I ordered Empanada Mama for a weekend lunch meal and it really exceeded my expectations. I got the two empanadas, rice and beans combo (chose the El Jefe and Shredded Chicken Corn). Both empanadas were hot and delicious. The El Jefe was my favorite, the meat was so tender and flavorful. The chicken was a little bit dry but taste was still great! I also got a Pollo Guisado as well. The stew was a bit too salty for me but otherwise the flavor was great and paired so well with the yellow rice. All in all, will definitely be ordering from Empanada Mama again in the future for a fast and tasty lunch option. read more

Empanada Mama were doing there thing this summer at the JPMorgan's Headquarters cafeteria right here in NYC. That made the ambiance great right here at the office Totally enjoyed two vegetable crispy empanadas with a side of rice and beans and some fresh crispy fried plantain chips. Very much enjoyed the vegetable empanadas as they were stuffed with such delicious vegetables that were well flavored and immediately hit the spot and was so filling. I enjoyed the container of rice and black beans that was super delicious. Yummy! And I had the fried plantain chips as a snack in the afternoon as I finished my work day. Would definitely loved to visit one of their location in NYC and enjoyed their chicken empanadas while experts dinning experience there. Overall the staff were amazing and super knowledgeable about Empanada Mama. read more

Wow, 10/10/10. I can't believe I've been sleeping on this place. I always thought there was no way to get good Colombian food in midtown! They catered my firm event. I got the pork empanada and the beef empanada, rice and beans, salad and tried the green and red salsa picante. Traditional Colombian flavors absolutely pop out in the rice and beans and in the salsa picantes. Very fresh and the empanadas are about twice the size of a normal empanada. read more

Service is friendly, and you can hang out while you wait. The store itself is small, but enough room to dine in if you choose. The empanadas were super oily this time around and wasn't too enjoyable because of all the oil. read more

Got myself 2 empanadas - I have to say I like the corn one better. Next time I might try the baked ones. The wheat ones were a bit greasy for my taste. But man, were they both tasty and super filling. Next time I might just get one, and then complement it with a salad or soup. The place was really conveniently located clean and had just enough seating to not get it too crowded. I was able to sit right there and have my meal. The service is great too. They're really lovely people behind the counter and the food came out promptly. I think it's gonna be my new go to when I maybe want to substitute a quick pizza for an empanada. I paid less than $10 for both empanadas and I can tell you it was a pretty filling meal. read more

A friend told me I had to try the empanadas from this place while in New York. We were passing by and I saw it and tried it. We ordered at the kiosk. We ordered the El Torre and the El Jefe. Both were really really good. We ate them so quickly I forgot to get pictures. Nice customer service at pickup. We will definitely eat here again when I am back in New York. read more

We usually go to the Hell's Kitchen location just because there's more room to sit. However we were in the Times Square area and wanted a quick bite before going to a show and this location was perfect! Super friendly and accomodating service. And as always the star of the show-the empanadas- were delicious! Huge and packed with flavorful ingredients. read more

I went here during the day which wasn't crowded, but I can totally imagine this place being crowded during the nights. It would definitely make a great late night meal. You just order through the kiosk in the front. There is barely any seating inside. This place is more grab and go. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken & Jerk & Cheese empanadas which were both tasty and savory. I preferred the jerk & cheese over the buffalo chicken because it was more moist and cheesy. I enjoyed the green sauce a lot with the empanadas. The postobon manzana soda went well with the empanadas and was refreshing. read more

One word. BOMB . Was visiting and lil bro had these waiting my arrival after a long flight and workday. First time trying this place and it was amazing. I had two of the seafood stuffed empanadas (real shrimp, imitation crab, in a light cream sauce) and they were hot, lightly fried, not too heavy but the perfect snack with the salsas to accompany. I liked mixing the red salsa and the green initially but the red is a bit more classic and on the vinegar side. Green much milder. Looking forward to trying other options from the menu during my next trip or so. read more

The food is great. The strong smell of pot at night when you're trying to pick up your late dinner order is not. Nor are the shadier types who seem to gather here when you're picking up food. No real seating since this is literally grab and go. Good luck on getting your order in a timely fashion too though once you do, it IS really good. The one on 14th Street that's more of a grab and go is much better along with pretty much any of the sit down locations. However, the food quality is great and the price isn't completely obscene like it is at many Manhattan restaurants and eateries. read more

I just happened upon the street festival in Hells Kitchen today. Had been eyeing this place and they happened to have a booth at this Festival. I'd heard really great things about Empanada Mama and it did not disappoint! I had the following flavors: -Cheese -Cheeseburger -Ground Beef All of them were great in their own way. My favorite may have been Cheeseburger since it was so different and really did taste like a cheeseburger: perfectly seasoned meat with gooey cheese. The empanadas are ordered from machine kiosks and you are given your completed order after everything is freshly cooked, so it's nice that you always receive fresh empanadas and not food that has been sitting out. The plantains were also very good. There isn't really seating in the space (there is some counter seating along the window)...this is really meant for takeaway. Definitely check out this spot if you're in the area! read more

