There are 36 stairs from the street into our home and no chance we could carry them up the stairs ourselves. We hired these guys after getting some quotes from several other companies. We even got an in-home estimate from "You Move Me" which came out to over $1200. Johnny The Mover moved us for $469 TOTAL! This was perfect for what we needed. We did not have big or expensive furniture nor did we ask them to pack anything for us or assemble anything. But to move a few pieces of furniture and a lot of boxes, these guys were no-nonsense and they got the job done fast and they did it cheap. We had a reservation for Saturday at 1pm for a move within our same housing location. Around 1:29 on the day of our move, my husband calls and is told Movers are running late that previous move took longer than expected and that they should be in our area around 2pm. 2pm comes and goes still no phone call. Finally at 2:45 hubs calls again. We then receive a call back saying Movers are tired from other moves and they will come tomorrow instead. I'm 6 months pregnant and husband and I had already moved all items except heavy items and bulky furniture. We started our move at 7am so are dead tired and have more than half our place in the new apartment. Waiting until tomorrow is not an option. We were moving from a second floor unit to a first floor refurbished unit in the same complex. The buildings were next to each other maybe 60 feet apart or so. Not a crazy move at all since it required no truck loading, unloading, or driving. Husband explains I'm pregnant and we are already half moved out, so tomorrow won't work and to please send Movers for at least the heavy items. Movers arrive about 30 mins later and stay for 40 minutes tops ; just moving out our heavy furniture items: one queen bed and mattress with headboard, table, couch, dresser, small desk, living room center table. After the movers move these items they leave, I go into our old apartment unit and notice serval items that still need to be moved(painting, large packs of Costco water bottles, a floor lamp, our desktop computer . My husband explains that he told the movers to focus on the heavy items since they were tired; even though we reserved and paid for 2 full hours of moving! I cannot imagine what would've happened to someone who needed to be out of their apartment by a certain day/time; this company would have ruined your plans. I won't be using this company again or recommending them to any colleagues or friends . While the movers were not rude to me, nor did they break any of our items in the move, they do not keep reservations and we had to call them to remind them about us. When you're moving you need a company that is reliable. Plus, we paid for 2 hours of work for movers that left after about 40 mins. My husband and I stayed moving the other items for about an hour and a half after the movers left. Being six months pregnant I couldn't help my husband out that much and felt really bad that he had to do most of the move alone. At the end of the day he looked at his smart watch and it said he did over 33k steps and 64 flights of stairs! All this and we paid for movers. I don't recommend this company, look elsewhere. read more

Johnny The Mover is great! They don't charge extra for stairs, taking apart my bed and reassembling it or travel time like a lot of other movers quoted me. The hourly rate was about the same, but for 3 guys instead of 2 with other companies. When I booked on the phone, I was told to expect a confirmation call on monday and if I wanted to cancel, there would be no charge, as long as it was made by monday. I did receive a confirmation call as promised. On moving day (today), they were scheduled to come at 9am. I was about to run out to the ATM to get cash to tip the guys about 20 to 9 and they had just arrived. EARLY yay! They moved everything so quickly and into the new place. I love that they took their shoes off at the new place. I had a bunch of old towels and sheets to lay on the carpet so they didn't need to keep taking off and putting on their shoes and they were very appreciative for that. I had labeled most of the boxes in hopes that they'd place things where I wanted them placed and they did. They also asked where I wanted everything that wasn't labeled. They even gladly removed three furniture pieces from the new place that I wanted to put o the curb. My entire move including travel time took 2 and a half hours, less than what was estimated to me over the phone. I had a LOT of stuff moved, including my entire business and all the goods and supplies that comes with running a business. I would, without a doubt, hire Johnny The Mover again. John, Ati and (I didn't get the 3rd guy's name) were great-super polite and kind of reserved, or maybe that was their way of being professional. I'm a super happy customer. Thanks guys! read more

