The captain crunch tenders had just a hint of sweetness. Like I wouldn't have known it was captain crunch in an unmarked test but that doesn't mean they weren't still good! Nice a crispy. I enjoyed the hand cut sweet potato fries. They really are hand cut in all shapes so you can get a super crunchy one and a softer one that you can really taste the flavors of the sweet potato. My friends enjoyed the maple mayo and said he tasted the maple more than the mayo flavors. They also liked the chicken sandwich and the local burger. The facility was overall sticky. If it wasn't raining outside we would have enjoyed the large outdoor seating area instead. read more

Delicious food and good choices. Outdoor seating and you order by scanning the QR code at your table. The staff brings your food and drinks and then sort of ignores you. There's a station where you get condiments and utensils. Our server forgot to bring one of our drinks so we had to go inside and get it. There were no napkins at the station so we got those inside too. You bus your own tables. At the end I wondered why I tipped the same amount i would have at a full service restaurant. Our meal was good though and there was live music playing on Strong Avenue, multiple dogs for our little to say hello to, and a general summer party feeling. I also found the tables and chairs to be very sturdy and comfortable, as opposed to the flimsy kind you might find at some outdoor places. As a plus sized person I appreciated that. read more

I've been going to local burger for more than a decade. It's my favorite burger place in the valley - an old school hamburger joint feel. Food is fresh and made to order - I'm a big fan of the the poutine on the side of whichever hamburger I'm feeling. The shakes are good too! Place is small on the inside, but ambiance has a nice vibe. Well what a treat. Stopped in the town just to stretch our legs on the way to Stowe, and sort of just stumbled into this place. We were looking for salads but instead got two burgers and fries. I had the grass fed burger cause hero, and my wife had a portobello burger cause salad. Both were quite enjoyable. We got a small fries to split cause health and it was so big we couldn't finish it. This is by far my favorite burger place ever. I always order the Westhampton burger, pink, with everything on it, and it is perfect every time. The regular fries are awesome but the sweet potato fries (served with maple mayo) are out-of-this-world good. The onion rings are gigantic, the fried pickles are the best anywhere, the mac n cheese bites are yummy, and the Cap'n Crunch chicken fingers are AMAZING. Mm, I have to dispute the $$ rating. See, Northampton is a college town, and like such places do, the local businesses soak the students hard. Northampton's especially prone to the syndrome, so there really AREN'T inexpensive places to grab a bite ... not when everyone's expecting the Smith students to walk in waving daddy's credit card. Local's one of the rare exceptions. You'd think they'd be waving around $20 "economy" burgers, but that's not the case at all. They serve a good burger, with a number of options, no fuss, no muss. There's a fair range of sides, a good range of beverages, and a kids' menu (something you also seldom see in Noho). It *is* a burger joint; don't expect more than that. But it's also the most inexpensive meal you can get in the downtown, and it's a good one to boot. read more

