Awesome local tavern with friendly staff and delicious eats!…read more I stopped in on a weekday for lunch and was immediately greeted by the bartender who was also the waitress for the whole place. Despite her being the only person up front, she warmly welcomed everyone and the service was great. I met a friend of mine who was craving wings so she ordered some hot wings and I got the Turkey Brie sandwich, which had turkey, brie cheese, apples and cranberry mayo on ciabatta bread with a side salad. The sandwich was delicious and piled high with turkey. My friend loved her wings too. Overall, the food was great as was the service. Definitely recommend!

I ordered this as takeout and just had to take a couple of bites in the car before going home to try it nice and warm. This kind of sandwich is hard to find. A special roll needs to be used for this called a kimmelweck roll. A kimmelweck (or kummelweck) roll is a crunchy, Kaiser-type bread roll topped with coarse salt and aromatic caraway seeds, primarily known for defining the Buffalo, New York, "beef on weck" sandwich. Originating from 19th-century German immigrant traditions, they are usually filled with roast beef and soaked in au jus. The sandwich was loaded with juicy flavorful roast beef. The bun had caraway seeds and coarse salt all over the top of it which complimented the beef deliciously. It also had a horseradish sauce on the sandwich, so good. It was served with tasty fries and two little cups of au jus. I would definitely order this again.

For a moment, I forgot how amazing The Ruck is, simply as a beer bar…read more When I was passing through town, I was only in Troy for a few hours. Clearly, I couldn't do everything. And I thought I would have to give up on my desire to pop back in to The Ruck for a pint. On the way back to my hotel, I decided to just check to see what Dave and crew had on tap. Egads! Seriously folks, this bar is an embarrassment of riches. I only wanted to have one beer, but I left with three. Two I enjoyed on site, Hill Farmstead's Susan and the brewery's Society and Solitude #13. These are heavy hitters, and even just two five ounce pours put me in a place where I felt it would be imprudent to have a third. Fortunately for me, the crowler machine was fully functional, and I was able to grab an oil can of Weldwerks Xtra Xtra Broccolli to go. Beer names are stupid, but they will not dissuade me from drinking something delicious. Sadly, Dave wasn't there, so I didn't get to say hi, or shake his hand, or thank him for his hard work of managing such an epic tap list. Regrettably I rolled in late in the evening and the kitchen had already closed. No wings for me. Not even one of their special deviled eggs... which sounded delicious, btw. Welp, it was a very very good reminder for me to get back to Troy, arrive earlier in the evening, and move The Ruck back up to the top of my list. You Trojans are lucky to have this joint. Go there. Often. And rejoice.

Just a small, unassuming, laid back bar atmosphere with some solid food. We started with the homemade mozz sticks. 4 large logs that were fried until the cheese was almost liquid. These were the main reason I wanted to come here and they were great. Next I got a Caesar salad. Unfortunately, I didn't care for the dressing on this and couldn't eat much of it. It just tasted like straight anchovies. Last I got one of the specials, a chicken parm sandwich. It came with a nice big cutlet, lots of sauce, and cheese on a ciabatta roll served with fries. I liked the sandwich a lot and the sauce went really well with it. The fries were obviously made in house because they were thick wedges. Not my favorite style but good if you are into that. They don't have a huge menu but it's got all the staples. Next time I go I definitely want to try the wings.

There are wing cooking professionals at this dive bar in Troy…read more A dive is an understatement. They gave us paper plates. The lighting in the dining room is dim. I am fairly certain the air conditioning was not on and it was August. In addition to wings my group of 9 ordered jalapeno poppers, mozzarella sticks and their version of a blooming onion. All three were fried deliciousnes. Loved the mozzarella sticks and poppers. They gave an over abundance of sauce with each. It is called the Ale House and the beer selection was decent. They offered pitchers of the good stuff. The real draw here is the wings. Clearly not frozen, they came out in all kinds of weird shapes demonstrating they were chopped off a whole wing by hand. Decent sized, perfectly crispy. We ordered them three ways. Tequila, Medium and Hot. They offered an award winning hot sauce on the side. I didn't touch it and two of the heat chasers in my group were not really impressed with the heat level. The Tequila Wings had a sweet element to them and not much sauce. I liked them, members of my party loved them. The medium wings were perfect IMO. Drowned in incredible wing sauce. The hot sauce was also very manageable. I would have no problem ordering them again. The blue cheese was perfect too. This is a top 3 spot for wings in the Capital Region. It may be a dump, located in an out of the way spot but that would not stop me from making the trip again and again.

Mom just walked by these guys and proceeded to the dining area and began perusing their specials. They have the usual pub fare like burgers, sandwiches and salads and some Mexican style options like nachos and jalapeño poppers. Lots of draft selections including Fiddlehead, a personal favorite. The dine in seating away from the bar was relaxed and comfortable. I wasn't expecting much given the atmosphere but the food was very good. The salad I had was nice with romaine lettuce and an assortment of veggies. Mom enjoyed their burger. Reasonable prices. I'd gladly return here now that I've been introduced to its understated charm.

This is a dive, for sure, but don't be afraid of dives, embrace them. From the outside you would for sure just drive past, I know, I have driven down this street 100 times and never noticed. But when you walk inside it feels like home. It's bright and welcoming and it was absolutely spotless (the bathroom too!) It's very old inside, all wooden, but reading all the etchings in the wood from the last 4+ decades was pretty awesome. I almost forgot to add, I had the best service here that I had in a long time. It made the meal. Our waitress was so nice and welcoming. We ordered beers, the choices are slim and very domestic, but they did have a bottle of flower power, which only set me back $3.75. We had the fried vegetable platter to start (my friend is vegetarian) and they were pretty good! I saw the wings go by and I wanted to try them. I ordered them hot, and I really enjoyed the spice level, pretty mild for a hot wing. They were meaty. If you love meaty wings, you should come here. They were huge I could only eat a few. The sauce was good. Like a franks sauce but they made it their own. Overall, they were good wings, could have been crispier, but call me picky. My friend absolutely loved her eggplant parm torpedo. The red sauce looked really great so I think if I come back I'll do a parm dish. She said the eggplant was still crispy in the roll, and she loved the fries so much. With two beers each and enough food for take out containers, our bill was less than $50. It's a deal. It's a little hometown spot. We would come back. Maybe not 'go out of your way', but if you are around it's worth a stop for sure!

The waitstaff was quick, friendly, and professional. My biggest gripe was the food itself. My mother ordered the onion soup and it was...made wrong. It tasted alright but not like you would expect. It was wrong color, even, almost like they used chicken broth instead of beef. It lacked the depth that you expect with this dish. I ordered the Adirondack dip sandwich and this was also made wrong. The beef was under seasoned and over cooked. The sandwich was also missing the onions and the horseradish sauce they said it was served with so it was just meat and cheese. Overall the experience really wasn't awful, but I wouldn't choose this place myself.
