Even though the staff were extremely busy, they were warm, attentive, and incredibly accommodating throughout our meal. Now, for the food: the homemade green salsa is hands-down the star of the show--it was completely incredible! The tacos were packed with rich, authentic flavor, and the overall pricing was very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. This place has easily become one of my favorite Mexican spots. I will definitely be back next time I'm in town!

Make sure you take the time to walk around and see the entire property--it is HUGE! It feels like you're stepping into a beautiful Spanish-style hacienda, yet it still manages to feel warm, homey, and down-to-earth. The restaurant is very spacious, has beautiful areas for events, and is also dog-friendly. We made reservations, and I definitely recommend doing the same--you NEED them! We were seated right away, and our server was attentive, friendly, and made our experience even more enjoyable. Now, the food! I loved that you can order your chile "Christmas" style and get both red and green. And FYI--endless chips and salsa! The margaritas were strong and delicious, exactly how a margarita should be. I highly recommend the chicken enchiladas. The chicken was moist, tender, and perfectly shredded. The tacos were also great, and the mole chicken was delicious. My only wish is that the menu offered a few more seafood options. Between the atmosphere, great service, delicious food, and margaritas, El Pinto was such a fun New Mexico experience. My parents lived in ABQ for years and always thought that the atmosphere was great, but the food was so-so. However, on this instance, we all thought the food was quite good. Flavorful carne adovada, although it was a bit tough. Red chile sauce was spicy but had great flavor. The green chile sauce was hot and tasty. Posole was also good. The gold margaritas were also good - to anyone complaining about the price - at $14.50, the price is very fair considering the cost of ingredients. If you want a cheap junk margarita that is more sugar than anything else, go somewhere else! Our gripe... The place is huge and has an abundance of great places to seat guests. We had a pretty large group - 7 people celebrating a family reunion of sorts. However, they sat us right next to the bussing station that had noisy carts, dishwashers, and other distractions. It was so loud, it was hard to hear the person across the table. There were at least 10 other tables that they could have seated us at! It seems to me that this area should be used only when the restaurant is completely full. This seems to be a poor management decision rather than the fault of the servers or hosts.

A server met us, took our drink order, and we placed a few appetizer orders. We got some chile con queso, and the chicharron. They initially brought out the queso in two small plastic to-go containers. I was not very thrilled with that. Then, when we polished them off, they brought out some more in a small serving dish. Why we didn't get the dish in the first place is beyond me. The queso was good, but I didn't think much of the chicharron. My husband like it though. The server did an excellent job keeping our drinks filled. We placed our order, and it wasn't too long that our orders came out. I got the combination plate, red sauce, ground beef taco. My husband thought he ordered the enchilada plate, but the chile relleno plate came out instead. He told them that was fine. The ground beef taco was so delicious. The chile relleno was pretty good, and the cheese enchiladas were okay, even though it was like they were barely there. The pinto beans, not refried beans, were also enjoyed. What really set them apart was their papas - those potatoes were soft and super flavorful. Their red sauce was spicy and flavorful. The server brought out two fresh and hot sopapillas. We poured honey on those things bite by bite. I honestly think those were the best sopapillas I've had. I also used the restroom before we left. It might need a little updating, but it was certainly clean.

The menu is interesting but there were a few items unavailable. I got the taco with ground beef. The dish was thrown together and lacked presentation. I tried the ground beef alone so get a grip on their seasoning, what I found was a total lack of seasoning. I'm sure they want thou to depend on the chili sauces but hey, add a little something. Luckily there's 3 shakers in the table. The red stuff is a must add to the Indian taco!!! Oh and BTW, ask for extra cheese because it was hard to detect on my dish. Look, I ate it and didn't hate it, the fried bread is the reason I waited 66 minutes for my table. The dining area is great, very indigenous and really enjoyable. People seemed happy and if you visit the museum eating at the restaurant completes the tour. The ladies in Indian garb adds to the ambiance. I've had American Indian food before and it was far better. This place seemed geared towards the tourists and they seem to lay back on flavor. There are cameras outside around much of the building that repeatedly audibly warn you that you are being recorded, which was a bit funny but fine. As others have written, you need to enter from the side door. The people working clearly did not love that we arrived with a larger group, but they nonetheless accommodated us after about a 15 minute wait. The restaurant was HOPPING, with others also waiting for tables. They apparently are a bit famous for their Mexican wedding cake, which they told us is nearly always gone by noon. The overall place was down-home, spanning two large rooms, and relatively brightly lit due to the big windows. I ordered the large combo plate, which came with a beef taco, a cheese & onion enchilada, and a chile relleno with Christmas (red and green) chile sauce. There were also refried beans and rice on the side. Food came in maybe 10-15 minutes. The beef taco was good--nicely ground meat, good fresh veggies on top. No unusual toppings and no salsa or the like, but good. The cheese & onion enchilada was fine--not my favorite, but it was alright. However, for me, the delight was the chile relleno with the chile sauce: absolutely scrumptious. If I came back, I'd just order that, or maybe 2, or maybe 3. So good, so flavorful. The chile sauce was a bit spicy for me, but I absolutely loved its flavor. Service was good especially given how crowded it was. They still checked on us and brought us drink refills. The biggest delight was the price. With tip and tax, I think we paid around $74. Not bad at all for a big dinner for 5 people! I'd recommend, especially if you go for the chile rellenos!

This was, without question, the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. From the moment we arrived, everything went downhill. The host's behavior was completely unacceptable! I left my purse by my brother and he didnt know, so when she sat him she came back and saw my purse there and instead of bringing it to us, she instead helped herself to all the cash in my wallet. Then proceeded to put it in the lost and found. I noticed my purse was gone after a few minutes and ran to ask her if she had it, as the restaurant was completely empty. She had smiled at me and said yes I put it in the lost and found, I had no idea I had been robbed. On top of that, our server seemed visibly unhappy and uninterested in providing us service. As if that weren't enough, the ceiling next to our table actually collapsed. It was shocking and could have seriously injured someone. Instead of taking responsibility or showing genuine concern, management handled the situation poorly. The manager confronted the host and fired her on the spot without letting me know, which gave this woman the opportunity to run out the restaurant with my money furthermore, they did not even call the police on her. I had to do that myself, I am unfamiliar with the area and asked the server for the restaurants address, he said he didnt know and threw a togo bag at me to figure which of the 3 addresses we were at all while om on the phone with a dispatcher. Instead the manager came and told me they were only liable to fire her, and couldn't do anything else to help me. Not to mention this all occurred on my brother in laws birthday that we were there celebrating for. After everything we experienced--including an obvious safety hazard--they still refused to comp our meal or make any meaningful effort to make things right. Charging customers full price after an experience like that shows a complete lack of accountability and concern for guests. I would never return and cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are plenty of places that value their customers' safety and treat them with respect--this isn't one of them. I would have given a 0 but was unable. read more

If you're ever in Albuquerque and craving authentic, mouth-watering Mexican food, Los Cuates is a must-visit. He checked in regularly, made great recommendations, and ensured our glasses (and chips!) were never empty. It's rare to find someone so passionate about providing great service--Rene deserves a shout-out for going above and beyond. As for the food? Absolutely phenomenal. Every dish was rich in flavor and beautifully prepared--from the homemade salsa and fresh guacamole to the sizzling fajitas and enchiladas that melted in your mouth.
