Okay so I came here on the first 80 degree day of the season for the afternoon so when I say it was BUSY it was BUSY!! Regardless of the volume the outside bar had quick service on the drinks while we waited to be called for a table. It took about 1.5 hours for our table to be ready. Once seated the staff came to take our orders quick as this was a no nonsense day for them with every table full. We decided to on the Cajun seafood boil for 2 which was split between 4 people -- definitely enough food. The CRAB was out of this world some of the best dungeness crab I ever tasted. Lobster on point. I definately went to crustacean heaven. The price is hefty tho at 195. We also got the ahi tuna nachos which was a nice app and the lobster Mac and cheese. On arguably the coldest day of the year a few weeks ago on Super Bowl Sunday, your girl made a trek only a few crazy people would. Tucked in the quiet end of Red Hook right by the water, is Brooklyn Crab - a lively, coastal shanty themed restaurant serving up some seafood favorites... but on a cold day in early February the abandoned and frozen tiki bar downstairs and the residue of snow salt on the staircase leading to the restaurant only served as a faint reminder of brighter, sunny days that await us this summer in New York. I plopped myself on the bar seating as cold gushes of air swept in with the opening door. The heating was struggling but so were we - it really was just that cold. However dire these conditions were, I was here for my weekly ritual - two dozen oysters on the half shell. Trish the bartender was a great sport. We chit chatted about the weather and her California upbringing and everything in between. She was great company and a delight to talk to. When the oyster platter arrived I was met with instant joy. Nicely sized oysters, neatly shucked, briny and beautiful with the accompaniments I like. A cold glass of beer I had been slowly working on in the background. They only have the $1 Sunday oyster happy hour during the winter months. Staff simply can't keep up with the shucking when it's busier. I deeply enjoyed this meal as the sun shined in the glass enclosure and it started to warm up. Far away I could see the waves crashing on the dock, as I guzzled down the ocean's perfect food. I also ordered the peel and eat shrimp and they were very good. Nicely seasoned, with ample amount of lemon wedges to make this meal truly one of a kind. This is one of the best oyster happy hours in Brooklyn, and even though I am traveling away from home right now, I can't wait to return and bask in this sunlit bar one last time this winter. I have passed by Brooklyn Crab multiple times, and it is always super busy. Well, not so much in the winter! I am much more of a foodie person than vibes (though vibes are also important) but if you come at off peak and off season (i.e. middle of day in the winter), it is not so busy and you can take advantage of their great happy hour deals. We got a little of the happy hour oysters and some appetizers but also got a burger (not on happy hour list). The oysters were great - super fresh, not fishy. Really refreshing. The fries and the burger were also really good. And the shrimp was soo flavorful. I think if we were to come again, would skip the wings - they were ok, though the service was really nice and allowed us to try two flavors (gave us separate sauces) - maybe if we had done just one flavor and let them sauce them themselves it would have been better? The frozen marg was strong and yummy. Fish and chips was fresh with properly crispy breading but flavor-wise nothing to write home about. Great spot for a summer hang with a group of friends! We came here for a friend's birthday, and he ordered a couple different platters for us. We got to try the crab roll, lobster roll, lobster grilled cheese, and popcorn shrimp. My favorite was surprisingly the shrimp! I love that they seasoned the batter - they were so easy to eat. We also tried the smashburger and the ahi tuna nachos. It says that the nachos are a starter, but the portion was so big! The wonton chips were a nice touch. They have cornhole in the front and some arcade games inside. This is definitely a family-friendly place. Only con is that it's so hard to get to, so I don't think I would come here that often. We rode our bikes to Red Hook and stopped in at Noon on a Saturday in late September. Typically, in the summer, the place is packed but now that the season is over, it was quiet. Service was great! I ended up dumping a bunch of Old Bay on mine for more seasoning. This is a great spot to escape the concrete jungle that is NYC. I didn't have a good experience at Brooklyn Crab yesterday and my husband and I have been coming for years. I called four times yesterday before we arrived to make sure they were open and confirm our guest count. No answer. Originally I had made a reservation for 5 of us (3 adults, 2 children). When we arrived, half of the restaurant was closed and only the bar area was available. Of course we did not want to have children sitting at bar tables! It was my godson's birthday and he loves seafood so we wanted him to try it. Unfortunately, I had my cousin take the 4 year old home because it just really wasn't appropriate. Then, we get the food nothing was hot. Butter was half solidified. The dungeness portion of the seafood pot tasted stale, the meat was kind of hard and old tasting. The snow crabs were also kind of gray like it had been sitting in some sort of liquid all day. I was truly disappointed after recommending this restaurant for a birthday dinner. I kept seeing the front of Brooklyn Crab whenever I shopped at Food Bazaar and thought "that place looks fun" and finally decided to go on a Sunday afternoon. Sunday Happy hour (and any time they have Happy Hour) is so worth it. Don't let the ahi tuna nachos deceive you - that's a whole frickin meal. I also got fish and chips (no photo because I attacked it before remembering to take one) and that was so much food. We sat at the