Food and drinks are great but don't expect to get either in the first 45 minutes to an hour of getting there. I've been here twice and both times I've gone I've gotten some of the worst bar service I've ever seen. The bartenders will straight up walk around pretending to be busy instead of acknowledging your existence or taking your order. I am a bartender in Manhattan so I know what it means to be busy behind the bar during a rush but both times I went the restaurant was basically empty. My girlfriend and I ordered food and after about 50 minutes of waiting for it, I went up to the bartender and asked if it was coming out anytime soon and his exact words back to me were "probably not." The space feels like a relatively traditional German beer garden. The food, on the other hand, feels much less authentic. The staff did the bare minimum and they were out of most of the things we were hoping to try. Maybe better in the summertime, but our experience wasn't great, unfortunately. I don't dislike this Wolff's Biergarten, but I do prefer the one in Schenectady. The beer and atmosphere are just as good, but it felt like some things were off or missing. And that started with peanuts, or scarcity of them. Maybe I didn't look around enough, but I also didn't even see shells on the floor, were folks eating them? Once you order your food and your drink at the bar, you of course get your beer quickly, and the meals come out relatively quickly. But my 2 companions both order wurst, and one said his were still cold in the middle. Fries are plentiful, crisp, but salty and spicy (as in "Have another beer?" spicy). It's a really good spot for darts, though I miss the shuffleboard option, or whatever it's actually called. And this is still the best spot in the area for German beer. read more

I've only been here three times all on Sunday mornings or early afternoon to watch F1 and English Premier League. Every time has been an awesome crowd great bartenders and lots of fun.. it's a beer hall with bar food and they also have a Sunday brunch menu but this place isn't for the faint hearted. When you walk through the door things seem strewn in random places, but i wasn't put off by that. I was however put off by the fact the whole place smells like bathroom cleaner. Not appetizing. And while I appreciate the peanut shells being placed on the tables them not being cleaned up when the tables are empty again left me thinking, how clean is this bathroom smelling, unkempt restaurant? I worked in the industry in Boston, with much time spent at the Hard Rock Cafe, among others. By far the worst trivia I've ever been too. Unless you are a male country hick this trivia is not for you. The categories are limited to movies made before 2000 and obscure sports questions. It became unenjoyable when clearly the demographic this trivia was targeted to be was limited. Service was good and food was basic for a bar. Nothing science or pop culture related. And I don't think a women appeared in the screen once. Unintelligent media created by men was the only relevant material displayed. We were in Albany for the Bruce Springsteen concert t MVP arena. We were told that the city beer hall next to the area wasn't taking reservations; so we figured we'd get there early (4:30) and the host very snarkily told us it would be a 3 hour wait. We saw that wolffs was a 22 minute walk so we walked to this great biercafe. Unassuming, casual, not ridiculously crowded, and friendly. The bartender was very nice and quickly took our orders. Beers were generously poured and smash burgers were delicious!! The roll was so lovingly grilled in butter; topping were placed with care and love. I was so glad that we came here. Would highly recommend!! As for the city beer hall-it was like a circus; and they don't really seem to care about their patrons. read more

Love this place! Stopped by here in between a birthday brunch/ axe throwing. We had an hour to kill time and were driving towards Fort Orange Brewing, saw this spot along the way and stopped the car. Boy am I happy that we did. The birthday girl got a free, FREE, boot filled with beer (Harp). Staff was very friendly, dogs everywhere, big spacious layout. Decor inside is really cool. Looking forward to come back her during the summer/ warmer seasons to sit outside or when the doors are open to let the fresh air in. I find it hard to believe I have never reviewed Wolff's Biergarten. I have spent countless evenings here with birthday boots, whether it is mine or a friend. It's tradition. It's a highlight of living in this area, and always has been. I went here for my 21st, this year for my 30th, and just about every birthday in between. *birthday boot means you can come here on your birthday and get a huge, free boot of beer! It's rare that I'll review a place without food, but this place is so infamous, it deserve recognition. I would say they pace back and forth between serving food and not. Several years ago all they had to offer was peanuts that you shuck and toss of the floor, then I remember some wursts offered, then a full menu, and now since COVID they really just have peanuts and a couple quick snacks like pretzels. It's barely worth mentioning, but I figured I'd let you know. Also as an update, they definitely accept cards now, even for the birthday boot deposit, which is $40 that you get back as long as you don't break the boot! Another update, they