I was looking for a quick snack after going to the Macy's Day Parade. The place is small and clean. It was not crowded either so I went to the kiosk and placed my order for two wheat empanadas (Brasil and Cheeseburger) with a watermelon lemonade. The order didnt take long to prepare and I was on my way back to the hotel. The empanadas were flavorful and moist. They were nice size and you only need 1 or 2 to fill you up. I will highly recommend this place and I will definitely go again! read more

We're very loyal customers to empanada mamas and have frequent most of their locations. There's no comparison to other places. Empanada mama has over forty flavors of Empanadas and it was so hard choosing one they all sounded so good. I ended up ordering the oxtail one. I ordered from the kiosk and waited in the small shop. They have a few stools around the perimeter but they were taken. This location in times square is open late so if you're looking for a late night snack definitely the place. The oxtail was cooked to perfection with all the right flavors shining through. The crust of the Empanadas were savory and flaky. read more

This is a small, carry out only shop. There's a few bar stools but no tables. Many many filling options for the empanadas as well as sides. I tried the Bombay and it was so delicious. This is a grab & go place. Unless you're fortunate to get a seat out of 4 seats inside the place. They do have a lot of options from meat/ veggies/ fried and baked empanadas. I decided to try the Bourbon Chicken and it was filled from the first and last bite. For a cup of coffee ( cafe con leche) and a empanada you can't go wrong. Fresh made !! They will make it right on the spot. It's fresh and really hot! This one is located next to the Times Square Subway station. I added a picture for reference. If you ask the employees they will walk you through the options and help make a decision. read more

First the interior pictures are not if this location! This is the to go location and has 6 seats at a bar table. Otherwise the only other things are the ordering tablets and the kitchen. The kitchen staff were friendly. Our large order was completed quickly. The presentation left something to be desired as well as the provided utensils were not up to the task of the steak. We ordered Entrana ala plancha with black beans and yellow rice. It came with a green salad. Everything had a great taste though the steak was too tough for the plastic fork and knife. Tostones huge portion and well cooked Picada great value BUT the way it was packaged made it hard to tell what was what. And the steak became overcooked. However the chicken was moist and the portion was generous. Pineapple juice fresh squeezed and worth a trip on its own! A ton of empanadas, I think we ordered everyone that wasn't spicy. Good ratio of dough to filling. Well cooked. The Stanford were the Romeo and Juliet (in a bad way) and the Bombay, Cuban, and desayuno in a good way. I'd come back but probably to one of the sit down locations instead. read more

This place was on the corner from where we were staying and let's face it, I was tired of NY pizza. The inside is small, with seating for maybe 10 people. You order via touch screen but there's a full physical menu on the wall if you prefer that. I went with the birria empanada and the spinach and cheese. The food was reasonably priced and was served to me hot and fresh. By looking at it I knew it was the real deal Holyfield. The meat was well seasoned and not over salted like other places. The portion size was very good too. The star of the meal was the green sauce. It gave the empanadas a nice little kick plus it had a little tang to it. My only criticism is that they serve the sauce in those small and narrow cups which restricts you from dunking your empanada in it. Instead you have to carefully pour the sauce into it. This has all the makings of a mom and pop shop and should be cherished as one. If you're staying new Times Square and want some delicious bites you gotta try this place. read more

I'm not even going to lie but after a night of drinking, I don't know how I even got here. I was with my coworkers after a big party, and we were looking for something to grub on. Someone recommended this place, and I am so glad she did. Couldn't tell you how the service was and what the actual atmosphere was like cause I was too gone to remember lol but I do remember that the empanada I had was DANK. I ordered the Mac n cheese one, and it came out piping hot and stuffed. With each bite, I doused it in the red hot sauce which revived my soul. Honestly still thinking about it as I write this review, that's how good it was. Didn't try any of the other flavors but do not skip out on the Mac n cheese one. There's some ham in it as well. I should probably come try this when I'm sober lol, but it really hit the spot after a night out. Open pretty late too so that's also a win! read more

Overall: cooked well, crispy exterior with a juicy interior. El Toro: 8/10 2 friends said it was great but I felt that it could've had a little more salt/flavor, besides that wasn't bad Brazil: 9/10 (Recommend) Flavor bomb. Meat inside was just cooked well. Ground beef didn't feel disconnected and the flavors inside were just phenomenal. Viagra: 7/10 Felt like this could've been better. You can tell there's Shrimp and crab inside when you look at it, but it just felt like it was under seasoned compared to the other two. read more

Long overdue review! I bought a large order of these for delivery and when they arrived they were still hot! Super easy to order directly on the Yelp app. Each was package nicey and those that were different flavors were clearly labeled which was appreciated because we had a couple in the group with dietary restrictions. The empanadas are pretty large in size with two filling me up pretty quickly. I appreciate the unique combinations and names. I liked the Viagra and El Toro flavors best. A Late night must!! We stayed right across from Empanada Mama & I'd do it again. This location is a to-go one so at night you order & pick up from a window. This one is also not a 24/7 location, but still closes fairly late. They have such a large selection of flavors to choose from. Their empanadas are so crispy when you bite into it & bursts w/ flavor. I'm typically not a seafood girl but have heard a lot about their Viagra (crab & shrimp) & knew I had to get it. I was not disappointed! Paired with their green salsa omg you won't regret it. The Mac N Cheese I'd probably pass on next time to try something else. These are made to order so it took like 5-10 minutes. Cant wait to go back to NY to get this! read more
