Stopping in to drop off an Amazon return, the honey and I found this UPS location to have great service. The associate at the front was quick, friendly, and taped the box up for us for a small fee. Called ahead to ask if they had postage stamps, before driving over in the rain during rush hour. Clerk answered and immediately out me on hold. I kept it on hold while driving 10 min over there. Walked in, the place was empty, and I saw the same clerk who answered my call, lounging about on his phone. He haphazardly sorted through a drawer where the stamps apparently are kept and without fully completing his search, said sorry we're out. I was carrying my phone, which was still on hold. Today, Sunday, July 13, 2025. I'm limping. Have an ankle replacement surgery tomorrow. Two working. One guy...and one girl. I'm limping into the store with a 4' x 4' x 6" box of medical equipment returning it. Not heavy, just awkward. I struggled getting it inside. I also had another box about 2 ft x 2ft x 4 inches. I drag it to the closest register. I get in line. I'm at the counter where a guy is helping a customer mail an overnight envelope for $56. Customer upset. They chat. Over to Goldilocks ladies register. She was chatting it up with somebody. I didn't even know it was a customer. She looks at me and says can I help you so I placed my smaller box on the platform. She then looks at me real snooty like and says I'm helping another customer now if you don't mind waiting. Excuse me, but you asked me if you could help me. Then, you tell me I'm being rude? It was at this point in time a raw sushi gut attack or an Alien Baby was about to bust out & was about to explode all over everyone. The guy said he was finished. Then I realized I had a Whole Food RMA not a UPS RMA. I explain I have to get to a restroom. Can I leave the package for 15 minutes until I get the right UPS RMA. Yes! So, for that kindness..2 stars. Efficient, friendly (OK, not gushingly friendly, but who needs that?) notary service, at a good price, was what I sought and got today. I asked the notary, David, to add another signature, this time next to the stamp telling reader of N'd doc to see next page for notarization. And he did, and he threw in a small stamp indicating who the signature was by. Tho the reader could have easily seen the strong similarity of it to the Acknowledgment Certificate's. read more

This is one opportunistic neighborhood store. Not all UPS locations are alike. This one takes every opportunity to charge its customers. Today, I returned an Amazon package that was supposed to be free drop off. The package required 6 inches of tape to be sealed and they charged me $2. It's the principle. When I complained that this is just not considerate customer service, the employee said that they have to make money somehow and that they don't make money on amazon returns. I call BS. read more

I don't know what's happened to this UPS Store. I've used their services for over 15 years. Recently I needed to drop of a priority mail letter with a label I printed and attached to the package. In the past I've been able to drop these off and I've also used their services for faxing documents and been a regular paying customer. This time the young person at the counter said I'd need to pay $2 without getting a receipt for him to accept the package. I questioned him about it and couldn't understand why I was being charged...he mumbled some answer which made no sense and I just decided to give him the cash. There was some undertone of attitude I also didn't appreciate. And why wouldn't I get a receipt? It's sad to me after relying on this business and supporting them for so many years to lose my trust in them. read more

Do not use this store if you are dropping off a pre-paid UPS package. They will not accept packages without weighing and issuing a receipt EVEN IF YOU DON'T WANT ONE. You must wait in line and may even get bumped back in line. Today I was behind a couple getting documents notarized. The generously offered for me to go ahead as i was just dropping off. The guy behind the desk said "No- Notary goes first" and i had to wait 8 minutes while they did their thing. Then he told me i was trying to cut. I've never had this issue or been treated this way at the El Cerrito or other Berkeley store. They are a franchise and seem only interested in 'paying customers' for packing, notary, etc. Go somewhere else. And let UPS know. read more

This merchant is price gouging. Friday, Nov. 3, my disabled wife came to this sore to send an overnight delivery letter via UPS - the counter person charged her $106.39. we checked the UPS website when she got home and they gave a range of $20-40 for the same service. My wife also purchased a roll of 100 stamps - "forever" postage is .66; so a 100 stamp roll at the post office would cost $66.00. The ups store charged us 97.50 - more than a 47% profit margin! I attempted to return the unused roll of stamps but the store manager would not agree to give credit upon return. costumers who use Montclair Village should steer clear of this merchant unless they are ok with unconscionable markup rates. read more

