Visited here at the tail end of summer and my friends and I sat at the highest vantage point with a beautiful view of the river. Our server was very attentive and I enjoyed the ambiance. As a South Floridian native, it reminded me a lot of some areas I'd seen growing up. Football season started, and it got surprisingly pretty lively, considering the area. My friends started with the Spicy Ahi Tuna Nachos and devoured them. Then we got the P.E.I Mussels, the Lobster Mac & Cheese, and Grilled Octopus Salad. The lobster mac & cheese was creamy and comforting. The sauce carried a lot of lobster flavor, and they definitely didn't skimp out on the lobster. The grilled octopus salad had a distinct vinegar taste that contrasted with the feta very nicely. The octopus was firm, with some crispy tiny tentacles mixed in. I didn't try the mussels, but my friend enjoyed them, so I imagine they're as expected. I'm lovin' the beachy vibes here at Brooklyn Crab, especially if you make it here for their happy hour deals. The space is pretty big with two floors and various seating options. It's great for large parties with chill vibes that really make you feel like you're at a beach. Happy hour is from 3-6pm on weekdays and we got lucky coming here during that time. The husband enjoyed a nice, cold beer for $6 while I got the Peel N Eat Shrimp for only $10 on the HH menu. While the shrimp are on the skinny side, they were a good deal and got me pretty full. Definitely added some extra Old Bay seasoning on the shrimps. In addition, we ordered the Mac and Cheese ($12) and BKC Burger ($21) with Bacon (+$2). Okay so I came here on the first 80 degree day of the season for the afternoon so when I say it was BUSY it was BUSY!! Regardless of the volume the outside bar had quick service on the drinks while we waited to be called for a table. It took about 1.5 hours for our table to be ready. Once seated the staff came to take our orders quick as this was a no nonsense day for them with every table full. We decided to on the Cajun seafood boil for 2 which was split between 4 people -- definitely enough food. The CRAB was out of this world some of the best dungeness crab I ever tasted. So I don't really hang out in Red Hook like that but I decided to try something new and go for a little excursion. I should start seeing more of my city, right? So I was hanging out at a record shop and everybody was like "you need happy hour oysters! happy hour oysters! happy hour!" Came here for a work outing and was seated on the second floor (had a shaded cover). We got a couple of appetizers to share, including the ahi tuna nachos, watermelon salad (delicious), caprese salad, popcorn shrimp and calamari. For my main, I got the crab cakes which were excellent! Not too fishy and the remoulade that came with it was very flavorful! Would recommend to come here with a group. Even with a large group (around 10 people) service was prompt and friendly. The ceviche was so tasty and bright for a crazy hot 4th of July. Blue roll was packed with crab and such a great roll overall. The bar was filled but everyone was taken care of. On arguably the coldest day of the year a few weeks ago on Super Bowl Sunday, your girl made a trek only a few crazy people would. Tucked in the quiet end of Red Hook right by the water, is Brooklyn Crab - a lively, coastal shanty themed restaurant serving up some seafood favorites... but on a cold day in early February the abandoned and frozen tiki bar downstairs and the residue of snow salt on the staircase leading to the restaurant only served as a faint reminder of brighter, sunny days that await us this summer in New York. I plopped myself on the bar seating as cold gushes of air swept in with the opening door. The heating was struggling but so were we - it really was just that cold. However dire these conditions were, I was here for my weekly ritual - two dozen oysters on the half shell. Trish the bartender was a great sport. We chit chatted about the weather and her California upbringing and everything in between. She was great company and a delight to talk to. When the oyster platter arrived I was met with instant joy. Nicely sized oysters, neatly shucked, briny and beautiful with the accompaniments I like. A cold glass of beer I had been slowly working on in the background. They only have the $1 Sunday oyster happy hour during the winter months. Staff simply can't keep up with the shucking when it's busier. I deeply enjoyed this meal as the sun shined in the glass enclosure and it started to warm up. Far away I could see the waves crashing on the dock, as I guzzled down the ocean's perfect food. I also ordered the peel and eat shrimp and they were very good. Nicely seasoned, with ample amount of lemon wedges to make this meal truly one of a kind. This is one of the best oyster happy hours in Brooklyn, and even though I am traveling away from home right now, I can't wait to return and bask in this sunlit bar one last time this winter. I have passed by Brooklyn Crab multiple times, and it is always super busy. Well, not so much in the winter! I am much more of a foodie person than vibes (though vibes are also important) but