Our breakfast life has become predictable - we rotate thru 3 places & need to broaden our horizons. Enter Viva Mexico. Mid morning , not busy, seat yourself. Interior is simple, Hole-in-the-Wall look. Menus & chips & salsa arrive. Followed closely by a huge cup of hot chocolate made with milk. Coffee was hot & bold. Menu is loaded with offerings. I zero in on the Chilaquiles Al Gusto(steak added), green on the side. The wife ordered the Chorizo con Huevos. Plates arrived & in typical NM fashion - a lot of food. But it was delicious!!! The only downside was the steak, it was tough. Prices were reasonable. More-so considering the amount of food served. This will be addition to our rotation. read more

My wife has been coming here since she was 16.. she seen the old building standing outside waiting for the food to now, the bigger building with a full indoor dinning room. They are so consistent and delicious. The customer service is amazing. They cook the food fast and it's delicious. We love ordering the small nachos to share. The shrimp fajitas were great as well as the shrimp quesadilla and the chicken fajitas. The restaurant was nearly full at 4:00 in the afternoon and we were the only Gringos in there. That speaks for itself as to how good the food is. read more

Went here looking for tacos al pastor. Unfortunately, I didn't feel like we found what we've been looking for in ABQ. The marinated pork was good, but it didn't appear as if it'd been shaved off a spit. Most importantly, there was no pineapple. The tacos came with plenty of onion and cilantro. The price was right, and we liked the service... Not much else to say. The rice's peas were shriveled, like they would be if frozen then microwaved, and neither of us were convinced that the refried beans were made in house. Salsa tasted store-bought. Very good. They serve what I call soupy frijoles. usually don't care for them but these were actually fairly good. Ordered juevos rancheros which is my go to with a new place. Chili didn't have any bite but wasn't bad. Liked the way they did hash browns. This place like most others haven't lowered the price if coffee even though coffee prices dropped a few months ago. Me and my husbands first time!!! We were craving Mexican food, and I got the fish tacos and they are so dry and basic literally just fish that's cut and fried(and not like a normal fry with batter it's just like naked fried) it was so dry there was no sauces in taco either and the corn tortilla was just like baked too not fried in oil as usual I've never seen a fish taco like that del taco fish tacos are 10x better, then my husbands torta also was just not it, it was nearly impossible to eat like a torta it was soggy and falling apart and had no sauce either he was putting the chip salsa on it as was I on my fish tacos(still didn't help) the fries were the only good part of our meals and that's not good being it's a true new Mexican restaurant the rice was not Spanish at all looked like rice with some color(pinkish) w/peas, carrots, and corn and was way soggy, and the beans were beans. The melon drink and fountain drink were as expected. And they only brought out 1 serving of chips and salsa very disappointed, not sure if we will go back. This is my GO TO restaurant every time I visit Albuquerque. The food is amazing! Every bite has so much flavor! The shorts ribs are 10/10 so good! Through the years the flavor hits every spot still years later. Chips and green salsa so good, not really spicy but flavor is savory. Horchata 9/10. Not everyone can make a good horchata but this one is a must. I will always come here every time I'm in Albuquerque and I will recommend this restaurant for authentic Mexican food to anyone and everyone who wants a great plate of food. read more

Absolutely loved their ceviche here and can't get enough of it. Place is always packed so be prepared to possibly wait in line. Need to explore more of the menu but would highly recommend this place if you are on the hunt for a good ceviche in town. I would suggest holding off on devouring the chips and salsa and save the chips for the ceviche. read more

Queso is decent. Salsa (the red) is good, green not so much. Service is HORRIBLE. Expect to WAIT and be ignored...at least until you finally just give up and cash out. The asada is flavorless. If I could give minus reviews I would, as soon as we sat down, we saw a cockroach on the table, it came out from the condiments. It was a large roach. My husband killed it immediately and left it on the floor. When I told the waitress, she just said ... so do you want to cancel the order? She did not apologize, she was very rude. She looked like the supervisor or manager. I told her , You should clean that roach up before other customers see it. But she just said we'll sweep it up later. We will never go back! read more

Went to lunch with some coworkers here. They worked around my allergies (gluten, soy, potato) and we ended up with a breakfast item of pork chops and eggs, not using oil and no papas. Refried beans were okay (I'm not really fan of refrieds anyway, so I'm no one to ask about that part). The chops and eggs were great. Service was friendly. Honestly, we've been living here for less than a year and coming from southern New Mexico, it's been REALLY hard trying to find authentic food that tastes like home. With that being said. The barbacoa tacos are the BEST. This is the place to go if you want real MEXICAN food. The food tasted AMAZING. MY husband had the caldo de pescado, which I wasn't a fan of, and he ate it all and it's a first. The salsas they serve with the chips are just as delicious. You get the right amount of spice in the avocado, just enough to help give it that delicious flavor. We had to ask for extra before we left cause I loved it. The staff was extremely friendly and inviting. They checked on us frequently but not too frequently that it interrupts your meal. They weren't overly attentive. This place really made it to our top 5. We're still on our hunt but now we know where it won't be a miss and where we won't be disappointed. read more

The service was friendly and quick for a work day lunch experience. I ordered the chicken taco plate and my friend order the seafood soup (there's a Spanish word for it but I don't recall, it was a giant bowl full of seafood of all kinds). Chips and salsa were okay. The tacos were very greasy, but sometimes folks really enjoy that. Overall the food was okay. Nothing special that would keep me thinking about it when I leave and remind me to return. One of my favorite places to get that flavor of Mexico. I love the seafood and soup choices. Also a big fan the different types of cheeses used and the corn tortillas. I came to the restaurant after reading that they had great menudo. I was really not impressed with the flavor of the menudo I was served. The service was decent and the portions were great. I was just not at all impressed with the flavor of the menudo. I added a bunch of lime, oregano, salt, and chile and it still tasted pretty bland. They green chili was spicy, I had their chicken tacos and though they were a little dry I think it's because we came in at the very end of the day like 5 minutes before closing (oops) but they stayed open and didn't make us feel rushed at all.
