This is the third business for Astoria-born owner Eddie, with Halal Butcher Shop & a Restaurant in the Egyptian & Morrocan section of Steinway Street. This business is a deli/to-go hot foods store with a mostly Moroccan-influenced grocery section (tea, soup mixes, honey, tinned fish, chocolates, harissa & other spreads, chips). The meat & sausages that they sell in the case look SO FRESH, a good sign for their sandwiches. There's a few tables to sit at outside. A great healthy option for the area, across the street from Flor de Azelea Cafe. The pricing is very reasonable too.
There's breakfast sandwiches, fresh pastries (almond croissant & strawberry jam & cheese pastry were lightly crispy & surprisingly good), drip coffee, made to order sandwiches, grilled items, little $5 tubs of orzo feta salad, tuna, pasta salad & more. There's daily specials, recent options were rotisserie chicken on rice for $10, chicken chilaquiles & tacos.
But the most popular item is the tuna sandwich! $7 Yes - TUNA. It's on a fresh small baguette, the tuna is a Moroccan brand but they also sell in the shop, mixed with olives, layered with red onion, tomato, lettuce, and green aïoli spread.
The Kofta Sandwich was also delicious $10. Kofta is a seasoned beef and lamb patty, it was grilled with tomato, lettuce and a white sauce. Vicky's kettle chips are also sold there.
The drinks case has moroccan apple and lemon soda, tonic water, and other options. The owner said that he's testing & tweaking his menu, may include soups in the future. Looking forward to getting more lunches from there, best of luck to them!
