If there is a food court / food hall to be found in Flushing, it's likely going to include the Lanzhou (蘭州拉面) somewhere in the mix. Located in the back row of New York Food Court, it's an easy to miss stall that is not in plain view upon entrance. Most folks are charmed by the initial bank of stalls, which doesn't exactly make a prime spot. This Lanzhou is far from perfect, but it's an old reliable and one of the few bizes with a constant presence regardless of the never-ending changes in food court lineups. The highlight for me, is always the noodles themselves. They're usually partially imperfect, which is common for handpulled noodles, and usually al dente enough to where they have a good bite. The he fen (wide noodle) variation is usually a little more doughy but is a good sub for anyone not wanting the usual lo mein style. The knife cut noodles (刀削面) are fun to watch, but is not as exciting to eat. Most of my experiences are tougher noodle for me. The soups, especially the beef noodle broth, are flavorful for the most part despite being a tad too dark most of the time. I think the underrated part of Lanzhou's arsenal is their variety of dry noodle choices. Their zha jiang mian is a delightful bolognese of ground meat gravy that is as hearty as it is pretty. Their standard stir fried noodles are also quite good and recommended for folks who don't enjoy the soupy experience so much. Mixed beef (tendon) or lamb are my usual choices, the latter as cumin lamb is the winner. Like most Chinese food trends, they've also incorporated western Chinese cuisine into the mix, particularly kebabs and rou jia mos, which they've playfully dubbed as "Chinese hamburgers." It's not top tier by any stretch, but an option for those who want to partake. The service is going to be lackluster and typically rushed. It's cash only and most noodles now are nearing the $10 mark after being nearly half the price pre-pandemic. Speaking Mandarin is always going to be a plus, but I recommend some pointing / photo showing for efficiency's sake.

New York Food Court's Lanzhou Hand Pulled Noodles' tasty, cumin-spiced $7 Lamb "Burger" on its stiff, dense English muffin like bun

En route to a Mets game grabbing assorted eats-to-go in downtown Flushing. Entered the spacious New York Food Court and spotted Lanzhou Hand Pulled Noodles. Recalled that Lanzhou cuisine was similar to Xi'an and have been a fan of Xi'an Famous Foods since they opened years ago in Manhattan. With noodles potentially a difficult item to eat in the Citi Field stands, decided to order a $7 Lamb "Burger," also recalling Xi'an's tasty cumin seasoned ones. Similarly spiced and pieces of meat vs. a formed burger, Lanzhou's was absolutely flavorful, but the stiff bun, which reminded me of an extremely dense, untoasted English muffin, fought the meat. (See pic.) That being said, would definitely come back to try next time Lanzhou's hand pulled noodles.

I went inside the New World Mall at Flushing to see what food they have at the food court. I came across this place called "Lanzhou Handmade Noodle" who make flavorful noodles and flavorful broth infused with herbs and spices. The noodles come in various thicknesses, affecting texture and slurping enjoyment. You can also watch skillful chef preparing the dough and hand pull the noodles. This adds more excitement to the dining experience by watching them while eating. I ordered the roast duck & ribs. It's so good! This place accepts CASH only. Definitely come check it out.

SO GOOD AND SO CHEAP!! I got their #4 noodle (beef flank noodle soup) with an egg and it came out to $10.50. It came with a wonderful broth, really yummy noodles, and a decent amount of meat and bok choy. The egg was definitely worth it ($1 extra) as it was super flavorful. The lady running the cash register was a bit impatient/no frills, but I think that was to be expected. It's located in the food court of the New World Mall, which was pleasantly clean and spacious.

Life is Short, F....it up! Family, Friends, Flavor If you're ever in Flushing, go to the new world mall, go downstairs and you will find this place. Although it is a food court, it's a food court of all different types of Asian cuisine. They were pulling the noodles right in front of you and cooking each bowl With fresh noodles. I got the lamb hand pulled noodles for the soup. You know you're getting something special when you first put into the needle and you feel that texture and the chewing us with the other does able to absorb the flavor of the soup with every bite.

