I'm from western mass, and I feel like I've tried every restaurant in our area. This was a little bit further being in Easthampton, but totally worth the drive. This whole old mill park is being redone and it's adorable! Definitely worth a visit to check out the area. One tip for finding the place - don't park in the front parking lot on pleasant street. Instead, take the alley where the big keystone sign is, then turn right and park in the back lot. This is where Daily Operation and all of the breweries are. The food here was incredible! They had sooo many vegan and veggie options but they also had meat options. The best of both worlds! I don't think they serve cocktails but they had wine, cider, and beer, and a few fun non-alcoholic options, too. You order your food inside at the counter and they bring it out to you. All the food came out pretty quick. There's a small patio, and we were able to get a table outside for four on a Friday night. There was even a birds nest right on the patio and we watched the mom feed the babies! We split the cheesy jalepeno potatoes. It was a good app - the jalepeno sauce wasn't spicy though. Everyone loved their food (burgers). I ordered the vegan maple bbq tempeh sandwich. I genuinely think this might be the best vegan sandwich I've ever had! The sweet miso glaze on the tempeh was amazing, the fried onions were SO thin and crispy, and the cole slaw was the perfect combo to top it off. And the maple pie!!! Checked out Daily Operation in Easthampton on a casual stop and it immediately felt like a place that knows what it is. It's a great little spot with a lot of character, the kind of atmosphere that feels lived-in in the best way. We started with the garlic dog and it was fire, like instantly regretting I didn't order two. The burger was great too, cooked right and super satisfying without trying too hard. But the chicken milanese sandwich stole the show, and I don't say that lightly. Absolutely unreal, the kind of sandwich you keep thinking about later. Hot take: 16% tip is not enough. Daily Operation is running an ever changing local focused menu with vegetarian and vegan options. It's an order by fish operation with fresh made everything with handhelds, salads and sides, tight desserts, nice beer variety (though 0%ABV's too would be a nice addition) and hand squeezed daily lemonades. I wanted to try everything.With the ever changing menu times can run a little long with a bustling take out and sit in service. Sitting at the counter was an experience of its self. You're basically on the set of The Bear and get to peep creative ink and what's being made on the fly. It's dinner and a show with the open kitchen and the patient "yes, chef" while you're watching the team work as one, get in the weeds and crawl back out again with tight calm. It was one of the first meals in Western Mass where I've been excited to come back and tipping their work felt like a joy, not a chore. Not a fan of the counter service with 16% mandatory tip and ordered items being run to the table as they are ready making it tough for eating in more than a group of 2. Found this place with rave reviews here on Yelp, and we are so happy we tried it. Really friendly staff at the counter when you order to help talk about the menu. I wanted like five different things on the menu but I decided on the blackened fish sandwich and my son had their signature burger and a really tasty blood orange lemonade. Both of us devoured the food and especially liked the sauces used on our sandwiches. The fish was fresh, flaky, and well seasoned but not at all overpowering. I wish I would've tried the black bottom pie, definitely will try that when we return next time. It was dark when we headed out for dinner and we are not familiar with the area, so it was a little bit hard for me to find it at night in a large industrial building near one end - the bright white sign with the Bear on it helped! Inside had a great vibe with not-too-loud music. It was busy but not too crowded and we sat at a cute high top near the door. The food did take a little bit longer to arrive, but I think we were there right at the dinner rush and some folks were coming in to pick up take out orders, and it was definitely worth the wait! read more

Funky little out-of-the-way place in the back of an old mill building. Several good vegetarian options. I ordered the Spicy Mushroom Chitarra, an Asian-inspired noodle dish with a sesame sauce. Was very tasty with a nice spice and mushroomy flavor. It came out a little cool for my liking, but still pretty good. My buddy ordered the Caramelized Beef Shank Noodles with Kimchi Noodle. He pronounced it delicious and very enjoyable. The menu is definitely not ordinary - a lot of different and unusual offerings - If you go, be open to new things. Upon getting to the register to order, I could tell the employee (owner) was already agitated. After asking about an item on the menu and receiving an annoyed response, I didn't continue to inquire and just put in an order for my friend and I-- 2 sandwiches, 2 drinks, and a dessert, totaling $45. This place has a sign in front of the register describing a mandatory 16% tip is added to all orders, but if you feel that's unnecessary to speak up. I asked her why this is and she told me it's to pay her employees more. Ok... This place is not a service restaurant, you pick up your food, seat yourself, and clean up/throw out your own trash. Because of this I asked for the mandatory tip be removed. It was met with extreme aggression and a straight up, "NO"! Very surprised I asked why there is an option if you're saying no... She absurdly slammed the counter and told me fine and completed my order. On my way to sit down, she then ran over to the line cooks and began speaking to them. When sitting with my friend he asked what happened and then commented that if there was an option, and I exercised my option, why am I getting ridiculed? On top of that, what are you speaking to the line cooks for about my order now? Will be food be tainted? While she was raging at the line cooks I approached her with that exact logic, why am I being ridiculed for an option you have so clearly labeled? This is extremely rude to your patrons. This sent her over the edge and she screamed very loud and told me to leave her restaurant that instant. I laughed in shock and she screamed again, "LEAVE! I'LL REFUND YOU". The whole entire restaurant heard and was looking. I didn't speak back or cause a scene, I just grabbed my friend and began walking out. When passing the register again, I took the video attached below, to get proof of this ridiculous sign. She didn't like that, and ripped the sign away while customers were trying to order, then stammered away into the back room and screamed at the top of her lungs. Terrible ownership. read more

