I actually went into the bakery twice today. First was in the morning around 10:30-11am. It must have been after a class ended at the nearby dance school because there were bunch of kids and their parents in the bakery. The line looked quite disorganized and I was confused. The cashier had to yell to make customers line up properly. The line was longer than I thought, and I wasn't in the mood to wait so I left empty handed the first time round. I had another chance the same day to revisit around 15 minutes before close, so I took that chance. There were only one other party being helped, and there were still plenty of baked goods to choose from. I was eyeing the demi baguette and the scone since the morning, so I got them. I was excited about the baguette because it was like $2.7 each, whereas the same thing costs like $6 at sea wolf. I wanted to find out if the baguette is as good as the one at sea wolf, and if so, I would start coming here because it's much closer to where I live. And Larsen's delivered on the baguette! It was dense in the right way and went well with the brie cheese I had on hand. Sea wolf's are kind of elevated with the half sourdough but Larsen's baguette tasted pretty on par for me, and you cannot beat the price here. This was a happy discovery! Scone was average. I am interested in trying their other stuff. It was interesting that they had a rather American baked goods like donuts and cookies. I'll take whatever is good and reasonably priced! read more

Larsen is almost certainly not the best bakery in Seattle, but it more than makes up for that with local flair and nostalgia. It's been here forever (the locals love it) and it has some Scandinavian flavors (e.g. poppy seeds covering pastries) that are hard to find elsewhere. They have lots of options especially if you want to buy something larger like a cake or an entire strudel or loaves of bread which some of the smaller Nordic bakeries in the region just don't have space for. I probably wouldn't go here for "normal" bakery items - the flavor profile runs a bit sweet for my personal preference - but it's a good location for specialty/Denmark specific/otherwise difficult to find items. My partner and I drove past Larsen's Danish Bakery earlier today and we decided to turn our car around just to see what they're all about! We love bakeries, and so when we went inside we saw a glorious amount of delicious looking baked goods throughout a lot of the display. It was hard to choose which items to get as we didn't want to fill ourselves up with pastries since we were going to get lunch right after. We ended up ordering the chocolate cinnamon roll and the chocolate croissant and it was packed nicely for us. We tried out the cinnamon roll first, but it honestly wasn't all that we were hoping for. It wasn't as soft as we wanted, and I personally thought it tasted a little burnt but my partner said that might just be the chocolate. The chocolate croissant was a lot better, but it still didn't stand out to me all that much. It was buttery and had a good taste to it, but not something I would be racing to get again. The staff were friendly and there was a good assortment of items. I think we got the wrong things, but I definitely want to come back again here to try out the other stuff that they have. It pains me to be critical of a hometown favorite but despite the excellent products crafted at this historic establishment I do have a nit to pick. I like to treat my relatives to Larsen's outstanding Kringle during the holiday season. Due to the distances I live from family I must get them shipped; and herein lies the rub. The shipping costs are staggering. Shipping a $20 kringle to Maine costs over $70. Atlanta and Pittsburgh $50ish. Across the sound to Kitsap $35ish. I have gulped and paid the freight because I want them to have something special. Then, on a whim, I came across and advert for O&H Danish Bakery in Racine, Wisconsin and though it would be fun to do a taste test. Their Kringle price is comparable to Larsen's but the shipping price to Seattle? Ten bucks. In spite of my suspicion that Larson's product will prevail in the upcoming taste test this is likely the last year I will be paying for shipping that is many times the cost of the product. Oh, and unlike the Larsen's shipping protocol, O&H privides for a gift note to be included. Their product might turn out to be just very good rather than outstanding but the effort they make to provide a first class shipping experience far outshines the sub standard process at Larsen's. read more

Larson's bakery has changed the recipe over the years on a couple of my favorites that being the apple fritters and the old fashioned donuts. Now the flavor is there but the best word I can use to describe is overcooked. These things are actually hard on the edges and they're not supposed to be. Almost like 2 days old. Now I say this in comparison to Aurora donuts which are superior in every way soft melt in your mouth delicious but I was very disappointed at this experience with Larson's and a petty for which I have yet to have I've never been disappointed with that but three pieces cost me $13 which is exuberant to say the least but I paid it but since I am moving today I won't be going back. They have plenty of other goodies that are probably not overcooked in the Apple Danish looked really good and I should have gotten that. I will say watch out for their coffee prices because they're between 6 and $10 mostly to get a decent coffee and that's ridiculous I won't pay it. This is not our Dad's or moms Larson's bakery. And I would also like to add that they did not have any marzipan slices ready to go early at 9:30. And that is one of my favorites one of the best things they have and they didn't have any and that was a disappointment but again I will not be coming back here. read more

