    Crawfish Etouffee- mediocre
    Najwa G.

Lowerline...to be honest I'm not 100% sure why it has all these rave reviews. Like, at all. First, this place isn't cozy, it's cramped. Second, everything's just...sticky? At least at the bar. Didn't realize Lowerline was moonlighting as a dive bar. Third, the food & drinks were mid at best. I had the crawfish etouffee & it lacked flavor & was just...not good at all. I had to coat it in hot sauce but it still was mediocre. As for drinks I had the original hurricane which was good but I've had better. The only reason I'm giving two stars versus one is that the bartender was really nice but I wouldn't return back & again, genuinely don't know what the hype is about.

My friend and I went to dinner on a Friday night and it was packed! We had to put our name on the wait list and come back about 25 minutes later. I ordered a makeshift margarita and half of a shrimp po boy. The margarita was WAY too strong and had to add lemon juice so I could drink it (slowly). The shrimp po boy was pretty good overall. My friend had the shrimp and really enjoyed it. The server was also attentive. The atmosphere was very cozy and be warned, the tables are VERY close together.

Finally I made it, and it was worth every bite. Everything was so delicious, and fresh. Service on point and friendly and informative. Felt like I was eating with friends and family. Ambiance small and quaint but with the food it was like being at home. Hopefully I can make it there again and try more home cooking

I hhaven't been heree in a while, and my coworker and I were excited to hang for the new year. We called first, told it wasn't busy and to come in. A fifteen minute drive changes things quickly, lol. There was a bit of a wait (20-30 min) and confusion, but they worked it out. The space is tiny so be prepared to sit wherever a seat is available. They were definitely slammed with orders (in-house & takeout) so the food took a bit over 45min to receive. So..... did it arrive hot & accurate? No. But, was it still tasty? Mostly. They have definitely changed the bread and spread for the PoBoys. The shrimp were still juicy and amazing. Crawfish etoufee is one of my favorite dishes ever, so I alway get its when I have the chance. Here, its tastes pretty good, its just sad ordering delivery from here yields a larger serving by far. The panda cotta at the end is always a delicious finish, but we left hungry (my friend took another full size etoufee to go). I'll still snag delivery, or pop in for lunch when it's less crowded for ambiance though.

    gumbo (half)

Popped in on an early Saturday evening around 6 pm and was able to be seated immediately for two. Was coming off of a day at the park and had this spot bookmarked. Not sure if it's new but I am on this street often and had never noticed it before. Ordered the shrimp poboy, half gumbo, and fries. It was the perfect amount of food for two without it sitting too heavy in my stomach (and having room for dessert down the street). The food was healing given how tired we were. I'd come back again to try the oysters if I'm in the area. It's quick service as well!

This small and cozy restaurant serves some of the more authentic Cajun food found in NYC. I was left fairly impressed, but not necessarily wowed after my visit here. The menu is classically creole/cajun, with red beans and rice, etoufee, and po boys among the selection. Overall, I thought the food was solid, especially the Gumbo. The Po Boy featured great bread and could also be mistaken for one of the you'd find in the big easy. I thought the etoufee, while it clearly had a great roux, was missing something. Solid, but not quite up to standard like the rest. The vibes here are great and the drinks are stiff. I do recommend visiting this spot if you're like me and miss the quality food from New Orleans.

My friend and I were looking for a fresh place to try and Lowerline looked like the perfect little spot in the area. We were excited for the Cajun flavours and feel. When we entered on a winters night, it felt like a dry sauna in this tiny establishment that fit approximately 6 at the bar and had 4 two seat tables otherwise. The waitress was quick with water, but her demeanor gave off stress and annoyance, but she was courteous in interactions. I went with the Hurricane drink and my friend the Martini -- both very boozy, but good. I had a full gumbo, and she the Etouffe. I'm not sure if it's just every one I've had, but it is just an underwhelming salty water mess with bits of meat scattered throughout - a few shrimp, half a crab, and some slices of Andouille sausage in a pool of brackish brown soup. The Etouffe was a bit better, but the portion was small. Overall, the fare was fine, but the discomfort of the heat and the vibe given off by the stressed staff doesn't warrant another visit from us.

