Came here from AZ didn't know what to expect when ordering Mexican food. This place nailed it!! I have never heard of Christmas sauce but it was delicious, ask about it, you'll love it. The steak was equally delicious!! read more

The food was standard Mexican fare. We would probably come back, but the service was not great. Plus, at the end of our meal, their credit card machine stopped working. Our waiter asked us to wait a few minutes for it to come back online, which isn't the worst thing in the world. But I would have expected in a situation like that, that they would offer a free drink or dessert, or even just write the bill off and ask us to come again. No thank you so much for waiting. Nothing. read more

Went yesterday night had the worst service I've ever had in a restaurant. The food doesn't taste how it used to. The food tasted like it was microwaved. read more

Absolutely delicious food. I tried the green chile chicken enchiladas. The sopapillas are amazing. Very private booths and great waiters.

Los Cuates is by far the worst Mexican/New Mexican restaurant I have ever eaten in. Good chips. The good ends here. The salsa tasted like sweet catsup with some insipid red chile in it. The chile Rellenos are horrible. Pasty, soggy batter and tasteless green chile. I ordered them with Red and Green. Both are tasteless -- stupidly done, and dumbed down for the masses. Yuck. The draft beer choices are limited to some tasteless Mexican brews. Los Cuates, you have been chopped. read more

Well, just waited for a hostess for 15 min and no one came, so we left, along with 2 more parties of about 7 people.

Ordered takeout from Los Cuates last week. The food was good, but in a sea of New Mexican cuisine restaurants, it didn't really stand out. Takeout service was slow (I think they may have waited for me to arrive to pay before they started making it), but the employees I encountered (the host who kindly walked me to the dedicated takeout counter while asking about my day - he could have as easily just pointed, but went out of his way; the takeout counter cashier who was friendly and pleasant) were all Grade-A and obviously trained in customer service. Overall, the place is good. I'll go back. Just like I said... it didn't really stand out one way or the other. read more

Food was excellent as always.!Service from our hostess/waitress was great! The only down fall to our meal was having to hear the other waitress "Sophia" bully our hostess. read more

This location is definitely different than the other ones in town. We came in around 1 today and funny thing how they sat us at the very last table by the kitchen and the bathroom. Not only was it loud, irritating but also wasn't impressive of a service at all. Were we not dressed not? I don't think so, why then would you sat us all the way back there without even asking us hey is it ok if we decided to treat you both like you don't matter!!? On my left hand side there was the bathroom and kitchen, on my right hand side there was a large party of at least 20 kids. Foods were not impressive at all, I ordered tacos and tortilla burger, we asked for ketchup and about an hour later, still nothing. Burger meat was so dried up and the tacos were so greasy. Also, if you decided to take my drink and refill it, wait for me to finish chewing so I can answer you what is my drink. Don't just grab it and walk away. Why then 2 stars? Your honey was good, your diet pop was impeccable, sadly your foods and services were no where close to your honey and diet soda. Will you see me at your location again? Probably not. read more

I haven't eaten here for awhile, but was craving some good food. Sad to say, the menus were kinda gross, the salsa was horrible and my beer was flat. That being said, I was trying to be positive. So much for that. The oil was rancid and everything fried made me want to gag. While the hostess and server came by every once in awhile, you could see the were disengaged. Super sad. Not eating here ever again. read more

Los Cuates - Drink - New Mexican Cuisine Near Me - Albuquerque, New Mexico

Enter the Seafood Chimichanga, lightly fried with Calabasas (corn, onions, bell peppers, squash) and a handsome amount of Avocado on top. Is this "traditional" in the Mexican sense? It's hard to tell, but as we arrived to Los Cuates, near the Cottonwood Mall, this was a great stop to eat over the other restaurants. Around lunch hour, we were greeted and took our seats. Here, there's nothing short of a huge spectrum of flavors, tastes, and preferences. I went for something a little different this time and was way into the texture, the taste, and the overall presentation. Not only does it look different, it IS different, adding to the myriad of things you're going to find while in New Mexico. I really liked Los Cuates, and would definitely try again. Drinking a Straw-garita is HIGHLY, I repeat HIGHLY encouraged as well. read more

Arrived at 6:00 pm we had to wait 10 minutes for the rest of our party, we ordered and the meal took 40 minutes to get to the table. 2 order's were wrong, I was tired of waiting and told them to just take it away my daughter ate hers anyway she was hungry and tired of waiting, they did bring her what she ordered (she took it home) they did ask me if I wanted anything and I had enough and didn't feel like eating. My opinion about restaurants is your time to shine is when I walk through the door not after I wait 40 minutes and get the wrong meal. I'm thinking they are severely understaffed. My family said the food was good even flavorful.7 read more

Placed an order at 1145 for pickup at 1230. Get to restaurant and was told "Take out isn't a priority, so your order will be at least another 20min". Made absolutely 0 sense and I paid for over 50 dollars in food, but this isn't a priority?! Naw. Won't be going back read more