I got a chicken milanese sandwich with aioli, arugula, gremolata, pecorino and a delicious lemon for squeezing on the side. Holy god it was good. Pecorino was an inspired choice and the arugula was fresh. Great food better than table service any time. Black bottom maple pie was good--though I ended up not eating the chocolate bottom. It was too dark inside to take photos. You order at the counter and they bring your food to you though I don't know how they find you without a number. In fact we had some items missing and had to ask for them. They have some canned drinks and help yourself water- nothing fancy at all. The staff were really friendly. It's very loud inside and can be difficult to find a seat on a Saturday night. They were running out of menu items quickly but luckily there were some vegan options still available. I tried the Hainan cauliflower & rice which I do NOT recommend. It was like a ramen but not nearly as good. The flavors almost canceled each other out somehow and it was so salty that's basically all I could taste. I also tried the bbq tempeh grinder which was very flavorful. It reminded me of the hot dogs in spaghetti oh's back in the day. It could use more vegetables on the sandwich in my opinion. I'd recommend trying this grinder out even if you aren't vegan. Speaking of vegan, there are no vegan desserts unfortunately but it was really nice to see so many vegan dinner options. I ended up with a stomach afterwards but I'd eat that tempeh grinder again (in hopes that wasn't the cause) and possibly try some of their other vegan meals. I do hope they succeed. read more

We always walk through downtown East Hampton and see a line outside this place waiting for their order.. Curiosity finally got the best of us so we gave it a try. The flavors were wonderful, but it was a little soggy by the time we got home. I think this meal would be a lot better in-house (they're takeout only at the moment). But back to the flavors - the salad was delicious - by far our favorite part of the meal. The burger was great as well (and well-priced). The initial bite of it gave an immediate flavor that this was no fast food burger. The fried rice was the most disappointing -- flavor was good but there were whole bites of fat and a LOT of oil. I make a ton of stir fried rice - please cut back a tiny bit on the oil. All in all 5/5 and a great spot to check out. We're waiting eagarly to go again once they open in-house dining. read more

Prior to last week, I would have given Daily Op 5/5 stars. I've been coming here for years and have eaten my weight in their aged cheeseburger and dumplings. No joke, these two dishes are some of the best I've had. Alas, today, I can barely muster a 1 star review but feel I must report my changed perspective as a kind of public service announcement to inform unsuspecting eaters about the service that comes with the food. Eaters beware that if you come here, even though there are no rules communicated about seating, you must not (under any circumstances) move from a table you initially identified to sit and enjoy your food. My wife I and made this grave error on a busy Friday this past week. After ordering, we headed for a booth indoors only to find it was already taken. My wife waited at the nearby counter seating while I went to scout a table on their outdoor deck. I found one and she shifted outdoors to join me. All this within about a minute of ordering our food. Reminder: nothing was posted nor was communicated by the person who took our order about where we should or should not sit. In fact, when we'd asked him if we could sit anywhere, he responded, "yes, we'll find you." After 30 minutes of waiting and seeing the couple next to us, who arrived 15 min after we did, receive their food, I told the food runner that we hadn't received our food despite ordering at least 15 min before the couple next to us. He checked inside and informed me that there had been a mix up and the food would be out shortly. The food runner who had been working the indoor area came outside to say (brusquely) that our food was coming shortly and that "we couldn't find you". Confused, my wife said, "but we've been here the whole time", to which she snapped that it had only been 30 min, it was a busy Friday night, and stormed off. Shocked by her rudeness, we asked who she was and learned, to our surprise, that this unprofessional behavior was delivered by none other than one of the owners - Jessica Pollard. The bottom line is this: If you start out indoors, know that that if you don't stay indoors, everyone (including an owner) will assume that you probably weren't that hungry and have gone home, or that you have donated your food back to Daily Op, and most certainly will not wonder if perhaps you may be seated somewhere other than their indoor seating area...like their outdoor seating area. Good luck to all future hungry souls who decide to move tables at Daily Op...you will be hungry longer than you would like to be and will then get scolded by the pastry chef who may be happier interacting with sedentary dough. Good luck! In all seriousness, Daily Op has been our first stop every summer after returning to our home in the area since it opened around 2018 and we are very disappointed to have been treated this way. read more