Was craving something comforting to eat on a rainy, chilly night and thought of Lowerline. The space is pretty small/intimate, but they're efficient with seating and prompt. Was able to snag a bar seat and had a full view of the kitchen staff cooking and the owner himself shucking oysters and bartending. Very friendly staff and patrons, great food and hit the spot! Would've loved to order a po boy as well, but didn't want to over do it. Next time!

A small, charming restaurant with attractive food options. Kind and attentive service the entire time. Food tastes very clean and simple. However, when I want southern cuisine, I'm looking for the bold, loud flavors that make it special, and this menu doesn't hit those notes. I asked for tartar sauce, which they didn't have, so my waitress sent out a tasty alternative. I forget its name--but I'd suggest that for anyone also looking for a flavor upgrade.

Ok, so here's the thing...I've been to New Orleans three times and I cook gumbo rather superbly...so keep this is mind. I want to give the overall experience a 3.5 BECAUSE of my heavy experience in the creole culinary arts. Husband had the gumbo, which was aiight because I prefer my roux THICK. flavor was finnnnnnneee, but again...you're hearing from a New Orleans visitor and gumbo maker. NOW - the highlight of the dinner was the assortment of fried goodness - shrimp, oysters and catfish. THEY KNOW HOW TO FRY SOME FOOD! ok?!!! and the complimentary panacotta was a sweet touch. Lastly, my shrimp po' boy was pretty good, too. But they played us with the size of it cus a "small" in American should never literally be small. a small in American is a medium and half...get it together. Would I return? yeah, probably. OH! and the service was fantastic! The place is super tiny, but they were sweet enough to call us when a table was ready. loved that.

The Coffee panna cotta was the star of this meal, it was excellent with the right sweetness ratio. I wanted to love this place as my roots are in Louisiana but unfortunately both the PoBoy and Red Beans and rice was lacking in flavor. Crystal hot sauce cannot add flavor, only heat. +1 for having crystal hot sauce, +2 for the panna cotta.

Food was great. Our Server David was great too. Ambiance is nice. Tasteful small nice spot.

    The gumbo and fried shrimp

It was fine. It's a small menu, So it's easy to pick something. A guy who seemed like the owner or in charge didn't greeet me and I was the only person in the whole restaurant, that felt weird. But anyway, the gumbo was fine and the shrimp were fine too. The space is small, so it wouldn't be ideal for a large group. If you are looking for a lil NOLA it may do the trick.

It made such a strong impression on my friend that she demanded we eat at this restaurant. The restaurant was packed, but we managed to get a spot at the bar and watch the Mets game. The food was immaculate, and we ordered the Hot Crab Dip, Garlic Biscuits, and I ordered "The Connecticut." All of this arrived in no time, and we will be returning soon, this time with a reservation. Hehehe.

