Went here for a late lunch today. To say that the service was not up to a normal standard would be an understatement. We were seated and forgotten about. We needed to ask the hostess for a waitress after at least 15 minutes. Drinks from the bar were forgotten and food orders were wrong. Our waitress brought 3 of 4 meals and needed to be reminded while she aimlessly wandered the restaurant with another tables food that we saw her bring back to the kitchen 2 times before she got it to the correct table. People who came in after we ordered received their food prior to us. At one point I went to the bar to get water because our waitress was nonexistent for so long that the entire table was out. Now for the positive. The food was better than the service. read more

Was walking by on a Wednesday about 5 or so, trying to find somewhere to have a snack and stumbled upon this place. So glad we did! It happened to be happy/social hour so it was nice to be able to take advantage of that. We ordered from the social hour menu 2 drinks and a 10" pizza. We were thrown off that for happy hour 6 wings were $14 so as much as we wanted to try the wings, we didn't. Our drinks were good, I got the guavarita it was really good nice guava flavor. We got the meat pizza minus bacon it was really good! We split it (3 slices each) and probably would have been full with another appetizer but we hadn't eaten all day so we might have just been extra hungry. Service was really good as well I can't remember our servers name but he was really nice and just attentive enough. The restaurant was pretty empty and everything came out pretty quickly- my only regret was not trying that chocolate chip bread pudding it was calling my name but I passed on it so If ever I make it back to DC I'll definitely try that but get the pizza it's so good! read more

I always like to try pizza spots whenever I'm visiting a city. And I liked this place! If I lived in DC I can see myself frequenting this spot alot. My pizza's crust and just everything about it was so yummy. My side Caesar salad was good too. Sat in bar area, Bartender was our server, forgot his name. But shoutout to him as he was great! Lots of seating area inside. I highly recommend this place. read more

I came to DC to run the Cherry Blossom 10M and the night before a big race I always crave pizza. This place wasn't far from my hotel and the pizza looked good. And it WAS. My server was not the best - not attentive but not rude or anything - but the food was worth it. I got the pig and pineapple pizza? It had pineapple and bacon and red onion. Delish. I would return if I was in the area again. If I didn't have plans tonight honestly I'd go back for another pizza read more

The food was amazing the ambiance was nice the service was questionable. I can't tell you the name of the other server because she never introduced herself, thankfully Manuel saved the afternoon. I will be back! She might have been having a bad day. read more

What a great place. We had been walking for a few hours and we were not dressed up so we were looking for a casual spot with good food and drinks. Well this place was it. Everything was so on point. We started with the jalapeño cucumber margarita that was soooo good that we needed another. Then they brought out a complimentary order of bread which was like a mini pizza with fresh minerals with fresh pasta sauce. Delicious. My husband and I read the reviews and we were sad they just had changed the menu but our waitress guided us thru the best of the new stuff. We had a burger with the side of the apple / pear salad with fresh blue cheese. It was cooked perfect. I had the crab cake which was HUGE and loaded with tons of crab in abed if tartar sauce, a side of potatoes and fresh asparagus. My husband raved it was the best crab cake he ever had and the sides I have to say were amazing- the garlic and lemon shone through! We ate outside on the street patios and the weather was beautiful. Don't miss this place. Service was excellent too. Surprised this place wasn't busier. Sad I didn't take pictures of our food. It was plated great! read more

Stopped by today for the first time for lunch and ended up leaving. Ordered drinks and a pizza at the same time. The pizza arrived before the drinks and there was pieces of plastic and paper in the pizza. Apparently the plastic separators from the prosciutto slices were just sliced into pieces with the topping and cooked on pizza. Highly disappointing as the place seemed pretty decent. read more

Happened to be staying nearby and walked by this place. We made a quick reservation for a party of 9 and they quickly accommodated. Had the matchbox mule and was blown away. It was perfect after a long day of walking around DC sightseeing. I wanted to try the mojito for a second drink but the mule was too good and I had to have a second. The food was amazingly the brined then fried half chicken was amazing and juicy. It's the best chicken I've ever had. I wish I had a place like this near where I lived . All 9 members of our party were very happy with our food and drinks. read more

