We went as a group on business travel after work. The ambiance is excellent as was the food. We recommend this restaurant.

We walked 20 minutes to get here and I gotta tell ya, I'd walk another 20 if it meant I could fit more of Mama's food in my stomach. Their tuna tartare is amazinggggg and their calamari is so perfect I could cry. The kindest stranger even let us try his scallops which were the best damn scallops I've had. Tons of specials and although it can get a bit pricy, the food is worth it. Coming back...in an hour when I'm hungry again. read more

This place is great! We sat outside on a warm day in early June. We were all craving seafood and this place hit the spot. We started out with oysters. They have different varieties, so check the menu when you get there. We split some Long Island and Virginia oysters and they were delicious! Prices for oysters ranged from $1.25-$3 depending on the variety. I got the crab cake platter for my entree, because, duh what else is one to order when in Baltimore? It did not disappoint! Also came with 2 sides. Friends also got the crab cake, lobster roll and seafood club sandwich and sue of mac and cheese. We all enjoyed our meals. It is on the pricy side, but everything is fresh and very high quality so you're getting what you pay for. read more

The waiters accommodated us after we added an extra guest to our party. Although it was quite busy (it was a Friday evening & Opening Day), the wait staff handled everything quite well. The food was pretty good. I had the fried shrimp & mashed potatoes with Ceasar salad. Everything was fresh and tasty. I would definitely go back again. =) read more

Mama's will go down in history as my first experience with raw oysters. Wow. Just. Wow. We were sent to Mama's by a few sites and a few friends, after we said we only had a few days there in Baltimore and wanted some great seafood. It's in a really cute area of town with shops and ice cream places surrounding a little park. The food was incredible, and the service was really great. My 2 year old came with us and was treated so well, which is usually not the case in a nice place. It was really busy, but we were seated pretty quickly. We got a variety of dishes, and pretty much everything we had was great - the fish and chips, mussles and oyster sandwich were all awesome. I honestly just can't wait to get back to Baltimore to get back to Mama's. read more

So your bike 7 miles after you just went back to Baltimore and then your graded by no hospitality I don't know I'll let them work on us up but there's no hospitality and the manager told me that she didn't know if you want to serve me anymore I'm like well I'm on a bike I just asked for one more drink my Jack and I was out in completely terrible I have lived in Baltimore of warriors I've been a mama is 100 times read more

Awesome spot a local buddy took our crew to after catching the Yanks @ Camden on Easter Sunday... Incredible crab cakes with HUGE JUMBO lumps, great crab dip, super fresh shrimp cocktail, delicious mac n cheese, and awesome drinks. The orange crush is what every orange should aspire to become; a delicious cousin to the screwdriver (which should be noted I swore off of at 16), and the "Blue on Blue" (oyster & cocktail sauce w/ PBR) was different and surprisingly good. Not a huge space to stand around the bar, but to sit down and eat at the bar or grab a drink waiting for a table, you'll enjoy whatever you order. Staff and customers all seemed to be enjoying themselves. Great find, always good to know a local! read more

So here's the list of things We got, me and one other person: 6 raw clams -delicious and fresh 6 raw oysters - SO delicious, and everyone was very knowledgable about all the varieties they offer Oyster po boy - oh yum, yum yum. just straight friend oysters on a bun, with a side of fries Duck gumbo - somewhat yum...some nice big chunks of duck and its full of flavor, just maybe not my favourite flavours, I can see why they're a seafood place more than just an everything place. Angels on horseback - I forgot, I really like oysters when theyre cooked too, I just like them so much more raw. Anyway these are cooked oysters wrapped in bacon and slatthered in some sauce. To be completely honest... I was a little less than impressed. Next time I'm going to go with their seafood in either simple preparations or raw. The sauce was overpowering, as was the bacon unfortunately, but maybe I'm just a purist when it comes to seafood Mac and cheese - even the side portion is baked with breadcrumbs crunchy on top. yum. Two blue and Blues - beer, cocktail sauce, oysters. I loved these. Oysters and alcohol should have their own food groups. Side of coleslaw - regular. and two blue moons, very friendly and understanding bartender. We have a problem with self control. It was a lot. No complaints across the board, the staff was knowledgable the food was delicious,t read more

