I went to the Madison Park Bakery on a mission: to get my hands on the rainbow cake. I've been wanting to taste it for months and to see if it might be the appropriate cake for my 30th birthday. The cake itself is beautiful. 5 layers of vibrant rainbow colors! And while the cake is good, it isn't wonderful, which left me a little disappointed. It was moist and yummy but all the layers are the same flavor and I really would have loved something fruity or tangy in there. Might be better served with some fresh fruit for a tang factor. I use to consider Madison Park Bakeries cheese rolls my yum yum rolls because they were so yummy, five stars all the way. Than I was watching a Dateline NBC episode where Chris Hansen was exposing a child sexual slavery ring and the term yum yum was the term the children used for oral sex. I decided my Madison Park Bakery cheese rolls are now just delish not so much yum yum. But to make them delish you must first pop them in the microwave for about 17 seconds and what comes out is delish delish, no longer yum yum. Their cupcakes are on the smaller side compared to some of the area cupcake shops, they are more moist then Cupcake Royal but not really worth the $2.49 price tag, I'd much rather go to Trophy's and pay $2.99 for a yummy big cupcake than $2.49 for a tiny just OK cupcake. Also their snickerdoodles are disappointing, again on the smaller side than what you can find at other bakeries but the same price. Their old fashion donuts however are awfully tasty. Hmm apparently size does matter for me, when it comes to cupcakes and cookies, no yum yum for you small things. read more

Strolling in the Madison park area on a beautfiul fall day, I run into the Madison Park Bakery. I am also looking for a great place that has home baked bread. I walk into the store, and suddenly forget that I am in Seattle, the feel and atmosphere is small town all the way. Local people greeted by name, and wonderful sweets and breads everywhere. Yum! I decide to take home the 100% whole wheat breat which I had for breakfast this morning and it was so good, the ginger molasses cookies which were exactly what I had in mind for a treat. I also brought home a small Cherry pie for my hubby which was perfect size for a few smaller pieces. Lot's of other sinful goodies ready to go home with people. I limited my visit to only three, but I'll be back somdeday for more. p.s. there is a $5 minimum on using a credit card, if under 5they charge .50 cents Stop by! it is worth a visit. read more

This place will never fall short of satisfying your sweet tooth, unless you are the type who frowns upon simple donuts, cookies and cakes. No one would ever accuse Madison Park Bakery of being too fancy, but that is fine with me. Sometimes a maple donut with small pieces of bacon over the top just hits the spot more than a kouign amon does.They also have plenty of other cookies, donuts and cakes to be had. Throw in an extremely friendly staff and a large selection and I can't find that much to complain about. The only ill will I bear towards MPB is those times on Mondays when I come by and the place is closed all day. Anything I've already had I can recommend, which would be a buttercream cupcake, a traditional cake donut and a peanut butter cookie. I'm not sure how this bakery has 5 stars. I have walked in here a couple of times. All they basically have are sugar cookies and thumbprints. The sugar cookies are very thin and appear to have been decorated with sprinkles by children. There didn't seem to be much of any variety. Also, the cookies are overpriced for what you get, $2.25 for the basic sugar cookie. I hate to compare, but I'd go to Borracchini's Bakery on Rainier if you want an array of baked goods to choose from. read more

We ate our treats before I could snag a photo of them, but they were DELICOUS!! We took an afternoon trip to the area and stopped at the bakery for a little sweet treat - a slice of chocolate cake with raspberry filling and a sprinkle-topped meringue nest. Both of them were lovely, with great flavor and texture. The best part, though, was the owner, who was very friendly and helpful and even helped me bring the treats outside, since I am currently hobbled by crutches and couldn't really hold anything easily. I was so disappointed by the lack of customer service. I live in Madison Park and go often to the bakery for a small treat. However, this last visit was the first time I was ordering a custom cake for my baby's first birthday. I asked for a not so complicated design on top of the cupcakes I was ordering, I was told - "we won't have time for that." Mind you, this was an order placed over two weeks out and only for 18 cupcakes. I ordered them anyway, and they came out fine. However, on pick up day they double charged me and left out some of the order. We had to go back on patty day to get things fixed, which added stress to our special day. I will not go back. Even their donuts aren't worth the lack of customer service they provide. read more