I took some of my mentees at work to matchbox. Their happy hour menu is solid and reasonably priced. You tried a whole bunch of different foods but I only took a couple pictures. They are top 10 Black owned restaurants located in the DMV area. The service was awesome and the energy was peaceful. Highly recommend. read more

I went to matchbox on a Sunday after my younger cousins basketball game (Georgetown vs. providence) my family drove all the way from Jersey to be together with us! We had a party of 12 and Richard (I'm not sure if he was a supervisor he wore a blue button up shirt) Maurice who was supposed to be our original waiter was terrible I understand short staff but was ruined it for me were his smart remarks as he notices Mr. Rich was catering to us! However this review is about Richard he was very polite, and so funny we laughed and had such a joyful time with him. I will definitely be back with my girls for his service ! read more

This place gets 2 star because it's a cool place downtown DC and had great customer service. And great Ranch lol The food was disappointing and over priced. I had a prosciutto and fig pizza. It looked better than it tasted. It was really hard, it was like eating a cold tortilla. The toppings were missed proportioned. Overall not good. read more

Stopped here on a day in DC to grab a quick lunch while doing tourist-y things. We split a GF pepperoni pizza and after it was delivered were basically ignored the entire rest of the time. We never got the chance to ask for anything else, as our server literally never came back by again. Our check took forever to get and get back, which was frustrating when we just wanted to leave. The food was overall good, what we ordered, but the service was subpar. read more

The pizza is sub-par at best. The miniburgers were okay, but how can one screw up those? Decent cocktails. Horrible service, and the place could use a good cleaning. For the value, it's not worth it. There are far better pizza places. With 12 known locations as of this review, perhaps the quality has suffered with expansion. I don't recall this place being so bad when I first tried it about 10 years ago. read more

I miss the old location. As others have mentioned, it seems like the portions have gotten smaller, in addition to the quality going down as well. The pizzas look a few inches smaller than they used to be and they are very thin with skimpy toppings. There was only a thin layer of cheese on my pizza too. It also tasted old even though I know they just made it. The drinks are pretty good though, especially on happy hour, though they are a little on the sweeter side depending on who's making it. There doesn't seem to be any consistency. The jalapeno cucumber margarita sounds delicious but it is nasty, the mix they use is too sweet and you don't taste any lime flavor at all. The sangria is pretty sweet too but it's also pretty boozy. My favorite drink, however, is the Light the Fire, it's not too sweet, spicy, and fairly strong (note that the "bubbles" aren't sparkling wine, which is misleading and a bit of a disappointment). Happy hour is decent: $7.50 for cocktails, $7 for wine and $5 for rail and beer. HH food consists of $10 pizzas, $7 burgers and wings, and a few other things. Unfortunately, this will not be a regular spot for me because their service is too inconsistent. Some bartenders just post up and talk to their friends, completing ignoring the customers, and others are better and more alert. I also don't like that while I am clearly there for happy hour and order off the happy hour menu, the bartenders push me to order other off-the-menu drinks, when I then ask them if it's on happy hour they say "No, it's regular price xx". Well, then why the hell are you telling me about it during happy hour? Oy vey! read more

Terrible service, food was sub par and overpriced for the quality offered. Avoid this place. Go somewhere else

We were so pleased that we went back next time we had theater tickets. This time they messed up one of the two orders so we just shared one pizza. They were willing to re-make it, but we did not have time. Also, service at bar was uncharacteristically inattentive. Pizza and wine choices still good. read more

Fun restaurant. Very lovely before the hockey game. Really good service. Well staffed. Hostess helped us when our server was unavailable. Buffalo wings were really good. Fig and prosciutto pizza with pear salad was great. Pepperoni pizzas were a little spicy for our taste. read more

This is a smaller version of others I've been too, but it definitely didn't lack in anything. The service was very good, from the host to the wait staff! Everything was fresh & prompt even during a busy time frame... there was a mad rush due to an abundance of out of town folks who were in town for the game. We decided to try something new, so we went with the fire+smoke pizza (added chicken) & hot honey mustard wings. If you like spicy this is definitely a must to try, yummy!!! I'd definitely come back and try some of their other dishes! read more

