Came in today for the second time, each being after many bad decisions were made the night before. Pho being my number one go-to when I'm hungover as I'm sure it is for others.
I have to say I don't remember who was working last time I went in, but I remember being fairly satisfied with the service.
This time however, I was blown away! I should've gotten his name to add in my review but I assume it would be easy for the owners to recognize who was working today around 8pm. This guy was as friendly without being annoying as you can get, he was polite, made sure to ask if I had been in before, I said only once a while ago and he thanked me for coming back, something I just don't expect in most places that serve pho (no offense) and not that I've ever had bad service per say in any pho place but I think you get it.
He was on top of everything there, was never standing around doing nothing although I know that's an expectation having worked in a Thai place myself. I might not be painting the best picture here but I have to fucking be honest. Anyway, he had some great old school and new school jams on the radio, he even checked on me a couple of times! I've never had that happen before, guy was just super happy and totally made my day.
I eat pho very slowly (I have a process) it takes me like an hour or more sometimes and he was awesome to have around the whole time.
Now to the taste. Lucky's is not my favorite pho, I happened to be in Fremont because my fiance and I go out to eat like everyday and he wanted something else and I was just to fucked up to not eat pho lol. So I figured I had it once and liked it pretty ok and there really aren't many options for the area. We live in Ballard and my favorite place is actually located there awesomely for me.
I got a large rare beef and brisket add veggies. I was super out of it so I didn't quite get exactly what I wanted (my fault of course) I would've said no to the brisket cuz it's super beefy and just not the greatest flavor and I would've said don't add cabbage because I feel like any time you add cabbage to a dish that's all you can taste and I'm just not a fan. The broth is probably the most meaty beefy broth I've ever had in a pho which is pretty cool but when you add in the super beefy brisket it's just too much for me. That said I know exactly how I'll order it next time, and I will be back if only to be served by the same guy again. Oh side note, I love that you can tailor your condiment's (they have them out buffet style) which in terms of germs I'm not a fan of but when I get pho I squeeze like an entire lime or more in my broth and I could care less about been sprouts and Thai basil because I think it tastes like black licorice. Also the restaurant I worked at would fucking save Thai basil off of people's tables and plates that weren't used because it was "expensive" so that's all I think of any time I see it on my plate which gives me the heebies.
So go here if you want awesome service and super beefy broth! All of the staff was actually really friendly and smiley and says thank you as anyone walks out the door. I like that! read more