I have been going to this bakery since I was a little girl so it was not surprising that I called them for very special individual party desserts. I called on Saturday for a Tues party. Fast forwarded to party day, they call at 10am to inform me nope, we promised but we didn't get a delivery (which brings up the question, what bakery are you ordering from? ) The woman was well hey we are sorry we just didn't get the delivery.... so I will be scrambling to replace this specific dessert for my party in 5 hours. Eat there fine, just don't depend on them for any orders and if you try to order, ask, are you making that or ordering from a 3rd party (shocking to me) what kind of bakery does that? read more

They were gracious in letting us try as many cakes as we needed to choose the perfect one for our day, which was a hard choice because they are all so delicious! Cakes and free smells. I've seen countless ads for the Madison Park Bakery in bridal magazines and for some reason never thought about visiting them. I guess for some reason I assumed there'd only be cake. Buuuuuuut we all know what happens when you assume. Except in this instance, the only ass is me. I was lured in by the smell. That's usually a good thing when it comes to edibles. Things don't usually smell good and then end up tasting like complete garbage. I only wanted to get something small, and the meringues looked fun, so I got 4. I had a strawberry heart, a purple cotton candy octagonish thing, a round lemon, and a round orange-colored one. (I'm sorry... I don't remember what flavor the orange one was.) The cotton candy was my favorite. They were all melt-in-your-mouth-after-the-initial-semi-crunch with mild flavor. I also had a real butter croissant. (They advertised it as such.) If it were up to me, they shouldn't have to be labeled as having "real butter" because croissants made any other way should be outlawed... It tasted like what a croissant should be like. It's a tossup between which is a better croissant-- the one here or the ones at Bakery Nouveau. Nouveau's are a little more toasted, so they're kind of one of those same-but-different things so I guess they're both the best in their own rights. Come here for a softer croissant. Anyway... The last item I added on was a raspberry thumbprint. I should have gotten three more of these instead of the other meringues. They are "a favorite" for a reason. Delicious buttery cookie with a whipped raspberry topping. Holy crap they're good. And only $0.75! ...I don't think I've ever talked that much about butter before. Yikes. Being in Madison park - I had higher hopes for this location. I was thinking it was a large bakery and coffee shop but actually it is small. The employees are friendly and what we had (coffee and pastry) was OK but I would not go back. They do not serve any whipped cream products - which I had hoped for but they do have other items. I also noticed the wedding cakes on display appear to need dusting or replacing since some looked older. Interesting when I asked for a real cup (not paper) for my almond mocha (which they had) I was told if they had civilized cups - they would be require to charge sales tax. I guess even the State of Washington agrees with me - a real cup is the sign of a classy place. LOL read more

Wow, what a massive disappointment. I really thought that a bakery of all institutions would have a low tolerance for terrible doughnuts, especially since it charges 50% more than anyone else. Let me repeat that: these borderline-inedible doughnuts cost 50% more than anywhere else I have found in the greater Seattle area. And I got short-changed by a doughnut. Madison Park Bakery cooks its doughnuts thoroughly, though sometimes excessively. Many doughnut shops seem to think that the same temperature and time work for all doughnuts, producing dry old fashioneds and sometimes logging some of the fritters with grease. Fortunately, Madison Park Bakery did not sell me any doughnuts that were saturated with oil. However--and I cannot emphasize the importance of this enough--all of the doughnuts reeked of stale grease, which imparted in them a bitter, rotten flavor. Only one doughnut was not inedible and I think that it was the exception because its slathering of maple glaze masked the disgusting oil. Okay, but if fresh oil were used, how might the doughnuts fare? The raised doughnuts were otherwise pretty average, with crispy exteriors and chewy interiors that were surprisingly tough. The Boston cream doughnut had a generous filling of decent cream that was only slightly sour. Its glaze seemed like a failed attempt at fanciness, being rich, but also bitter and coarse. I might have appreciated it more though had the dough not been savory and rancid. This could actually be a good doughnut if cooked in fresh oil. Similarly, the apple fritters might be good if cooked in fresh oil. They were large and had excellently crispy edges. The centers were soft, but also a bit dry; however, this is acceptable in a fritter. They were also a little light on the apple, though in my particular experience the sour apple clashed with the rancid oil, so I was actually grateful for that failing. Still, their crispiness was uniquely pronounced, so they have potential. Since the fritters' technical failings were minimal, it should come as no shock that the shop's greatest botch is with its old fashioneds. These were weirdly shaped, more like malformed cake doughnuts than like old fashioneds, so they did not catch much of the glaze. They were quite crispy at the edges, but were also unbearably dry. This could be an adequate shop if its disgusting oil did not ruin everything, but its old fashioneds would still be worth avoiding. And don't forget that it charges 50% more than anyone else. read more

