Marlowe burger
Dominic B.

Ordered a pick-up lunch order. Pickup itself was very easy. Went up to the host stance, gave them my pickup info, and they brought it out, ready to go. - marlowe burger - heard this was one of the must try items. Caramelized onions, cheddar, bacon, and horseradish aioli. Usually I order burgers medium rare, but with to-go I usually order rare as I've found that a lot of to-go burgers tend to sit in a box and warm up one level of temp. So I ordered this one rare, and it came rare, which was impressive! I'll know to get mid rare next time. - chopped salad - well balanced and refreshing to enjoy alongside the burger Overall really solid, especially for an easy lunch in the area. I did find the horseradish in the burger to be a bit intense but that's just personal preference.

The countless dinners at Marlowe's former spot & that bright-eyed, optimistic version of myself from two decades ago will always hold a special place in my heart. Our recent lunch at their Brannan St. location didn't give me the same feels as before. I can't name what's changed about their once-amazing burger. It's still a decadent handheld package, & the caramelized onions & horseradish aioli give it intense flavoring, but this isn't the burger we once knew & loved. I do appreciate that our server & the chef made sure my patty was cooked to perfection. Side of fries, as well as our starter of Brussels sprouts chips, were properly crispy. Typical New American fare served in a black & white minimalistic space. I miss when Marlowe had all kinds of character & menu offerings that tasted extra special.

This was a great find. The greeting was very kind and accommodating and the food was excellent. My friends all ordered the skirt steak and were all talking about how amazing it was. I order the pork cheeks and they were beautifully prepared and tasty. We wanted to try the crème brûlée but they ran out so word of advice, order early. Overall I was very pleased with the presentation, service, kindness and taste. Top notch and I will be back.

Marlowe Burger (a la carte @$16.00)+ fries ($8.00) with a horse radish sauce

Dropped by Thursday afternoon checking out the area. Restaurant was maybe at 75% capacity with a mix of engineers working nearby and investment/business people discussing potential deals. There weren't many food establishments nearby so this was a limited option. Ordered the Marlowe Burger and Fried Chicken sandwich, both with fries that was an additional $8.00 as the burgers are a la carte. The buns were tasteless and wished it was toasted or spread with sauce to add some texture profile and taste. Both sandwiches were cooked okay but flavor profile was seriously lacking. The white sauce had a strong horse radish taste but that wasn't going to save the sandwich at all. The fried chicken was two pieces which made it fall apart while eating. Fries were crisp and tender but many pieces were small like two inches long. Short fries looks like it was scooped from leftovers at the bottom of the bag. Service was okay but the vibe felt like the employees were not happy working there. It wasn't super busy as the crowd didn't order much food. Pricewise -on point for what it is worth but I wouldn't come here to eat a delicious meal. For sandwiches and burgers, get in-n-out or the multiple fried chicken sandwiches places that are to die for.

We were looking for a relaxed spot for a lite boozy Sunday brunch and Marlowe hit the spot. We ordered savory (Gougère with smoked salmon) and sweet (the ricotta donuts we freshly made lite and filling) both hit the spot and washed it all down with cocktails and sparkling wine. We sat at the bar, best spot in the restaurant. The bartender was great and all the staff are great. Haven't had the burger in awhile but definitely on the list for my next visit.

Farm Egg SCRAMBLE

Farm egg scramble was super fresh, came out fluffy, warm, and delicious! We also got the Marlowe burger to be shared by the table, hence it was cut into 4 pieces. Solid burger and highly recommended! Thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant ambiance as well, amazing service.

Best dish of the night Grilled GULF SHRIMP

We passed by Marlowe over the years but never did stopped in since I always thought they are known for their burger, bone marrow and devils eggs. They are always packed and has cozy ambiance. We saw on the menu posted outside a scallop and.crab dish so I decided to venture in for the crab, it is crab season after all. We didn't have reservation but it was a Tuesday night so we got seated right the way. Sadly there were no crab with scallop on the menu inside, it was just scallop and broccolini... which we ordered, it was a bit rich (drenched ) in butter for my taste. Since I am a seafood gal and not so much meat eaters, we ordered everything seafood focus. Everyone was friendly and attentive and food arrived promptly. Nothing stood out to me, they were not bad but didn't satisfy my taste buds. The squids and clams was somewhat bland and watery. The grill shrimps was the best dish of the night, the kick of wasabi in that cocktail sauce though is no joke. We actually order BBH and a papaya salad from Que Viet next door to go so I can have a bite when we get home. Perhaps next time we try a burger instead. First time I saw a 7% SF mandates fee on the restaurant bill. I truly hope they passed on all off the 7% to their staff as SF mandate for Healthy SF is only 4% so not sure what the other 3% was for. I guess doing business in SF is challenging with rising cost so every bit of FEE will help restaurant bottom line. I don't mind paying it if it's truly for the staff and not just for profit though.

Made reservations for a Saturday night at 8:45pm and it was busy! The inside is super cute with a lot of cow decorations. The staff were very kind and helpful. All of the drinks sounded really good and they were all delicious! Just a warning, there is one drink that says it's spicy so be warned, it is actually QUITE spicy. As for the food, my group of 5 family styled the food which was the way to go. Everything was very good and flavorful, but if you order yourself your own entree, I would think that the one flavor would be too overwhelming since most of their entrees were very meat heavy. The pork cheeks and scallops were the highlight!

Great neighborhood spot that fills up quick! I know they're known for their burger which looked inticing but opted for the pork cheek, tried the salmon and calamari. The pork cheek was literally melt in your mouth and so flavorful. The salmon and calamari were also amazing. For drinks went with the desert rose and Smokey Paloma. When I see mezcal or prickly pear on the menu...it's a must! And both were fantastic! Not overly strong and pretty big pours. The vibes are great. Def feel like a lot of locals love this place! Def be back!

