Worst post office in Bay Area. Rude, sadistic postal workers at the counters, terrible customer service. Great location, though.

This is another US post office that will have one person behind the counter and 15 people in line…read more I honestly feel bad for that person, she's not responble for there only being one person and she has to deal with 15 angry people who have every right to be angry. The postal service raises the prices on everything, has a terrible service now and then complains that they're not getting support or that they're on their way out of business. Well, just walk into a one of their locations like this. You see why people hate going to the post office. On the plus side the lady was very nice and again, not her fault. It's management, they are the worst.

I never thought I would write a Yelp review about a post office, but here we are. I used to be a…read morebig fan of USPS. I even worked in the mail room in college and got pleasure out of making sure mail went to the right person. A little over two years ago, I moved into my current apartment. I noticed pretty quickly that the letter carrier would make frequent mistakes, often delivering mail meant for a neighboring building or even a different street. They also delivered mail for former tenants. I couldn't fault them for not knowing who has or has not moved away, so I tried putting a post-it with a note on my building's mail box. That did not help. I even tried circling the name of one mail recipient and specifically noted that he had died (which I learned from a simple Google search). Incredibly, the letter carrier ignored that as well. I have finally started Googling the companies that are sending this mail and calling them to let them know that the people they are trying to reach no longer live here (and may have passed away). One would think that after multiple requests followed by a series of complaints, USPS would find capable employees, but that has not happened: the deceased former tenant still receives mail here. Recently, a package that was sent to me was scanned as delivered, but it was not in my mailbox or on my doorstep. I strongly suspected it was delivered to the wrong building. After I made a complaint to USPS, they located the package and brought it here - a week later. Thankfully, it was neither perishable nor anything I needed urgently. Last month, I got home from work one day and opened my mail box to find mail that was wet and dirty. It had not rained that day; the mail must have been dropped in a puddle, and rather than drying it off, the letter carrier delivered it as is. Perhaps the most troubling instance, though, is from a year ago, when USPS failed to deliver my ballot for the general election. I had to vote in person on election day (which I was thankfully able to do). No one answers the phone at this USPS location, and when I visit in person to bring them all the misdelivered mail, I am told that they will talk to the letter carrier. It has become evident that they are just not interested in taking responsibility for their mistakes. The sheer incompetence of this USPS office is mind-boggling. It is remarkable how little attention to detail the postal employees at this office pay. How is this tolerated by USPS?

About this post office: -really small -- look at my picture. (But if you go at a good time, it won't be cramped, so that wouldn't even matter.) -I went around 3pm on a Tuesday and I only waited around ten minutes. Versus Downtown Berkeley post office, where I always had to wait more than 30 minutes FOR SURE. BUT...downtown Berkeley one is also bigger, and the employees seem nicer and happier too. And way more helpful. North Berkeley one too. So you gotta pick...customer service or speed? -they have two windows but only one was accepting packages..slowed things down a little. -the lady was only semi-helpful...she was pretty much just mostly impatient. But hey, it's a post office...that's usually the case. I like that this post office is so close to me and that there's a parking lot...but also that it's WAY less crowded than other Berkeley post offices. Yes, the atmosphere here is the dingiest in comparison to the North Berkeley and Downtown Berkeley ones, but it's also the fastest too (bc of the # of ppl, not the employee speed...) so that's good enough for me!

Falling apart. Unfriendly service. Full parking lot despite no customers being present. Exact…read morechange only. Go to Elmwood location instead unless your business is fully packed and ready to ship or you are paying with cc.

A short, leisurely five- minute stroll from UC Berkeley and, taking the more scenic route, a 30- minute walk from the Gourmet Ghetto, aka "the birthplace of California Cuisine," this is a fine place to see off your mail, domestic and abroad. I went in just yesterday morning and was immediately greeted by two courteous ladies behind the cash register who secured my mail, and returned a lovely receipt detailing critical facts of the transaction, a tracking number, and a link at the bottom sending customers over to a website with a one- minute anonymous survey for feedback. As they say, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Please feel free to email me with questions or concerns. Thank you for your time and consideration.

I used to frequent the larger Oakland location on Telegraph but finally got tired of dealing with the nightmare that place is. No parking, super long lines, and rude service. Yeah, no thanks. I'll stick to the wonderful staff in Elmwood! I love that they have a dedicated parking lot. You don't always see this in Berkeley, so it's definitely convenient. Sometimes it does get full but there's also several places to park out on the street. The lines can be hit or miss; sometimes there's no line and other times it can get pretty deep. But one thing's for sure; they keep that line movin' and groovin'. The lines usually move pretty fast. And the best part about this post office?! The customer service! They've consistently provided excellent service here. Even when the line is out the door, these folks are always cool, calm, and collected. The staff is so friendly, helpful, and polite. I never feel rushed and they're always willing to answer any questions that I may have about costs and services. I don't think that anyone gets excited to go to the post office these days, but it's always nice to have a pleasant experience when you have to.

I have to say that every single 1* review on here is 110% accurate and legitimate. Here's mine. As a grad student, you'd like to get the best deals on textbooks, yes? Take it from me - some of those books cost more than the classes themselves! So being the genius that I am, I figured I'd order some from Amazon at a slightly cheaper price, not by much, but every bit of savings help! So I had a class start on the 21st of January. I ordered the textbook on the 16th, using rush-delivery. The boneheads at Amazon thought it would be a great idea to use USPS to deliver, instead of their own. So as a Prime member, I have GUARANTEED 2-day shipping. I waited for my textbook on the 18th. All day. Didn't show up. On the 19th. On the 20th. Please note that I kept a constant vigil on the tracking website and EVERY day it was 'out for delivery'. Then past 8pm? 'Delivery attempt failed'. At times that I was out having a cigarette, knowing that no one ever came, and knowing that they either put it on the wrong truck, or were just lazy sons of wh*res. On the 21st, it didn't show up. I told my professor the issue, and he said that if he'd give me a free pass that day, since a lot of the other students didn't have their books either, but that I should try to get it by the next day. Please note that calling USPS either the PO, the Package station or the 1-800 number is a waste of time. So what did I have to do? Well, I bought the textbook that night. What do you think was waiting for me the next morning after class? Why, the textbook that I had ordered long ago! After sending the USPS a *nasty* letter about this, I gave the textbook to a fellow student. What makes this thing so damn unforgivable? I LIVE A BLOCK AWAY FROM THE PACKAGE CENTER!!! Yes! Yow! Sounds like many Yelpers had to deal with the Postmistress from Hell…read more There were only two clerks when I went in mid-afternoon on a weekday. The woman at the other station seemed pleasant enough but the fellow who waited on me was very patient, friendly and helpful. I had about 7 or 8 packages to mail from Media Mail to First Class to Priority Mail. One had a prepaid label and the others had stamps on them with my "guesstimate" in postage plus a post-it note with the total values of the stamps. The clerk that helped me was so happy that I had written out the stamps values on the packages. He smiled and thanked me for each package. Some were off by only a few cents while others had $3+ postage due on them. He congratulated me on the ones that I only missed by a few cents and for the others, "Yeah that one is heavier than it looks! " All in all a very pleasant experience. I know post offices in general are not usually known for good service, but today's experience for me was perfect. When I lived near one post office in Berkeley there were a couple of clerks there that were mean and ornery without any provocation. I sometimes would pass on my turn till I got one of the nice clerks. I have worked in public service for years and know the importance of being friendly which is not always easy when you have difficult customers. I hated those mean clerks who were nasty all the time and were never nice to you even when you were nice to them.
