Finally tried this place after biking past so many times over the years, and after one missed reservation. We walked in and sat at the front bar on a Tuesday evening. We ordered strawberry cocktails and enjoyed the romantic sunset behind the cityscape. Love the yellow and white striped canopies over the tables. The fries with sage aioli and spiced ketchup were a bit too salty but perfectly fried and crispy. It was a complementary pairing with the watermelon tomato salad with shiso. Had to taste the chocolate gateau made for two garnished with rum-pumped raisins and served with three small scoops of ice cream. Honestly, I wish the proportions of ice cream were in line with the cake. Could've used several more perfect bites. Anyway, the bar seating was decent, we had to move once because they seated us near the silverware rollers which was pretty noisy and also blocking our view. We had asked to be seated at the 10+ empty tables but they said none were available and by the time we had left, those tables were still empty. I took myself for a date to this incredible restaurant last weekend. The best part about eating solo is not having to share. Is that the worst part? Either way, I enjoyed every single bite. Even though I didn't have a reservation. ,they were kind enough to accomodate me at the perfect table with the most perfect view.. literally! All of the staff, from the hostess to the bartenders to the servers were all extremely friendly and hospitable. Food wise, I ordered the Polpette (Sirloin and brisket meatballs with tomato compote and basil garlic toast), Sea-Scallops (Seared dayboat-scallops with sweet-corn succotash and coriander emulsion) and also... the french fries. Of the three, the meatballs was certainly my favorite however each really held their own.. and yes, even the french fries! I washed it all down with a delicious ice-cold Sundae draft. Bringing a child to Pilot, a floating sailboat with cocktails and seafood, is the absolute height of bougie parenting. On second thought, the fact that I think that probably means I've never been near the true highs of bougie parenting. No matter. Sitting and sipping $18 cocktails with expansive views of the Manhattan skyline, with a summertime breeze to boot...it's nice. I like it. The seafood is good, the service is usually great, and although your bill is going to be higher than you might like, you're essentially paying for a vacation without having to leave Brooklyn. I've heard you can also go without your kid, but I don't get to do much without my kids these days. I enjoy this place for brunch very much, it's literally located on a boat so if aware if you can get seasick easily! Everything I got was amazing, the oysters were small but sweet and flavorful. The crudo sea beam was very appetizing and refreshing because of it's citrusy taste along with some herb and tomatillo. The hash browns was well cooked and just perfect and you can pair with the steelhead caviar, sour cream and pickled onions and transcend the flavor to the next level. The lobster roll was buttery and surprising with a generous amount of lobster! I added the leftover caviar on top of it and it's full of seafood umami flavor. Actually, breathtaking Pilot is one of several boat restaurants by the same hospitality group. I visited Grand Banks several years ago and really enjoyed my experience. With Pilot on my bucket list, I passed by last year and recalled the hostess strongly recommending a reservation as tables book quickly. No surprise there. Everyone wants in on this glorious experience. However, with the weather being unpredictable yesterday, we walked right in and landed a table. Our server, the lovely Alexa, informed us that many cancelations took place. The weather was just how I liked it--hot, humid, overcast and the true definition of a July summer day. Gradually, people started arriving and the capacity was nearly filled. The menu was mainly seafood with raw oysters taking the stage. There was a brunch and a lunch/dinner menu. Due to the time we arrived, we browsed the latter. Cocktail selections were interesting. When the Mariner didn't work for us, Alexa kindly replaced it with the IKO IKO which was refreshing and delicious. Recommend! We shared the Crudo as a starter, which at $20, should have been skipped in retrospect. Although it was good, it was not only too skimpy to share but just a teeny portion overall. For main, we both selected the Steelhead Trout. Even though it was Trout, it could easily be mistaken for Salmon. Upon being served, it included two delicate, crispy seared pieces on a crema sauce with three fingerling potatoes. Definitely enjoyed it. Definitely delicious and highly recommend. Other selections on the menu were salads and lobster roll, but happy I chose the Trout. It was executed very well and flavorful/healthy. I really enjoyed my lunch experience at Pilot. I pass by this boat every time I do my evening runnings at the Brooklyn Pier, so finally got the chance to take the boyfriend here. If you plan to dine, be sure to make reservations ahead of time. I was lucky and scored a day of resy at 8:30pm, which was prime time during the summer to witness the sky go from light to dark. I highly recommend it since you get two different vibes of the beautiful NY skyline. We arrived early for our reservations and were welcomed to grab a drink at the bar in the time being. Since the bar was packed, we got our drinks and sat at the end of the boat, which was perfect. Honestly, I'd suggest getting a drink and enjoying the view here instead of actually dining in as the food is very pricey and small. Soon enough, we were led to our table. We did have prime seating that was away from other and a perfect view of the skyline. For drinks, I had the Mariner ($17) and Get On Up ($17). The drinks was good as I really liked the refreshing flavor of elderflower and matcha in the Mariner. Since we were both a