I don't understand the one star negative reviews posted here. I have been a regular customer of this business for many years. All I can say is that I have never received more personalized service from any business! The proprietor has always been friendly and professional with every customer I have seen being helped in his store. On many occasions he has stayed open past his closing time when I have called to say I was on my way to pick up my mail. He will watch for packages that are important and call me to notify me of their arrival. He lets me know ahead of time of any changes in store hours. I have observed that many of his customers treat him as a trusted friend. I have been in his store at all hours and maybe 100 times and have never observed anything but pleasant and efficient transactions. I have recently closed my postal box there and actually miss visiting this business. I can understand how some people are attuned to corporate branding and clinical sterility in businesses. This is a one person operation in the style of the proprietor, i.e. lots of pink balloons for Valentines Day mixed with Sikh Indian music. In the upscale block in front of the Claremont Hotel/Berkeley Tennis Club, Peets Coffee, and pricy boutiques, it is refreshing to find a business that is about convenience and service. I would hate to see this old style small business fail because of intolerance and vitriol. I too have to ask why all of the positive reviews have been screened out and only the "haters" featured. The nicest most professional shipping service I have ever experienced! I came to drop off some prepaid UPS and Fed Ex boxes, the sales person just helped me get the box ready and gave me clear envelope for the label. How thoughtful, I didn't even ask! We frequent this store for shipping, stamps, the occasion card and notary services, and I simply cannot understand the other comments here. The proprietor is unfailingly helpful, fair and professional, which is much more than I can say for the local UPS store. If my package needs a bit more tape, he simply tapes it up for me, instead of making me buy a new roll, e.g., UPS. I am curious to see whether this review even makes it to the store's page, as the other two great reviews have both been "filtered", leaving only negative reviews behind. read more

The Indian guy behind the counter is a total jerk and I'm pretty sure he owns the place. Rude, impatient, pretentious, and overbearing. A friend of mine rents a mailbox there and asked me to go in and pickup his mail because he was super busy and it had been piling up. He has different people pickup his mail from time to time including me, his sister, etc.. It has never been a problem until one day last week: The dude working there lost his mind when he saw me come in and open up the mailbox. He jumped in front of me and literally blocked me from accessing the mail. He yelled that I had no right going into the box because I wasn't the registered renter. I told him I'd been there before and I knew he recognized me so it made it even more strange. I also reminded him that there's only one key for the box, it can't be copied, and that why would anyone go to the trouble to steal somebodies bills? Seriously, I'm all for mom and pop businesses but they should boot this joker and open up one of those UPS stores! read more

I sent a book there book rate for 7.80 which seemed like a lot. First he told me the book weighed more than it did. Then with the correct weight he said they charge only a dollar more than the post office. Because he seemed a bit slimy, I looked up the post office rate when I got home which was 5$ less than he charged. Annoyed, I called him back about this, and he was rude and defensive. The money didn't matter but his defensiveness and lack of integrity and honesty did. read more

Totally incompetent in taking passport photos. My eyes were almost closed but he refused to retake the photos and insisted that they would be accepted by Homeland Security. After discussing for more than 5mins, he agreed to take new photos. They look terrible as well (but at least with eyes open). Super unfriendly guy. Go elsewhere for quality and service! read more

Wasted unnecessary time this morning looking for parking, emptying out my change to pay for it, etc., only to find that this place had changed their hours and wasn't open yet. I don't understand how a business in this day and age chooses to change their hours without updating their profile on yelp or google, or how a Fedex dropoff location doesn't update their hours on the Fedex website. Today I came to have two documents notarized. The owner made a big deal of saying there were two documents. I said, right, because you have to charge for each? He said" you accuse me of taking your money, you go somewhere else!!" I said, "I'm not accusing you, you are assuming that is my intention, I'm just confirming that's why you are telling me there are two documents." He said "No! You accuse me." So, he's a weird guy and the place is a shambles. With customer service like that I can't figure out how he can stay open. read more

The Monclair district of Oakland has a problem with the theft of mail and packages from homes. The solution for us was this conveniently located mail center. Beware of being cheated in this place!!!! I tried to send a fedex package using the recipient's account number & this surly old owner of the store tells me that I can only charge the freight to that account number if I am sending the package via air delivery (to So Cal from Berkeley!!); if I want to send it via ground shipping, then he wants me to pay case rather than use the recipient's account number. This was clearly a ploy to get me to use the more expensive option. I asked him several times about the cost for each shipping option--ground, one-day air, two-day air, etc. The man never answered any of those questions & insisted that I fill out all the shipping forms before he could answer any question. I left the store and took the same package to another fedex store on College Ave (about 10 blocks away) & had no problems with sending it via ground shipping using the recipient's account number. Got courteous service and got straight answers to all my questions. I'll never use the store on Domingo St again!!! Just checked the other yelp profiles for this place -- all very negative. read more