If you want the biggest, most fresh Oysters on the half shell, then Mama's is your pearl. This is a great crazy bar too, so after hours its filled with lively people and drinks galore. You must try the Blue on Blue...a freshly shucked oyster with spicy cocktail sauce and PBR beer..soo good. They also have oyster shooters too which is a combination of a freshly shucked oyster with cocktail sauce and vodka. My favorite is the Blue on Blue, but they are all soo good. They have the best fried calamari and other great appetizers, entrees and of course the drinks. My favorite is the Mojito..a classic but for all those who love Orange Crush drinks then they make a mean drink of that too. This restaurant is in the heart of Canton, so you can make your rounds if you like or just hang out and relax at Mama's. read more

Either make a reservation or expect to wait at this Canton and Baltimore institution. Great place to take out of town guests. You've got to get an Orange Crush when you come here! Was visiting my sister and she took me here for some good seafood. We were 9 minutes late and by the time the people ahead of us in line cleared out 11 minutes late. The rude host said I cancelled your reservation, you are over ten minutes late. In that 1 minute they did not fill our table, so what's with the attitude. It was Sunday night. Anyways crab cakes were good and meaty. Mac was good too and it was a nice selection of local beers. All in all a decent homey place. read more

I'll make this short and sweet. Mama's can simply not be beat. The Wings are better than some WING places I've been. Washed down with a cold tap beer is amazing too. First thing's first, I did have a great Caesar Salad. The entrees came and I am never surprised with how much food they provide (this isn't my first trip here). The Mac and Cheese is a must! If you are going to this place, no matter what you order, please get the Mac and Cheese! Main entree-wise, I can recommend the fish and chips, the stuffed shrimp, and of course the crab cakes. All three are winners with NO flaws. Mama's is a little pricey, but seriously it is well worth the money. Don't wait to go! Get over there now! read more

Delicious mimosas! Excellent food and service. Our party was seated right away, next to the warm fireplace! Perfect venue for brunch, have one of their signature brunch drinks! Stopped over here on the way to DC and it definitely did not disappoint! Ordered the crab and artichoke dip, and it was amazing of course Also had the double crab cake platter with Mac n cheese. This place was phenomenal! Great seafood. Very fresh. And such a homie fun ambiance with good service. I'm very satisfied!

Meet for lunch the fresh selection of the day was amazing, I got the rockfish with fries and broccoli. The fish portion was an excellent size, nice thick cut. I ordered it pan seared. We sat outside, the weather was perfect today. I would only have to drop a star because the food took some time to come out. Otherwise I would recommend this restaurant. read more

Mama's on the Half Shell - Bars Near Me - Baltimore, Maryland

We went to this restaurant (due to Yelp reviews) this past Saturday after an Indians/Orioles game. We sat at the bar downstairs and it was very comfortable and clean. I ordered the seafood club which was big and had lots of seafood in it. It was delicious! My fiance ordered the crab cakes and he liked them a lot, but had a couple crunches that he was unsure about. The service was pretty good, the prices were good and we would definitely return. This is in a popular area with a lot of little places around it. read more

I love is this place! The crab cakes are delicious and just the right size. My family loved their meals tonight!