Love these guys during COVID. Countless Amazon returns with a single image and the item unpacked. They also ship out to usps. I came in one day w/ a label for usps and the item and was advised to go to the post office... I came back from post office as they indicated I was required to print something out also... Back up Solano to UPS store visit numero dos. This time I came prepared. I said to dude at the register, with manager looking guy looking on. "Can you guys just print this USPS label and ship it out?" They were like: "Oh ya. We can do that.." ‍ I said: "You guys need to get better at the upsell instead of wasting my time by sending me to usps.. Number one rule of sales.. sell me the pen dude.." It came out to 3.50 to avoid having to find a printer somewhere and then head back to usps. Mira of the story: you can do most anything you need for mail/shipping here but sometimes you might not get an employee that thinks outside of the box from a solutions standpoint. Regardless, the UPS store is highly adaptable to my various shipping/printing/email needs. Love this place and know how efficient its purpose serves. Yesterday I attempted to "donate" a large bag of the styrofoam packing peanuts to the UPS Store in the El Cerrito Plaza. When I walked in w/ it an employee looked at me regretfully and said they were no longer accepting them. She thought they took them at the UPS Store on Solano. Rather than go over to Solano, I went home and called this store to confirm that they accept them. The man I spoke w/ said they do, if they're clean and dry, so I determined to bring them over today, since I was tired and it was getting close to closing time for them. This morning I drove over and did a series of errands on Solano, working my way down from east to west. This UPS Store is where The Bone Room used to be. I walked in w/ my bag of styrofoam peanuts and was greeted by two friendly guys. I gave it to one and as I walked out they commented approvingly on my Warriors sweatshirt. It was a very pleasant experience and I was pleased to be able to divest myself of the packing materials that had accumulated over time so they could be put to use. read more

The workers here are beyond rude. Literally no care for customers or customer service what so ever. They pushed me and an elderly lady out of the store because they "felt like closing" - no type understanding or consideration. Only one employee here is nice and willing to help a customer. The rest of so so rude and super mean. I've never dealt with a store with such rude and inconsiderate workers. Very disrespectful and have no care for what their patrons may be dealing with. I've never experienced anything like it in my entire life. Beware, and go s there but here. They all wear masks and avoid eye contact so they feel ok with talking to you any type of way. They'd never do it face to face with eye contact. Wish I got their names as I'd recommend they get fired! I'll be coming back to make a complaint in person. UPS needs to do better! You probably want to take your AMAZON return items else where. On June 15th 2020, I returned a Makita XMT03Z 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Multi-Tool, in its original packaging. Clerk at the UPS store accepted the item, scanned the bar code on my phone, and I received a notification of a full refund very soon. On July 22, I received an email from Amazon reminding me to return the power tool. Then two hours later, received another email, claims "We are writing to let you know that we received a open bottle of cologne instead of the original item" So I called Amazon customer service, and filed a claim. read more

Went there for notary services. I was told my Advance Healthcare Directve was not a Power of Attorney by the notary there. Which is not true. It is a Power of Attorney. It says it right on the document. But he would not accept that. The notary also used ditto marks instead of filling in each entry in his journal. No finger print was taken for the Adv. Healhcare Power of Attorney, which violates CA state law. And ditto marks have not been legal for at least six years. All in all, deficient education and standards. If there was ever a business that deserved a zero star review it would be the The UPS Store on Solano Ave. I live nearby and went there for an amazon return. According to Amazon, I was just to take the product to a UPS facility and they would take care of the rest. No packaging necessary. Regardless, I brought a box anyway. This was in early February at the beginning of the Corona Virus outbreak. I really wanted to get in and out fast. The package I had was quite heavy and they asked me to tape it up. Due to the weight, it required quite a bit of tape. One of the dopes at the register made a rude comment saying "you'd better compensate us fairly for that tape." I felt like I was being threatened. That's really how he said it. They have donation jar and they asked me to put several dollars in it. Remember, this was a package they were supposed to take care of at least according to Amazon. I know at times you can't avoid going to a UPS store. Regardless, I would avoid this one. The owners and a few of the workers are real jerks and don't deserve your business. I want them to know I would have tipped them on my own had they said nothing. I gave them only a buck and now I regret even doing that! Hopefully, eventually they'll sell the store to someone who knows how to run a business as they are in a convenient location for me. read more