This this used to be one of our go-to places. We went early this morning. Service was great, but food, not today. Had to ask for more chile, eggs were done all wrong, plates didn't look quite right, and the soaps were hard and dry like they were leftover from last night. Then within an hour of being home all 4 of us got sick. Not serious sick, but like something really was not right about breakfast. We get people are hurting for good staff. Things are tough, but with all the choices there are out there, you gotta up your game. read more

I visited this spot and for the first time enjoyed their brunch menu. I had the Huevos Rancheros with Carne Adovada, which were excellent and really hit the spot for me - rich adovada with eggs and all the fixings that come with a New Mexican plate. A fantastic meal! read more

In the need for some NM cuisine? In need for a good margarita? Los Cuates does not disappoint. I love the fact that the food is priced well and they have a huge selection of vegetarian options. The calabacitas are awesome! Sopapillas are always made fresh. Nice happy hour drink specials. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the chips and salsa...more like spicy ketsup read more

The service was terrible. They were very slow. We called ahead and still had to wait for thirty minutes in a nearly empty restaurant before we were seated. It was another 45 min before we got some of our food. And to just as long to get drink refills. The wait staff was uninterested in assisting our group. The food we got had already cooled for awhile. They eventually brought the rest of our food which was also cold. Extremely disappointed. read more

My spouse very much wanted to try this restaurant. The place was packed, and at an hour I would consider early for dinner on a Friday night. The decor was nice, service was fantastic until they really got busy, then dropped off, but overall very good service. Warning, they do try to drop off an extra basket of chips because they charge for additional. These were not hot or anything special for me to want to pay for more. The blue corn tortillas used for the enchilada plates were dry and tougher than expected, but the flavors were good on everything. All in all the food was pretty average and ran about $10 per person for the entrees we ordered. I may give them another try sometime. They are certainly better than the tourist food at Garduno's, but with so many good New Mexican restaurants here it won't be soon. read more

I always get chicken enchiladas, rice, and beans; that's my go to Mexican food order. I get it without chile...I know, I know, New Mexicans are throwing things at my review now, but I'm not from NM and with chile, you never know what you're going to get, spicy, spicier, or holy crap! So I just avoid it. The enchiladas, rice, and beans are good, but that is not the reason for the 5 stars. The reason for the 5 stars is the SOAPAPILLAS! They are some of the best sopas I've ever had. With honey on top, they are flaky, not doughy or chewy, and they are DELICIOUS! read more

Wow I've been coming here for years and always enjoy it. However last night was by far the worst experience. For the good, the staff was excellent. Always refilling drinks, in top of the chips, and super kind. The bad though out weighs it. The place was dirty, the walls at the table was filthy, the place just is starting to need some upkeep. The food though was awful. Chips were stale and tasted like several days old. The sopas also stale and floorless. And the food was not good at all lacking flavor and left a strange taste in my mouth after leaving. They really need to do something about the kitchen or they will have problems keeping customers. It took 30 min to find a seat but there were plenty available, and I don't believe covid has much to do with it other than maybe they couldn't staff enough. read more

Very disappointed in this restaurant I ordered a beef and potato burrito and when I looked inside all I seen was a dollop of beef and nothing but potatoes when complaining to the manager she says well we put 3 ouncesOf beef and 3 ounces of potatoes which is not true so we decided we weren't going back after spending a lot of money in that place read more

The management takes NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ERRORS!!! I ordered a cheese enchilada plate to-go. I got a green tamale and rice and beans a la carte. I live an hour away. When I got home, I discovered the error. When I called, she wanted me to drive an hour back...... She has done nothing to make the situation right!!! I asked for a refund for the plate I ordered, or to pick it up at a location close to where I live. She told me to call corporate. There is no phone number for corporate. Bla Bla Bla...... every excuse in the book, but NO correction and NO refund! Check your order before you leave. They take NO responsibility for accuracy!!! Still have NO REFUND! read more

The salsa is not that good but I give them credit for trying a sweet and smoky different salsa. The sopapilla was doughy on one side. The carne adovada was good. I just don't have much to say about this place because it wasn't bad or great. I just can't put my finger on why. read more

Not only was the food disappointing, it was 50% more expensive than the costs on the menu I ordered from. Never would I have paid that price for stale food with no flavor. There was no salsa included even though I specifically asked for it. The tamales were stale and listed at 3.75 each. I paid $7 each. Never again read more

I have been here a few times and have said I will not go back. A friend wanted to go, and I said OK maybe it's better since I have not been for a long time. We were so sorry we went. It was a Monday night, and they were not busy. It took a bit to be sited and awhile for anyone to come to our table. Once we got our food, she did not bring out everything we did order and she kept disappearing and not bringing the rest of our order. We couldn't get drink refills. I believe it was a manager that came by, and I asked where our waitress was, and he said oh she got tied up. I asked if she has been tied up since we have been here. Once again, we could not find our waitress to get our ticket, I was so ready to walk out without paying but did not. We were there for almost two hours on a Monday night that was not busy I could only imagine if they were busy. Very bad service. We shared the chimichanga plate that was pretty good but the salsa and queso was not very good. needless to say, we will not go back. read more

