Chips with salsa and queso are brought out quickly. Salsa has a smokey, chipotle taste to it. I ordered the enchiladas michoacanas. SO yummy! The husband ordered the ahi tacos. I was in the mood for enchiladas but I picked the wrong day for that when I visited for the first time at The Whole Enchilada. It was taco Tuesday and the green menu was my only options. The service was great from the moment I walked in. The woman who greeted me was so nice and pleasant. The place wasn't empty. Hard to tell from the outside. Everything was clean and folks looked to be enjoying themselves. I ordered carne asada tacos. Plain because I'm not a fan of fresh onions or cilantro. She gave me a couple tiny plastic containers to get sauce from the front and they were delicious and flavorful. She brought me the menu for all the other days. Recommended the sirloin tacos next time stating a different cut of meat than what I had. Asked if I liked seafood because she said the ceviche was great. Not a fan but I have family that love it. Note: if you do order tacos on a Tuesday, you get 4 but they have to be the same. I'll return because the carne asada was nice and tender and I still want enchiladas. read more

This restaurant is a totally overlooked gem. Their food is tasty and authentic and their prices are very reasonable. I'm happy about their name change from "Whole Enchilada" to Tarascó which is a more accurate reflection if their authentic Mexican cuisine. Best on this side of town imho. read more

This little hole in the wall restaurant has the most delicious enchiladas; we had a shrimp enchilada dish (the one with the crazy long name) and the spinach mushroom enchiladas. Huge portions (4 enchiladas), creamy savory beans, and homemade chips and tasty dips. The server, Lilly, was cheerful and efficient. A complete surprise and well definitely be back for more! Wow, they wouldn't let me add a side of grilled chicken breast to my order for my service animal. The server would rather lose a $50 sale then figure out how to add a chicken breast to order. Not too bright and management hold the reigns to close. Just wanted to switch the soft tacos out for hard shells, and it took 8 minutes to get kitchen approval. Excellent shrimp tostadas! Sauce is amazing! Shrimp is cold. Really loved the combo of shrimp, sauce, and relish type accompaniment. Maybe pickled cabbage? So good! My husband had the breaded shrimp tacos and said the were the best he's ever had! read more

Chips and salsa were cold. The asada burrito was pretty decent, no complaints there. My husband had the birria burrito and it was weirdly overly cinnamon-y which I've never come across before. Prices are reasonable. I don't think we'll be coming back though. read more

As the name suggests there are a lot of enchiladas here. But it's not the only thing on the menu. Everything looked/sounded good so what to choose. I settled on the Enchiladas Parangaricutirimicuaro (shrimp) and shredded beef tacos. We started off with a special taped to the door - Elote Nachos. A different take on nachos with chips topped with street corn, crema, cojita cheese and cilantro. Red & green salsas came on the side. I'm not usually a fan on layered enchiladas - but these were excellent. Loaded with shrimp and great seasoning. The shredded beef tacos were filled with nicely seasoned. Instead of being topped with salsa it had a layer of mayo. This added a different dimension to the flavor. Overall a pleasant surprise, much better than expected. Wow! This is some of the hottest, spiciest salsa this gringa has ever attempted to taste. Thankfully I also got some queso to cleanse my burning pallet. The chips were freshly homemade. The sweet tea helped. I ordered the veggie fajitas. Well, my fajitas arrived. The mushrooms and yellow peppers were grilled fine, but the green peppers and onions were more raw than cooked. It was inconsistent. The rice with carrots and peas was tasty. The tortillas were very hot, wrapped in foil, but very bland. My server was very attentive and friendly, refilling my sweet iced tea. It was a Friday night and the place filled up fast. There was a large celebration out on the patio. In the front window was large post that they back in 2023 applied for a liquor license. My guess is that it has not been approved yet. I wish them success. They had tons of enchiladas combinations. Maybe next time. Warning: When I got my debit card back with my receipt, at the very bottom it stated that "there is a 3.5% card charge"! That was a surprise! Beware of this charge! read more