I was so looking forward to Mama's on the Half Shell, after reading all the great reviews here...and I left feeling slightly disappointed. And now I feel guilty for feeling disappointed and not loving it, but anyway. I really like Nacho Mama's, two doors down, so I expected to love this place, too. The BF and I came here on a Tuesday afternoon for lunch. I liked the atmosphere right away. We sat ourselves in the bar area and promptly ordered two Blue on Blues--oyster shooters with PBR and hot sauce. Really, really good, and each one was only $3. We thought this meant good things for the meal, and we were excited to order...except the server would *not* come take our order; she wouldn't even look our way! We finally ordered the Oyster Po' Boy ($9.99), Fish and Chips ($14.99) and a side of Mac and Cheese ($2.75). The Po' Boy was fantastic. Four tender fried oyster on a very nice bun (homemade?) with coleslaw and slightly spicy tartar sauce. The fries were hot and crispy. Very nice! I would go back and get this for sure. The Fish and Chips were...well, the piece of cod was gigantic, so you got your money's worth. The fish was slightly overbreaded, but was pretty good. But what do you think about when you hear "Fish and Chips"? British, right? I.E., Fish and French Fries. Nope. Fish and *Potato Chips*. It does not say this on the menu, so it was quite a surprise. The BF was very unhappy, and in the end I traded him my french fries to make him happy. I think the potato chips were homemade and had Old Bay on them. Good, but not what we expected, so it was kind of disappointing. The mac and cheese was so-so; my version is actually much better and much less oily (cheap cheese, I guess), but it was respectable. Lunch cost us over $40 for two entrees, two shooters, a beer and a side. No lunch menu, I assumed. Would I go back? Hmmm...I don't get up to Baltimore that often, so I'm not sure I would make a trip just for this. The po' boy was really, really good, but I think I might prefer Nacho Mama's, in general. But I did hear the Bloody Mary's here were excellent, so I'd love to try one of those! read more

this place is the spot. super fresh oysters, we feasted on the chincoteague and shooting point, both from Virginia. we took advantage of the happy hour pricing; 6 oysters for $6 -just crazy for the quality. the mussels were just as good, we went with the bartenders recommendation and ordered cajun style. flavors from the cajun seasoning on the petite mussels from Prince Edward Island was outstanding... a can't miss for happy hour. a good runner up to the cajun mussels is the mussels in housemade marinara, delicous. after several rounds of oysters and mussels our closer was the crab cake. simply an awesome dish, with nice chucky lump crab meat. bar note: the restaurant features a great bar with a good beer selection. the decor is classic and warm, it gives you a super comfy feeling when you walk in. a drink worth trying at the bar is the orange crush. it is made with fresh juice, which makes it a good starter before eating. the bright sweet flavors help wake up the appetite. read more

First thing I have to say about Mama's is be prepared to WAIT! We went around 7pm on a Saturday night, and the wait was an hour to an hour and a half for a table of 2. We decided to tough it out. I'm not going to lie, it was a long and difficult wait. For a restaurant that's always so crowded, there's no area where people can stand and wait besides the bar. I wouldn't have had a problem waiting at the bar, but it was PACKED. It was cold and rainy outside, so we had no choice but to stand in the narrow entrance hallway. Additionally the hostess was a tad salty, and there was an over abundance of your typical Canton college-aged crowd. Not very pleasant to say the least. Anyway, on to the FOOD! I got the Maryland crab soup as an appetizer, and the crab imperial as my entree. The soup was tasty, but I felt like I was eating vegetable soup with some random pieces of crab. They stuck two small crab legs in the soup, and those had more crab meat than what was in the whole cup. Nothing special and disappointing for a seafood restaurant. I had to wait a little while for my entree because the waitress messed up my order. To compensate she gave us a round of free drinks, and I will never turn down free drinks! When I did get my crab imperial, I was quite pleased. It was rich, creamy, and chock full of crabmeat (unlike my soup). My two sides were the Mac & Cheese (yummy but not as good as mine) and the vegetable medley. The vegetable medley was mediocre as most veggie medleys at restaurants are, but I felt like I needed vegetables so there. The portions are big, so I ended up taking half of my meal home. Overall I had a pleasant experience at Mama's (after we got seated) but it wasn't as great as I expected. It is kind of overpriced for the quality of the food. I should probably try going when it is less crowded and the weather is nicer, and I won't get the Maryland Crab Soup. I give Mama's 3.5 stars. read more

