Closed before 3 on Sat., 9/12/26. I worked for 2 hours to get 3 items ready before 3 pm. My car clock (via international clock ) said I had 4 min. when I parked a few doors down. My watch said 5 min. Another person and I walked up the steps at the same time. Door locked. She immediately left. I looked inside where they were still serving the last clients. Postal person came to door and unlocked to let someone out. I said it's not 3 yet and thought he was letting me in. He was not. He said they closed at 3. I said they closed before 3. I asked what clock they use. He said the clock on their screen. I said it doesn't match the international time clock then. He said he didn't know but that's the clock they use and this happens all the time. I asked how a person was supposed to make it on time if they don't use the standard clock. He shrugged. My rehetorical question: "If it happens all the time, why don't they check their clock against the international time clock?" Sounds like they have a problem. Additionally, although I realize that there will always be people trying make the deadline no matter what clock they use, since it was so close, why not be nice and let someone in? I did such things frequently for many years as a nurse. Sometimes circumstances didn't allow, but mostly people can do more than turn the key or drive off or walk away. It's a better world for all of us if we put ourselves out a little for one another. read more

This post office location is the worst I've ever experienced and here I thought going to this location compare to the two others I normally go to in Oakland would be a better experience. It's very clear that the postal worker (Joy) is the only one working and the line is 14 person deep? She disappeared for about 15-18 mins to attend to the postal truck that arrived. She let all of the customers waiting in line know that she had to attend to the postal truck that had incoming mail and packages that she had to scan and she will be back. This is insane! Joy got yelled at by one customer; she was trying to help everyone that has different needs and it was so stressful to watch. Do better USPS leadership and management teams, this is not acceptable to customers and your employee! I came around noon on a weekday to buy some stamps (they are also available to order online, but my order was canceled). The wait was about 50 minutes, with approximately 9 people in front of me in line. There was only one person working at the time and she was a true MVP. "Big Dog" was the name on the nametag of the angry man behind the counter. I asked for which shipping option would be safest, and he went on a rant about how no option is guaranteed, nothing is guaranteed in life, etc, etc. It was unprofessional, unhelpful, and annoying. I was patient and tried different ways to get the information I needed. He told me that there was guaranteed shipping, but that it was not actually guaranteed. That confused me. Eventually I realized I wasn't going to get the information I needed. I left and went to UPS. A nice, helpful man gave me their options clearly and concisely. It was nice not to be ranted at! I didn't realize how easy it is at UPS. They have my business from now on. read more

[ During Covid Review ] I have to say that this post office is always a hit or miss when you go. Sometimes there won't be a line, sometimes there is. But most of the time, you'll encounter a long line that goes out the door. This post office has signs that says that only 10 people are allowed in the store and if there is more than 10, please make a line outside. They do have markings on the floor to show where you have to stand to follow guidelines. The service here though is a hit or miss depending on who you get. Some of the employees here are rude and sometimes I wonder if they realize that. One time while waiting in line, a customer was accidentally standing infront of the door where the employees enter and rather than saying, "Hi, please move you are blocking the entrance way for us employees" this lady said, "You cannot be blocking the door. Move or i will hit you". Rude much? Another time when we noticed that there was more than 10 people inside, we waited in front of the door and therefore creating a line. This lady yelled at us for making a line outside the door yet there was a sign that said to do so. When we finally moved inside, another person was standing right where we were when we got yelled and the lady didn't yell at them. I just wish there was better service here, where no customer doesn't feel disrespected and employees were friendlier. read more