As someone who eats at a burger joint once per week, I know a good burger when I taste one...and this place doesn't serve 'em. The burgers always have a weird butane like taste to them. Have never experienced this at any other burger spot. The only reason they don't get one star from me is because their Cap 'N Crunch tenders and poutine are good. Local Burger, located on the corner of Main and Pearl Street, is excellently situated to serve denizen pedestrians and also truckers from far away. When I walked through the door, I immediately felt peaceful and pleased in their very chic yet laid-back atmosphere. Traditional black diner stools and black powder-coated dining room chairs dot the checkerboard floor, and the electronic jukebox plays everything from long Beatles playlists to jazz. The menu, written on a wraparound chalkboard near the cashier, is full of excellent options for meatavores and vegetarians alike (don't quote me, vegans, but I think you can eat the fried sides because they're made with peanut oil). There's a case of cold beverages (non-alcoholic, though they have a license to BYO), as well as a self-serve fountain drink station. Order at the counter and the nice folks - including the owner - that ring you up will ask you if you want your burger "pink" or "not pink." The lack of pretension is as appreciated as the quality of the offerings. This is not a greasy spoon, but is as welcoming as any I've ever been to. Regular and sweet potato fries - as well as onion rings, chicken wings, and fried pickles - come to your table in a traditional red or black plastic diner basket, lined with black-and-white checked paper that matches the floor. What else comes to your table? If you're me, it's likely to be a burger made from animals who lived and grazed freely...less than ten miles from the grill. The organic chicken and beef comes from Chicoine Farm, a local organic farm, and there are non-local choices for the meat, as well, but I've never tasted any of it. This restaurant sources as much of its raw materials from local purveyors as it can, and I personally want to eat as much locally/family-owned restaurant goodness as I possibly can (I belong to the local food co-op and have a CSA farmshare...when it's not wintertime, sigh). The portions of sides (I've had the beer-battered onion rings, sweet potato fries, regular potato fries, and fried pickles) are very generous. Everything has such a robust taste. The burgers are served on sesame-seed buns that are always very soft, and quite adequately soak up most of the juice from my pink patties. The meat itself is not overseasoned, which is wonderful, since the taste of local, organic meat really *is* incredible. It's fresh, and doesn't hang in my mouth like lesser burger tastes can. I usually get a local hamburger with cheddar cheese, tomatoes, and lettuce. This is enough to fill me up when I'm famished, but not so much that I feel like I'm going to have meat fever afterwards (you know, that sweaty, raised-temperature feeling you get when you eat too much tasty tasty meat?), which is always a plus. The size of the burger - I never have a ruler with me when I eat at Local Burger, but it looks to be about 5.5" in diameter - leads to me dripping meat juices all over myself unless I 1) wrap the burger's butt in a napkin, or 2) cut the burger in half. I've never taken home a doggy bag. Tonight, one of the owners gave us a chocolate chip cookie to try; he said they're considering adding fresh cookies to their menu. It was perfect: soft, with a heady vanilla taste, and a little salty crispiness at the very outermost edge. I always think, "I'm going to get a veggie burger this time," because I love veggie burgers, but then I always get the same local beef burger. How can I resist? They're so, so good. This is a place where people can and definitely do spend a lot of no-pressure time hanging out, talking, reflecting on the delicious food, whatever - it's a nice place to spend time with your friends. I think this must be an excellent destination for college students; if you're hungry, it probably seems like it's a little far of a walk from Smith campus, like many eateries on this end of town, but if I had Local Burger when I was a student, I would have gotten off of my lazy backside and hoofed it over here with great regularity. The only things I can say that are in any way *not* completely glowing are related to things I wish they had on the menu, all of which involve ice cream! We have a LOT of locally-made ice cream in the Valley, and when I think of diners and traditional burger/American fare, I think milkshakes, soda floats, and sundaes. Maybe if enough customers request access to local ice cream, it'll happen. Hint! There's free and strong wi-fi, which makes me wonder why in the world I don't see more laptops. I feel like this is an as-yet-undiscovered jewel that I hope continues to succeed. Every time I come in here, I feel great. The combination of delicious local (literally) food and supporting a thriving local economy makes a great backdrop for all of the wonderful times I've had here thus far. It's definitely my favorite restaurant on this site (where the crèperie, Fire Grill, and several other spots had been over the years), and I look forward to seeing it grow. read more

OMG - the burgers, fries and onion ring here are insane. This is not a fast food burger joint, but with their effieciency and quickness, it could be. Buddy and I placed our orders and no joke, our food was on our table within 5 minutes flat. I had the Green chile burger and I had a hard time finishing it due to it's sheer size. They need to re-name the onion rings here, they weren't rings, more like beer-battered onion hoops, they were THAT huge, I could barely eat two because they were so big and so filling. Just walk into this place and the smell is intoxicating (only if you like meat of course). We ordered burgers, fries, and fried pickles. It was pretty busy when we went in but timing is everything so beware if you are in a hurry. The burger was really good, juicy and flavorful, and they had a gluten free bun option (and actually had it in stock unlike other places that list it but don't really have it). The best part was the fried pickles. First, they were NOT spears, which I think do not work, but chip form. The coating was perfect. You know how sometimes when you bite into something coated, it falls apart or worse the whole thing coated comes out and you are left with just coating. This pickle had a perfect crunch and you were able to bite through perfectly. Also we never even got our 2nd order of drinks at all, so I went in to get them 25 minutes later and was given the biggest attitude for it by the miserable middle-aged, unhappy-with-life cashier. We come here very often. Love the food and the spot it's at. They have one young man, if you are unlucky and get him to take your order, you will be frustrated. He has been high every time I saw him! I have no issue with people smoking weed, drini, doing what you want or need to enjoy yourself, but not while you're working! I had to repeat myself a few times! He asks and looks away! Then will have to repeat because he says: What? That really annoyed me so much, if I did not have people with me,sitting waiting to eat, I would have walked away.