I have gotten Daily Op a couple times before with always positive reviews, my only complaint is that the food is never ready when you come to pick it up, so I always make sure to leave at the time they say to arrive to give a little wiggle room for them to package my order. But, this past week I put in an order and left to get my food around 8:30, arriving maybe 20 minutes before closing. I said my name and they didn't have my order. I must have not confirmed it before leaving, and of course I left my phone at home so I couldn't double check my email!! Of all days!!! The woman at the counter was so lovely and understanding and she put in my order as a new ticket and had it ready for me right before close! They were so accommodating and sweet, and fired it up in 10 minutes!! My hubby and I both got the vegan grinders and split a pupusa that was delicious! Wow! The food was great. We were there in the last hour they were open and some of our food came out but we ordered four cheeseburgers that didn't come out. After it became clear that they weren't coming I got up and asked and the got them to us in a few minutes. Plus complimentary potatoes (4 servings!) plus a couple complimentary slices of salted black bottom maple pie, it was all very delicious and abundant. First review was from 2019 - between then and now, Daily Op was our pandemic savior. Different options every week - and we got take out there pretty much EVERY week for the past year and a half. always mind blowing. The deserts have NEVER let me down...ever. I'm not vegan, nor interested in being vegan, but I always try the vegan options here because they are just so damn good. Yes, the burger is reliable, as is the meatloaf sandwich, but what these folks can slap together with nothing but veggies will make your head spin. The new location is so nice - tons of seating and room to spread. Even when its busy you can get seating. Plus, I'm really not sure where else you can get Genesee Cream Ale with your meal these days. I see some comments complaining about occasional long waits, or messed up substitutions. But with a place so popular and so in demand -its always worth the wait (which should be expected) and you should just get the food the way the chefs want to make it anyhow. read more

Daily operation is a small, trendy restaurant that has an open kitchen in the back separated from the dining area by a counter. Come in, place your order, and wait for a table to open up. You'll get a number and can pick up your food once your called or they may bring it to you as well. They have a variety of dishes and sides from all over, and quite a few with Asian influences. They sold out of a few dishes (we ate at around 8pm on a Friday night), but there are a lot of options so it wasn't difficult finding replacements. We had: --Thai cabbage salad: easily our favorite dish here. Full of texture from the cabbage and peanuts, flavor from fish sauce, ginger, Thai chilies, cilantro, etc. --smoked white fish toast: second favorite dish. A healthy serving of smoked fish on top of perfect thick toast, topped with pickled onions, Thai basil, and pickled radishes. --hush puppies: these were ok - a little plain in terms of flavor. Dipping sauce was just ok too. --bun cha: decent bun cha but overall a letdown. This just didn't have enough flavor. The sauce (which was mixed in, instead of in a side bowl as with traditional bun cha), was not funky enough (fish sauce) and not sweet enough. There weren't enough pickled veggies and it was lacking some basil too. The meatballs were executed perfectly however. --pork dumplings: these were good. Huge dumplings, good flavor, good soy/vinegar dipping sauce. We finished the meal with the chocolate pie and blueberry cream pie - both were very good but I loved the blueberry one. They're served with cream and topped with crunchy graham crackers and are delicious. Overall a very enjoyable meal and would definitely come back. read more

If you are in the Amherst, North/East Hampton please try this restaurant. It's in a very cool restored mill building/complex in the back near a river and nice bike path. The menu is simple but the focus is on quality ingredients and amazing flavor combinations. I had a dry aged beef cheeseburger that was perfectly medium rare with just the right amount of sear. The house made bun was perfectly toasted and their special sauce was an amazing compliment. We started with pan seared broccoli with green onions and an Asian style glaze, delicious. Their food is provocative and delicious, but you can probably tell that by the descriptions of their dishes. I recommend going with a group and sharing a bunch of things. The food is incredible here and really unique to the area. The lady at the front of the house was super friendly and helpful. She was kind and very knowledgeable on the menu items. We arrived a few minutes after opening and most of the tables were full. You seat yourself, so we were lucky enough to find a booth seat. The restaurant is nicely decorated and open. Lighting is slightly dimmed, which is fine in the day, but a little dark in the late afternoon/ evening. We ordered the crab cakes, red curry noodles, pork dumplings, black bottom maple pie and a brown butter five spice donut. Out of everything we ordered the crab cakes were my least favorite. It was very one note and I didn't taste much crab flavor. Having said this, I don't think it was terrible- I'm just not big into crab cakes. The red curry noodles were fantastic. Tender hand pulled noodles in a really savory and complex red curry sauce. The chunks of pork shoulder they incorporated into the curry was great. Sometimes shredded pork has a tendency to be dry but this was not. The best part of the dish was the picked onions on top. They gave a nice bit of acid that cut through the spiciness and creaminest of the curry. The dumplings were tasty and satisfying. They were steamed and stuffed with a really meaty filing. The wrapper of the dumpling reminded me of a cross between a pierogi and a potsticker. The sauce that came on the dumplings was good- but just your ordinary sweet-soy sauce flavor wise, nothing special like the dumplings. The black bottom pie was great. There's a sweet salty combo going on that I loved. My favorite desert was the donut. It was light and airy, not greasy and filled with the most delicious floral Earl grey pastry cream. I've never had a donut like this. I would definitely recommend Daily Operation. From their social media they gave this vibe of being "too cool for school" and not giving a shit. But I really think this is just a no frills restaurant just serving good food. Their staff is fantastic (seriously, just really nice people) and their food is the best the Valley offers.
