We visited here on Saturday evening April 18. 2026. This place was highly recommended by our friends from the German-american Club of Albany (NY). Half our party had been here many previous times & for the other half, it was our first time. This day they were hosting their annual wild game feast in the banquet hall. 50+ people attended this event. Munich Haus has 20 or so special events per year. Our party of six was here for dinner. Our server was the spunky Maria who made this a memorable dinner. We were here for their famous schnitzels. A hearty meal excellently prepared and served eight ways. Comes with soup or salad and choice of two sides (i.e. spaetzle, potato pancakes, sauerkraut, red cabbage, or chef's vegetable). Also you can get a schnitzel sampler of 3 varieties. WOW! Also offered are sauerbraten, rouladen, chicken Reisling, braised lamb shanks, a variety of wursts (sausages) and delicious dessets. It's simply WUNDERBAR! I come here every few years because I love German food, when I am in the mood. I've always liked it…read more... this time it was so-so. The food was a 3 star affair, at the most. Staff was 5 star. Atmosphere, 4 stars. The menu here is almost exactly same as the famous Student Prince restaurant in Springfield. Parking is much easier but I prefer the Student Prince's old school 1940's decor. The prices are similar ... high. 3 p.m. dinner only menu. Seriously?? The prices are double vs. lunch. Who eats dinner at 3 p.m. Those 10 minutes in between 2:50 pm and 3:00 pm cost me about $25 extra. The worst part of my meal ... Apple Strudel dessert. This isn't apple strudel. It's a weird thin-skinned apple pie with a lot of almost creamy chopped apple filling. The filling seems to contain cream of some sort and tasted a bit sour/spoiled. There is no satisfying crispiness or crunch ... it's a sloppy mess. Definitely recommend not getting this. Jager Schnitzel ... The brown gravy sauce with mushrooms was fantastic. However, there wasn't enough of it and the pork was dry and pounded way too thin, so it felt a little like eating a piece of cardboard with panko breading. Spaetzel ... Great. On the small side but perfectly buttered and tasted great. Red cabbage was also very good. Salad ... Came with the meal but I was charged $3 more for Roquefort cheese dressing. Wasn't told about the upcharge ... but the other options for dressing weren't very exciting. The Roquefort is a few crumbles of cheese mixed into sweet Russian dressing. Probably would just go with a regular dressing. The staff was great and the waitress was so perky and helpful. The host was extremely nice and accommodating. Nothing bad to say about the staff here ... they are probably the only reason I am giving 4 vs. 3 stars. The prices seem very high ... $19 for 2 sausages ... $26 for Schnitzel ... $14 - $19 for appetizers. $13 pretzel. It's all high quality stuff for sure. But, after tip, my bill was $60 for Schnitzel, a beer and a so-called Struedel. I guess that's kind of everywhere these days though. If you like German food, which is hard to find, they've been doing it for a long time. It's good ... but nothing amazing. The restaurant is clean ... staff is nice ... and menu is unique and authentic. Beer list is good and though $9 each, it comes in a tall glass ... 22 ounces?

I start reading about this spot, Student Prince is an authentic German restaurant. I speak fluent beer so my choice is now made up. I had a big lunch so I figured I'd drink a pint of good German beer and a small plate before I'm on my way. Yeah right! My waitress was fantastic, she was suggesting all these great dishes but I didn't have the room. I started with a tap beer and Jägerschnitzel (Schnitzel with Mushroom Gravy, my favorite) the dish came with two sides, sauerkraut and spaetzle. The Jägerschnitzel is a big cutlet, there is a lot of food on my plate. I take a bite of Jägerschnitzel along with some sauerkraut. I take it slow and I was able to knock it all out. The Jägerschnitzel was very good, this is a fantastic spot. The restaurant feels very authentic, from the booths to the bar, they did a great job in recreating a German pub. My waitress kept coming over to make sure I'm ok. She told me to make some room because the Strudel shouldn't be missed. I'm told it's also topped with vanilla ice cream. Another great dish and highly recommended. Student Prince, I don't get the name. I'm glad I found this spot on Yelp. If you want a great German restaurant, Student Prince is a must.

