place they opened up at Tangram Mall is AMAZING! Literally so good and spot on with the noodle thickness and spice level! The space inside is also clean and nice!
