[The Store] It's a modestly sized shop stocked with envelopes and other packaging materials. It's the perfect place to mail out items and the perfect place to go to if you need help/have questions. [The Service] The man working was super nice and helpful. I'm a very inexperienced letter sender and for some reason the envelopes that I had from my commencement invitations didn't have the adhesive seal on them. The kind gentleman graciously let me use his gluestick (for free) and he weighed my envelopes for me and had them mailed out this afternoon. I've been to other post offices and none of them compare to the kind and efficient service that this place offers. I came in to mail my absentee ballot within a week before the deadline because I procrastinated. I get to the counter, dude says I need to ship it express. I don't have enough cash for that. I say I'll go to the ATM nearby and come back. And instead of saying go ahead, he lets me pay him back the NEXT day. And when I come back, he remembers me. Who does that? The Indian guy who works here is just flipping amazing, efficient, and generous! I've come here twice to ship off each package, and I'm just impressed by how quickly he gets things done! My first time here was when I had to ship off a package. I simply brought my package to here, and then he told me, "Okay, that's all you need to do!" Then, I came here this morning to ship my textbook rentals back to Amazon. I had put my books inside a box that I reused, along with my packing slip, and then took the untaped box and the mailing label to here. I expected to pay a fee to tape up the box and affix the mailing label, and perhaps some postal stamp too, but when I handed him my box, he told me, "Don't worry, I'll do the taping! I'm giving PostalAnnex five stars because of their customer service in-person and over the phone! I initially called to find out information on PostalAnnex's services, and that is when I first talked to Nash Bhakta. He was very informative and professional. We made an appointment for Nash to come to my on-campus building to serve as a notary. He showed up on-time and with a smile. Ten minutes later everything was signed and notarized. Then, I needed to send the documents via FedEx, so I went with Nash to PostalAnnex's office near Cheese 'n Stuff. Again, they were very helpful. This PostalAnnex+ was recommended by a friend after I asked about notaries in the area. My notarization was fast and efficient; it set me back $10, which seemed completely reasonable. After I got back to my email, I found that there was another document that needed notarization; this one needed to be FedEx'ed back to the East Coast as well. I returned to PA+ the next morning and had another efficient (and friendly) experience. Because I reported that I had been by the previous day, I was given a $2 "loyalty discount" that I hadn't asked for. Great! PA+ is more or less adjacent to SoDoI Coffee Tasting House, which looks weird and mysterious each time that I walk by it. I hadn't been in this Durant--Channing passage for years; it's clear that I ought to return periodically. PostalAnnex+ provides an excellent excuse for visiting the passage. The next time I'm here, I'll try SoDoI as well. I had two excellent sessions as a PA+ customer and will definitely return when the need arises. Five stars! read more

Very expensive place for shipping. I hate to write this, because the people here are quite nice. But their mark up is very steep. Last time I sent something via USPS and their rate was more than 20% higher than the quote I got later on USPS's website. Just from eyeballing, their UPS and FedEx rates are also pretty inflated. I won't ship things through them again. There are online options that offer good discounts and don't require a subscription. They're worth it, even though I don't ship things regularly. read more

Are you tired of growing a Rip Van Winkle beard every time you have to wait in line at the post office? I sure am, and with Postal Annex nearby, I am never ever going to the USPS office again! Every time I went to USPS, I hit a broken stamp vending machine or a long line --- at Postal Annex, the competent staff are so helpful as to almost be psychic. In the course of two days and two trips to the PA, I had the following interactions with the wonderful guy who works there: Me: I'd like some stamps, please (pick out stamp design and quantity). PA guy: Will that be all for you today? Me: Yep, that'll do it. PAG: Nothing to send with these stamps? Me: Nope, that's it. Oh, wait, yes... I have this letter to send. Errr; thanks a lot! (Feeling very stupid.) Day Two: Me: Hi again. I'd like to fax this, please. PAG: Alrighty. Do you have the fax number for this? Me: (Closing eyes to retain composure as all human dignity slips into puddle at feet) Uh. (Stupid, stupid, stupid!!!) PAG: Ah, here it is (noting fax number on the letterhead of the paper I'm trying to fax --- duh). I'll get this right going for you. Me: Good lord, you're amazing. Thank you, thank you. PAG: Oh, you know, it's called "customer service." We like that here. (Smiles, doesn't make me feel dumb although I obviously AM, I love him, end of story.) You go, Postal Annex! They do value customer service! Since my building doesn't directly accept packages other than those shipped via USPS, all other carriers deliver packages here. The guys working here are friendly. They usually give me a call when I have a package ready even before I read the UPS note on my door. Price to Pick Up a Package: around $2 each, but from what I remember, they do charge $2.50 now per package. Bigger packages are more expensive than smaller/regular sized ones. TC Residents, picking up multiple packages DOES ADD UP. They charge you the fee per package. Letters are mailed for free (granted you already have a stamp on them, and they are ready to go). Pick up is 3pm. Mailing Services: A 1/2 pound package to VA was around $5. They'd also be happy to charge you the remaining fee if the # of stamps you've attached isn't enough instead of you wasting a whole stamp. They charged me $0.25 instead of putting another $0.41 worth stamp on the item. Location: Under the Channing Parking Structure and right next to University Copy. It's only across the street. Super convenient. The hours are okay. Go before 6pm M-F and before 4pm on Saturdays! read more