I probably would have given them 5 stars, but the 2 hostesses really drag the experience down a notch. I understand this place is busy and rightfully so. But, when patrons are seeking seats to accommodate their party, they should always be friendly and upbeat. During our wait for a table they made me feel as I was a nuisance as I waited for my table. Since they have no real way of managing reservations, I had no choice but to venture inside to check on the status of my table. Anyways, aside from the 2 subpar hostesses, our waitress, servers and food were fantastic. Drinks were refilled promptly and food came out nicely paced and in a timely fashion. The seafood chowder is hearty, flavorful and delicious. The blue point oysters were plump and sweet. I really like their seafood club. Fried oysters, bacon, and shrimp salad.. great. This is probably my favorite restaurant in the Canton square area. They are a busy spot, so plan accordingly. read more

We don't go to this restaurant as often as we would like to because of long wait. We usually have to wait 20-30 minutes to get a table but the food is definitely worth it. You can get quality seafood dishes so if you are a seafood person, I would highly recommend it! Seafood bouillabaisse - it is large enough to feed two people and packed with all types of seafood in buttery, flavorful broth. Delicious! Fish and Chips- I am not a huge fan of fish and chips usually but their fish batter is delicious. Its consistency is similar to funnel cake's. It does get loud and busy on weekends. read more

Love the food here! This is my go-to seafood place in Baltimore. Their food is always fresh and delicious. The place is small so there's not a ton of seating, but the upstairs has some space. The downstairs bar is usually packed. read more

Let me start by saying the only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because it is very cramped inside the restaurant and parking was close to a nightmare! The food was amazing, with the exception of the crab dip I had as my appetizer. I was kind of disappointed with that. But, my meal was sooo good! I had the crab cake, macaroni and cheese, and asparagus. The dishes were seasoned excellently. I didn't even need to add anything (salt, pepper)! I would definitely recommend...just know that it is close quarters inside the restaurant and you may have to search for parking! I'd say it's worth a try. read more

I went here on a Saturday around 11:30am for brunch. I want to first say that they have THE BEST BLOODY MARY IN BALTIMORE. I'm a Bloody Mary connoisseur so I've had them all around. Their flavors and garnishes were absolutely perfect. They had a nice brunch menu, however I ordered a crab cake sandwich with clams casino appetizer. The crab cake was great and the clams casino were very tasty (but not worth the small amount you get). Unfortunately the french fries were basic frozen fries. We ate on the second floor which was a large dining room. The first floor has the large bar with barely enough room to walk around. They also had the raw oyster bar in the middle of the alcohol bar so it was convenient to order. Overall, it's a cozy place to enjoy brunch and Bloody Mary's with friends! read more

This was my second time here and the food was delicious. The server was very friendly. Amount of food for the price is great. Crab cakes are excellent. Big side salad too! read more

Yeah, I totally dig this place. My favorite meal is a blackened Tuna steak with french fries and a side of seaweed salad. I've had oysters here several times and they rock. Love the music, the service and the food (except the crab soup - way, way too salty). read more