After watching a game at the Capital One arena, we stopped by this place as we were headed home. Their Pizza is very delicious and the price is really good. We got the Fire and Smoke and Chicken pesto and both were really good. The ambiance of the place was a little chaotic for me likely from the crowd that was screaming beside us. The service was very bad as we had to wait for about 5 to 10 minutes for even a host to come to the front desk to lead us to our table. Service was also slow. It's also dark inside the restaurant. A lot more could be improved. There's street parking but be careful not to get a ticket-- as we did! read more

Wow what a great happy hour. You do have to be seated in the bar area, but man oh man it's worth it. The drinks are great and a good deal for your money. The pizza is crispy and roasted and so well balanced flavor wise. The wings are crisp and juicy. The sliders. Oh my gosh the sliders. They're so simple. But so deep on flavor and perfectly cooked. I can't wait to come back to DC to come back here. read more

For those visiting the Capital One Arena for an event, this is a great spot to grab a bite to eat. If you are not familiar with the Matchbox chain, then you will be in for a treat. The menu covers a variety of options to satisfy many cravings. At the top of the list is the pizza ... quite good, with gluten free options as well. Of course you will want to pair it with one of the many brews they have on tap. NOTE: This is a OpenTable restaurant, so you can book a table in advance with the comfort of knowing you will not need to wait in a long line for food and drink prior to an event. read more

I feel like I had a weird experience here the other night. We made a reservation for New Years and got to the restaurant and were seated immediately. Our server took a bit to come over to our table. We both ordered drinks and the meatball appetizer. The meatball appetizer came out well before our drinks, which took around 20 minutes to make. Our waiter said the bartender was really backed up but I found this odd because it wasn't really that busy in the restaurant at the time. The drinks were alright. I ordered the cherry vodka drink and it was just average. We both ordered salads for our meals. The quality of the food at Matchbox is never an issue so we were both pretty pleased with what we ordered. However, our water glasses sat empty for nearly the entire meal and the service was really slow. I'm not really sure what happened but the whole meal felt really disjointed and the service was really lacking. read more

Stopped by one evening after work.... I work in the area in the same industry and was craving a fire & smoke pizza.... highly recommend it if u like food with a kick. I love to add chicken to it. Don't skip out on the ranch for your crust either! Rob was my bartender and gave prompt and friendly service with a smile. Catie, the manager, was engaging and lovely. I was well taken care of and felt very welcome despite coming towards the end of the evening, which if ur a late nighter, u know can be hit or miss at most places. They have a food HH during the day and late night, which is right up my alley, esp for a bite after finishing a long shift, so will most def be back for that and the service. read more

I'm a risotto fan and I found their arincini to be interesting. I liked the tomato base but it does lean toward the salty side. The crab soup was also interesting but salty. For the main course we tried the fish and chips (they were out of the crab cake) and the crab and shrimp fettuccine. The quality of the fish and chips would be on par with what you might find in an airport. The fettuccine base was similar to the crab soup base and the overall quality was average. read more

We had a great dinner here last night. We both had pizza. I went with the almost sausage pizza. It was my first time trying what I think are generally called "beyond meat" meats. It was definitely a hit. It had the flavor of sausage but not the high cholesterol that I need to avoid. The other ingredients such as onion & garlic added to the taste. It definitely got an A. My friend had the cremini mushroom pizza that was topped with fresh arugula & we both liked it a lot as well. read more

Overall, it was ok. Not the best pizza we've ever had. Started with the spinach artichoke dip. It was good, a bit more parmigiana cheese would really kick it up a notch. The pizza. Got a kids cheese, meat and a pepperoni. It was good. But, for the price in comparison to MOD, yes, I said it, MOD is a much better value overall. Would we go back? Eh, probably find a different pizza spot as I don't think there's much to rave about. But if your going to the Capital arena it's in a good location and easy access. read more

Looks like they moved my favorite restaurant even closer to my job. Not sure why they downsized, but that's not what's important as long as I don't have issues with wait time. So far no issues at this new location, except the obviously new staff. I've been about 4 times now since they have moved to Penn Quarter and the menu has slightly changed. They don't offer the rose sangria anymore (was my fave) and they use chips for the spinach dip, bleh. However, upon request they will being bread. Not the baguette, but it'll suffice and you have to ask. Matchbox has consistently remained a family, food and drinks for HH, going away lunch etc favorite. Definitely top 3 for me as far as American chain spots in the area goes. read more
