If you loved Penny but didn't love the frosty, snooty AF clientele (and staff, let's be honest), head on over to this dead zone of DUMBO for its much more casual cousin. Tucked away in a rundown strip mall of sorts, Pearl Street is all exposed pipes and fragile items balanced precariously on top of one another in a kitchen smaller than some Easy Bake Ovens. Much like Penny, the entire seating area is a U-shaped counter, so everyone has a view of the action. Unlike Penny, the overhead speakers blast Zeppelin, Chris Cornell and other rockers you hung posters of in your college dorm. The prices are Manhattan-level, as are the portion sizes, but so is the quality. Here's how we spent our dough: - "Sea-cuterie" for Two: This came with a half dozen oysters, large shrimp, tuna crudo, cured salmon, and homemade toasted brioche. Nicely presented and fresher than daisies on a spring morning. - Golden Osetra Caviar 'Frito Pie': A gimmick, but a deliciously fun (and expensive) one. Open that wrapper and dig in to Kaluga caviar, creme daisy, egg yolk custard, and garlic chips. Common sense tells me this was not worth $52, but I don't really regret splurging. - Seared Diver Scallops: Perfectly cooked and interestingly accompanied with sultana raisins, toasted hazelnuts and cauliflower cream. - Gambas Al Ajillo: Picture two large shrimp, shells on, braised in a broth of smoked paprika, garlic and sherry fino. Familiar, savory, comforting, and delicious. - Maitake Confit and Toasted Farroto: If you're worried about portion sizes, get this to fill up. It's a big dish and loaded with the richness of faro and cream, complemented by the wet crunch of perfectly crisp maitake. In sum, Pearl Street might not impress affluent Manhattanites who are used to the Pennys of the borough, but it's worth a visit if you want the quality with blue jeans and a t-shirt vibes.

We really enjoyed our recent dinner experience at Pearl Street. We opted to skip the tasting and go à la carte since we had just done a tasting the previous weekend, but considering the food we got, we will definitely be back to do the full tasting menu. We started with the Sea-cuterie which was filled with extremely fresh seafood (oysters, shrimp cocktail, tuna crudo, cured salmon - with toasted brioche and cultured butter), expertly prepared and seasoned. We also had the Wagyu Roll N Roaster - incredible! So tasty and delicious, and it arrives smoked in a cloche. Very unique and delightful. Also the Gambas Al Ajillo which was a very well cooked and seasoned shrimp dish. The broth was especially yummy with the provided bread. We were tempted to order a 2nd Wagyu Roll N Roaster (for reaaaaal...) but after chatting with the talented Chef behind the counter did the PB&J with fois gras ganache instead which was just...bonkers good. Like the perfect savory/sweet dessert. All in all, this was an incredibly delicious meal served by friendly and professional people in a cozy and comfortable room. I look forward to returning in the future.

Incredible experience! Was in town for the weekend with my boyfriend who has never been to NY before. We spent some time researching to find something unique and fun for dinner and came across Pearl Street. It's a very small, very cute space where all the guests sit at the chefs counter. The staff were all so nice and attentive. We had fun watching them prepare all the dishes. We opted for the 8 course chef tasting ($120/each) with wine pairing ($80 add on each) , which was super fairly priced. The food was fantastic. The fish was so fresh. Would absolutely come back.

They really pack a lot into this teeny tiny restaurant on front street. Gorgeous seafood dishes prepared right in front of you, friendly and personalised service, very reasonably priced wines. Great neighborhood gem.

My boyfriend booked this place for dinner and I have to say it was a very good pick. And I have to say you CANNOT judge a book by its cover. If you're just looking at the pictures you're probably thinking: WOW this is a fancy intimate place. But when you walk in there's loud music playing which TBH was very different but it fit in with the whole atmosphere and reflected the personality of the owner. The food was really good. They have A La Carte menu but they also have a tasting menu (which I would highly recommend - but make sure you're not rushing to anything like we did because they take their time making the food and plating). I'm assuming their tasting menu changes every once in a while because the introduction of each dish was not scripted at all. Even if you don't go for the tasting menu you HAVE to order their scallop and PB&J. You're thinking why PB&J? Because it's mixed with Foie Gras which brought it to a next level. Absolutely delicious. I highly recommend trying this place out. And I hope they get more attention. For a place like this to not be booked out on a Sunday night is pretty sad. They should get more attention than this!!!!!

This is one of my favorite restaurants in town. The place is tiny but the service is attentive, the food is great and price reasonable and won't break your bank to enjoy the high end cuisine. The chef is so creative and talented using local ingredients for the dishes. Love every dishes there and can't wait to go back again. It's really a hidden gems in the neighborhood.

2nd time back here, first time we came here it was still only tasting menu allowed and it was genuinely amazing. This time it's a little different, here is why: 1. We have been a great fan of the tomatoes since last tasting menu we had an awesome tomato salad so we decided to give the shrimp piccata with bitter greens a try since they told us it will have the tomatoes. Im not a fan of this since the bitterness overpowers everything, even eating with the sweetest cherry tomatoes it doesn't help at all. Maybe tone it down a bit? 2. The cheese fondue is very bad, sourest cheese + super sour pickles? It wasn't enjoyable to be honest, I am a believer in balancing flavors and layers of them but this just sour on sour on sour, the sour dough was so tough it hurts to chew. Those above constitutes the 1 star off. It was just not good. Maitake confit is AMAZING, hands down the dish to die for, the portion is actually great I am drooling thinking about it, the wagyu bun is also amazing!!! Cheap sweet buns + wagyu + some jalapeño and straw berry jam= BOMB!!!! The PBJ is ok, I can't taste foie gras much but it's delicious Now let's talk about services, we saw that on Resy there were a table for two available at 6pm and we were just outside so we directly stepped in, we were told that we absolutely cannot do a tasting menu since they need the table back at 7:30pm. Sure it's alright, but at least have 2 types of reservations on Resy to make it clear. It is confusing:) the chefs r amazing and friendly.