One of very few five star ratings. I only give five stars for a company or service when I can find absolutely nothing to complain about. Rare! My husband and I attempted to move alone, against my better judgement. After struggling to get our sectional, elliptical, heavy dresser, desk and bed with frames down 16 stairs and up 3 flights, we tapped out. We decided to hire help for what was left. Heavy crates, about six 55 gallon bags of clothes and shoes etc... it wasn't much but too much! Everyone we called wanted a 2 hr minimum. But Johnny offered us 3 Guys with a truck for $160 an hour. We knew it wouldn't take that long. When they arrived, due to some unforeseen circumstances, they had Two huge trucks and 6 guys ready to help. When the saw what I had left it was like a wind came through and moved that stuff. They were funny, professional and Kona was awesome. Needless to say they moved everything in 45 mins! I have used Johnny The Mover 2x. I obtained quotes from multiple movers and they were the most reasonably priced (lots of places charge from the time they leave their company to the time they get back, but Johnny The Mover does not). Each time they were always very efficient and friendly. They sent 3 guys to help me move 3 bulky items and also allowed me to add my TV (which they wrapped in a cloth) and other misc items. They disassemble, wrap, and reassemble. Everything was done in about 2 hours. I would use them again and also recommend to family/friends! read more

I called for a quote & dispatcher Marcus was courteous & professional & gave me the information. Their rates are reasonable & I hired them. Marcus, Issac & Ryan arrived exactly on time & were friendly & hard-working. We had a lot of items that needed to be shrink wrapped along with furniture & odds& ends. It was a 7 hour move & I know the guys were exhausted but they kept going & helped us get everything in 1 trip. They were careful not to dirty the floors & the new rugs in the new place. They told me that they'd be here between 1 pm - 3 pm. I've been waiting over 2 hours now with my son. If you have a kid, you know how difficult it is to make them wait. I tried calling them, but it's going straight to voicemail, I think they're ignoring my calls. They haven't even called to update me on what time they're expected to be here or what's going on. I've hired and recommended Johnny the movers many times! A couple days ago they helped me move from a huge house - up on steep driveway and stairs equivalent to a 3 story walk up. They ran a little late - so they made sure to call to apologize and let me know they would be there 15-20 min late - no biggie. I wasn't ready anyway! Hired Johnny the Mover for transporting equipment for a large event. Asked them to assemble some things too, they were super easy to work with and didn't have any issues with our odd request to assemble equipment. They're paid by the hour and they work efficiently. Worked well with Kona, Kainoa and Keanu. The dispatcher had some issues with email attachments with our pickup schedule but it's all good. Good company. Would hire them again. read more

As soon as they came, they complained about it being a possibly big job and was disappointed that someone wasn't sent ahead of them to find out how big the job was. The good thing is they disassembled and reassembled the bed. It disturbs me that they nearly forgot a piece (if I haven't picked it up). They lost an entire container of video games with a Nintendo DS lite, which was either stolen or they are absolutely irresponsible. Moving was stressful enough without losing stuff on the way out. They ended up breaking an item of mine and was told that because it was two years old I wouldn't get paid back for the full price I paid for it due to depreciation. There is no way to sugar-coat it, "Moving SUCKS." When we were scheduled to move from a condo in Kaka'ako to a home on a narrow street in Kamehameha, I knew I needed to hire movers. Moving in with friends several years back was stressful, I swore I would never do it again. So thanks to my favorite website for restaurants, hair stylist, contractors, and movers.....I turned to Yelp to request a quote from several moving companies. Luke from Malama Moving Co. dba Johnny The Mover responded to my request for a quote online very quickly quoting me at $120/hour for two movers, with a two hour minimum. They were available the day I was planning to move, which would allow me to plan the dreaded process of packing boxes, disassembling furniture, etc After receiving quotes from three of four companies with reputable Yelp reviews, Johnny The Mover was my choice thanks to excellent reviews by Yelp Queen Emi Hart, as well as that they didn't charge for driving to my place nor hidden charges. I really liked their straightforward pricing of $120/hour (2 guys) with the clock starting when they arrive at your location. On the day of the moving, three guys showed up. Al, the Foreman, with two other guys. In the end, having three movers helped as I had a lot of things. They did a great job wrapping the furniture I did not wrap (I had previously bought plastic shrink wrap and wrapped some items); however, for a pre-arranged $20 charge, they would shrink wrap all my items. This was great as it provided some extra grip for furniture (and somewhat of a protection). My movers were Al, Isaac, and Kalei. It was a really hot and humid day so I had the AC at my apartment and the new house on at full blast to try to make them feel comfortable. The house I moved to is older with three levels, so I give them credit for navigating steep stairs with as good as good be. I did have a couple items damaged, which I am not thrilled with but with tight corners, I expected. My only complaint is that the truck they used did not have a lift so I feel like they used extra time to load and unload my items, when if there was a lift, it would have decreased the time. In the end, the total move was four hours at $140/hour. Having the extra guy for $20/hour was totally worth it. Would recommend anyone moving to spend the $140/hour for three guys -over- the $120/hour for two guys. read more