Friendly workers at the Albany US Post Office who made mailing a package to Hawai'i hassle-free and mail pick-up easy was the highlight of my visit, along with good prices and other friendly customers waiting in line. Typically when I put my mail on hold thru the USPS I sign up for the option of having the held mail delivered to my place. One time I decided to go with the in-person pick-up and chose this US Post Office as the location to pick up the mail, this would have been early 2019. There was a decently long line, though the others waiting in line were kind and friendly and I made delightful conversation with one of them. I was also trying to ship a package that day to Hawai'i which can be expensive and found a box the right size to send the package. Typically went I had sent gifts via postal/package service I had gone with UPS or FedEx so I was trying something new this time. The box was made of not very thick cardboard so my second biggest concern was the package making it to its destination intact. Turns out it made it just fine AND it cost me about $80 less than a package I sent through another service. Mail pick-up was a breeze. Make sure to pick up your mail in time (by the deadline) if you choose to have them hold the mail on-site. I brought an ID (my driver's license) to make it easier for them to verify my identity and find the mail by name. read more

Two and half weeks ago, I had an unfortunate interaction with one of the two employees behind the counter in this Post Office - I was seriously mistreated. I gave the associate behind the counter a letter to be send to Brazil - she put her hands up like I was putting some poisoned correspondence on the counter. She did not ask me how I want my letter to be delivered, she didn't weigh it. She looked at me dismissively pretending not to understand my instructions. I told her that she was being rude. She told me if I do not want to work with her, I could wait and go with another person. Being a foreigner in a post office is not a problem and you assume that the employees are used to many different accents. The most disturbing part of this incidence is that my letter never reached its destination! I am sure that it was trashed after I left. read more

After lunch w/ Nina today at Bowl'd, I came to this post office to mail a package overseas. I walked in and was surprised to find it empty. A woman whose name I didn't notice welcomed me and gave me a form to complete, directing me to the lobby in case more customers came in. She told me to come to the front of the line if one had formed in my absence. I took the form and filled it out. When I returned, the first woman had left, but Avery welcomed me. She was patient and showed a good sense of humor when I was forgetful, which I appreciated. She walked me through the process and made the transaction quick and easy, but also pleasant. read more

TThe worst. I remember when the post office was a place you didn't mind going to. It had the air of honor and utilitarian importance. I must be that old. Nowadays it's a place to go with an expectation of stress and frustration. This place is jank. The lobby is strewn with papers, you can't get a Priority label without standing in a chaotic line, and the employees frequently gaslight you by claiming that something unreal exists. Take for example pens that you are told to use to write your own label (because for some reason they can't type one out like over at the other shipping place across the street). Yes, postal worker. When 5 of your 6 pens don't work, that means your pens don't work because everyone who needs a pen is trying to use the same one. Stop playing semantic games with the customers. Holiday stamps? Nope. An automated machine for you to weigh and pay for shipping? Nope. I have the utmost respect for public employees who have to put up with abuse, since I am one myself. But this is a place to avoid if you can. read more

I have a love-hate relationship with the USPS. I have always liked my neighbourhood carriers, but really dread schlepping down to the Post Office itself to pick up a package or mail one out. We all have better things to do. The Albany Post Office is small and often times there are lines. The lines sometimes move fast. And when they don't, it usually involves a customer with "special needs" and not with the hardworking and competent USPS Staff. This might include a customer who is sending out many and/or overweight packages (registered of course). Or maybe it's a delivery mix-up or someone who wants to review every new stamp issue before he decides to buy. In any event, I have usually found that my fellow Albanians are patient and in reasonably good humour as we wait our turn. Post office staff have all pretty much been at this branch for awhile, and that familiarity also helps things along. And given a choice between, the Berkeley Main or the Berkeley Solano branches, I'd rather be here. read more

Why can't we get to our post office box after hours? This is crazy! We are new to the area and since we could tell people were going through our mail box at the house we decided to get a PO box. We went in on a Saturday to sign up for a box but were told online would be easier. So we went back home and signed up. Since there's a door to get to the service counter we assumed they would lock it during non business hours and we would still be able to check our box. We were wrong- and we found this out by walking to the post office and finding all doors locked at 6pm on a weekday. We checked their hours which are 9-5pm during the week, meaning only the days we work from home will we be able to check our mailbox or we will have to wait until Saturday. Would've been awesome to know we wouldn't have access before signing up for a whole year! The first time I went in on a Saturday to check for mail the line was fairly short, which was good since I needed to ask for a package that was delivered. I handed over the note that said to see the front desk for info and the guy walked into the back without a word. What seemed like 10 minutes passed and he came back asking if I needed stamps. I asked for post card stamps which normally they are at the desk- but again he left for a while to go into the back room. He really seemed like he was counting the minutes until the locked the doors. It was a totally different experience than any other post office and the 2 star rating made sense. read more