I've been searching all over Albuquerque from the west to the east, north and south however far it takes to find the one. And about a month ago, I was blessed with one of the best spots in town extremely close to me. Admittedly since I went their for the first time about a month ago, I've been back about 5 times. I have come across many burritos in my quest containing just beans and meat, or just meat. The whole enchilada has the whole shabang- rice, beans, beat, onions, cilantro, sour cream and guacamole.... for $8. This thing is a beast and it delivers on taste like no other. Next, let's discuss their plates. I ordered the camarones de chipotle, shrimp cooked in a creamy addicting chipotle sauce. I haven't been able to order anything else since, I crave this creamy orange deliciousness. To top it off, the chips are thick, crispy and have the perfect amount of salt. My boyfriend is partial to the green salsa, but I could drink the orange salsa if I had the chance. Stop by this new business on the northwest side, you won't regret it. read more

Great traditional Mexican food. BE PATIENT. It is a family owned restaurant. Everything is made from scratch. From the tortilla chips and tortillas to the refried beans, everything is made in house. The food stands by their price and they have always had prompt service. They definitely make you feel nice and welcome. Our waiter has even promptly met us outside and grab the door for us when they weren't too busy. They have a nice open kitchen where you can see them prepare your food. Inside it has a Mexican restaurant feel and their outdoor patio is a must. They offer other various items that are good but if you are coming here for chicken tenders I suggest you go elsewhere. We went to this place because it was ranked high in Albuquerque the magazine, boy was this a disappointment. For the price the food was pretty plain, then our waiter dropped a ranch and it exploded all over the place. It was on the wall, my clothes, the chair and the floor. When I asked to talk to management about the issue, the response was "you have kids, I'm sure you are used to getting dirty". I will never be returning to this place. read more

Very good, although next time I would specify "light on the cilantro." It was quite cilantro-forward. A little bit of that goes a long way. The perfectly cooked/seasoned rice had a few peas and carrot bits. Delicious! Nice change from the cliched "Spanish rice!" Their menu is extensive, which can be worrisome. I have always wanted to try the place. This is more of traditional Mexican food, not New Mexican food. Lots of seafood with the items on the menu. Shrimp, muscles, clams, etc So girl messed up the order, asked for tacos, half way done and not tacos, asked what happened she said she forget to add. Goes back and orders and did not put a rush on it. I have read a few reviews and they say the service is great but I do not agree. We finished our meal before the tacos came out. Must say the Hidalgo wings are good. Have a sweet taste. Very tasty. I had the steak fajitas. They were very good. So the food is great here, remember it is not New Mexican, it is Mexican. The Whole Enchilada is a relatively new player in the West Side food scene. With a broad patio as well as a cool, clean interior space, it seems to be a great dine-in option now that dine-in is once again an option. Raz and I are still more inclined to takeout, and call-ahead ordering worked marveously well at this restaurant. I opted for the Camarones al Ajillo, and Raz went for the Pescado la Piedad. My garlicky-buttery-spicy shrimp were most pleasing. The dish involved medium-sized shrimp rather than the giant jumbo prawns, which means that the chef had to have absolutely phenomenal timing to make those little prawns tender and succulent without them going rubbery on the drive home. And they were, tender, juicy, garlicky, buttery, and spicy, all-around excellent shrimps. They came accompanied by refritos and rice, which were both pretty good, but definitely not the stars of the plate. Raz's Pescado was a decent, fillng fillet, and he loved the flavor. All-in-all, this was a solidly good experience, though it did seem a bit spendy for the portion sizes. We are likely to give another go to the restaurant, and maybe even try out their patio on a nice evening soon. read more

