We went this weekend with friends from out of town because we love their food and usually it's a great place. This time was very very different. Our server totally screwed up our order. Leaving off an entire entree and bringing us something else we didn't even order. So after waiting for 45 minutes for food, our friends couldn't eat because their food still hadn't been delivered. Manager comes over apologized, rushed the food orders. They finally come, okay cool. We ask to split the check, it's wrong. He goes back to fix the check, it's still wrong. My friend says it's fine I'll just pay for this and I said yeah I'll Venmo you. The manager comes back out with our card, and said we "accidentally " got charged 72$ instead of 40 whatever.... He says we will see the two charges the 72 and 40 and the 72 will be refunded. No discount no nothing after completely screwing up our order. Many others have complained about service previously but this is the first time ours was abysmal. read more

We visited Los Cuates tonight for dinner while we had family in town. The restaurant itself was clean and had a welcoming atmosphere, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, the service was very slow. Dining out with a baby can already be a challenge, so quicker service would have made a big difference. We experienced quite a bit of waiting, especially for our to-go plates and the bill. Our drinks arrived after we had already finished our appetizers, some might love the fact that the margarita they served was super strong but I couldn't even drink it, we even joked about everyone tasting it so they can have a shot of it lol, and while the food tasted good, it wasn't served hot. We only ended up here because Garduño's is closed on Mondays. ‍ There's no clear host stand when you walk in, so we stood around confused for a few MINUTES before someone took care of us. They first brought salsa with the chips that was disgusting beyond all belief. It literally tasted like burnt hair, tomatoes, and sugar. We were supposed to ask for the edible salsa?!? I always come to Los Cuates with hope this time will be amazing and it leaves me feeling meh. The servers are always kind even if the service can be slow, the restaurant is clean and welcoming and I do really enjoy their chips and salsa. But the food is just ok. There's nothing bad about it but it just never leaves an impression or wows me. I got the Tostada compuesta and the size was super generous. The red was flavorful but the green chile lacked spice. There was a little square of unmelted cheese on the top which I found a little funny. After giving it shot after shot I can confidently say I dont like their margaritas. Im not sure if its the alcohol used or the syrups but something about the flavor is always off putting no matter what I order (today was prickly pear). I only ever come here when the person I am eating with chooses it but I always leave feeling very meh about it. I grew up with Los Cuates Salsa ever since they opened their first restaurant on Lomas. Loved the sweet and spicy taste unique to New Mexican salsas. In April 2026, I ordered a few jars of Los Cuates Salsa from Statewide Products, Albuquerque. That recipe has CHANGED!! The rich red color is gone; much darker now and the sweet taste is almost undetectable. Why would anyone screw with a POPULAR Burqueno staple like Los Cuates Salsa!!??? New ownership? Lost recipe? I'm just pissed off that this business would sell a Knock-Off recipe using the Los Cuates label. I'll stick with Sadies. Something changed with this restaurant. It used to be my favorite place for a long time, but not anymore after today. I ordered huevos rancheros, of course with fried eggs, and a coffee. The eggs were overcooked--they didn't have that rich, runny yolk I was expecting. The coffee was cold, and even after asking for it twice, it was still cold. I don't want to say anything negative about the waitress--I hadn't seen her before and I really missed my usual server, René. She did try, and I appreciate that. I've been going to Los Cuates for years and have never had such a terrible experience. The general manager, Mike, at the Westside location near Coors and Cottonwood was extremely rude and arrogant. They brought the wrong plate, and instead of fixing the mistake, he refused to replace it. He even said he had to personally pay for a side after telling us he would box up what we asked for. Well that never happened! To make it worse, he kept walking past the table while our waiter was trying to talk with us about the issue, If you value good customer service, I recommend going to a different location. Once again, I am at another New Mexican restaurant while visiting Albuquerque. I truly miss New Mexico food and living in northern Nevada. We have no new Mexican food places unless I cook it so I decided to try an old favorite spot this the restaurant was very nice and clean I ordered again stuff sopapilla Christmas style. When the food came out it was fresh the chile, both red and green were very flavorful and a little spicy, but not overwhelming at all had excellent flavor. The rice was OK. The refried beans were standard refried beans. Nothing to write home about the chips and salsa were very different. I felt that the salsa had a very sweet taste to it, which I was not a fan of the queso came in a little to tostada bowl, which was nice because less waste. The queso was good that had a little bit of a kick to it. Ordered a standard house Margaritaon the rocks with salt also very good overall decent effort. I probably wouldn't wanna go back to Los Cuates while I'm here, but if I come back through and I happen to pass by, I may give it another chance. read more