I don't exactly understand what is wrong with post offices, some move very quickly with many clerks attending the customers, while there are those who are super guilty of having super long lines because there is 1 clerk...2 max for about 30 people in line. Smart right? Maybe it's also the type of community they are serving also, I have noticed several post offices where lines don't move at all because all the clerks are busy helping the customers... that have 4 million questions each. This is one of them. Buddy I'm here to buy postage for my items and leave, I ain't trying to stay for the whole day because you're too incompetent to send a simple item, and having the clerk answer your many questions. I think its more about the community that sends items though, the clerks are usually pretty helpful, albeit they don't want to be there, and knows what to ask according to what I am sending. Maybe 8/10 times I have been there I have had to wait 20 minutes plus because some idiot playing 21 questions with the clerk just isn't enough. Ohhh. All things aside, its not the prettiest building, interior or exterior wise. I don't know why they painted it that color, and it's a bit ran down on the inside, but its fairly clean, trashcans available to those who need it, and supplies for those who need to purchase. So I can't give this post office the worst review ever or no stars, but I'm here to let everyone know, pray that there is no one in front of you, and if there is, that they know what they're doing. But hey that's what smartphones are for, you can play a game of Angry Birds, Draw Something, or respond to a Facebook message while you wait in the endless line, listening to the blabbering idiot that cant seem to realize there is 30 people behind him waiting to pay and get the hell out, while there is one clerk, attending to his ridiculous questions. read more

They have a big parking lot in the back so don't even try to find a parking spot on solano because it can be frustrating and a huge waste of time. This is not my nearest P.O. but I do go here often enough to have usually received friendly service even when they are busy. I don't know of any post office that doesn't have lines at one time or the other. There are a couple of Yelpers who "blame" the long lines on the "senile" Baby Boomers or other aged folks. Really? Some day you will be be slower and not necessarily when you are "older." Some people's slowness comes along quicker than their biological age. I noticed that a lot of Yelpers give places one stars because they don't like waiting their turn with or without rickety Baby Boomers slowing up the Universe. Hopefully if your transaction takes time the postal clerk will be kind and patient with you and help you. Simple solution for dealing with USPS. You can order stamps online or packing slips on line. Your mail carrier will pick up your package from your home or business. Or try developing a little patience and compassion. If waiting in line too long is your biggest problem in Life then be thankful. Whenever I go to any post office I bring a book or magazine to read while I wait. read more

This is what I wanted: $1.58 of postage. This is what I got: Nothing. Background: I use the USPS Shipping Assistant software. It is nice, prints nice labels and gives you discounts on delivery confirmation. But it doesn't actually print postage, it just prints how much you need. You have to apply stamps. Usually I go to the El Cerrito Station on Fairmount and they print me the postage I need. Today, I decided to try Albany since Fairmount was closed, I had hoped to use the Automated Postal Center (APS) and be in and out real quick. The first roadblock was an empty alcove in the wall where the APS machine is supposed to be. The second roadblock was the postal clerk. After waiting in the line of about 6 people, I get to the clerk. The conversation goes something like this: Me: I need $1.58 in postage for this Clerk: Do you want delivery confirmation? Me: That's already included. I just need $1.58 in postage. Clerk: At this point I am treating this just as a label. Me: It was printed with the USPS software. I just need $1.58 of postage. Clerk: I can not do that. Me: Can I get $1.58 in stamps? Clerk: I can not do that. At this point I took my envelope and left. I don't expect to every return. read more