Mover Kona and Kainoa are two heros! The dispatcher called that they will be 2 hours late because of short of staff, I was reluctant to agree due to conflict with other jobs already scheduled. There are no words to express: 1. How much I hate moving 2. How great these movers are! When our company lost its lease, we had to scramble to pack up two offices plus a (packed to the ceiling-high) storage room and not-so-merrily move along our way. Moving is a pain. No, moving is a nightmare! And when I contemplated finding volunteer manpower to help us, I knew I wouldn't be able to find anyone reliable enough (or potentially strong enough) to haul our desks, industrial shelving, filing cabinets, books, and did I mention a storage room with boxes stacked to the ceiling?! I asked around first, to other companies that had relocated, and heard a moving horror story about movers not showing up. Given that we had a date that we had to be outta there, I had no backup plan (or tolerance) for movers that would fall through. So I turned to Yelp and called Johnny the Mover. He said moving our offices would be no problem, and quoted me 4 guys, for 4 hours. Being the suspicious and cynical consumer I am, I pressed him on whether that many guys would be necessary--turns out, it *totally* was. He reassured me and cheerfully penciled me into the schedule, and I tried to tuck away my worst-case no-show worries. This story is an example of why worry isn't necessary. He not only called to follow up the day prior, he also called to reconfirm the morning of their arrival. Then these guys promptly rolled up in their truck, right on time for the move. They got straight to work, and MAN, do they work! I was re-packing one last box in my office and in the time it took to put everything inside and re-tape it, I turned around and they had carted away 20-odd other boxes. Houdini magic, I tell you! What would have taken me (and an army of unpaid volunteers) an entire day to efficiently pack in a truck, took these guys an hour and a half. BOOM! I thought. "Let's shave some time off this move!" They carefully drove to the site of our move-in and got straight to work. Now let me pause to mention our new office was located on the second floor of a walk-up... no elevator available. This is where the hard labor really began, and my deepest sympathies for their sweatiness extended. Nonetheless, they were courteous, professional, funny, and followed all instructions completely. AND, they finished almost exactly to the minute - 4 guys and 4 hours. Turns out they know what they're doing. They broke a floor lamp in the move, but to be fair, it was cheap quality and they apologized for it. That's the worst I can say, which isn't that bad at all. I've already handed out their card to another company looking to move, and I would highly recommend these guys to anyone. They're moving magicians, and all-around nice (strong) guys. Mike and AVERY from Johnny the Mover are AWESOME !!! We rent in a condo building and our unit was sold by the owner. Luckily we we able to find another, bigger unit higher up in the building for less money. Yay ! But we had to move on very short notice. Boo! We have used Johnny the Mover perviously and were happy with their services so we gave them a call. Their dispatcher gave us a choice of days and times, which was very helpful. We wanted to get done early in the day so we asked for 8:00AM. MIKE and AVERY arrived promptly at 8:00. The first thing the did before coming inside was to remove their shoes. The took a quick look around and asked us where we wanted to start. They wrapped plastic around the stuff with drawers and treated everything with respect. They finished moving us in about two hours without any problems. Throughout the move they were courteous and careful. We have moved many times here and on the mainland and have never found a mover as good as Johnny the Mover. Quality service at an affordable price. They tell you up front what the move will cost and they don't try to add any charges while the move is in progress. They deserve a 10 star rating **********. read more
