One of my newly discovered and now top 5 favorite restaurants in San Francisco! Everything we ordered was delicious and incredibly tasty. We luckily sat at the bar and truly enjoyed the experience with the bartender and his amazing recommendations! He truly made the experience and atmosphere that much more memorable. He showed us their speakeasy and now we're committed to coming back.

Ambiance: it's a New American restaurant and cocktail bar, located in SoMa area, front door in the alley and rear door attached to the hotel lobby Service: the servers and bar tenders were all very friendly and welcoming, provided useful suggestion Food & Drink: shareable bar style food and individual items on their menu, overall their food is very savory and drink is light HERB CRUSTED LAMB RIBS - **** five pieces of lamb ribs, served with pomegranate and mint relish dipping sauce, very juicy meat with bold flavors, recommend PARMESAN CRUSTED PORK CHOP - **** served with chili maple and topped with mustard frills, crispy edges and juicy inside, recommend SIBONA MARGARITA - *** Tres Paraguas blanco, Sibiona Alo-e, agave and lime, light taste Price: generous portions and decent prices, expect about $50 per person

This was my second time at "the Cavalier", both were team dinners for the company I worked for at the time. The atmosphere was cozy, the service attentive and the food and drinks good enough that I'm now thinking of coming back on my own dime. I think that says all that needs to be said.

We've been to this restaurant several times before and always had a great time. However after the last visit we are not likely to return. Both my husband and I had horrible food poisoning after our dining experience. Granted we shared oysters and steak tartare, and like all restaurants they had the warning about eating raw or undercooked food and food borne pathogens. However when we emailed the restaurant about our experience, we received no reply. It's really more about how they did not handle the experience and less about the food.

I would give this place a 3.5 but honestly with the price points and flavoring, I had to bring it down. 1. The service was wonderful. The staff and waiters were really kind and patient. 2. The ambience was really cute but it's super dim inside. But that's just how it is with any "fancy" restaurant. 3. All the food was really expensive but was all kind of mediocre... there wasn't much layering of flavors and was either too salty, too bland, or just kind of uncomfortable to eat. However the best thing we got on the menu was the butternut squash blossoms which were fried nicely and the flavor combination of the cheese and sweetness of the blossom went well together. One item I 100% do not recommend is the ahi tuna carpaccio. It had a really weird and strong alcohol like taste at the beginning and then dwindled down to an awkward fishy taste. Everything else is also in really small portions. Price to size to flavor ratio is off. Pick somewhere else if you want to eat better "fancy" food.

Hubby and I went during pride weekend, and let me say, first great thing about this place is the staff! Huge shoutout to our waitress! Another lady who I think was an assistant manager of some sort stopped by just to say hi and see if we were enjoying everything, which was so lovely. Pretty sure we saw the GM as well, just being very attentive to his staff and incoming guests. Honestly lovely to see. The table next to us got seated and was clearly drunk and had puke on their pride shirts. They were extremely disrespectful (and I think were asked to leave eventually), but the staff handled it beautifully!! We had truffle fries, brussel sprout chips, and truffle gnocchi, which were all top notch. I had the Pimm's cup, and hubby had a mocktail, both excellent. The Marlowe burgers were very good too. I think my favorite part was the peanut butter sundae...one of my favorite desserts I've had in a long time. We keep talking about how we would go stay in the city again just for that sundae! Ambiance was pretty quiet, but picked up more as the evening went on. I'm surprised it wasn't fully booked honestly. Kind of a hidden gem since it's part of a hotel.

