This UPS store continues to get a lower rating every time I visit in and I made the mistake of coming here. Ask instead of the one on San Pablo St., which is just a half mile north on the main road. This store enforces rules from a self made sign which they claimed to be Amazons rules, and are directly conflicted with Amazon rules. If you package a return from Amazon, in a clear path plastic, they will not except it because she claims that it is not in line with the requirements of Amazon. Amazon rules stipulate otherwise. All she wants is for you to buy her packaging, when I asked her to describe what adequate or acceptable packaging is she says the packaging we have here for. Neru or neri ? Is the manager. Went in this morning to use the Notary service and do some copying and had possibly the rudest and most insulting customer experience. I mistakenly put a paper clip into what I thought was the trash on the center console, a moment later the bleach blond woman working behind the counter yelled at me and continued with derisive commentary. it was a very uncomfortable situation and I decided to do my copying project else. I did not have the time to print the return label and was charged $5.00 for it. They had no sense of urgency and told me that next time, I needed to tape my own box. I have been to other stores where staff does not charge me for the printout and gladly help me with the taping part. They seem tired and lazy and as if they did not want to be there! read more

The white lady who works there was rude and racist toward me during my first visit to the store. I had two packages to drop off and grabbed two small, thin plastic bags to carry my items for an Amazon return. At first, I didn't realize there was a fee for the bags. I took them outside, returned with my packages to scan and drop off, and was confronted by her. Instead of calmly explaining that I needed to pay for the bags, she accused me of stealing and said it out loud. I apologized, explained I didn't know, and assured her I would return quickly with my packages. Despite this, she continued to accuse me of stealing and gave me a terrible attitude. All this over thin plastic bags--it was humiliating and completely unnecessary. read more

She patiently listened to me and my needs and calculated the least expensive option. Although the cost was expensive, I know my drums will arrive in perfect condition. Very disappointed in my visit to this location. Yes, it was busy, but there is no reason that Nicole should have directed her annoyance at me. First she shouted that customers could use the kiosk. I grabbed the mouse but didn't see where I could scan my returns, so I stayed in line. When I got to Nicole, I told her, and she sighed and condescendingly told me there was a small scanner "right there." Given that I haven't gone under the UPS training that she has, I could've used some grace. Then she scanned my packages super fast but then saw one was scanned already. She asked me which one despite her being the one scanning things. She asked me if I gave her something twice, even though she put the packages on the counter behind her. I told her, let's do the three (only 3!) packages again just in case. Through all of her heavy sighs, eye rolls, and frustration, she asked if two of the packages belonged together (they had different Amazon QR codes; how was I supposed to know?). I asked to see the receipts which she (rudely) held up in front of me, and I quickly saw that two items were on the same label. Mystery solved but her attitude remained. At no time did I give her the same rude energy she gave me as a customer just because I was not as well versed in the UPS world as she is. I'd encourage the store to give Nicole more training so she can learn how to control her frustrations or at the very least not take them out on a customer who was neither rude nor unprofessional. read more

I came in to return a large box from Amazon. I was on crutches with a broken leg and Nicole was very very helpful. She helped me get my box into the front door to the desk and opened the door for me on the way out. When my mother passed away, we sent her treasures via UPS in Cranford, NJ. to relatives in various parts of the country. The store packed and shipped even very delicate china. Everything arrived in perfect shape. The service and kindness showed by employees at that store made me want to use UPS recently after my husband died. Anish very kindly and knowledgeably helped me by notarizing a document. He was through, patient and understanding. He provided outstanding assistance. Nichole helped me twice recently. She really knows the business and I appreciate how hard she works. Being in customer service these days is no picnic I am sure. Helping a sea of customers day after day must take special people skills. I try to greet staff politely and hope to be treated in kind. Perhaps because I am grieving I look for folks who treat me with kindness, respect and understanding. I like the El Cerrito Plaza UPS Store because there is parking which makes it easier to carry in heavy boxes. Polite service is also a determining factor for where I shop. Sharp comments, or a lack of empathy or respect would cause me to take my business elsewhere. I once stayed at a Ritz Carlton on business. The service was incredible. So much so that I suggested they start a training program to teach people customer service in other companies. They did. Receiving good customer service fills one with gratitude and makes one want to continue as a customer. read more

I needed to return a package I ordered via Amazon and I had to return it by that day (which happened to be a Sunday) otherwise, I'd be stuck with something I didn't want. It was the most convenient location to home for a transaction on a Sunday. Hubbers and I found street parking, no problem. We walked in and told the lady up front (didn't catch her name, but she had face piercings should you need a specific description) and told her my issue. Immediately, she said they're having issues with their system and are unable to scan any QR codes. "We've been having the same issues for a few days now." I asked if I had the option of printing a label (since I was already there and I was willing to pay.) "No, sorry, we can't do that." So, I asked if she can point to me the nearest UPS store currently accepting Amazon return packages open that same day. She wasn't willing to work on that either. She had that "GTFO here, I'M NOT HELPING YOU!" attitude the whole time. Seriously, how hard is it for her to look at their company directory?! I know they have one! Luckily, I had a back-up location (in case this place didn't pan out - it's always good to be prepared) so Hubbers and I bounced to that location where we were treated the complete opposite of how this pierced lady treated us. Not recommending. I'd rather give up the refund or get stuck with something I didn't want than come back here ever again. read more