if you come at off peak and off season (i.e. middle of day in the winter), it is not so busy and you can take advantage of their great happy hour deals. We got a little of the happy hour oysters and some appetizers but also got a burger (not on happy hour list). The oysters were great - super fresh, not fishy. Really refreshing. The fries and the burger were also really good. And the shrimp was soo flavorful. I think if we were to come again, would skip the wings - they were ok, though the service was really nice and allowed us to try two flavors (gave us separate sauces) - maybe if we had done just one flavor and let them sauce them themselves it would have been better? Great spot for a summer hang with a group of friends! We came here for a friend's birthday, and he ordered a couple different platters for us. We got to try the crab roll, lobster roll, lobster grilled cheese, and popcorn shrimp. My favorite was surprisingly the shrimp! I love that they seasoned the batter - they were so easy to eat. We also tried the smashburger and the ahi tuna nachos. It says that the nachos are a starter, but the portion was so big! The wonton chips were a nice touch. We rode our bikes to Red Hook and stopped in at Noon on a Saturday in late September. Typically, in the summer, the place is packed but now that the season is over, it was quiet. Service was great! Lots of staff. We ordered a lobster and fish and chips. Messy! But good lobster. Fish order was small and the French fries they came with were average. I didn't have a good experience at Brooklyn Crab yesterday and my husband and I have been coming for years. I called four times yesterday before we arrived to make sure they were open and confirm our guest count. No answer. Originally I had made a reservation for 5 of us (3 adults, 2 children). When we arrived, half of the restaurant was closed and only the bar area was available. Of course we did not want to have children sitting at bar tables! It was my godson's birthday and he loves seafood so we wanted him to try it. Unfortunately, I had my cousin take the 4 year old home because it just really wasn't appropriate. Then, we get the food nothing was hot. Butter was half solidified. The dungeness portion of the seafood pot tasted stale, the meat was kind of hard and old tasting. The snow crabs were also kind of gray like it had been sitting in some sort of liquid all day. I was truly disappointed after recommending this restaurant for a birthday dinner. Come here for the atmosphere above all else - the location deep in Red Hook makes you feel like you're not even in NYC, and the ocean views are amazing, especially at sunset. Just don't expect to have your mind blown by the food itself. Very mediocre, it was like eating at an Applebee's for seafood restaurants. And they definitely charge NYC prices, even all the way out in Red Hook. So we have seen Brooklyn Crab for years while shopping at fairway/Food Bazaar yet never ventured inside.3 levels of bars and tables with good views of the water and Lady Liberty. We ordered Snowcrab roll, Crawfish roll, PEI mussels and truffle fries. My husband and I went to Brooklyn crab last Saturday early afternoon.There was a live DJ and the vibe was palpable. It felt like a combination of montauk meets Costa Rica beach feel! There are 2 bars on the ground floor and even free small mini golf course to hang out by or if you are waiting for a seat. It was a nice combination of kids/families and young adults 20s-30s on the scene. Drinks were very good I got a blood orange Paloma and we shared the seafood nachos. Just don't go if you're looking for the best quality seafood - honestly Astoria is still New York's best and most affordable. My review is for just the items we tasted, I can't speak to the rest but I feel like it's going to be along the same lines - overpriced and just ok. The vibe here is good, it feels like you are on the jersey shore and that the beach is nearby. Drinks are a little overpriced - $15 for a frozen drink that comes out of a machine. I had the coconut mojito which was standard but good (still can get better for cheaper) We had the "jumbo" lump crab roll and shrimp basket. Both priced at a whopping $26 and geez for that price they gave us barely anything. The roll was served w a side pickle and lays potato chips that I can get at the bodega for a dollar. The crab meat filling (see pic this is untouched and I took the pic bc I was shocked that the roll was not filled) it was barely 2oz of shredded (and looked like canned!!!) crab meat. I've had fresh Maryland crab before and I know what LUMP crab is supposed to look like and taste. This is NOT what I expected for $26. If you come here, do not order this. The shrimp basket comes on a plate not a basket and was like 6 pieces of small Shrimpies that could have come from a frozen bag. I rarely write poor reviews. I only write reviews for places I want people to know is good but I had to do it for this because I will not be coming back and want to warn people of the ridiculous prices. I read reviews before coming and I thought let me try it and give it a chance. Nope, trust those reviews (google and yelp combined).