I never forget to write about how good Cavalier was, their humble staff members and hostess, the holiday decor, and of course, the presentation and quality of the food prepared for me. Everyone loves Cavalier because the people I saw were here to dine on holiday occasions. This fine dining area looked like it was chosen the most when it comes to better tastier quality eats. Aside from the minty N/A drink, salads are a must-have for my appetizer. I liked how the Cavalier Salad was tossed perfectly; every greens and dressing in harmony. No need for a miso glaze as a more flavorful alternative. Cold greens complete; on to the warm greens! If I remember correctly: green beans, micro greens, cauliflower, squash, and the Tempura Shiitake Mushroom sitting on a big plate of coconut curry. I was surprised how any chef had made the coconut curry mild. It's a pleasant taste to have that even a non adventurous will have this veggie dish. The amount of breading of the Tempura was absolutely filling and I hardly have enough room for any dessert. Best place to dine for the holidays; however, the menu option had changed since I first came here. Maybe one day, I'll be lucky enough to come across the Skuna Bay Salmon dish followed by kombucha. The gaming room upstairs is for the private party. Perhaps I'll ask my supervisor to choose Cavalier as another Golden Gate Taproom to celebrate next time.

Marlowe Burger. Still good as ever but today I could've done without the bacon
    Erika C.

I think the Marlowe burger's still got it, though today I could've passed on the bacon. Fries are okay, I like that the plate comes with aioli so that I don't have to ask for it in lieu of ketchup. I was disappointed with dessert - I saw some pics of a sticky toffee pudding but they don't make that anymore. It's been replaced with a sticky toffee *bread* pudding. It was good here though, unlike the one from monk's kettle that they really shouldn't serve. It was spacious and there was plenty of seating without a reservation. Came on a Wednesday night. Service was actually kind of amazing. There were like 3-4 staff helping us right when we sat down. We were there for a second dinner and they split the dish for us without us asking other than saying we'd share. I was impressed. It made me think a lot of places really don't try anymore these days.

one of the better british restaurants in sf for sure! the service was top-notch--apart from being friendly and personalized, they were attentive and gave one of us water to clean up a food spill on their clothes. food-wise, we got the: - smoked deviled eggs ($4): loved the bacon bits in there - sautéed snap peas ($15): fine but not worth - brussels sprout chips ($14): perfectly crispy and lemon-y, but $14 seems a bit pricey - house made chicken nuggets ($13): an elevated take with the beer batter, and it was very moist inside - scotch egg ($19): the shrimp and chorizo really added a punch of flavor - fish and chips ($29): I didn't think this was anything special, wish they gave more fish - marlowe burger for the table ($17): it was just alright, I did like the caramelized onions and bacon inside though - porcini gnocchi ($18): although quite salty, the sauce was absolutely delicious--very mushroomy! - sticky toffee bread pudding ($13): loved the spin of classic toffee pudding, and it was much lighter than other bread puddings - chocolate peanut butter bites ($10): the dark guittard chocolate was luxurious, and the crunch from actual peanuts was perfect

Loved every single thing about our experience tonight. Six of us in the bar for dinner. Impeccable service. Absolutely DELICIOUS food. The onion rings are insanely perfect. Gorgeous room. Truly wonderful EVERYTHING. Bravo!!!!

A nice warm ambiance place especially during the holidays. Staff was friendly and attentive. Cocktails were slightly above average but the dessert was a disappointment. The bread pudding was a tad dry and small in portion. However, the brussel sprout chips were delicious. The devil eggs were ordinary but pricey. The salmon was done perfectly and the burger was alright (bland in flavors). The seating was not very comfortable when you had to cram into a small table with a handful of guests in your party. For a $$$ restaurant, I expect everything to be on point.

Had the Marlowe Burger - asked for medium rare, came perfectly cooked. Fries were good, standard pour on house wine. A little pricey when compared to other similar menus at other restaurant. Has a Very nice warm ambiance . The fish and chips are really good, and the Brussel sprout chips are also interestingly different.

There are two rooms, one in the front with a puzzle theme, and another in the back with a Middle Earth (Lord of the Rings) vibe. Staff was friendly and took time to explain the clever menu to us!