All and all it was fair. Had a party of 8. Service was okay. Food was bland and the soapas were like blocks. Had to send one plate back for reheating the place wasn't even that busy. We brought friends here after viewing some homes and for 1 of our party this was her first time trying "New Mexican" food. The green chile was flavorful and the red chile was perfectly spicy. End of the week, work is done so time to hit up happy hour. I was greeted as soon as I walked in. I was seated, had a menu, brought water and chips with salsa in less than 5 minutes. It is nice and quiet here, thank you. Good place to just get away for some food. You can see the mountains from the windows and the fresh snow. The staff checks on you and makes sure you have what you need and that the food meets my expectations. Was in the mood for enchiladas on blue corn. Ground beef and egg over easy! Oh and RED!! Came with rice and beans. Like that it is correct amount of chili. Some places put so much chili you can't taste the food. Chili is not hot on heat scale mild but has a sweet taste to it you don't get anywhere else. I thought the serving size was just right but turns out I could not finish it all. They play music, Mariachi, I think that's the name. You can hear the music from any location and it is great! I think just come to listen and eat would be great! I had a great experience here. The reason I'm only giving one star is because of the General Manager. He was very rude to us and told me to quit talking about my complaint so he could explain the policy. Our waiter Renee was amazing, he went above and beyond his duties. There were 11 of us and he was found the best he could to get our orders correct. One order came out wrong and the General Manager told Renee he had two options 1) pay for the meal of the person the order was messed up or 2) Get wrote up. First of all it wasn't our waiters fault and to treat an amazing person like Renee the way he did was down right disturbing. As a customer who came there to eat, I was appalled. Every once in awhile you come across a place that you say you will never eat at again. Yet for what ever reason you end up going back a few times and slowly become a fan. This place was it for me. I really like the salsa. It has a unique smoky flavor. Today it was carne asada - flavorful, not overly spiced and fajitas. The fajitas were equally tender as well spiced. This is not Tex-Mex, a concept I have had tried to remember when reviewing restaurants in New Mexico. The service has been excellent. I have called the manager over more than once because our server has gone above and beyond. So I'm a convert and a fan of Los Cuates. If you haven't been here in awhile you might want to come back. I used to go to the Los Cuates on Lina's when I lived in Albuquerque in the 90's. Any time I visit; it's one of my favorite places. My husband and I tried this location after arriving late into town. Our server (Chris?) was so friendly and welcoming even though we came an hour before close. After not being to Albuquerque for years, I'm happy to say the food is still amazing. We arrived and were told that for a party of 3 it would be a 20 minute wait. After 20 minutes they sat another party of three, and after that they sat a party of 7 both having arrived at the restaurant after us. My husband went to the host stand and found out they discarded the note that had our party on it and forgot about us. The manager was called, and they quickly cleaned a table in the bar. No other measures were taken to repair this slight against us. Unfortunately, we were there to see our friend's mariachi group play, and they were done by the time we were seated. They do not have Splenda, my preferred sweetener. So no tea for me. While waiting for our food we noticed that the bar is clearly the place where dirty dishes go to linger, not die because they were there for the hour and a half that we were there (see photo). They served the food, and we had to wait again for silverware, easily three minutes. The server walked by at least once, before someone else brought the silverware. The nachos were supposed to have beef, but they forgot that too. The carnitas were dry, and I asked for more chile. We waited 15 minutes for the chile, and had to ask for drink refills twice. My husband asked for no garnish, and it was clear that someone brushed that off the plate before it was presented, as there were lettuce leaves and tomato chunks remaining on the plate. When we were almost done eating the beef for the nachos finally arrived on the table. We had to remind the server that we should have sopapillas, and waited another 10 minutes for those. When the check came they had charged us twice for the nachos. After the ticket was "corrected " we were charged for the beef which we were told would be comped due to the tardy arrival. We were later told that it was this server's first day. She was not being shadowed. We never saw or spoke to the manager again. If you are an Albuquerque westsider, and don't have a Sunday to waste in a restaurant save yourself the time and frustration and go to Tomasita's. read more

We waited for the longest waiting for our food to come. Our food was cold by the time it came to us. It was not the best experience I'm never coming to this location ever again. We often go to Los Cuates to enjoy a meal, but yesterday was the first time we did takeout. My wife and I both ordered their chicken enchiladas. My wife likes to get hers with green chili, I like to our mine with Christmas. The portions are large, which pleases me. And I find the price to be reasonable. This is the first time we've ordered takeout. The staff were helpful and friendly. The takeoff office is clean, in keeping with the current Coronavirus guidelines. This is another place that my friend who grew up here took me to and it has a huge reminiscent value for him. I get what he means though, like it's one of those places that is not the most polished, the service can be hit or miss, and all the locals in that town have been here time and time again. Even though it has some imperfections, it has that familiar low-key local vibe that is comforting to go to (and it's places like this that you secretly have a soft spot for because you kinda like to complain just because). As for the food, for me it was pretty good and they had some additional perks. For one, they have their own salsa that you can buy that is pretty unique tasting. It's super red and really addicting to eat and hard to pinpoint the flavor that makes it special along with its sweetness. Additionally, you can get some fried bread at the end of your meal. I mean, who doesn't like tasty fried carbs? All in all, I'd recommend giving this restaurant a chance because it's really a part of the local community and makes you feel like you grew up here even if you didn't. read more