I've visited twice in the past year. I have very mixed feelings about this restaurant since I had two very different food experiences here. My first visit was for a late Monday afternoon lunch with my boyfriend back in April. We arrived around 2pm and were promptly seated in their upstairs area. We ordered orange crushes for our drinks. Then, we each ordered a cup of their seafood chowder to start. We shared the grilled oysters for our appetizer. And we also shared an entree of the "fresh catch", which was rockfish for the day, and chose mac & cheese and asparagus as our two sides. The whole meal was very satisfying. Everything we had that day was quite tasty. Loved the seafood chowder. It was loaded with chunks of seafood and was very hearty. The grilled oysters with the parmesan smoked paprika compound butter was really good. We couldn't help spoon out every bit of the juices left in the shells with the bread. The fish was fresh, meaty and cooked perfectly. I visited again in October, and I brought my family here since I had such a pleasant experience on my first visit. We came for a very late lunch around 3pm on a Saturday afternoon. It was actually quite packed and busy, so we waited about 15-20 minutes for a table for 6 upstairs. I ordered the seafood chowder to start my meal off again and the beer mussels for my entree. The seafood chowder looked promising but I was soon disappointed. It was still pretty hearty but for whatever reason it did not blow me away nor did I enjoy it as much this time around. I chose to get the beer mussels because I thought it would be pretty light compared to the hearty soup and saw a few reviewers raving about it. I actually enjoyed the spicy beer broth but was disappointed by the quality of the mussels. It wasn't fresh or cleaned properly and it was quite overcooked and dry. That was disappointing. I wasn't about to waste my food so I still ate it. The shrimp and the chorizo in it were probably the only things that somewhat redeemed it. The rest of my family didn't seem excited with their dishes either. Based on my first experience, I would've given them 4 stars. But for now, they will get 3.5 from me. This place actually excited me before but now I'm not so sure anymore. I may consider visiting them again in the future but will most likely go and try the many other restaurants in the area whenever I am visiting Baltimore. read more

Great seafood and the quintessential restaurant/pub feel. Highlights: Oysters, seafood chowder, mac n cheese side. Great waitress, good beer. Lowlights: Nobody greeted us at the entrance, leaving us to wander around. Scallops were $15 overcooked scallops but cost $25. Worth a return with friends and family! read more

Love the old time bordello ambience of the dining room. Heard great things about this place. Hope it's true. ------ Wow! Five-star crab cakes!! Almost entirely lump meat! Virtually no filler; delicately seasoned; sauted perfectly. The best of any I have had anywhere. Barbara Mikulsi would abandon her mother's recipe for the cakes at Mama's. Oysters on the half shell really fresh with flavorful briny liquor, unlike some many others that taste all washed out. If you don't like the brine, then don't eat oysters. Or slather them with the unnecessary sauces they are served with. The French onion soup was also "as good as it gets". Nice draft beer selection as well. What more could you want in Charm City. Next time I am close to the Canton area, my family and I are coming back here. Of course street parking at noon on a Tuesday is probably a lot easier than a Friday or Saturday night. But then again, I am hardly ever in Balto at those times. read more

A staple to seafood dining in B'More. I am always a happy gal when I can make a pit stop here while visiting. The area in general is awesome, lots of small restaurants & bars, but street parking only so be prepared. There is some seating outside as well as two floors but somehow the place tends to feel crowded. I've heard they MAY do reservations but somehow it doesn't work out sooo follow my instructions: put your name down and proceed immediately to the bar and try out an orange or grapefruit crush. Amazeballs and it definitely sneaks up on ya so watch out. Our table ordered a few aps that were all delicious: grilled oysters, mussles with marinara shrimp & perhaps andouille sausage??, and then the infamous crab dip. My fav were the osyters & mussles, I could probably eat a bagillion of them (no kidding) they were all dressed with amazing marinades. As for my meal, I can't seem to order anything but the crab cakes when I come here. I feel so guilty but they are SO good, all you need is the single (6oz) portion You can pick two sides with the platter dishes (crab cakes, scallops, tillapia, any fillet, etc). The options are usually rice, mash taters, veggies, side salad, mac & cheese, etc. I highly recommend the mac & cheese even if it's a gut buster, and yes that's a layer of butter at the bottom of the bowl (loves it). The house maple balsamic they offer is also delicious and goes well on the side salad. It seems that everyone always enjoys their food here, I've never heard someone not like their meal. But then again, maybe it's because we've had a few too many Grapefruit Crushes? The only reason I gave 4 stars is due to slow service sometimes and lack of consistency with reservations, other than that bon appetite & enjoy my friends. read more