The service is slow, and the owner seems gruff at first, but he is extremely helpful and thorough. He'll take the time to find you the best rate, and despite the somewhat scattered appearance of the store, he is quite organized. I've seen him pull up shipping records for past customers. read more

Incredible service with attention to detail that goes above and beyond. We shipped several heavy large boxes containing expensive glassware. The owner repacked each and every item, wrapping each piece in additional protective wrap. All arrived undamaged. Incredible. I came in recently during their grand re-opening since they are under new ownership. The new owner and employees seem to be very kind and helpful. It definitely helped that they had coffee and donuts for the re-opening!! I had a chance to talk to talk to the owner about changes he's making in the store and I think he's going to make great changes! I had come to this location a few times under the old management and thought the prices were kind of unfair but now the prices are much more fair and competitive. This place has the worst service of any institution I've been at at Berkeley. I came by to see if they had balloons and they were selling 12 normal balloons for a total of $5.55. I had no idea it was going to be this expensive and when I immediately asked for a refund, the man 1) suggested I just buy one balloon at the price of $1; 2) asked to hold my credit card while I went home to get cash for it; 3) Finally charged me a total of %17 from the entire purchase because that's how much he would have apparently lost in the transaction of giving me a return. I got absolutely nothing out of the transaction except a lot of disrespect, frustration, and a few measly cents lost that apparently his business couldn't compensate for. I go to Kuldip's store for shipping, stamps and office supplies and he is always lovely and helpful. If he feels my package is not taped securely, he adds more, no charge. He gives my kids free pencils or notepads whenever they come in. Only missing the fifth star because I wish he had more office supplies to stock up on. read more

Went there to get something notarized, it was slightly technical we asked for an acknowledgement and he gave us a jurat, but really as the notary who did it correctly said, " He needs to go bac to notary school." I wanted to send a 2 lb box to New Jersey by the cheapest way possible. He quoted $14 to send the package via USPS parcel post and couldn't find anything else that was cheaper. Do not use for passport photos. The owner uses an outdated Polaroid camera that produces underdeveloped, color-washed photographs that are unacceptable in quality. Mr. Bhatia refused to refund my money when I returned to the shop with my undeveloped Polaroid photos and even refused to acknowledge there was a problem with them, despite the photographs being obviously underdeveloped. His attitude was condescending, rude, and dismissive ("I do this every day, the photograph is fine, go away"). Overall, a terrible experience. Don't waste your time or money here. read more

I have had a mail box here for years. The new owners have made a huge, positive difference. Everything is clean and organized and they have even reduced the prices. I also just asked them to pack and ship my grandmother's fine china set to my niece in Brooklyn. The total price was far lower than any estimate I had gotten before; they picked it up and packed it rapidly; and, most important, the china arrived with only one minor break in the handle of one tea cup. Given the many odd shaped, bulky pieces and the delicate bone china that's phenomenal. read more

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE, STAY AWAY! I joined Yelp today just so I could write this review and warn others that this place and its owner are extremely unprofessional at the least. A couple of weeks ago I head a really negative experience with the owner, who pulled a major bait and switch on me. I asked to ship a very small package USPS. I was returning an eBay purchase and was aware of the original shipping price being around $7 to ship a small box. The owner started printing labels, weighed it and then told me it would cost $22 to ship it. Throughout the process I kept asking him what the total might be. When I learned he was shipping UPS I corrected him, saying that I told him I wanted to ship USPS and that the total should be much lower. He then seemed very pissed off, said eBay shippers receive special shipping prices (to my knowledge they don't), told me the package weighed 1 pound (when it weighted 8 oz), and then tried to convince me to use UPS instead. This did not seem like a simple misunderstanding, but more like someone really trying to intentionally scam me. Fast forward to a couple of days ago. I was in a bind and needed to drop off some FedEx packages in a hurry, and after swearing I would not go back to this place, decided to try this place one more time. As I was bringing in several packages the owner comes out and starts telling me how he does not make money on FedEx drop offs and only does it for to make customers happy. I noticed that on one of the FedEx labels, I had placed the address in the wrong line and mentioned I would go get a new label and be back in a second (label was in my car near by); The owner tells me to take the (heavy) box with me and tells me not to come back at all, then starts insulting me telling me I seem confused. The whole time I just cannot believe what is happening, I was not rude to this guy in the least, nor did I greatly inconvenience him in any way whatsoever. The owner should seriously think about how he treats his customers, as he just lost a potential repeat customer and he will certainly lose others if he continues acting this way. My recommendation is STAY AWAY! read more