It's got a solid, nautical feel that gives you enough brass and wood to feel like a real lobster shack. They've got a generous stretch of outdoor seating for when the weather is nice, and inside, the music sits at a good volume. Then comes the food. I started with the clam chowder. It's good ...comforting, rich, well-made ......even if it's a little light on the minced clams. I caught myself digging around with my spoon, searching for a few more chunks of clam in the creamy broth, but I forgave it because the flavor was fantastic. Main event: the Maine lobster roll. Now look, I've eaten lobster rolls all over the Northeast..and a few other places. When you order a lobster roll, you're looking for flavor and simplicity. Red Hook's roll is good. The lobster is fresh. But here's the thing: at an overall tab running around $80 a head, you expect a top-tier entry into the culinary lobster roll pantheon. Instead, it lands on the smaller side of the spectrum. Worse, the kitchen holds back on the seasoning. Lobster is sweet and rich, sure, but it needs a little help...... a hint of herbs, or just a generous hand with the salt/pepper to elevate it from good to great. It's a good roll, but when the check landed, I couldn't help feeling a bit let down. To finish, I looked at the dessert choices. Options were slim, but I ordered the flourless chocolate cake and it did the job. I'll definitely give this place a second visit and possibly try some of the other items on their menu. Every dish was incredibly unique, featuring exquisite flavors that truly "dance" on the palate. Squid (5/5): Cooked to absolute perfection, it was bouncy, chewy, and paired with a sauce that tied everything together beautifully. Steaklette (4.75/5): A fantastic dish. The sauce was once again the highlight, and it paired perfectly with the potatoes. I told our server this when she asked if it was our first time dining here and she found it similarly puzzling. That said, this sentiment is one rarely expressed these days, as Saint Julivert's longevity puts it in what I'd imagine to be an exclusive, highly coveted class of restaurants that have stood the test of time in the face of changing trends, the pandemic, rent, etc. And perhaps more importantly, it has stood the test of time *and* maintained its high level of execution and quality. Saint Julivert is a neighborhood spot as memorable as it is unassuming. We came here at around 7:30pm on a Saturday night. I live quite far from Saint Julivert which is the main reason I hadn't gotten here before this past weekend. Luckily, a friend who recently moved to the area was having a party, describing the offered fare as "drinks and light bites" -- code for "not sufficient for dinner" and an opportunity to find a fun restaurant nearby to try beforehand. Walking up to Saint Julivert was a bit of a thrill for me -- both because of how long it's been on my radar and also because it's nestled on a block that otherwise seems completely residential. The space itself is much smaller than I imagined, very cozy, friendly, and down to earth. We had, in my opinion, one of the best seats in the house, which was a pair of high tops by the kitchen with loads of space for folks (read: us) who like to order a bunch of smaller plates to share. To start, we got a round of cocktails. I had to go with the Kanpai Martini (vodka, gin, shochu, cap corse, guindilla), as I pretty much always start with the martini if one is featured on the cocktail menu, and my partner got the Puerto Escondido (mezcal, beet, grapefruit, jalapeño) which is a super tasty spicy mezcal marg variation. I then tried the Diamond District (mezcal, persimmon liqueur, cocchi americano) which is a variation of one of my other go-to drinks, a white mezcal negroni. No complaints here. Food-wise, we obviously leaned into the seafood here heavily. Tried to sample as much variety as possible and I'd say we did a pretty impressive job. We weren't able to finish everything but we tried our very best. Truly everything was exceptional so my usual letter grades aren't all that necessary because it was As across the board. Eats, below: Amberjack w/ tomato water, crispy shallot, shiso oil Ideal first dish, definitely had some amuse bouche qualities, being both light and bright. The fish was incredibly fresh and the concept overall with sophisticated with use of texture and flavor that was impressive in its subtlety and execution. Chicory Salad w/ blue cheese, walnut, persimmon, coffee cider vinaigrette Our one veggie of the night and it was well worth our while, fresh winter greens with that tried and true blue cheese/walnut combo made unique by the coffee cider vinaigrette which emphasized the sweet and earthy notes of the dish and brought everything together beauitfully. Wild Shrimp w/ salted kumquat, poblano pepper, pomelo If I had to give an award to most unique of the night, it would have to go to this dish. I've had a dizzying amount of seafood over the years and I've been lucky enough try to a lot of different types of things in a lot of different types of ways and this one stands out. Something about the flavor and texture of the mostly-raw shrimp with the delicate and aromatic citrus elements. Just impossibly fresh, bright, and delicious. Octopus w/ pipián verde, roasted tomatillo juice, cucumber, serrano A preparation I'm used to seeing served warm but I enjoyed it cold just the same. The overall flavor profile was predictable but the elements contributing to it were less so. The green mole was delicious and overall this dish was a perfect bridge between the lighter and the richer, a segue so perfect it was as if it was divinely ordained. Squid a la Plancha w/ pine nut, maitake mushroom, tinta, poblano The first of two warm dishes we ordered. A nice complement to some of the lighter dishes we had earlier in the meal that were more aromatic/vegetal/gardenia vibes, this dish was earthier, more umami and grounding. Jerked Hamachi Collar w/ mango-pickle mayo, lime Hard to finish with this because it was probably the richest of the dishes and we were already somewhat full by this point, but I ate as much as I could because it was just that good. The mango-pickle mayo was just sublime, the fish was perfectly cooked and seasoned beautifully -- altogether a playful and powerful way to end the meal.