serve so many more beer and drink options than they used to! The offerings used to be just German beers, which took some knowledge, trial and error, or a great bartender to figure out. I always opted for the Franziskaner. Now they offer everything from their German beers, IPA, domestic beers and cocktails. There is something for everyone which makes coming here with a group of friends for you birthday so much better! You come here for a great night and atmosphere. There are games! I love coming here and playing some darts or shuffleboard. If you want a German biergarten this is not the place. If you want a loud, rowdy college bar this is your place. The first problem is that Wolf 's suffers from an issue that I have with many other places. While they advertise on their website is that they're open to a certain hour they close their kitchen hours beforehand and do not mention it. So I came here looking forward to some bratwurst only to find that their Kitchen closes 3 hours earlier than they advertised. And then we get into the issue if the clientele. The crowd is very loud, drunk and obnoxious. More of a college crowd than anything else. Even enjoying a beer was difficult given the atmosphere. If you are looking for a place to have a good German beer and food, and enjoy your company this is not the place. If you're looking for a place with rowdy College students this is perfect. On Oct 1, 2021 we had a surprise going away party for a co-worker moving to Colorado. The manager Carl, was so accommodating to us that he even gave us the whole back of the restaurant. The bartenders at the change of shifts were also very pleasant, and were very nice to us. All had a great time and would highly recommend Wolff's in Albany, for any type of gathering. This is the type of laid back casual Biergarten full of locals and the younger crowd. Peanut shells on the floor, with bar seating, tables seating and high tops spread around the place. The drinks and food are ordered at separate areas. The bar of course is the main focus with lots of familiar German beers. Prices are very reasonable for beer with the cheapest glass being around $5. The bartender that served us the beer was very knowledgeable on recommendations and they let you sample a little bit of the beer to be sure you like it before you buy a glass. We also had some of the food sharing the two brats and two sides which was plenty for the the two of us. We also had the pretzel sticks with bier cheese and spicy mustard. What's also cool is they have a darts wall and some board games you can play with friends while drinking some beers. If you plan to go here, keep in mind to bring cash since they are cash only. This is from the same guy who brought us Bomber's? If you told me that, I would call you a dirty liar. But then, I'd be wrong. How can one place feel so authentic with good food and attention to detail while the arguable more popular restaurant's eponymous dish is barely edible. Seriously, you would have to pay me to eat another Bomber's burrito. But I just went to Wolff's for lunch, and I will gladly pay again and again for the privilege of coming here. Good food, stripped of pretense, in a shrine to all things Germanic. Beer, sausage, schnitzel, and spaetzel. But on second thought, there are a few elements that seem off the mark (so to speak): Darts I associate with English pubs. Peanuts I associate with American roadhouses. Ping pong and their music selection I associate with fraternity houses. On my first visit, I asked if the wurst plates could be split, so instead of two of the same sausage, I might try a broader swath of their offerings. I was told if I wanted the safe choice that I should try the Knockwurst. So I asked what if I didn't want the safe choice? So I was directed to the Bratwurst, a smoked pork and veal sausage that is cooked in beer and pan seared. The Weiswurst also qualified as a more daring pick, a white Bavarian veal and pork sausage that has been boiled. The Weiswurst stole the show. Tender, juicy, delicately seasoned. I asked the man behind the bar what beer would go best with my food and we discussed stylistic preferences. He ultimately steered me to the Wurzburger Pilsner which went beautifully with the Weiswurst. The German mashed potatoes were a bit disappointing. Yes they have bacon. But the bacon just wasn't working very hard. I don't know how bacon gets lost in potatoes, but in this case it did. I would have preferred a nice tangy German potato salad. I can't wait to get back there and try more food, drink more beers, and play a round of honest to goodness darts. The electronic dartboards they have elsewhere are just an embarrassment. Great place to visit if you're an English football fan. You'd often find team supporters on every match day which adds to the atmosphere. There's a great variety of beer and food items on the menu. Wednesday night at 10pm was about half full and almost felt like the crowd and partying was just starting, with a layer of peanut shells covering the floor. Had the veal and chicken schnitzel and a side of Brussels sprouts, all excellent. Great selection of draft on tap and bottled beers, local and from around the world. Dart boards in the back of the beer garden, TVs with baseball and soccer, literal buckets of roasted plants in the tables, or is this our German sports bar? Cash only but there is an ATM on the premises. Food and