This was exceptional--probably the best restaurant food I've had all year. We had the chef's tasting menu which was superb and great value. They had a champagne on special we did which was also great. The scallops were incredible and my favorite, followed by the foie gras PB&J, then maybe the steak. I'll say I could have used a touch more food--we ended up getting dessert elsewhere afterwards. If I came back I'd want to try their smoked Philly cheese steak variant. This restaurant is tiny and super personable, you get to see the chefs working right in front of you, and the service is very good due to the small nature of the place. This is a good spot to eat at earlier (we started at 5:15) since the tasting menu will take awhile to get through.

Wow. Stunning experience. Unique and laid-back atmosphere, probably the nicest fine dining in this area. Finally, we felt that this is a spot that warrants a reason for peopleto visit the neighborhood. We loved experiencing all the quality and class of a Michelin-starred restaurant without the pretentiousness. Everyone is jamming to the music, vibing, and having a great time. It's just so comfortable! Loved our host/server, he was incredibly charismatic and fun. The food was simple yet imaginative, and everything is prepped in perfect choreography in an impossibly small space. Kudos to the chefs. I am lactose intolerant and they accommodated my dietary restriction like a dream. In fact, my date felt that some of the courses I had were even better than his own. We'll definitely come back to visit. Thanks for an amazing evening.

What a great intimate experience we had at Pearl Street. We walked into the little 10 seat counter space and were immediately greeted by Charlie, a great hostess! We had seats at the corner and watching the crew in the small kitchen behind the counter made for a wonderful show. Both the raw and savory dishes were spot on. We had the sea-cuterie and the oysters were simply fresh and delicious; the shrimp were succulent; and the chili crisp tuna crudo was really excellent. The star of the seafood show was the scallops, perfectly prepared and exploding with flavor. Moving to land the Gambas Al Ajillo was creamy and delicious. The smoked waygu roll was super flavorful, and the PB&J Triangles With Foie Gras Ganache was a great experience. So book your reservation, be one of the ten people enjoying the show. You will not be disappointed.

Very small spot in Dumbo area, but it was half empty the Thursday night we went (total just 12 seats). There are four guys working the kitchen who are also your servers since it is counter seating. Plating was nicely done. Head chef was also nice (as well as the rest of the team) but he kept itching his hands, then putting them in his jeans' pockets, then proceeded to cut tomatoes for our meal. Music didn't match the vibe. Was fully empty by the time we left (at a normal reasonable time) so was a bit awkward for my friend and I to eat alone for half the meal while they stared at you.

If you're even thinking about trying this place -- stop thinking and just GO. This is a full-on experience. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere wraps around you like a warm, vibrant hug. The staff? Unbelievably welcoming and genuinely excited to guide you through the menu. Now let's talk food: every dish is a masterpiece. You can taste the love and attention in every bite -- bold flavors, perfect textures, and beautiful presentation. Whether you're on a date, celebrating something big, or just craving something unforgettable, this place hits every mark. Don't just take my word for it -- go see (and taste) for yourself. You'll be hooked.

Exceptional food and service. This multi-course dining experience features excellent dishes that are very well prepared and very balanced in flavor. Each dish was explained very well and we enjoyed watching them be prepared and discussing them with the chef and team. Some other reviewers have mentioned this as well that the environment was fun and casual and that is definitely the case. This is not a stuffy atmosphere. Great music, everyone enjoying their time, a very friendly atmosphere. I loved the cranberry beans and the skate dish was the best I've ever had. Everything was very good, flavorful and great ingredients. I saw another review that said there wasn't enough food. My girlfriend and I were totally stuffed, so I'm not sure what that person experienced. Overall would love to go again. Enjoyed the wine, food and the team creating the experience. Thank you!

First I'll start with the wine - we ended up trying all three happy hour wines (HH until 7), which the tables favorites were the white and we ended up getting a bottle to split once HH ended (but I really enjoyed the other vino verde option). It was incredibly refreshing and paired well with the many tinned fish options. As you'd expect - it's a pretty massive selection and there is bound to be a varietal and glass for any palate. It's also attached to a wine store - so it's fine to see all the bottles when peaking over. Food-wise - this is where it was hit or miss, they have a pretty extensive menu (with a whole tinned fish section!) and we ended up ordering the buratta on focaccia (buratta was excellent, focaccia was too dense for my tastes), mushroom truffle crostini (way too salty), the flatbread with sliced kielbasa (was fine), halloume (table favorite ), tinned sardines in lemon oil (delicious), tinned smoked trout (my favorite). Overall the four of us were very full at the end of the meal! The space itself felt very relaxing and rustic, and definitely got busier as the night went on (we got there at 6:50 and left around 9). The service was also fast and attentive - even for the amount of tables they were serving. Overall - I'd definitely go back again, and maybe just focus on the wine and another tinned fish selection!

Starting with the positives -the banchan was solid across the board and really flavorful. That said, charging for banchan feels strange to me. Traditionally, it's complimentary, like bread at an Italian restaurant so that part didn't sit right but it was flavorful. The chigae was interesting and probably the standout dish. It had a unique flavor that reminded me of a mix between soondubu and dwenjang chigae which worked well. Unfortunately, the rest was a miss. The bossam was overly salty and didn't feel true to the dish. The tteokbokki was another disappointment -it came with cheese (which wasn't expected) and just fell flat overall. For the hype, I expected much more especially because I've eaten Korean food my whole life. The venue is small and the seats in the back are uncomfortable.