I've been to numerous Ups stores in the past and have never been charged a tapping fee to return an Amazon label! Please Keep in mind I've come to this location before and returned with a pre-paid label from amazon, one would hope that's all you have to do and be on your way with no added cost! I'm told I have to pay 50 cents for taping the box. I ask why the ups worker says they charge for tapping the box because it's a pre-paid label from amazon. I then proceeded to explain to the Ups worker that I've come in this store before and been to other ups stores and they don't charge for tapping a pre-paid label return. As I'm pulling out my card to pay the ups worker ask me in a sketchy way if I have cash. I said no I've never been asked to pay for tapping a pre-paid return labels box! Who in there right mind ask that question I understand y'all have service fees for cards, but if you're so called charging everyone for tapping then you should ask for cash! You're working for a business and will receive money whichever way the customer pays it. I called amazon customer service and spoke with a supervisor and was told that CONTRACTUALLY Ups are not ALLOWED to charge for added service if the customer brings there own box & pre-paid label. It's not about the 50 cents, but rather the principle of the matter. People like this who try to get over on customers is disgusting and bad business. There is always a different story with this store I can't quite wrap my head around this location having sub-par reviews, when they clearly pick and choose when they want to charge people verse when they don't want to charge. Have made two trips in vain, trying to send an Amazon return. First time, staff was very friendly but couldn't do the return for some technical reason. Second time, staff was matter-of-fact, commenting "we work for UPS not Amazon" (not a smart reply) and said the link to Amazon was down. Third time, by phone, they said link was up -- well, it wasn't and a second phone call answered by a different staffer confirmed this and saved another wasted trip. I wish I could put no stars on here. UPS has been letting me down recently. One event was a delivery to my home that never showed up/ they are so unhelpful with my claim/ unresponsive. In light of that the next time I ordered and saw UPS shipping I chose to pick up in store. There's a lady who works there that is so rude. I apparently needed a code to pick up, which I explained I didn't receive one and asked who I needed to call to get it and she proceeded to raise her voice at me noting 'I can't help you, you need to figure it out' , I tried to show her my tracking number and she wouldn't even look at it and said 'I can't give you these until you figure it out'. Based on the other reviews I'm not the only one. Horrible customer service here, and left feeling so uneasy/ unhappy with my experience. read more

Okay, so its time for me to update my review. In the first place, I'm as REAL is it gets....a Real Yelper. And I really live near the neighborhood. A prior reviewer claims this to be the closest UPS store. To Paris? Probably not. Not even close. Unless of course, I've missed the opening of a new restaurant on Solano... "Paris" could be a successful business here. Even without escargot. Anyway... this is my favorite *local* UPS store. (The other favorite UPS store is in Port Townsend, WA.) And why???? Because they were happy to mail out our tax forms last week. Even provided us with the appropriate confirmation certificates. So much easier than waiting through the line at the post office. They were happy to UPS two items to Port Townsend last month. Which isn't remarkable unless you realize that they packaged *and* sent a large rug and a heavy wooden file cabinet within hours. The goods arrived in PT before I did, although I took the next flight out. Next time I fly with UPS. Seriously. Maybe even in a box. And they have been happy to send out various things through the years. WIthout attitude. Cheaply. Promptly. WIthout getting morbid... I thoroughly expect these folks to ship cremains to the family cemetery. With the appropriate respect. Probably cost under twenty dollars. MIght even give the box a bagpipe sendoff! Its a fine store. All the staff is always very well-informed about all the details, some of which can be pretty arcane sometimes. Jeez, people, if you don't like their prices, don't use them. I went by on Friday, April 1, 2022, to drop off an Amazon return package. I walked into the store and I greeted the counterperson with a 'hello' and a smile; she didn't respond. I then placed my package on the counter and flipped through my phone for the return code to be scanned. I presented the information to her, and she scanned it. She then began to scold me ( as if I'm a 2-year old child) about the package could not be accepted. I didn't understand why since I had dropped off countless Amazon packages there without any problems. I asked her what she meant since I couldn't understand what she was saying. She started tapping the package with her index finger and again, scolding me that the package could not be returned at this location. I asked her the reason and she again, started scolding me, tapping the package with her finger and telling me to "READ YOUR INSTRUCTIONS...READ YOUR INSTRUCTIONS." I told her I would, but that she was very rude. She chuckled and replied with a "whatever." I asked her her name, and she responded: "My name is Rachel." I said: "OK, Rachel, I will read the instructions but you're still very rude." I called the store on Monday, April 4, 2022, to speak to a manager about Rachel, and this incident. I spoke to a man, who initially was very hesitant to give his name, and finally relented, and introduced himself as "David". David isn't any better than Rachel. They both need A LOT of training in customer service and front counter client/customer interaction. Take your business elsewhere! read more

