We hit Marlowe's while on the way to a concert at Oracle Park. The place was super busy and loud but they had some seating on their little covered patio area in the rear with no wait so I was super happy about that. We ordered 1/2 dozen oysters as a starter and their shareable burger with an order of fries. Weirdly enough, we received the fries first just by themselves. I will say the fries were amazing. As a French fry connoisseur, they were perfectly crunchy with the right amount of texture inside, seasoning was spot on. They came with some kind of horseradish sauce as a dip. It wasn't bad but I preferred my ketchup. The oysters were up next and they were really good, super fresh and briney. The burger came last, it was decent but I didn't love it. It was ordered medium but it was pretty pink. It also had the same kind of sauce as the fries. We didn't get our cocktails until our burger came which was a bummer but I imagine the bar was backed up since the place was hopping. Service was a bit slow but again the place was hopping. Overall, delicious food though. Probably not a romantic date type of place since it's so loud so keep that in mind. read more

There are now limited fast food places in San Francisco but the good news is there are lots of places that offers the cheeseburger and in most cases the cheeseburger is the litmus test and sets the tone for the rest of the menu for a restaurant. One place I enjoy going to for a cheeseburger in San Francisco is Marlowe. The menu has many different items throughout the day and evening but I was here midday and what's best in the menu for me was the cheeseburger. I had the Marlowe Burger which had some savory caramelized onions and horseradish aïoli with bacon which was not too crunchy and tasty with a good beef burger patty. The cheeseburger was delicious paired with a red wine along with good crispy Marlowe fries which had sea salt and herbs. Overall a good atmosphere to grab a cheeseburger and a drink in San Francisco. Everyone was hungry and annoyed when we left The skirt steak is a tiny bad cut of meat (definitely not good cut nor good marbling, poorly cooked (seemed like they just threw it in a skillet with salt and olive oil). I was really excited to try the dinner items but I was got there a bit before 5 so we only were able to order from the bar menu. Also not sure why there was a piece of the menu under the chocolate cake, if it was a newspaper or something chic I get it but it just didn't need to be there? Service: 4/5 gifted champagne! Pretty good is probably how I would best describe my experience at Marlowe. There were certain dishes that really shined but for the price point, I certainly expected a little more. We began our meal with drinks, of course. I ordered the smoky paloma which certainly did not cheat on smoke, it was bordering on burnt with the mezcal so this one is probably my fault. The gougéres, however more than made up for it. They were like savory profiteroles that came with the most delicious mushroom and brie accompaniment. Our next plates were the blue crab crepes and the bone marrow with beef tartare. The "crepes", though stuffed with sweet blue crab, was equivalent to one tacquito, halved in size. It was almost comical but the frisée salad was a nice pairing. As for the bone marrow, not only was the bone small but there was negligible marrow to scoop out which was really disappointing! The tartare with a poached quail egg was quite unique though! For mains, we went with the scallops which were grilled nicely but honestly completely overshadowed by the corn succotash which was delicious! Our second main was the pork cheeks which were braised perfectly! The cheese and potato croquette was also deliciously rich and nice and crispy! All said and done we were over $300 for 3 people. It's high but not unexpected considering the drinks. I did wish the room was quieter, that the lights didn't constantly get dimmer, and that the service wasn't as affected by the large tables (I doubt the party of 20 just walked in). Been coming to Marlowe since about 2012 and the Marlow Burger has been up there on my list of best burgers ever since. I miss their old cozier location on Townsend, but this one on Brannan is a solid upgrade and more inviting. I pretty much always stick to the burger, but everything I've had is high quality and delicious. Fried chicken sando, brussels sprout chips, deviled eggs, deviled egg sando, pork chop, desserts - it's all delicious! This last time I went with my dad after a Warriors game and he got the Salmon which he really enjoyed. The bite I had tasted great. An update! Came here for a quick weekday lunch and turns out that burger is cheaper at lunch at $17. Definitely come here at lunch instead. This time I ordered the fried chicken and I absolutely loved it. The chicken was so airy and the batter was so unique like I swear they probably included some egg yolk in it to make it flakier. Couple that with a soft bun and their amazing aioli and I just could not be happier. The ambiance is also fantastic with cow print on some chairs, fantastic black and white tiling and a cool bull's head on the wall. Service is efficient and attentive. The waiter and waitresses were very friendly and kept checking on us which I appreciate. The steak tartare (5/5) was incredible. We got deviled eggs, salmon crudo, steak tartare, the burger, and the ribeye. I liked the deviled eggs and steak tartare, but thought the other dishes and mains were okay. Generally, I found the bites and starters to be better than the main, I don't think the ribeye was that good at $55, so I personally would not order that dish here again. I was more positive about the service and atmosphere rather than the food. I'd be open to returning, but more likely for a specific occasion or convenience, and I'd just only do bites and starters and no mains since I think there are other spots nearby that are better mains at this or a higher price point. The service was outstanding, the moment we were done with a plate someone took it away from us. We tried the deviled eggs, fried green tomatoes, little gem salad, burger, and banana bread budding. To drink, I had the Juicer and it was incredible. I'd love to have that drink everywhere I go. One of my favorite food items was the fried green tomatoes, they had such a nice flavor.