My favorite place to pick up a cake for dinner parties. I love the Chocolate and White cake - the double layered version at around $20 is great for 6-8 people. There is usually one of these in the counter, and I'm not sure if I always get lucky and get the last one, or if there are more in the back. The cookies look awesome, as do the pastries. While I think these are pretty tasty, they actually look better than they taste. Overall, a tad bit pricey for the cookies and pastries, but what do you expect for Madison Park. read more

I so badly want to like this place. Before moving to Madison Park my boss raved about this bakery but everytime I've been in there I've been underwhelmed. There is way too much sugary baked things, cookies, donuts, danishes, cake, and pie. I personally love having a scone or muffin with coffee or even buying fresh bread at a local bakery but they do not make anything but sweets here, so this is simply not my kind of bakery. I have noticed however, many of my violin students will go to the bakery for a sweet treat after their violin lessons, so the bakery is good for rewarding little children. read more

I am simply reviewing them for their maple bacon doughnut. It is the BEST I'VE EVER HAD! I've had several maple bacon doughnuts and none are at par with Madison Park Bakery's. They have perfected this doughnut and I need to have one every week! Their bacon pieces are larger that most places. It allows you to have a bite of the crispy goodness. I love Madison Park Bakery. The smells waft towards my apartment since I only live a couple blocks away. They are a wonderful selection of baked goods and beautiful cake displays. I haven't tried much, but everything I have had I've loved. My favorites so far are thumbprint cookies, chocoalte frosted donuts and chocoalte chip cookies. I've seen Maple Bacon Donuts which are a rarity to find. The cakes also look wonderful, but I haven't had an occasion to buy one yet. read more

We picked up a cherry pie as a last-minute dessert for a dinner party. What a disappointment! The crust was thick, doughy and chewy and ate like it needed another ten minutes in the oven. Great staff. Tons of different kinds of sweet treats at affordable prices and a great location not far from the water and views of 520. I was struggling to get motivated to finish up some work I had before a meeting in the area when I happened upon this bakery. They had a great selection of frosted cookies, traditional pastries and cakes. I am a huge fan of meringues and loved that they had several flavors (cotton candy, chocolate chip, strawberry, vanilla and chocolate). They even had ones with adorable dog faces on them. I have had many custom cakes - my little guy wanted a military birthday cake so they put a tank and army guys on it and made it kind of camo style, we did a Garfield high school bulldog theme graduation cake, and most recently a poker birthday party cake. The decorations are wonderful but most importantly the cake is delicious!! You can tell they use fresh, REAL ingredients like butter and eggs and not weird processed stuff. I recently ordered some baked goods for a party I was hosting. The pink champagne cupcakes were good, but they charged nearly full large cupcake price for them (quite expensive!) The lemon bars were very good. And the jam thumbprint cooking were AMAZING! On the complaint side, I spent nearly $65 for 2 dozen mini cupcakes, 6 lemon squares and 1 dozen cookies...WAY too much (but I was in a jam and needed the goods). Also, I called nearly three times to try and get a clear price quote prior to the pick-up day. I seemed to always get a clueless clerk who could neither tell me how much my order would cost, nor find anyone who could. This was extremely frustrating, and as a result, I spent way more than I would have liked to. read more

I first saw Madison Park Bakery at the Seattle Wedding Show and their cake samples were the best ones there! When we went in for our wedding cake tasting, the staff were super helpful and offered great advice. They certainly know their stuff when it comes to cakes and serving guests at a wedding. Throughout the whole process leading up to the wedding they were super easy to work with, and even accommodated a few last minute changes from us just before the big day! Our wedding cake (and extra sheet cake) were decorated beautifully and were absolutely delicious. We look forward to coming back to this bakery again! read more