Lore's Wonderland escape room was a fun and delightfully whimsical experience. **This review is…read moremainly for the escape room, as we did not order any additional drinks outside of the escape room.** THE SPACE // Lore Speakeasy and Escape Room has cool themed decor everywhere, from the dimly-lit speakeasy/bar room in front, to the Middle Earth/Lord of the Rings-themed board game room, to the individual bathrooms, and of course the escape room's multiple Alice in Wonderland-themed rooms. Clearly a lot of effort went into building these rooms and evoking a certain vibe for each. THE ESCAPE ROOM // The puzzles in the escape room varied in difficulty - some required us to think a bit more, some required our observational skills to work harder, and others required a light level of physical skill/movement. We were perplexed a few times but never got stuck for too long, as the White Rabbit (played by Phoenix, the live actor/puzzle master) would jump in occasionally to provide clues over the speaker or in person. It took us about 1 hr 20 min to finish the entire escape room; I thought the pacing was good. THE [ESCAPE ROOM] DRINKS // Lore's escape room experience comes with "a flight of themed cocktails or mocktails, including "potion"-style drinks that are integrated into the experience as you progress", per the website. We got to choose one cocktail/mocktail option (Korean Cold Noodles) from a list on the website, and the other two drinks are pre-selected to supposedly fit into the Wonderland theme, with the flavors described online as "berry" and "peach". You can get both cocktail and mocktails for your party, in case some people want alcohol and others don't. We all enjoyed the flavor of the Korean Cold Noodles cocktail, which was refreshing and surprisingly a bit minty in the mocktail version. However, we didn't like the two other two pre-selected themed drinks as much. The "berry" drink gave us cherry cough syrup vibes, and the cocktail version of it was quite strong. The "peach" mocktail drink reminded me of canned fruit syrup; we also were missing the two cocktail versions, though we decided not to ask for them as the mocktail version already was less than impressive. One other missed expectation here was the size of the drinks that we received in the escape room. We were expecting full-sized cocktails, like what they serve in the speakeasy in front. Instead, we found out that the drinks are served in small "vials". Given the size of the drinks in the escape room, combined with us not even enjoying two out of the three drinks, I would preferred to go through the escape room without the drinks at all, and likely pay a bit less for the escape room then. OVERALL // I'd still recommend the escape room as a good one-time experience with a date/friends/family. Just don't expect too much from the included themed drinks! The speakeasy drinks on the main menu do sound unique/tasty, so I might come back again to try those sometime.

Delicious med-soft crostini with luscious berries and sweet honey. I didn't care my hands got sticky as it was soooo good! Lastly, major shout out to the hard-working bartender last night who provided kind, prompt and attentive service on top of greeting all patrons coming in, taking orders and bussing tables. You rock!

It's also a fantastic spot to catch a happy hour drink before the sun goes down. The bartenders are amicable and the bar is dark and moody - perfect for a drink to unwind and catch up with friends or colleagues.

Stopped by on a Friday at 1pm, pleasantly surprised to see there was no line at all! Their menu is…read morepretty small so I was set on the matcha einspanner. It comes already sweetened and no adjustments can be made, only added. I thought it was pretty decent, I do enjoy the soybean and matcha powder they sprinkle on the top. Definitely on the less sweet side so I appreciated that. As for the matcha flavor, it tasted pretty standard to me. Definitely nice how they have an indoor and outdoor area. The outdoor area gets pretty hot since it's similar to a greenhouse but nice for photos. We ended up coming back inside since it was too hot outside. The inside spots definitely fill up fast due to the AC and nice ambience but we were lucky someone had just left. Super nice spot to just chill or have a date!

I pretty much try any creamy drink that has a whipped egg white. This was an amazing drink, bright citrus, smokey whiskey, and a creamyness from the egg. Next the Miran Miyagi oysters were very fresh, I forgot what was in it, but there was some crunchy bits for texture and there was also a good kick of spice. The Hojicha Affogato was their dessert, and it was also great. It had dark chocolate gelato and a raspberry compote. I came back to try the Matcha Einspanner since I heard good things about it. I never had one before, but if they're all like this, then I love einspanners. It had a super thick whipped cream with a nice high quality matcha. The service was also very friendly. And since this is a bar/ cafe, it's super chill vibes.