This is another outstanding UPS Store. I needed a better passport photo than those I had gotten at two other locations, and this one turned out 150% better than the others. Except for the fact that it's far away, I never come here. I like this store and came here to return an Amazon package and it was done, easy peasy. Actually, not quite, I was looking for the QR code and it wasn't in my email or text apps, but I eventually found it in my Amazon app. This was fantastic! But the point is that the person waiting on my was so patient and I appreciated this. The only hassle was parking because I was in the lot and an Amazon truck was partially blocking the space. I didn't want to go through all of the trouble of inching my way into the space. So I parked a bit away. And had to walk in the rain to get there. But it was all good. I was however pleasantly surprised when I had a document notarized by one of the most polite and professional associates I've ever encountered---Jennifer. She was patient, efficient, and highly professional and my transaction was completed in a timely manner; she acknowledged me and others waiting in line. I always have a great experience here. The staff know what they are doing! Even if there is a line, it generally moves fast, because these folks are in the know! UPS recently lost one of my packages, which was super stressful. One of the managers, Jennifer, was able to track it down and get it delivered. This took a lot of time and tenacity on her part. This is the store to go to because if something does get lost, they will work hard to find it. They are open every day, including Sundays, and evenings in the weekdays. And decent parking. I was at your store today at 3:30 when one of your employees that has her desk closer to the entrance yelled at me for entering the store because there are already 3 customers inside. First of all, if you are limiting the # of people inside it's your responsibility to meter people into the building. Expecting patrons to poke their head inside and check out if the coast is clear to come in is unreasonable. She then continued to use a harsh tone as she spoke to me during my entire stay at the store. I didn't come in to cause problem nor to put anyone at harm. And I understand everyone is stressed during this pandemic but I didn't deserve to be treated poorly in a UPS store by one of your employees. UPS Customer Service Representatives were hopping BUSY the day I needed their help returning shipping the AT&T modem. I was shocked seeing the line was almost out the front entrance door~It was ONLY 10:30 AM!! Whoa~I have never visited a bustling UPS Store like this store! All the other UPS Stores I have visited in the past were all so very quiet . . . Tranquil-HAH!! But, not this store! All the Customer Service Representatives were very busy helping customer after customer after customer . . . Geez~Where did all these people come from and impressively, the line is increasing going out the front door! Whoa!!! Fifteen minutes later after waiting in line, the Representatives help me ship the unwanted modem to AT&T: Sayonara, AT&T modem! The Representatives informed me that the AT&T Corporate Store across the way always sends their AT&T customers returning their unwanted modems here; wow, I didn't know THAT! Finally, from now on, if I have an unwanted modem, I will always return to this UPS Store shipping to AT&T. read more

Came on a Friday around 5pm. As I was driving to the Plaza and noticed the traffic I thought maybe it wasn't a good idea. Sure enough there was a wait and a line out the door. On the plus, even when busy plenty of parking here. I was actually glad to realize that the line outside was because they were trying to limit the number of people inside to 6. I didn't have to wait too long (about 5 minutes). Once inside, the worker Jacqueline, was friendly and helpful. I shipped two repurposed cases of wine to LA with my crocheted scarves, beanies, and blankets because what else is there to do during this quarantine. Each box was about $20. So glad that I chose to ship with UPS over USPS because the wait at the post office is usually a pain especially around the holidays. read more

Last Friday (6/23/23) I sent some very time-sensitive materials to the US State Dept using the UPS Store at El Cerrito Plaza. I paid for it to be delivered Tuesday morning, 6/27/23, and I pre-paid for return overnight delivery. Total cost was $108. It's now two days since the envelope was supposed to have been delivered. Having received no acknowledgement from the State Dept, I tracked the package at the UPS website. According to UPS Tracking, the package never left the UPS Store at El Cerrito Plaza. My conclusion is that they lost my envelope in the store. Today (Thursday) I go to the store and when I tell the manager my story, before she does any investigation, she snaps back at me "Of course it left the store." There was absolutely no way that she could have known that the envelope left the store, unless she herself loaded that envelope on the truck last Friday and remembered that one envelope specifically. Rather she was just reflexively, and unpleasantly, defensive. I asked for a refund of both the outgoing and return services because now, due to their incompetence, I have to go somewhere else and resubmit my forms to the State Dept. I am still inside a narrow window for getting my documents approved and returned, and that window is not going to widen just because UPS Store at El Cerrito lost my documents. Instead of issuing me a refund, the manager told me that I had to wait to see if UPS ever found the envelope. That is not an option for me. I don't have the luxury of waiting for the UPS to say that they can't find an envelope that the UPS Store failed to ever put on a truck. When I pushed back, the manager resorted to claiming that the UPS Store was not part of UPS - that they were independent contractors which is complete nonsense. UPS Stores are wholly owned by UPS. She then decided to highlight the very fine print in their document and asserted this to be absolution of her store's responsibility (essentially saying "It's UPS's problem, not the UPS Store's.") Here's my summary: UPS Store lost my documents and the UPS Corporation failed to deliver as promised. I can't wait for them to complete a search so I have to pay for these services all over again. The manager refused to refund my money. She was not remotely apologetic for losing my documents, nor was she in any way accommodating, however she was able to muster the energy to be defensive and dismissive. She misrepresented the situation, telling me that the UPS Store was not part of UPS. And I am fairly confident she continued to lie when she said that she has no manager and she reports to no one at UPS. Positive note: the other staff were friendly. Love this store so much! I drive past another UPS to get here because they are always very helpful and don't charge a dollar to help tape your package. I've been here well over thirty times the past year for amazon returns. Today Skyler helped me, they always work fast and are friendly. I have seen Several rude customers today including one today refusing to wear his mask, very rude to everyone making the elderly nervous- and yelling that he was going to fart and see if the staff could still smell it through their mask. He said he was going to write a negative review and that made me realize I should write a positive one.