Marlowe is super reliable and delicious again. Came in on a late Sunday night for dinner. Easy reservation and really warm and attentive service. Had deviled eggs, oysters and flank steak, which had a really interesting chimichurri and potato crisps. Delicious and unique. Easy In and Out from the city as well and super cute spot.

I haven't been to Marlowe in ages but it's still a solid place. We came in on a Friday night for dinner and everything looks amazing on the menu we had a hard time choosing. We started with the Manila clams and calamari even though it's an entree. We also had two orders of the potato croquette and scallops. The restaurant is cozy and quaint with an interesting mix of date night and groups. They have special cocktails on the menu. Service was attentive but we didn't feel rushed. For dinner I tried the pork cheeks.

Want a great burger before a Giants or Warriors game? If you do, this is it. Always a goto spot before the game and not just to fill up...to have an amazing Marlowe's burger that is perfectly cooked and assembled. After, you can walk to the game from there as the stadiums are close. While there are a ton of really good food options at Chase Arena or Oracle Park, this is a great place to get a quick bite before a game and it is really good. Great quality of meat, perfect ratio of meat to bun and it comes with shredded lettuce, bacon and cheese. Sounds pedestrian but I assure you, it is not Can't go wrong here at all...service was on point as well. Decor was California cafe...nothing too exciting but for a quick bite...this is it.

Black Pepper & Parmesan GOUGERES

Came for brunch. Tried to make a reservation online but they were full. They opened at 10:30 am so I showed up about 15 min before opening just in case. They take walkins and we were one of the first people to get seated. By the time we left though, the restaurant was full and there was a line. We ordered the egg sandwich, gougeres, pork schnitzel, egg sandwich and burger. The pork schnitzel was like pulled pork fried in panko. It was so tender. The gougeres were little bread puffs which you scoop salmon and creme fraiche into then eat. The burger was for my young nephews to share. We had asked for the aioli on the side but they brought us one with it in the burger initially which was too spicy for my nephews. They fixed it though and brought us a new one. The burger was juicy and had good flavor. My friend also liked his egg sandwich but there was too much dressing on the salad. Service was attentive and the atmosphere was good.

Ask the Community - Marlowe

Are there vegetarian options for "the experience"?

Yes veggie on menu. Very yummy items too. Go for it.

Do you have good vegetarian options?

Yes but I do not remember all the dishes, but they had many good salads.

Are you not serving bone marrow on your menu anymore?

Yes we are!!

When is Marlowe reopening? Can't wait to come back!

Went there for lunch 3/18/22. Good times!

Do they/you have gluten free and/or dairy-free options for dinner?

Yes!

Does this place have Gluten Free options for people with Gluten Allegies?

no - they may speak of it, but not really

Best place to park?

Street parking

IS this place good for families?

It depends on the age of the kids. It's definitely a loud, crowded, food scene/bar scene. If you have young kids, definitely not. Plus, the food is only ok.

Is the main dish here shareable?

The dish I ordered was just for one person. But if I got a plate of chicken strips and fries, I would think that would be ok for 2 people if u ordered dessert after.

Is this a good restaurant to talk business at lunch? I do like the idea of a casual elegance atmosphere yes calm enough where business can be discussed. Thoughts?

I think it depends on the client. It may be a little noisy. Depending on the time and the deal you are making, there are definitely other places that are a better business deal atmosphere.. hope that helps.

I liked the cardamom in the Beauty Mark as well that my partner ordered. We ordered shishito peppers and mushroom bahn mi sliders. The mushroom bahn mi sliders were amazing - the quality fillings and taste of the soft bun - I was unexpectedly hit with a bite of spice from maybe jalapeño seeds left but didn't sour my experience. The shishito peppers ended up being extremely spicy as well, those are usually just a few spicy and not the majority. The roasted lemon and salt was a wonderful combo but just too spicy to eat. However, the server very kindly removed it from our bill without us asking. We order the crostini because we were still hungry and that was an absolute hit. Delicious med-soft crostini with luscious berries and sweet honey. I didn't care my hands got sticky as it was soooo good! Great experience, I would be weary if the peppers as I'm a bit spice-intolerant but everything else was spot-on.

Seeing that it was named one of the top 50 best bars in North American, we had to check it out! We came in a Thursday night in mid-April about 9:45 PM. They have security outside thar checks IDs & also manages the queue in case the bar gets too crowded. We had no issues getting in, but there were zero indoor seats available - both the bar & table seating. Thankfully, they have a really cozy & well-lit patio area. The waitress let us know that even the outdoor patio has table-side service, so we made ourselves comfortable on the outdoor bench & within seconds she had brought us waters & cocktail menus. Weather outside was really nice, so I'm glad we actually sat outside. Each cocktail is $20, which definitely is a little steep, but I think the creativity, quality, & prestige of being named a top 50 bar supports the price. Each part of the menu is organized by liquor ie whiskey, vodka, brandy, gin, etc. We tried 4 drinks total. I only took menu photos of the pages we ordered from but they have a lot more selections. We ordered the Kung Fu Pandan, Silky Street, Rice Rice Baby, & Tropical Gangsta. We had some favorites over others, but all were very well crafted! The drinks came out pretty quickly considering how busy it was. The only hiccup was our final drink took quite a while. Turns out the ticket machine malfunctioned & deleted orders put in & caused a back-up. The waitress was so apologetic & ended up comp-ing 2 drinks, which she definitely didn't have to but it speaks volumes to the high standards they hold themselves to & their customer service. Overall, highly highly recommend checking this place out for a fun night out or post-dinner treat! Glad we made the decision to stop in!