It was the $252.86 plus a TIP of $45.20! I immediately returned to discuss the discrepancies. The tip that was supposed to be $38 was now $45.20! The waitress then said she would credit my account. My question was how did this happen! All three waitresses stated it was not them and that the machine did this! How was this possible? Not one of them took responsibility for the discrepancies! Had I not looked at my bank statement then I would never have known that I would be tipping her twice! I then decided to leave to explain to my mom! Then the short Indian (I think) than sarcastically stated "Oh so now you're not going to tip us" Really! I drove 10 blocks and I NEVER ONCE STATED THAT I WAS NOT GOING TO TIP HER! I merely was going to let my mom know what happened and then TIP her! Note* I was going to give her a $100 cash TIP! Had she given me the REAL receipt with the $45 TIP then I would have given her $50 CASH but since she only produced the REAL receipt after I came back (how ironic) and told her she charged the wrong amount, she would have received $100 TIP. If you're planning on eating here, bring your appetite and definitely consider the Rana's Table. Being able to try so many options all at once was a fun and unique experience. Service was good. Multiple staff checked in and took care of us.

It's great for large parties with chill vibes that really make you feel like you're at a beach. Happy hour is from 3-6pm on weekdays and we got lucky coming here during that time. The husband enjoyed a nice, cold beer for $6 while I got the Peel N Eat Shrimp for only $10 on the HH menu. While the shrimp are on the skinny side, they were a good deal and got me pretty full. Definitely added some extra Old Bay seasoning on the shrimps. In addition, we ordered the Mac and Cheese ($12) and BKC Burger ($21) with Bacon (+$2). The Mac and cheese here are so cheesy and delicious, definitely a favorite as well. Such a great spot to hang out and enjoy some drinks and seafood. Even for my husband who doesn't eat seafood had a few options luckily. The servers were also very friendly and great vibes all around.

Regardless of the volume the outside bar had quick service on the drinks while we waited to be called for a table. It took about 1.5 hours for our table to be ready. Once seated the staff came to take our orders quick as this was a no nonsense day for them with every table full. We decided to on the Cajun seafood boil for 2 which was split between 4 people -- definitely enough food. The CRAB was out of this world some of the best dungeness crab I ever tasted. Lobster on point. I definately went to crustacean heaven. The price is hefty tho at 195. We also got the ahi tuna nachos which was a nice app and the lobster Mac and cheese. Definately coming back.

We were able to get a reservation here for 530 on a Saturday night. The restaurant was very busy. I…read morereally liked the layout with the green tables and booths. The long mirrors on the walls made the space feel bigger and taller as well. First and foremost, I'm giving this place a 5 for the service as they really went above and beyond. It was not the occasional stop by to refill water and grab dirty plates. Our waiter provided great recommendations and offered me a small sample of a wine I had heard him recommend to another table after I had already ordered my orange wine. In terms of food, the bluefin tuna special was very fresh. We enjoyed the hush puppies and the swordfish belly. The fry basket had thin rectangularly shaped fries which were amazing. The only thing is I wish it came with more than two pieces of shrimp and two pieces of fish. The chargrilled oysters were also very good. Lastly they offered free bread pudding which was a perfect way to end the night.

Smoked trout dip was 100% best thing on the table - the house crackers are SO SMOKY and good The brown butter carpaccio good The chayote salad also good I was confused by the rolls with butter side description.... Was so expecting warm fluffy parker house rolls tis dry bread The swordfish belly is the meatiest non-meat thing i have ever eaten. As a pescatarian who loves fake meat i cannot lie it kind of freaked me out idk maybe i just dont like the taste but it was veryy strong and almost. Gamy? Metallic? Idk not for me I would go back if someone invited me but idk if i wld seek it out and suggest it on my own. Altho idk why but i can see this as a place i randomly think of and want to try again in like 4 months. Idk