bit hungry, we got a small bite. I had the Lobster Roll ($32) and the boyfriend got the Polpette ($21). Both dishes were tiny and overpriced; would not get again. Not really impressed with the food, but the drinks and view makes this place worth checking out. It's not often you find a boat you can dine on. Overall rating: 4.5 I didn't have a problem with a service or small portions, but I probably won't be going back. I went on a Sunday around 1 and I deffff got sea sick. Pilot was like a dream throughout the entire experience. The atmosphere was wonderful, the company was delightful, and the food and drinks were delightful. I came here with my boyfriend in late June. He had made reservations a couple weeks beforehand, and when you make a reservation you put a $50 deposit down per person. This deposit goes toward your meal. It was the perfect evening and we watched the gorgeous sunset from the dock before being welcomed aboard. We were seated a little after our reservation time, but nothing too dramatic. We could tell the host was stressed, and didn't have anywhere to be, as this was the main event of the evening. Diners seated around us weren't completely happy because the oysters weren't coming out quickly, and you are only given 1.5 hours to dine and they are strict on that time limit when they have other parties after you. One table near us left without getting their oysters, because of the time limit. I thought that was pretty crappy, because it wasn't their fault that they didn't get their entire meal. It was hard to watch. Our guess was that someone quit mid-service that night, which is why there was such a delay in the shucking of oysters. We ordered the grand banks, which included 2 dozen oysters from various areas that we could try. We didn't get these oysters until after our entrees. We were fine with this, because you don't need much room for oysters, but it would have been better if they were served before dinner. The oysters were wonderful and we were both in heaven. My boyfriend ordered Iko Iko drink, which tasted very good. I had the Get on Up, which had elements of heat to it. I enjoyed it. For our appetizer we ordered the caviar hash brown. It was the first time I had caviar, and it was scrumptious. I like the popping in my mouth. Everything paired well together. I had the soft shell crab for my main meal, and my boyfriend had the steelhead. Both were amazing meals and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The bathrooms are in the back, and could have been a little cleaner. All in all this was a really fantastic experience and we enjoyed it. I would come back, but there are so many other places to try in NYC when visiting. I would definitely recommend making reservations and experiencing this though. Came to pilot on a Sunday evening to watch the sun set over the NYC skyline. The boat itself is so cute, and there are some great phot angled on the top and back of boat. I appreciated they could our party number change from 4 to 5 last minute. We ordered some mock tails and I got the Tropicana cocktail which was good but not very strong. The gin and champagne cocktail, forget the name, tasted exactly like a mimosa and I wasn't too impressed with it. We ordered the luster platter which was a sampler of all their different oysters for $70, and you get 2 dozen. Fiscally, it's the best bang for your buck and they were SO GOOD! Comes with a trio of sauces too and we were all pleased. Also got the fries- they taste like McDonald's fries but without the added grease and shame. The aoli for dipping was good but the ketchup kinda weird it has some additives. For $8 the portion isn't grand but hey it's NYC. We also got the ceviche which was an explosion of flavor. Loved it. The best part was our waitress- Jennifer maybe? She took pictures for us, was so sweet and knowledgeable on the menu and even managed to time the oysters to come out right when our last friend joined us after his work call- she knew he was on the pier and kept an eye out for when he was done and walking down. What a treat it is to walk down this stretch of the Pier to come upon Pilot, a gorgeous sailboat serving drinks and food that just reopened for the season. It was a very enjoyable experience. Although they limited our dining time to 2 hours we were able to enjoy our cocktails, oysters, appetizers, entrees & desserts without feeling rushed. When we arrived we were greeted on the dock by the host who walked us over to our oyster bar seating. There was plenty of space and we were nicely covered by a pretty yellow and white awning. The tables are covered by umbrellas which are definitely needed on sunny days. We started with a dozen Wellfleet oysters that were shucked right at the bar. They were perfectly prepared and chilled on ice. I mention the ice because it was very hot that day and they have a policy which requires you to order your entire meal upfront. I would have liked to enjoy my oysters first and then have the other dishes. However, I understand that it might have taken much longer than 2 hours had we not received all our food at once. I tried the Burrata salad which was served with pickled beets, and a few small pieces of crostata that were smeared with an olive tapenade. It would definitely recommend it. For entree I ordered the lobster roll which was surprisingly delicious. It totally exceeded my expectations. We had a side of fries which were crunchy and salty and very enjoyable with our rolls. I washed it down with a cocktail called Permanent Vacation. It was a nice summer drink that was made with rum, coconut, orange, pineapple and nutmeg. I'm not a big drinker so this was perfect. If you're a lush you might need six of these to get a buzz. But who needs the booze when the ambience is so intoxicating ?! This place is great for groups and couples but I wouldn't suggest bringing the kids. It's more of a date night spot. Great vibes and very