Ordering things online is always a gamble, because it's possible that I'll have to deal with USPS. I've been ordering stickers, which come in very small packages, and would easily fit into my mailbox. Despite this, the USPS person in this neighborhood always leaves a pink slip in my mailbox instead of the package. I waited in line for 30 minutes the last time I came here. When I reached the front of the line, the employee handed me the tiniest package, and I asked why I had to bother picking it up. I requested that they just leave packages at my door from now on. She rolled her eyes and told me "no." That was it. Nothing else. Lo and behold, I googled "how to get usps to leave a package at your door." Apparently when you create an account with them, you can request that they always leave packages at the door. Why did she not tell me this? If my complaints annoyed her so much, why wouldn't she tell me this information, which could stop me from showing up to the store altogether? Rinky N (review right below mine) chastised customers for complaining about long wait times, and suggested that we be more "thankful" and "compassionate." This is not our job as customers. It's actually their job as a business to make customers happy. In fact, speaking up about poorly run systems, whether they be government systems or small businesses, is the core of progress. Progress does not happen when individuals are "compassionate" and "thankful" towards bureaucracies. read more

My experience last Saturday at the Albany post office was a prime example of bad management and poor customer service. When I arrived at 10 am, there were about 10 people in line, but only one clerk. During the next 30 minutes that I waited to get to the head of the line, about 30 more people showed up, so that there were 30 or more of us in line and still only one clerk. While the young woman at the counter was pleasant and unruffled, considering that there were so many of us waiting for service, she did not seem to speed up the process, offering postage stamps to each customer (I guess that's part of the script). finally when it was my turn and I asked for the least expensive way to ship my package, the clerk asked for the zipcode and while I looked for it on the label, she started pushing away my box and said to come back when I had the zipcode so that she could help the next customer. I had to read it to her because she wouldn't look at the label. She then proceeded to quote me the highest postage though I had asked for the lowest. The was the height of poor customer service that after waiting 30 minutes the clerk couldn't wait 5 or 10 seconds while the customer looked for the zipcode and the clerk didn't even try to help the customer locate it or read it. Plus, I could have avoided standing in line at all if the scale in the hall was working but it wasn't even turned on. These clerks need some customer service training!!!!!! read more

I went to this PO the last two Saturdays, and one weekday, to get a package mailed to my daughter in NY, which did not reach her. Terrible service each time. On both Saturdays there was one employee who needlessly disappeared into the back even though my concern had nothing to do with searching for anything or retrieving anything. I have no idea where he went. When I left there were at least 10 people in line waiting for the one employee. On the weekday my service person was totally indifferent to my needs and failed to help me choose the right size package or the correct insurance - his attitude was one of complete indifference. This place is grossly understaffed thus the lines are atrociously long. Not sure what 'Norma J F H' means in her review when she says she likes this PO and that the problem instead is patrons who've been trained to 'wrongly estimate workers in capitalism.' I've lived in capitalist and socialist countries, and when you have indifferent employees, or two few employees, the situation looks pretty much the same to me. read more

If you're looking for a fast, friendly post office with a stamp machine and/or a self-service machine, look elsewhere. The stamp machine hasn't worked since I've lived here and there is usually only one person working at any given time. Today I went (3:30pm on a Tuesday) and there were 3 people ahead of me. Of course every transaction was complicated. I just wanted a book of stamps. Friendly? Well, they're not exactly rude but they're not exactly friendly either. I guess I wouldn't be either if I was the only one working with a line out the door most of the time. Go elsewhere - you'll save yourself time and stress. This post office is tiny, understaffed and disorganized beyond belief. There are always piles of boxes everywhere. The only reason I go here is because it is walking distance from my house. Sometimes lines are short, but often they are out the door. Some of staff are pleasant and other are exceptionally rude. I've never had an altercation with the staff, but I've witnessed staff being absolute jerks to customers on numerous occasions. This week I went there to buy stamps.
