Food is fuego! But they will mess up your order...lol. Definitely got some bomb chicken enchiladas.

I'm giving this restaurant 2 stars because this was half our fault. We failed to check the Yelp reviews before we entered. [didn't have my phone] We also chose this restaurant because there were few cars in their parking lot for a Sunday. So, there ya go . . . Half on us. Folks, the only thing remotely Mexican about this restaurant is the music they played. It seems they cater to Caucasian people / tourists who don't exactly enjoy spices of any kind. Now, I get that they're technically New Mexican food but, even that's no excuse. The food was virtually tasteless and the $16.00 Fajita Platter was a total joke. Minuscule at best. 3 pieces of green bell pepper, very few purple onions and 4 pieces of chicken. The Combination Platter with Chiles Rellenos was beyond greasy, limp and tasteless as well. Trust me, I even tasted them. My partner only ate 3 bites [total] one of each item, and quickly pushed her plate away. Even the complimentary chips and salsa were just weird? The salsa tasted as tho it's Ketchup based? So weird!? They sat us by the bathroom. Always fun. And, there was a large party seated right by us with children who screamed incessantly! And, I mean SCREAMED folks! We would have complained but, numerous others already had. There were SEVERAL promises that a manager would handle the situation but, NO manager ever arrived. The staff was beyond hurried and we never at any point saw any employee smile. Even our own waitress. Just save your money. Unless of course, you're a Caucasian with a pallet that appreciates literally nothing. Hey, some people are sensitive to spices and I can appreciate and respect that. However, if you do enjoy taste, spices, little grease, decent prices and a soothing atmosphere, save your 30 bucks + tip. Again, this is on me as well. I should have walked out the second I was forced to ask our impatient server for another ice water that didn't have a 1" tortilla [?] we think, floating in it. We're always great tippers but, this was the lowest tip we've ever left in our entire history. You'll never see us again and, if I have anything to say about it, neither will any of my friends or family. See ya! read more

Wanted to love this Los Cuates, because we really love the other locations. First time we came - it was soon after opening, food took more than 90 minutes to arrive, the order was incredibly simple - we were two people - the place was reasonably busy so even at half an hour we were understanding. Finally, they told us they had no idea when the food would be ready. We left, hungry and sad. Second time - decided to give them another chance after six months or so. We borderline enjoyed our meal, and then received sopapillas, that had a plastic prep bag cooked into them... (?) Notified the manager, who gave a half-hearted apology. A sad situation, avoid this Los Cuates (and the one in the airport, of course). read more

They have been around for a number of years at another location. The food tastes very similar to the first location. The service is good and attentive. The drinks are good and tasty. I would say that no matter which location in town you choose to go to you will find the same food and drinks as the original location. read more

Went to have lunch today at Los Cuates for the last time. On the table is advertised, Brisket Tacos, the picture looked, little pricey at $12. When the food was delivered, I mean, no joke!!, the tacos were really over saturated and dripping with grease!! I could not eat it!!! Waitress said sorry, talked with the manager. He just said well why didn't you tell your waitress, because he got no word from her. I said, I did tell my waitress and now I am telling you. He said he would give me a discount, he took $2 off. He had attitude. I ended up paying the $10 with no tip!! I just wanted to have a relaxing time, ended up leaving disappointed. read more

First visit to this location. We were huge fans of Copelands, so it was fun to see the changes within this space. Go for the food, not the ambiance or the service. The chips are very light and crisp. I like the salsa, but it is very different. It is fruity, and spicy rather than a pico de gallo. The beans were creamy and well seasoned. The margaritas are small but very tasty. I do not usually like sopapillas, but these were hot, soft, and delicious. However, it seemed as though they wanted to turn our table over quickly. The entrees came when we were just starting the appetizer round. The entire table was covered with dishes. Our entrees got cold as we raced to finish the appetizers. While the chips were served in a silver bowl, the salsa was in a little plastic cup. The silverware was very thin and seemed flimsy and cheap. For a sit-down restaurant, it seemed kind of fast food-ish. It won't be a priority for us to go back. read more