For my main I had the Cornish Hen in a cream sauce. The meat was crispy and the cream sauce flavorful. For dessert I shared the apple strudel which was a very healthy serving. It was a BLAST! The food was excellent and authentic (according to the German girl!) and the ambience was perfect. We came here for my husband's birthday dinner, as we were in the area for a getaway. We were both stationed in Germany back in the day, and he has a particular adoration for German food. And that German food MUST COME WITH SPAETZLE, which is the German version of noodles. Of course he also needs the breaded cutlet, but it all goes together for him: cutlet, gravy, spaetzle. As a vegetarian, German food is often harder for me, and so I really only had one entree choice: the potato pancake, although I believe that wasn't the official name for it. My husband's entree didn't come with spaetzle, but there was a kids meal with it and perhaps it came with other entrees, I can't remember, but we assumed he could switch his side to spaetzle and everyone would go home happy. Au contraire. We went for the appetizer, entree, desert pricing since everything was on the more expensive side and this way we'd just choose from each selection without thinking about the cost. The first problem occurred when we asked if the German pretzel, our favorite share starter, could take the place of one of our appetizers. After all it was the same price or cheaper, AND it's a gd appetizer, after all. Isn't it? No. We were not allowed to do that. So we skipped the pretzel, trying to keep our birthday cheer afloat. Tis but a fleshwound, right? Next he was told he could not substitute spaetzle for the side that came with his entree. Why not? We got a shrug. Then we asked if he could just buy a side of it. We were told it wasn't on the side list so no, he couldn't get a side of it. Imagine! You are told at a German restaurant you can't even BUY THE GERMAN FOOD YOU WANT AS A SIDE. Even though they have it there. At this point we were irritated. But it's his birthday dinner. So we just ordered from the menu and attempted to move on and enjoy the experience. Then the food comes out. It's absolutely delicious! The asparagus appetizer I'd selected was incredible, and my potato entree superb. Hub's portion of cutlet was generous, and he said his whole meal was on point. (With the exception of the missing spaetzle, of course.) We both had the apple streudel for desert, and the flavor was there, but it was super cold, unlike many we've gotten warm and delicious. We weren't a fan of it cold. The atmosphere was nice, and the waitress did a decent job of filling our orders, but seemed to have no empathy for our needs or desires. This all left me torn as to what rating to give the restaurant. The food we got was mostly amazing, except for the temperature of the dessert. I'd give it five stars in a heartbeat. The inflexibility to make the most basic efforts to keep your guests happy: allowing the pretzel to be included in the appetizer choices, and allowing a guest to swap a side for spaetzle or even allowing them to buy it as an extra side seemed to the point of insanity. Isn't the point of having a restaurant to serve people good food in a nice atmosphere so everyone is happy? Someone there has lost the plot. I'd give them a zero if I could for ruining my husband's birthday dinner with this ridiculous behavior. So I settled for a three. This three neither addresses the excellence of the food we ate or the basic failure to keep their guests happy. I hope they stay in business but learn to be flexible. It's not becoming.

My fiance and I spent his entire birthday dinner marveling that nothing was done about a medium rare steak that came out medium/medium well (butcher issue to be fair... one end was worse). When I pointed out the steak was overdone, the server said... "It is?"... and looked at me as if I were wrong; that was the worst part. I've never been uncomfortable being honest about my steak when done incorrectly before, but here we are. So I didn't feel I could ask for a new one without lots of grumbles from staff. I was no longer hungry for anything else as offered, but would've loved the chef to insist on preparing a new one with a warm red center instead of pink. Not even one of our two (nonalcoholic) drinks was comped. At least our dog got lucky since I couldn't eat it. We just can't go back, and that's too bad, because everything else was fine.

There used to be numerous German restaurants in NYC and throughout upstate NY, but over the years those numbers have dwindled substantially to a handful.  A relatively new addition to the local Hudson Valley dining scene Jaeger Haus was started in 2018 (in a 70 year old restaurant building) and serves up seriously tasty and authentic tasting German beer, wine, and food.  We've dined there a few times over the last two years of visiting this year--the mood is relaxed, the beer is delicious, and food remind us of our travels to Germany and Austria.  The menu is tight and by that I mean it's focused on what they do well--which is traditional German food. While I wish they might add a few classic German appetizers to their menu for variety, their range of entrees provides ample choice and I am slowly making my way through those selections. Lola, one of our servers for the evening, quickly took our drink orders.  I ordered a mug of Hofbrau Original Lager (on tap) and after being given a tasting, my wife ordered a pint of Hofbrau Weissbier (which is similar to the sort of wheat beer she occasionally enjoys).  So refreshing.  A basket of house-made thinly sliced Roggenbrot (rye bread) arrived soon after our drinks with softened butter, lightly sprinkled with sea salt. We passed on the appetizers, knowing that our entrees would be substantial.  My wife ordered the Wienershcnitzel which comes with braised red cabbage and house-made spaetzle lightly sauced with a cream gravy.  These are classic sides which one can find served in restaurants from Vienna or Munich to Heidelberg or Berlin.  I ordered exactly the same thing (having tried other dishes on our prior visits), except I ordered my Wienerschnitzel "a la Holstein" (with a fried local farm egg).  The egg, especially the large yolk, provides an added level of lusciousness to the crispy veal.   Our meals arrived in due course.  They were gorgeous to look at and ate even better than they looked.  The spaetzles were soft and fluffy, the red cabbage was rich and well spiced, and the veal . . . the veal was heavenly.  Crisp on the outside, fork tender on the inside, dipping into a bit of the egg yolk (in my case); goodness what a delightful taste sensation. Just delicious.  We both earned "clean plate" certificates tonight--suitable for framing--felt satiated, but not overly full (which is where we like to end a meal).  We nursed our beers a bit longer, sharing memories from this special day, paid our bill (the bill encouraged customers to tip in cash, which we did), thanked the staff, bid the co-owner "danke schön und Wiedersehen" and we were on our way.

All four of us were so impressed with the dishes we ordered. Presentation and portions were amazing. The flavors, and seasoning was perfection! Attention to detail, going the extra mile, and the joy and pride of the food we were served.. The two young men, one a chef were also so kind and service they gave us was the best and we were so impressed. From the homemade wine, the plate of several different kinds of bread, the salad, the stuffed cabbage and kielbasa appetizer we shared, we all couldn't stop praising how delicious they were. Our dinners were, Ukraine goulosh, chicken Pakash?, rib eye stroganoff, and chicken parmasan. The pastas are made from scratch and ohhh...so billowy soft and best ever. We all had a lot of leftovers to take home as portions were quite large. On the way home we were already talking about other dishes we want to try on our next visit.