I have been going here for at least 25 years and it hasn't really changed. I like that! They are like a post office but with comparison shopping so you can get the best deal for shipping whatever it is to wherever. Some services go by size, others by weight. And of course you can use the USPS which I prefer for many things. Just as much as I like the unchanging nature of the big Berkeley Post Office in downtown and all of it's old world wooden charm, I like the Postal Annex+. I liked the women who used to run the place back in the day and, even though they are gone, the guy they hired is still there behind the counter giving the same great service. They have a decent selection of cards and tape and that sort of thing. I bought a great fridge magnet that had a pic of a dog and said some days I just want to piss on everything. Best of all, you don't have to throw away the packaging in the boxes you receive because they take peanuts for recycling!!!! I don't need a fancy shop with fancy displays and a lame attempt to be hip. A basic no nonsense shipping shop with competent staff is perfect. read more

Almost bought a book of stamps until I realized they were trying to charge more than the stamps were worth ($11 for an $8.80 set of 20 stamps). Shop around before paying up. I shipped a package with PostalAnnex+ today for the first time and they were wonderful! Friendly, thorough, helpful, and fast! They helped me assess whether UPS, FedEx or USPS would be the most affordable option to get a package to Massachusetts in four business days, and made sure to ask me whether I wanted tracking, insurance, and/or a signature upon delivery. They let me know that I could get $100 insurance coverage for free, and made sure I knew that my tracking number would be on my receipt. They typed in all of the address information in front of me so I could see the screen and make sure it was correct. All this and I was in and out in five minutes! Not always the best price -- but you're really paying for convenience here, and it's not even that high of a markup! You can either go to the USPS office a block away and risk a 45-min wait and chaotically high levels of inefficiency, or you can come here where there is literally no wait and take your time perusing your options in a quieter, calmer environment. Every time I've gone in it's always the same two dudes working here, and they've been nothing but polite and friendly. They take time to explain your options, whether it's differences in prices between tracking options or which kind of bubble wrap is best for what I'm sending. Something I think really adds to their personal, considerate vibe is the fact that even if I'm mailing a letter or something, they'll pause and make sure that all my information is up to date. At first I found it annoying but now I think it's awesome -- they know who I am and have a directory of all the addresses I've sent things to. It makes shipping stuff WAY easier. read more

the first time i went here was to mail a box. they charged me $1 for a tiny 4-inch piece of packing tape to close up said box. the second time i went here (only by default and in silent protest) was to mail a package to la. the woman weighed it, looked at me, looked back at the scale and said, "eleven eighty-three." no express, no overnight, no insurance, no confirmation. i walked out. the u.s. post office right down the street ended up charging me $5.45 to get the same package there in three days. oh, and this place has a $10 minimum for credit cards. its on the corner of channing and durant but its entrance is on the durant side. read more

I used to go to the USPS store that's a block away until I realized the Postal Annex is here. There's literally no one here so you don't have to wait at all. The man who works here is super nice and helpful, unlike USPS workers. Like the other reviewer said, it's a bit more expensive but it's totally worth it not having to deal with extremely rude staff and having absolutely no wait at all. To top it all off, he gave me a discount because the computer took about a minute to load. I didn't even think it was taking that long, but the man apologized and took some money off my shipment.