Bar are self service and cash only. Come prepared for a casual rocking German style beer garden. I liked almost every aspect of this restored firehouse, German beer hall with family style picnic table seating. Peanut shells scattered throughout the flooring invites those who enjoy eating peanuts to eat them, swipe em off the table, and let them fall onto the floor. So don't wear your favorite shoes! Each table has a large bin of peanuts to share while waiting for food. The line had formed around the cash register while the 8 of us were studying the menu. We were told that they only accept cash and there is an ATM towards the back. Good thing for us..we appreciated being able to pay for our orders separately and were told the food would be delivered right to our table when ready. It's opposite side was the bar that boasts itself with German beers and a few ciders. The bartender was nice enough to let me sample some beers before I took my final pick. In the surrounding you will note a ping pong table, shuffleboard, and some dartboards with real darts. Best thing about it is that they don't charge...they only require keeping an ID/license at the bar until you return the borrowed item. Our group shared many of the items we ordered including potato pancakes (served with side of sour cream and applesauce), red cabbage, sauerkraut, wursts (with a side of mustard), schnitzels, salad, fries (very well seasoned!), and wings...we had a pretty good spread I'd say. I did not meet anything I didn't like in our spread. Considering this is more of a pub than an actual beer garden the food was very good! So if you like a casual and fun time with a few and don't mind trying German style food this place will not leave you unsatisfied. Our group all agreed we had a great time! DAS BOOT!!!! Best place to go if you enjoy beer, but more craft beers not a Keystone/Bud fan bc this will definitely be a bit on the strong side for you. But anyway, best place for b-day beer because for a small deposit (i only had about 30$ on me and they still were cool) and to hold your ID, you get a huge I think, 2 liter boot filled w a beer of your choice. As long as you don't steal the boot or break it you get your cash back and the free booze! Win Win! Peanuts galore to throw on the floor, pong tables and darts, but keep your smarts! Dead said I am not serving her (unfortunately enough she was a Black women, the only one at the establishment that night). It's a shame. This place barely makes four stars, but it's a fun atmosphere and they gave me free beer on my birthday, so I like them. They are fun for a bar to hang out it, but not a great place to go for food. They only have one vegetarian option and it's not good--veggie currywurst. Their beer is good and moderately priced. On your birthday they will give you a huge boot of beer for free. It's part of the Albany trifecta (Wolff's, Bombers and Olde English Pub). If you finish the free drinks from all three places you get a free t-shirt and it's kind of a big deal. The bar has free peanuts which you can crack and throw the shells on the floor. There are darts and big TV screens where they show soccer games. Biergarten is definitely a regular in my rotation of Albany Bars. They have a good selection of German Beers as well as some more contemporary brews. They also have a full bar. They have some gimmicky stuff here, which I am a fan of personally. This is one of the stops on the birthday tour and you can get a giant boot filled with Spaten lager FOR FREE on your bday. They also have shot-ski's. Its a ski with shot glasses on it and you get your buddies together and do shots in unison. They also have some cork dart boards and shuffleboard. The space is very open and filled with big picnic tables. The tables and floors are littered with peanuts so if you're allergic bring your epi-pen. If you're not allergic feel free to throw peanuts on the floor, at your friends, into people's beers, etc. There's a garage door on the front of the building that frequently stays open in the warmer months. I haven't eaten here in a while but I have been for brunch and I remember enjoying it. Table service is a little weird, though. You have to order and pay at the food counter and the server gives you a number to take back to your seat. When your foods up they bring it over to you. Drinks are ordered separately at the bar. They throw some LIT parties at Biergarten. This place is definitely a soccer bar and during World Cup this place is off the wall. They also throw an Oktoberfest block party. Boot chugging contests are wild and I've seen a lot of vomit but its mad fun. read more

Ahhhh I am so happy I found this gem in the Albany area!! Biergarten has a nice chill vibe, with plenty of beers to choose from as well as some house cocktails. The grapefruit-vodka variation that I tried was great. Biergarten also has lots of TVs. there are lights strung along the ceiling, darts in the back, and a fake tree or two for ambience. Bartenders were nice enough, and we had plenty of room at various tables to sit down and take a load off. Shotskis (where three people place shots in holder on the ski and drink together... perfect team bonding experience!) were $6 per shot. Throwback to college days. For those REALLY looking to exercise some competitive muscles, you can chug DAS BOOT and see how fast you can chug 2 liters. Definitely coming back to watch some soccer.