chill. To my landlubbers, if you get sea sick or motion sick you might want to rethink having dinner on a moving vessel. Even though it's anchored you still feel the wake of the fast ferries that go by every 10 minutes. They aren't twenty foot waves but for those who can't stomach the movement, I wouldn't suggest dining here. It had also just rained so the boat did more swaying than I would have liked [see small-ish boat above]. There were a few minutes where I wasn't sure if we were going to be staying. The service was not the greatest- until we were ready to pay our bill, which arrived speedily and was taken care of speedily. We shared the Oysters Champagne, half dozen [$25]. The oysters were very fresh and the diced cucumber on top was refreshing. The ice that the oysters were laying on started to melt and drip on my friend. It took a while for someone to retrieve the platter. I had the Lobster Roll [$27] which was on the smaller side. The bun was tasty, as it seemed to have been toasted in butter. The lobster meat, too, was fresh but the filling was otherwise forgettable. The "salad" on the side were a few pieces of lettuce with maybe some dressing. We also shared an order of fries [$8] which were fine. They were not as crispy as I would have liked - perhaps they were taken out of the fryer a minute or two too soon. My glass of Paul Louis [$15] was delicious, alas.. The bill came out to around $159 but we ended up paying $54 each at the time. They charge you $25 when you make a reservation, which ends up being credited to your bill in the end. I can confidently say, I don't need to make a return trip. read more

Pilot, along with its sister bar, Grand Banks, are clearly popular places that require booking well in advance. At the time of booking, they also charge you $25 per person as a deposit, which will go towards the final cost of your bill. My friends got here a bit late, about 20 minutes after our reservation time. We ordered a dozen oysters to share, and each got one main dish. The food was nothing special. The wine was also sub-par. I had a rose which was served lukewarm. The service was friendly and attentive. They have a strict time limit on reservations and will warn you when it's time to go. This is a cute spot to have drinks in the early evening or on weekends, but would recommend going elsewhere for food. Bear in mind that the bar is on a boat, so it will be rocky. While none of us felt seasick, we did feel very shaky at the beginning, when we first got on. The ambience is the best thing about this place. In summer, there is not much that tops sitting in the sun and watching the Manhattan skyline with a drink in your hand. The boat itself is super cool and it's dog friendly which is great for my pup. We sat in the bow which was great for the views but people were constantly scooting in directly behind us to take photos. A bit distracting. The food was good but again, for the prices not spectacular there's better lobster rolls out there I think the weird kicker that led to the lower review was my partner who was feeling a bit sea sick asked if he could get a box for his lobster roll-- so as not to be wasteful but also so he could enjoy his meal and they said "sorry we don't have boxes." So you order a meal for $27 and you're not allowed to take it? It just goes in the trash. In this day and age that seems incredibly wasteful. Luckily there was some butcher paper on our fries so we were able to wrap the roll in that and take it. Pilot is a bit of a niche experience that was recommended to me by a coworker. A restaurant... on a boat on the Brooklyn pier? Count me in. The restaurant is exactly as advertised. You are literally on a boat. There's a bit of a limited menu, but enough seafood choices to satisfy most people. The highlight of the meal was the bar menu. They have a full bar, but a pretty long list of specialty cocktails that made you feel like you were on a cruise in warmer climates. The food was good and felt fresh- we split oysters from Canada, and although I don't have a frame of reference as someone who doesn't eat oysters (I felt like I had to, given the fact that I am literally on a boat) The only downside is that when you are on the boat, your experience is at the mercy of the seas. I finally decided to check out and dine on The infamous restaurant on a boat right after work. I work in Brooklyn on Wednesdays so I decided to take advantage of the opportunity before seasonal daylight savings time. First of all, the scenery is stunning as you will want to take photos of NYC skyline as you're sitting on a boat. The boat is stationary and doesn't move but if you're there on a water choppy night, it may not be comfortable for you. I usually don't get sea sick but the choppiness was rougher. Frederick, my server was gracious to get me a ginger beer on the house. Also if you dine in the evening In September, take a sweater. It may get chilly. I ordered the trout caviar on hash browns which was scrumptious. Also you need a reservation at Pilot and they take $25 on hold during reservation. But the $25 is deducted off your bill. read more

Came here for dinner on a bit of a dreary Saturday evening. A little rain and wind wasn't going to stop me from dining here... I had heard nothing but good things and was dying to try it. As soon as you step onto the boat, you experience nothing but the best service. Our table ordered oysters champagne for an appetizer. The oysters were perfectly chilled and the mignonette was delightful. For our meals we got soft shell crab, scallops, and the lobster rolls. Everything was WONDERFUL. My scallops were perfectly cooked and I loved the spicy red pepper that was on top of them. We also ordered a side of fries and asparagus. You have to order the fries! The Siracusa ketchup and the aioli was to DIE FOR. So delicious and such wonderful service. Don't think twice about making a reservation! read more