We used to be huge fans of Garduno's, and we locals don't have to be told what happened there. Garduno's hit rock bottom in more ways than one, and we West Siders were left without much in the way of great Mexican food... until Los Cuates moved in directly next to Garduno's (dun dun dun!). At first we were skeptical and drove by the place without stopping in for months. From the outside, it doesn't look like much. Garduno's has a far more interesting look. But we finally dropped in and we were floored by how good the food was. Los Cuates has an extensive menu, and they have some of the fastest table service we've ever encountered. During a busy Friday night, we managed to get seated within five minutes, ordered our food, and had it at the table in fifteen minutes flat. It was incredible! I'm sure that won't always be the case, but when this place gets busy, their kitchen staff knows how to move. The food quality here is great. The flavor is probably the best you can get in Albuquerque (we've yet to find a place that compares). The chili is always flavorful--we're fans of the red--and the salsa is unique but weirdly delicious. Visit and you'll see what we mean. read more

This was my first trip here. As I type this I know my review is going to be all over the place. Service: Service was a little slow. Although my food arrived in an acceptable amount of time the wait staff seemed over-worked and was not available when I needed something. Food: Chips & Salsa: Chips were stale and in desperate need of some salt. The salsa was horrible. Picture BBQ sauce mixed with some pace salsa, and add some sugar. I was extremely disappointed in this sweet, BBQ sauce concoction they claim in salsa. The worst part was it's for sale if you want to take it home!!! I would not normally insult other people's taste buds, but there is no way anyone could possibly think this salsa (if you want to call it that) is good enough to take home with you. Rice & Beans: Very good. I was very happy with the rice and beans. Ground Beef Enchilada's: I had them add an over easy egg and it was fantastic. The tortillas were easy to cut with a fork and the green chili sauce they covered it in was incredible. I was very pleased. Ground Beef Taco's: I had to add some green chili to the tacos because they were rather plain, but it came out pretty good. I would stick with just the enchilada's next time if you are in the mood for some tacos I would definitely recommend them. Sopaipilla: Very good. I was stuffed, but I found room for this final treat! Price: Prices were a little inflated. My wife and I ate for just over $30 (not counting a tip). Considering the chips & salsa are complimentary and we ordered enchiladas and tacos I would have really liked to have been under $30. I was tempted to try the fajita plates but could not bring myself to spend $15 for it (it was lunch time, but not the lunch menu). I would be interested in trying other menu items but everything seemed to be a few more dollars then I would like to pay, especially because you can get really good New Mexican food for two under $25 without looking very hard. Overall this visit was very close to being a four-star rating. The disappointing parts were very disappointing, but the food was really good and tasted true New Mexican. I do not doubt I will go again, hopefully willing to spend a little more on my entree, and with a little luck they will kill whoever claims that salsa is edible. read more

The food is always very good. Sometimes the service is lacking. The location at Coors has a new Manager. He spends his time barking at the staff. It's extremely unprofessional. He had to seat our family on one of our visits and we felt very unwelcome. The prices have gone up by a large margin, the hope with the price increase would be better, friendly service. Still the food is good! read more

We ate there on a Friday at 7 pm. It was busy, and we were told the wait was 30 min. We sat at the bar, ordered two drinks, and within 15 min we were at our table! Our server was great, and the live Mariachi band was very nice! As with the other reviews here, their salsa is a bad homage to chipotle/barbque/salsa that does not quite fit well together. It is different, but it is not great. That said, we ordered and shared a carne adobada combination plate and added a chicken taco. The plate came with a steak, two tostadas, and an enchilada. The food was wonderful, and the sopapillas were hot, and light/fluffy. We have been here a few times, and we consistently say it outperforms our expectations. With a glass of wine, a well drink and food, we spent about $30.00 for dinner. read more

Granted, this is the only location I've been too but it's beautiful, big and our food and service has always been good. At first I wasn't a fan of their house salsa, it's a little too pasty for me but I found that they have another, fiesta salsa that is more to my liking. Since that little discovery our meals here have been very enjoyable. It's a little on the expensive side but for the quality and service we get I don't mind. read more

So I definitely enjoyed this place! The food was really good and was what I was craving. I got enchiladas, rice and beans and would 100% return because the entree was delicious and the customer service was good. I had to take off a star because I was not impressed by their salsa or the guacamole. Both came in little cups and the guac was even an extra charge and you got the smallest amount I've ever been charged for! I was kind of shocked. Good guac but not for $2 when it was such a tiny amount. The chips were good but to be honest when I come back...I'd bring my own salsa and bowl. Most places serve a bowl of salsa with the basket of chips. I hope this place steps up their salsa game... other than that, great food! read more

Was there on Sunday night. Staff was friendly but not overtly efficient. Will go back but food was not impressive.