I love the Tampiquena here! So delish! Have it a couple times a month at least! Today I went in for breakfast and had the Chilaquiles... soooo Good! The green sauce was so flavorful and wonderful! It's a substantial plate of food! Homemade chips and beans! Meal came quickly and the girl serving me has a quick smile and very sweet! I love that there are some bar-height tables in the back, away from the main area, if I'm eating alone. I also love the Enchilada Suizas! Last weekend I stopped in for a breakfast burrito, and it was very good! They don't to the "red or green" thing, simple burrito, I had bacon, potato and eggs and it had a healthy about of Melted Cheese on it! and I loved the tortilla! it seemed homemade as well. Bottom Line: Food about 3-3.5 stars for okay to good taste, mostly very good texture & decent presentation, price in the window with competition, but a bit thin on quantity & consistency of build. Very fluffy tender tortillas. Staff quite nice & seem genuinely concerned about taking care of the customer, so 4 stars for the ladies and the benefit of a doubt brings the overall rating to 4 star. Top Line: A shopping trip to strip mall at Alameda Blvd and Corrales Rd brought me within striking distance of The Whole Enchilada just as a major mid-afternoon hunger attack was striking. Since I hadn't hit this location since its days as a Middle Eastern eatery, it seemed a prime time to check it out. The lady manning the front was cordial & helpful in getting me oriented on their menu choices. I was set for some beef birria tacos until I spotted a sign adverting pork belly tacos, so I went pork for the to-go trip to chowdown town. Drink was a 16 oz cup of agua de horchata. 3 pork belly street tacos with side of esquites corn were $12 and the horchata was $3.50, so at the top of my $10-$15 lunch pricing window, although pretty much in line with their competition. Pork belly tacos were okay to good flavor, but not particularly distinctive, complex, or punchy in taste. A bit muted in the flavor department was my impression. The flavor varied bite to bite. The sauce drizzled over the fillings was quite good & seemed to deliver a tart vinegar hinted spiciness. But it only came hit & miss. Some bites had it in aces, others none at all. Taco texture was good, but I came up wanting by expecting some crunchiness in the mix. Pork belly was soft & chewy as expected. Toppings were also soft texture, albeit tender in a not objectionable way. I guess I've been spoiled by the crispy spicy slaw that has been typical on street tacos I've previously experienced. The tortillas for the tacos were epiphanies! Although they were obviously corn tortillas, the texture was cloud like fluffiness that approached brioche density. Which means they were also hyper tender. Absolutely amazing!! Tacos were somewhat sparsely filled. Distinctly lacking in the quantity column. Certainly not fat street tacos. Esquites had rich corn flavor enhanced by the char from grilling. However, the cheese & spice toppings were so subdued in flavor they hardly registered at all over the corn's taste. And corn ain't all that strong a flavor to overcome. Horchata drink was okay, being almost all rice flavor with only a faint shading of cinnamon in the mix. The anemic hit of cinnamon and lack of other spices robbed the drink of distinction or complexity. So my overall impression was that the Whole Enchilada is an okay eatery with decent food at acceptable prices from quite nice people, but not one that will redefine Mexican food or rearrange reality as a few restaurants have done in my past. read more

My dinner was better than my husband (he had enchiladas and I had steak tacos). Great new addition to the west side for authentic, fresh Mexican eats!!! After our first pass...survey said....?? - WELL DONE!! DELICIOUS!!!! The ribeye tacos were excellent....well seasoned and full of flavor. I also think they may be pressing their own tortillas too...or buying very local...they were excellent!! Service was warm and gracious - not sure what else you can ask for. Looking forward to a hopeful soon return to dive a little deeper into their uniquely creative menu. First Sharla is amazing! Very kind and friendly. The food was delicious, I ordered the Michoacán style enchiladas. Delicious, the toppings looked very fresh. So much flavor! I also ordered the tuétano taco (which I made the mistake of thinking it was a small portion) the presentation alone was amazing. It was amazing! Sharla did say I was going to love them and she was right! It comes with a sauce that just complements it so well! I was only able to finish the tuétano tacos, and take two bites of the enchiladas before I was full.