I like the food at this restraunt, but i can say with certainty that almost everytime we try and order take-out we are often discouraged by the staff who use the "wait time" to discourage our business. At first I thought we just called at the wrong time, but now after having it used on me many times, i witnessed it yet again and it is now completely predictable. We took my niece there to celebrate milestone in her life we were told that it was a 30 min wait so we just waited. After sitting there in a 25% full restuarant for over an hour we were finally seated. Our entertainment was watching family after family coming in then quickly leaving after being discouraged by the host. read more

The service varies but this time I got me a some food not to long ago and the food was coming out of the bag very bad next time I go in I better start checking my food to see if it's okay to walk out with it and not paying $17 again f that sorry but not sorry they lost a regular customer. I'm really going to have to give this place a 3.5. We came in for happy hour which honestly a a house Margherita, bud light beer and chili con queso, makes not a Happy Hour! The ambience is nice and our server was fantastic. I'm told the food is very good, but the sweet salsa wasn't my favorite. I did have their house Margarita, it was very good but was incredibly small for $4,99. II will try the food, however they will need to make want to come back with more value read more

I still love eating at Los Cuates, but dine-in ONLY. We ordered take out from this location last week and it was terrible. The enchilada plates had maybe a tablespoon of chile on it-very dry and cold. Same with the chicken burrito plate-where's the chile? We waited for them to finish the order so it wasn't that it was sitting around-they just did a very poor job. Why not make the take out orders as well as the dine-in? Oh, no, Los Cuates! What's going on? Chile is why we eat there. The last few times we've been back the food has been great. We still won't get take-out from Los Cuates. Be generous with the chile-that's what it's all about. read more

I have officially gone to this restaurant for the last time... First off they always mess up my order. I remember one time going back and telling them they forgot to give me my chips with my queso and salsa. When I went back 20 minutes later, the manager points to the sign and says I should of checked my order before leaving... Awesome... Tonight, 2/12/16, I ordered what I always do, flautes. They are a special order. They charge 22.75 for a dozen. As always I ordered 5 but to my surprise they charged me $5 per flauta. Yep $25 dollars for a fluffy tacquito. When I brought it to the manager Al, who was annoyed that I interrupted his flirting with a female staff, he said yep that's what they cost. I said fine go ahead and make me another 7 and give me three dollars back. He stated that flautes have never been $22 a dozen. So I pull him into the to go order area and show him the price, $22.75. So "Al" the GM said their was nothing he could do. Unbelievable. I have 20 years of restaurant experience and have never seen such a group of idiots in a restaurant. read more

We were staying in Rio on a trip thru from Colorado. We drove south looking for a Chili's and when it was just too busy, we wandered over to the nearby Los Cuates. Boy were we glad we did. We found the food and drink to be consistently very good. Nothing in particular was spectacular, but everything was very, very good. The Chili Relleno was very freshly cooked and crisp. The Combo de Frank (no hot dog included) was the bomb. Margaritas terrific. The manager was a true gentleman and was keeping the place going with a limited crew. Miguel our waiter was extremely helpful, especially explaining and giving us samples of their various sauces and salsas available. Problem was, we liked them all, but the salsa with large red and green chili pieces was out of this world. Very tasty but not too hot. Locals, please give them your business in these hard times, as we will when we pass thru again. They deserve it! read more

Never going back. New cook? New management? The food used to be really good, but lately (2019-2020), the food has lost quality and authenticity. They actually served sopapillas to our table; over-cooked, heavy, and not chewable. My beef taco was so greasy, the oil spilled into my plate with each bite, no salsa provided either! It seemed as if the red chile was being rationed, as well. The cook should be ashamed to serve the combination plate I was served. I hope I can find a good New Mexican restaurant on the West Side because it sure is not this one. read more

I think the take out experience is just as important as the in house dining experience. My family has eaten at the restaurant maybe 4 or 5 times, mediocre experiences all, but the food is decent and we keep coming back. Last night we decided to try take out. Bad idea. The food was still mediocre. There was an error on one person's order and there were no sopapillas with the order. The manager was called and we asked for them to make it right. We were rudely told that sopapillas only came with the meal if you sit in the restaurant (consolation for the bad lighting and leisurely waitstaff I guess?) and we didn't get even a simple sorry for the incorrect order. A small apology goes a long way. If you choose to order take out, know that you will get the bare minimum and because you aren't eating there, the service level and care for your satisfaction are extremely limited. Cruise across the parking lot and go to Gardunos. read more

So far we ordered the Southwest Calamari, very bland no flavor at all. Service was super fast we got our appetizer and 5 min later we got our food. Andrea was our waitress and she was awesome. My wife ordered an Avacado bacon burger, not to flavor full. Had a wierd taste to it, just not tasty. I ordered the Carneasada plate, the meat was ok again not to flavor full. However the meat were large chunks and suppose a good portion. Will we come back? Maybe but won't be our first choice. Oh sopillias were good...