I am not a vegetarian and neither is my wife, but sometimes that is the mood we are in. Also, vegetarian Mexican food doesn't seem to make me feel as weighed down as the usual suspects do. I had the veggie combo plate and my wife had the veggie fajitas especial. Very tasty. With coffee it came to $30 plus tip. read more

I've been to several Los Cuates locations and always found the food to be average, if reliable, and usually very uninviting as far as ambiance. This location, way out on the frontier known as the West Side, had a much better interior than any other LC I'd been to and had a great mariachi band roving the restaurant for entertainment, but offered less tasty food than I'd had at other locations previously. I ordered the chicken enchiladas, and as I awaited their arrival, munched on the chips and salsa that I was grateful to LC for providing. I was quite hungry, and as most of my reviews note, this is to a restaurant's favor, as I am far less critical of what I eat. Thus, I didn't mind that the chips were a bit stale (and I was pleased at the tasty, if spicy, salsas that accompanied them). I enjoyed sitting at the bar, sipping a Fat Tire and enjoying the music while awaiting my food, and the chips and salsa made a dent on my hunger. When my enchiladas arrived, I was impressed by the appearance of the food, as the enchiladas were smothered in chile and the beans and rice looked great. Unfortunately, the beans were unremarkable, the Spanish rice sort of a side note (as opposed to a side dish!) and the enchiladas, though initially good, ended up being forgettable. My prinicipal criticism of these poor enchiladas was that the corn tortillas were chewy, like they'd been cooked al dente. Or, more likely, they simply were stale tortillas that had been used anyways. Not exactly the most attractive thing to realize as you nosh on any dish. All in all, the food quelled my hunger, and I enjoyed the atmosphere, so I am giving an average rating, but I'm not sure I'd be back here for the food. More likely, I'd go on a full stomach just to hang out at the bar. Although, thinking of that now, there's not much seating, so I'm not sure I'd even go back for that. I guess, this place would only serve in a pinch. read more

Los Cuates - New Mexican Cuisine Near Me - Albuquerque, New Mexico

Excellent services. Excellent food. Our waitress forgot to add chicken to my sons enchiladas but she was very apologetic and gave us a discount even though we didn't ask for one and even though we were ok with the cheese only enchiladas. Rachael I believe was her name (red hair) She was amazing! Excellent job!!!! read more

I've always loved Los Cuates as far as Albuquerque mexican food options go, but after living in Santa Fe for the past handful of years, I found it less desirable upon my return to ABQ. Their red chili is quite hot, which I enjoy. The green chili isn't hot at all, and I was disappointed in it. Dining in, you used to get a great portion to fill you up and it wasn't expensive. I haven't dined in again since returning to Albuquerque, so I'm not sure if that's still true. Our family instead loves ordering "catering" sizes from different restaurants each week or two, and unfortunately Los Cuates let us down here. The enchilada platters, while delicious, are very small and expensive. For $40, you get 12 small, single, rolled enchiladas with either chicken or beef. That's it. No sides. It claims to feed "up to 12", however no 12 people, not even children, likely, are going to be filled up on one tiny single rolled enchilada. We won't order catering again here for the lack of value for the price. read more

When went in to eat at Los Cuates and was not expecting much my wife nudged me and she said look and it was a true northern New Mexico Singer Gabriela Tafoya everyone has to hear her sing she is out of this world she was our hostess she was so nice and sweet just made our dinner great. I know they have mariachis on Sunday's just wondering if she was singing on sunday's we were afraid to ask her. The whole place was amazing seemed liked everyone loved there job and it starts with the Hostess. read more

This was the experience we needed for New Mexican food bear our home. The interior is great. Clean and well taken care of. The wait staff and manager consistently checked in on us. While I'm not crazy about their sweet salsa, everything else was excellent. The portions are huge. I had a combination platter and devoured it. My wife had New Mexico style enchiladas and relished then. My only problem is the sweet salsa. I'd like to see that served on request. However, the mariachis on Sunday and Friday evenings more than make up for it. read more

Dubious beginnings, we didn't see anyone at the bar and there was no hostess to seat us. Given, it was 2:30pm. The jalapeño margarita was the BEST I ever had and I come from the land of margaritas. It was made with fresh jalapeño. The brilliant mixologist in charge of the best flavored marg is named Duvessa. What a great introduction to this location! We also had the nachos with meat and chips and salsa. They are all good. read more

I usually love this restaurant. It does a great job with my New Mexican food fix. So it is kinda disappointing to leave this review. When we showed up at the restaurant it was nearly empty yet they sat us right in front of the kitchen doors. We asked to be moved. Which they happily did. At our next table there were black ants crawling on the booth separating wall which is wiped off with a napkin. The knife out of my silverware napkin was dirty and the table we sat at was also sticky. The wait staff was really nice and I have no complaints with them but the restaurant needs a good cleaning. read more