After hearing a coworker rave about this bakery for years, I found myself somewhat close and rerouted to make a specific stop here to enjoy the bakery. I arrived and quickly figured out the line system, and took a glance at some of the options as I waited in line. I chose a carrot cake and another pastry and also something to drink. It was a bit crowded and I don't remember there being very good seating so I went to my car to devour my tasty morsels across the street. I enjoyed them, but they weren't great. I would say compared to some other bakery options such as bakery NEVILLE this place is good. I will return again as they had a lot of other options. I believe one of the unique things of this bakery is how many different options. They actually have varying from cookies and breads to cake, cakes and pastries so I will come back and try them again. Delicious, incredible, a staple and a must!! Favorites from here are their rye loaf, fruit danish (any of them) and the savory pastries, like ham & cheese croissant. Also recently tried the Fattigmann - they look like little bread stick twists but have a delightful cardamom flavor that's not too sweet and perfect for snacking on, alone or with tea. As there is so much to choose from, try to get something new every visit! Long lines can form, and they do run out of things, but like moves quickly, the staff is friendly/helpful/knowledgeable, and you really can't go wrong in your selections. I love the huge assortment here, and especially the almond pastries. The huge apricot and almond pastry is a crowd pleaser, and the apricot pairs perfectly. The cream cheese bun is delightful too. Cherry danishes are very solid here as well and the perfect balance of tart and sweet. The pastry flakiness is soft and buttery, and has the perfect homemade taste. I was super excited to try this as I lived in Denmark (Svaneke) for six months and I wanted to like it. I've ordered perhaps $450 worth of items. This place is interesting - aside from the Kringle, which is phenomenal and the breads, I'm not sure anything else qualifies as close to being Danish. Pastries are covered in way too much frosting. Specifically, cakes I have ordered have a frosting to cake ratio of about 20% cake. They should be called American Danish at best. I think they should just drop the Danish from their name or add American in front of it... very commercial, not very Danish. read more

A wonderful little danish bakery in the Ballard neighborhood. The selection is immense! It's hard to choose from all the beautiful pastries on display in the case. We've picked up their kringle before for a dessert to bring to a party, it's lighter than some others I have had and only comes in almost flavor, but it is quite tasty. They have a strange roll too that is like a bread roll on the outside and jalapeno cream cheese in the middle that is surprisingly good! This is my first time coming here and I didn't expect the place to be so big! They have a variety of baked goods from danishes, to bread, to cookies and donuts, literally everything! The best way I can describe these pastries is as melting-in-your-mouth-good. Beware, this is a popular spot so it'll be a bit of a wait, but trust me, it's absolutely worth it! I was only able to snap a picture of a turkey themed chocolate cupcake but I've tried their chocolate, raspberry and ham & cheese croissants too. I was running an errand in Seattle, drove past it and googled it to see whether it was legit or not. Glad I made the decision to check it out. Right away my eyes gravitated to the 50% off day old bread. I got a poppyseed loaf of some sort and it was only like $3 for a HUGE soft loaf. I also ordered a ham and Swiss pastry. It was slightly oily based on the oil residue from the bag, but the pastry puff on the outside was buttery yet light tasting and airy. I loved it so much I wish I had another one to scarf down. Fantastic bakery tucked away on the corner of 80th and 24th street. Loads of baked goodies from cakes, assorted cookies, doughnuts, scones, macarons, loaves of bread and more. They have coffee too! We got a bag of special cookies- you can choose an assortment from the case and they weigh it. This was the highlight- excellent taste and reminded me of almond butter cookies we picked up in rome on a trip. They have cookies with walnuts, some with marzipan, some with Excellent taste, no artificial flavors that felt synthetic and really fresh. Also got a ham and swiss croissant and caramel macchiato with oat milk. The croissant was good. They have a microwave for you to warm up items if you like- but a toaster oven might have been better as the croissant gets a little melty in the microwave , but sooooo good when warm! They have some seating and the friendliest service. The young lady who explained all the different cookies to us was a treat- so upbeat and nice.