bar and our bartender was the sweetest human. Come here for the atmosphere above all else - the location deep in Red Hook makes you feel like you're not even in NYC, and the ocean views are amazing, especially at sunset. Just don't expect to have your mind blown by the food itself. Very mediocre, it was like eating at an Applebee's for seafood restaurants. And they definitely charge NYC prices, even all the way out in Red Hook. My husband and I went to Brooklyn crab last Saturday early afternoon.There was a live DJ and the vibe was palpable. It felt like a combination of montauk meets Costa Rica beach feel! There are 2 bars on the ground floor and even free small mini golf course to hang out by or if you are waiting for a seat. It was a nice combination of kids/families and young adults 20s-30s on the scene. Drinks were very good I got a blood orange Paloma and we shared the seafood nachos. I love spicy food but they drowned the whole dish in too much spicy aoli. We would definitely go back for the vibe not the food. It felt like comfort seafood dishes with NYC prices. We had lunch at BC yesterday,and as always, the food, service and vibe were amazing. The cocktails never disappoint, we felt like we were on a micro vacation. There were some new items added that I wanted to try like the scallops and octopus apps and they were delicious. Great new additions! Of course the shrimp in garlic sauce was delish as usual, as well as the mussels. We also had the deviled eggs which are the best because they have the most yummy little grilled shrimp topping them off, and my husband devoured his Blue Crab roll. Zay was our server, and he was a sweetheart! It's so nice to see a wait staff that enjoy their job which is the vibe we always get when we eat here. Of course that comes from the top. The place was so busy in every nook and cranny. We even checked the backyard and it was packed! Yet, the service never suffers. Just don't go if you're looking for the best quality seafood - honestly Astoria is still New York's best and most affordable. My review is for just the items we tasted, I can't speak to the rest but I feel like it's going to be along the same lines - overpriced and just ok. The vibe here is good, it feels like you are on the jersey shore and that the beach is nearby. Drinks are a little overpriced - $15 for a frozen drink that comes out of a machine. I had the coconut mojito which was standard but good (still can get better for cheaper) We had the "jumbo" lump crab roll and shrimp basket. Both priced at a whopping $26 and geez for that price they gave us barely anything. The roll was served w a side pickle and lays potato chips that I can get at the bodega for a dollar. The crab meat filling (see pic this is untouched and I took the pic bc I was shocked that the roll was not filled) it was barely 2oz of shredded (and looked like canned!!!) crab meat. I've had fresh Maryland crab before and I know what LUMP crab is supposed to look like and taste. This is NOT what I expected for $26. If you come here, do not order this. The shrimp basket comes on a plate not a basket and was like 6 pieces of small Shrimpies that could have come from a frozen bag. I rarely write poor reviews. I only write reviews for places I want people to know is good but I had to do it for this because I will not be coming back and want to warn people of the ridiculous prices. I read reviews before coming and I thought let me try it and give it a chance. Nope, trust those reviews (google and yelp combined). Don't bother, just come here for drinks or appetizers or if you plan on getting the full feast maybe? But just know the bill is gonna be killer. I would rather just go to the boil... I really like the Brooklyn Crab- but there's some things you should know before visiting during peak season (summer). Before I continue I want to add some context, I've been here many times before and during all seasons, from the dead of winter for a sit down dinner, to day drinking on a hot Saturday in summer and everything in between. This past Saturday I visited with my boyfriend for a round or two of drinks. The atmosphere was LIVELY. They had a DJ and a MC blasting music at the outdoor bar on the first level. They also closed down the street to foot traffic to put some drinking games in the street which was fun. Beware of pricing here- this is not one of those bars where it's realistic to party at unless money doesn't matter. We got two rounds of cocktails here and both rounds were $40+ each for their frozen pre mixed cocktails, that's INSANE. They were very good and strong but I have a hard time swallowing 20 bucks for a cocktail that's served to me in a plastic cup. If you are looking for a lively atmosphere to party at during summer- The Brooklyn Crab is your destination in red hook. Just beware of the pricing- I would recommend to pregame if having a buzz is your goal otherwise you may wind up in debt after running up a tab here lol read more

So coming here was a bit of a mistake on our part. At lunchtime, My friend and I came to enjoy the kitschy atmosphere by the water after a pretty late breakfast at Barney Greengrass. Well after bagel sandwiches, neither of us really had much of an appetite to be wolfing down seafood, so we ordered on the light side. $26 1/2 Dozen Snow Claws w/ citrus aioli and lemon: I don't even know what is considered expensive anymore, because everything is expensive. Nevertheless, $26 for 6 chilled crab claws is still $4.33 per claw, and they're likely to have been boiled and chilled on ice, not cooked any particularly special way. It was still enjoyable to eat cold seafood on the rooftop dining room overlooking the water with the warm breeze washing over us. $5 Corn w/ warm butter: I ordered corn thinking it would be a great accompaniment to the crab. 3 ears of corn for $5 is not a bad price. It seems like the fun and relaxing atmosphere is the main star of the show here, especially with the mini golf, corn hole, and picnic tables right by the water. read more