They have delicious soup broth and Chinese burgers stuffed with meat. The beef soups are amazing. The lamb soup is good too. Sometimes the broth might be a little salty.

Great noodles! Only $8.50, so cheap but you get so many noodles!! The tea egg was FANTASTIC. Also came out within 2-3 min, it was so fast. The meal was solid, not amazing, but still pretty good

Food is bad and staff are rude! The lady yelled at me for asking for extra bowls for sharing. The other staff just stood there and watched as she yelled. She ended up asking for money but I feel like it's probably not protocol and she'll just pocket it. Also, If you need to charge money for extra bowls, you can say so without yelling. If you see her there, please stay away and avoid the abuse. The beef noodle soups are just noodles with barely any beef. Only tiny bits of unrecognizable brown stuff. Not like the previous customer photos at all. Maybe management changed. Definitely not worth the money, especially with the abuse.

A cockroach in the beef noodle soup

I ordered beef noodle soup, and I got it delivered through UberEats. The broth was somewhat tasty and lukewarm, nothing spectacular. AND AS I WAS EATING, I FOUND A COCKROACH IN THE SOUP. A COCKROACH FLOATING IN THE BROTH. I lost my appetite and called to request for a refund. The woman on the phone says she can't speak English or Cantonese and hung up. This is disgusting.

I know you are supposed to come here for noodle soup but husband ordered the beef stir fry noodles and it was actually very good. Chewy noodles, tender beef, and a good ratio of noodles, meat and vegetables.

This is Hong Kong style done right, and in Flushing you're getting the real thing at prices that genuinely rival what you'd pay in China. We lucked into a nice day and grabbed a seat outside. Service was fast and furious, which is exactly what you should expect and honestly want from a spot like this. You're not here for a leisurely dining experience, you're here to eat something delicious and get on with your day. My one gripe, and it applies to the whole surrounding area and not just Maxi's: there are basically no bathrooms to be found. Plan accordingly before you commit to a big bowl of soup. Cheap, tasty, authentic. Everything a Flushing noodle spot should be.

We walked into a casual space that fit the style of food, with the main focus being on freshly made noodles, flavorful broths, and hearty dishes. The dining room had a practical, no-fuss energy with a steady flow of customers coming in for a warm bowl, and the open kitchen gave us a view of the noodle pulling process that added a layer of engagement to the meal. The Lanzhou beef noodle soup is the main highlight and the dish that defines the restaurant. We ordered a bowl and found the broth with a rich, savory flavor and a good balance of spices, while the hand-pulled noodles had a satisfying texture that made each bite enjoyable. The thin slices of beef added another layer to the dish, and the chili oil gave the soup extra depth without overpowering the original flavors of the broth. Beyond the noodles, the lamb skewers were another standout item, the meat tender and well seasoned with a smoky grilled flavor that paired nicely with the noodle dishes. The menu also included other options like braised beef noodles and lamb dishes, giving us a few different ways to experience the flavors of Lanzhou cuisine. Service was polite and the overall experience felt relaxed. The restaurant has a straightforward setup, making it a good option for a casual meal, and the ability to customize the meal depending on whether we wanted something lighter or more filling made it easy to adjust the order to our preferences. The staff moved through orders with efficiency, and the food came out hot and well assembled. Overall, DunHuang Lanzhou Beef Noodle is a solid spot for anyone craving authentic Chinese beef noodle soup. The combination of flavorful broth, freshly made noodles, and well-prepared meat dishes makes it worth visiting. It is a simple concept done well, and a place we would return to when looking for a comforting bowl of handmade noodles.

There's condiments on the table so you can adjust the soup to your liking. The soup itself is light but complex, with a rich lamb broth that doesn't have any gaminess. A lot of Chinese folks like it the way it is but for American tastes, I think it would come off as slightly bland. I like to have a few sips adding only salt and white pepper to appreciate the original taste. Then I doctor it up with black vinegar, even more white pepper and their chili which is actually spicy.
