Although not pictured, I did infact get am opera cake from here. It was delicious and shareable. Depending on your sweet tooth and portion size. I say modestly it can be shared between 2-4 people. The cake was light, with a smooth consistency. Chocolate is not too rich because I have a sneeze indicator. The higher the percentage in dark chocolate the higher the likelihood I am to sneeze. I was just on the verge and typically happens somewhere between 70% and above. Anyways I recommend coming here and trying their offerings. I was eyeing a pistachio croissant they have so I might be back again to try that. Aside from that, service wise I had no complaints. Parking can get tricky since it's just street parking. read more

Popped back into Belle Epicurean after a few years. I was thrilled to see new menu items and that they are using real dishes! We had the Cote D'or breakfast sandwich and the Madison breakfast sandwich. Both were delicious. Flavorful and flaky buns, fresh ingredients. Flavor combinations were on point. We ordered our sammys to go and didn't have to wait too long. We really liked this place it's way overpriced but quality was always really good. My most recent visit was incredibly bad. The service person was beyond rude "they" let me stand there waiting while chatting with another employee about their social schedule. The finally approached and said "ya" rude as can be. This place was really cute! I came here after going on a long walk through the arboretum. I was pretty hungry for lunch so i went with the turkey baguette sandwich. I also had a matcha latte. The bread was very good and I enjoy the sandwich , which had a nice amount of thinly sliced turkey and some savory spread. Unfortunately the matcha latte was a bit weak and seemed watery. Not as creamy as I would have liked. I also like that they have mini croissants so you can just get a small one instead of a big regular croissant. Since it's a French place, I had to try one! The matcha however was probably the most poorly made I've had, which was a huge bummer. The powder was just kinda dumped in and barely stirred. The ambiance was fine and I sat on the patio for a moment to eat one of my pastries. The service was kinda mixed. The first person who was helping me while I was deciding punched out and left without communicating that they didn't take my order. The other person didn't realize, but eventually asked if I was waiting on something. Belle Epicurean is simultaneously one of the worst and most expensive bakeries I've ever been to. I tried the Cinnamon Crème Brioche Bun and the Raspberry Almond Croissant. The Brioche Bun was terrible. It's a bun with a little bit of a sugary cinnamon topping. The bread was dry and stale. It tasted like it was day-old. The cinnamon topping had a slight gross taste to it, hard to describe just mildly unpleasant. The croissant was similarly quite dry and not very tasty. It was a shocking $9 for this small pastry. They were both bad enough that I didn't bother finishing either. The shop is a standard looking cafe with a little attached shop that sells specialty cooking goods. Based on how normal it looked I was really surprised by how bad the pastries were. read more

Definitely drop by Belle Epicurean Bakery for the absolute cutest French bakery! The ambiance is very cute and the perfect place for a coffee date! It gets pretty busy and it's a little small so definitely get there a bit earlier on the weekend. I got there around 10AM on a Saturday and had to wait in line for a little but was still able to grab a seat. There's also parking in the back of the store so that's very convenient or there's street parking all around. They do both to-go and for-here orders. I was catching up with a friend so we ordered for-here. Since it was a Saturday, I thought I'd treat myself to a latte. I ordered a hot latte with toffee syrup. To be honest, I couldn't taste the flavor but maybe it was just light. I do love strong coffee/espresso so it still tasted super good and perfectly warm. They also have an assortment of fresh bakery items. I got a lemon almond croissant which they kindly warmed up for me. It was super tasty, I'd highly recommend! The highlight of this place is the service and hospitality. The lady helping us with our food order was so sweet and engaging and just a delight to talk with! She let us know we could order our drinks at the register and she'll bring us out everything. She even recommended we grab a table while we were waiting in line since it was starting to get busy. I picked up a salted caramel cream pie from the Metropolitan Market in Tacoma the other day and was blown away by the flavor! I wish that I could try it for the first time again and again because that first bite can only be described as bliss on a fork. The salted caramel pie was creamy and smooth with a slight hint of saltiness that brought out all of the decadent flavors. I also loved how light the pie and piped whip cream was - and thought it paired perfectly with the graham cracker crust. I could spend years trying to recreate the moment of bliss I experienced in that first bite, so I simply must have Belle Epicurean on retainer to chase that moment forever. read more

I've visited them a few times over the last couple years and each time the service is very lacking (perhaps understaffed) and the pastries are either too oily or just not great. Please note that I am literally counting the ingrediencies because that's how little food this was. The ham and cheese came on a plate right away and so did my cold brew. The latte came a little bit after. The almond croissant was a no show for about 20 mins. We initially waited inside but then it got crowded so we went outside. Still nothing, I went back in to ask and the person who took my order had no clue what I was talking about. Someone else ended up grabbing me a croissant in a bag. The cold brew was just ok. It depends on your preference but this one has a dark and bitter taste. It was also very acidic. The ham and cheese croissant was good, flakey and fresh. Warning the thing was extreme oily from being so BUTTERY. Like my whole hand looked l used butter as a hand lotion. The ham inside was tasty too but a small rolled up slice. Might come back for a pasty but will pass on the coffee next time. read more

One of our favorite stops for a delicious pastry and coffee. Highly recommend the macarons which are heavenly and in a variety of flavors. We came here for a late lunch, after finding that it was so closely located to the arboretum. We needed food, so was happy this was just across from the park, but didn't expect to find such a charming French cafe and brasserie. First of all, they allow dogs inside, which is an automatic one-star addition - duh. And for us, humans, the moment you step inside you are greeted by a friendly employee who's happy to answer any questions or make recommendations. Since we came for a late lunch the employee informed us that the pastries still there were half off (except the apricot croissant, which they use to make another dessert the following day). Most of the pastries left were mini brioche buns, so we ordered the apple and the vanilla rose ones to eat later. For lunch I ordered the Warm Pepper Turkey Sandwich with a side of a Warm Lentil Salad. We also had a bottle of rose to share, after realizing that a bottle was only 15 bucks versus the eight dollar per glass. We chose a seat on the patio, which is in the back of the building. The server delivers your food to you, and I liked that since we were having wine there - she made sure to bring a bucket of ice for the wine, to keep it chilled. Also, there is a small parking lot in the back in case you don't find street parking nearby. I didn't expect the Warm Pepper Turkey to be served on the bread that it was served on, but am so glad it was. It was circular and you could easily tear it apart, as if the shape was rolled, making a spiral as its surface. I figured the sandwich would be on toast or any other kind of bread you would expect, but this spiral-like bread its served on was delicious. I especially loved how soft it was yet crispy on the edges. The turkey was very good, and enjoyed the melted cheese with the herb mornay sauce to accompany it, making it very creamy and tasty. The Warm Lentil Salad made for a good side as there were pieces of smoked bacon in it, adding lots of flavor and liked that it was served on a bed of spring mix. With the Warm Pepper Turkey Sandwich having so much of a butter base, it was nice to have a side that added some lightness and balance to the meal. Not only was the staff helpful and decor and setting reflective of a Parisian cafe, but the food was addicting! Good luck trying to figure out which pastries, cakes and macarons to order, as everything looked stunning.