Got charged about $150 more than quoted for a package I sent to the east coast. Being over-charged wasn't too much of a big deal until the person I sent the package to called to inquire about all the charges, and was told several lies about the interactions that happened between me (the sender) and the UPS employee. The customer service actually seemed ok when I was in the store. I'm more concerned about the lies and stories that were made up and told to the recipient. Unfortunately I had a terrible experience here today due to an employee that made a very blatantly racist remark. Perhaps because I'm white he thought that I wouldn't take issue with him stating that "airline tickets are cheap to Africa because no one wants to go there because it's full of disease". Not only is this statement incredibly xenophobic, vague and not based in any sort of fact, but it is simply not the place someone at work to make such loaded and hateful statements to the public. I was shocked and told the employee he shouldn't make such statements because "that sounds very bad". He refused to back down and kept repeating that "Africa is full of disease". Where in Africa? What disease? He couldn't even answer these questions as he was speaking from a place of total ignorance and frankly, hate. In terms of business, they charged me $125 to ship a 2 lb package to Germany. I refused and took it to USPS where they shipped the same box for $21. Basically these people are unprofessional and the company is a total rip-off. Buyer beware! read more

Warning: Make *SURE* you actually watch them scan in your pre-paid package(s)! When I came in with my package, they were busy with customers but saw my pre-paid sticker and told me, "Just leave it there, we'll take care of it!", and indicated I was free to leave. Perhaps I was foolishly trusting, but I assume most people would leave their package as I had. Unfortunately, my package never showed up on the UPS or Amazon tracking. Either they somehow forgot to scan AND lost my package, or perhaps, "forgot" to scan my package and then "lost" it into a backpack. Mistakes happen. I am an understanding guy--if they simply apologized, and explained that until a package is scanned in there isn't anything they can do about lost packages--I could have begrudgingly lived with that. Instead, they unapologetically told me that losing a package would be "impossible", and even implied I was imagining the whole thing. Honestly, if it wasn't for the incredibly unhelpful, and frankly, ridiculous response I received after calling to investigate, I would never suspect they had stolen my package. Now I think it is a very real possibility. Either way, they are taking incompetence and customer service to new highs and lows, respectively. HORRIBLE. I went to pick up a package but didn't have my CA ID (I got locked out of my house). I tried to show my school ID to no avail. While I went back to my car to see if I had my passport, unbeknownst to me one of the employees FOLLOWED ME WITH A CAMERA! All I found was my press pass so I went back in to see if that could be accepted. A friend that came along with me told me while I was inside the employee video taped my car! I shrugged it off, thinking they wouldn't do that. So, when I return with my ID the same employee, David Lee, immediately photocopies it. This reminds me of what my friend said the previous day so I ask if in fact he video taped my car. He says yes! His reasoning was that I didn't have my ID...."Hmmmm. That's interesting. Is the policy to video tape cars of people who dont have ID?" He replies that he HAD to do it (despite no written or formal policy) because there have been incidences with drugs and credit card fraud....and he has to protect the store. So...to summarize, I LOOK like a drug dealer or a credit card scam artist (most people think I look like Thandie Newton. Go figure) and my protection isn't important. Needless to say I had a few words with him... as well as UPS store corporate. read more

I called yesterday afternoon to obtain an estimate for packaging and shipping an item to Southern California. I spent about 20 minutes carefully describing the item, dimensions, insurance, weight, packaging requirements and shipping cost with Lalo the estimate was $ 99.00. Today I brought the item to the store and met with Lalo in person. The price he came up with was $ 140.00, an increase of 40 % over the original estimate, I told Lalo this was a form or bait and switch. I could understand if the estimate was off a few dollars, but not 40 % more. All he could say was he was sorry, and as I was walking out of the store he said "have a good day !" I did not appreciate the sarcastic remark. When I returned to my car, I called the store at the El Cerrito plaza, and was quoted a price between $ 100 and $ 120. I went to the store and the final cost, including tax, was $ 106.00. I will never bring another item to the Solano Avenue store in Albany for packaging. read more