Mama's was our second choice after we learned Regi's our go to eatery had an electrical fire and had not yet opened for business. So we reserved a table in the downstairs dining area because two of us have foot problems and cannot navigate the steps. We had great service and our server was very attentive during the meal and even filled our glasses again and again with iced tea or water. We ordered three cups of crab soup. The cups in Mama's are a jumbo size portion and the soup almost filled me before my entree came. The soup had two nice size crab claws sticking up and were quite tasty when consumed. The soup itself was filled with veggies and some pieces of crab meat but it was not hot in temperature so I had to stir up the contents to eat the warm broth on the bottom. What the soup lacked in warmth was substituted by the "spice" temperature and this gave it enough of a kick to require drinking lots of cold liquid. My husband had the Mama's lobster roll with fries. The roll was filled with large tasty chunks of lobster meat. The only problem was that the lobster was swimming in mayo and i'd say it was drowning. My husband ate every piece of that sandwich along with the house fries and liked it. My brother- in- law had the soft crab platter with two medium soft crabs that were plump with lump crab meat. He liked that and the fried green tomatoes that accompanied the crabs. He ate it all including the tasteless cole slaw that my sister-in-law did not like. My sister- in-law had the rack of ribs with fries and slaw. She said the ribs were good, but the sauce had a strong tomato taste and the side of slaw was tasteless. Last but not least I had the crab cake sandwich with fries. This was a nice portion however, the crab cake was oily leaving a greasy spot on my lettuce and roll which I did not eat because of the oil leak. In previous reviews I tell my readers I am not an oiler. If you are, you will like this cake. It did not taste bad but it also did not taste good. It was fair at best based on my decades of crab cake consumption. You can't fool Java Mama. We all decided that while the meal was not bad, it also was just ordinary fare from the Mama's kitchen. I know other Yelpers said that the crab cake was good and so was the crab soup, but I would disagree. This is a solid three star eatery and that's my opinion. Go there and taste for yourself to see if my review is on target. The first floor has a large busy bar and a few cramped tables. The restrooms are located in the back of the bar so I had to play bumper car through the patrons when going to the ladies' room. This is a nice clean restroom, and well stocked . There is a private stall for each visitor. This is definitely a fiver and rates higher than the food. read more

3.5, if yelp allowed. Very pleasant brunch! The seafood omelette was very delicious! 3 eggs, crab, shrimp, all held together by melted gouda cheese. I typically finish everything that's on my plate, but this was an omelette for two. The crab cake was tasty, but I wouldn't order that again. The Maryland Crab soup had pieces of crab legs jutting out of the soup bowl. The flavor was smooth, tasty. I'd go back again. read more

I came here for lunch based on the wonderful Yelp reviews and recommendations from some local businesses. Sadly it was not what I expected and the food did not wow me. First off, it was really confusing coming into the restaurant because nobody greeted us and we had no idea where to go. Finally the waitress/hostess saw we were standing there while she was chatting with other people and came over. She told us to go upstairs and when we got upstairs there was no one there to seat us as well. Finally the waiter poked his head out of the kitchen and asked us to take a seat. Apparently he was the only one working the entire upstairs. It took awhile to get drinks and our orders in. Our salad was average and our sandwich came with cold fries. Nothing was spectacular. I paid extra for some bread and it was hard and not really warm. We did have some oysters too. For 2 people our tab for lunch came out to around $55 without any drinks. That's really expensive for lunch I think for oysters, salad and sandwich, which we split. The kitchen was nice to split out meal for us. read more

This is probably one of my "go to" Baltimore spots for visiting family and friends. I have never had anything bad here ever. I have been here for brunch / dinner about half a dozen times and every time it was exceptional and fairly priced. The only caveat is that they do not take reservations, so every time you will wait. For brunch we left our number and went over to Firehouse coffee and waited there for half an hour, and for dinner we just got drinks so it wasn't a huge deal, though it does get crowded, so reservations would be nice. read more