Excellent food, drinks and great atmosphere. Any issues and they'll sort asap. I'm not a huge fan of their salsa or sopas but the food is so good I don't care. Love the mariachis band but the acoustics in the restaurant aren't right and it makes it waaaayyy too loud. Still a great place to go though. read more

Los Cuates has always been one of those restaurants where you know you'll get great food and have great service every time! The food is very inexpensive and the quality is even better. A group of 14 of us were there on a very busy Friday night. We had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated but the food and service made up for it. Ask for Amor! She's so delightful and very attentive to all of her costumers. read more

Had a great dinner here this evening. We sat on the patio and it was very nice. Our waitress Tiffany was awesome! Very friendly and attentive. We had the cheese enchiladas and the steak fajitas. Servings were huge. Had the potatoes with the enchiladas instead of the norm and I could have eaten a whole plate of them. Loved the red chili. Not too hot. Fajita meat was tender and plenty of fajitas fixings to go with it. The manager came out and checked on us and visited a little bit. Thanks for a nice evening. We'll be be back soon. read more

If I could give the place a zero I would. The chile con queso tasted like velveta with canned chiles, and the chips were stale. I ordered a stuffes buritto christmas style, Im almost positive that red chile was from a can, the green wasnt too bad. I ate maybe 2 bites. My husband order the chimichanga, again the red chile was awful, and he said the meat tasted just like roast beef. Also please take the patio happy hour menus off the regular tables. Its decieving, and I ended up having to pay full price for a happy hour drink. read more

Great place! I'm new to Albuquerque from Washington and have been trying every local new mexican food place I can find. I was impressed by the relaxed atmosphere and the employees seemed to be happy. Los cuates at cottonwood has the worst customer service I've ever experienced in Albuquerque. Very Immature staff especially the man that stands around the female staff near the entrance. Their immaturity makes your restaurant look bad! read more

We came here on a Sunday night around 8pm. Los Cuates wasn't busy so we were seated right away and promptly attended. Chips and salsa were okay...there's something a bit off with the salsa. Not sure what it is...it was a little spicy. I ordered the Taco Salad with chicken and my date ordered the Fajitas Special. My Taco Salad wasn't the best. The shell holding the salad was sad and wilted. Also, Los Cuates could you turn the lights up a bit? I couldn't tell the difference between my lettuce and avocado because the lights were so dim. I am giving two stars because my food wasn't great, but mostly because our stomachs hurt throughout the night- something wasn't right with our food. Must've been the salsa? Not too sure...service was quick, staff wasn't too friendly. read more

I usually have a good experience when i eat here. My experience tonight: The host was nice, the food was good, the other servers were friendly, but my server (Daniel) was awful. I waited at least 45 minutes (20 Of those minutes waiting for him to give my card back after he left to close my bill). When I asked another server to check on him because I was waiting they weren't able to find him. Very ridiculous. There's no reason for him to hold onto someone's card for that long. read more

First off if I had a Mexican restaurant I'd make sure the guacamole was fresh and good. It's simple to make and delicious. We were served brown guac in a tiny plastic tub. This immediately put me off. The tacos were greasy and uninventive. The fajitas were actually pretty good. The staff were friendly but very slow. Overall it would 2 and a half stars. read more

This place was a lot different than I was expecting. The jalapeño margaritas are good. I ordered the seafood enchiladas. There was a very small amount of red chile on the enchiladas and they were mostly covered in queso. Don't get me wrong, I like queso...but I think there is a time and place for it. I don't think enchiladas are a good place to put queso. The enchiladas were tasty, but not what I consider true enchiladas. I think this place is overpriced. In my opinion, it's a bit of a tourist trap. I much prefer the numerous hole-in-the-wall Mexican and/or New Mexican food places in Albuquerque. I don't know if I'll be back. read more

Well guys, not sure what happened last night (Cinco de Mayo) but that was pretty bad. Had to wait roughly 20 minutes for a glass of water because they were "out of cups". It was 550pm, busy but not ridiculous yet. We order cocktails as soon as we receive our waters which to our surprise never showed up. They were brought to us after we had completed our meals and ready to leave. They did comp the margaritas which we did not ask them to do. I was very disappointed considering we beat the rush on what I would imagine is the busiest night of the year for local Mexican food restaurants. All my prior visits were wonderful, so we will try it again eventually. read more

The food here is ok, kinda pricey for Albuquerque. The margaritas are good, but way overpriced.
