When all the reviews warn you about weekend wait times, you show up early and prepare to wait. It was about 45 minutes for three people Sunday morning at 0945. The service was friendly and attentive, despite having 3 of 5 scheduled staff show up to work. There's nothing really to the interior to speak of, some booths and tables. I wouldn't think this place is good for a large group. Not a fan of the food, however. The home fries were all quite large chunks of potato. The corned beef hash looked like someone had thrown minced potatoes into ground beef jerky, peppered it heavily and warmed it slightly. A lot of flour in the pancake mix, so you got that acrid taste and the moisture sucked from your face. The scrambled eggs were black, the kind of black from heating your butter on a too hot, not clean surface. If this is the best in the Amherst area, I'm sad for the Amherst area. read more

I was pretty good, I just wished the waffle had more flavor, same thing goes for the French toast. They offer at every table a holder for tea packs. They had good choices including Apple cinnamon tea. The staff here is very nice, and get your order right. Parking here on the weekend in the morning is a pretty hard task, with almost every spot filled. The ambience inside is just like their slogan, "Country Cooking". This is a very cute breakfast spot, tucked behind a huge parking lot! The waitresses were very nice and relaxed - our table was on the short side of the counter, and she took our order from over the counter wall divider. (Work smarter!) Even as they got close to closing, they didn't force us out (although we did get out the door before they closed). I started off this morning looking to try a new breakfast spot. After seeing the reviews I thought to myself it sounds like a no brainer. Unfortunately the restaurant did not live up to all the hype. The food was well to be blunt very average and nothing special at all. The worst part of the experience however which is the reason for the one star is the staff. About the only fly in the ointment is that I rely on public transportation, and had to dash across Route 9 (which is neither a picnic, nor very sensible, nor at all safe), there's no sidewalk, and the parking lot is a pockmarked dirt sea of mud. Still, the Stables is worth the trouble, especially when the alternatives on the Route 9 strip are overpriced pretentious outfits, soulless chains, and fast food joints. read more

They said it was going to be a 20 minute wait, it ended up being about an hour until we sat down. Don't mind waiting but would rather be quoted realistic timing. I bring my family here as often as possible. It's a small, diner type place, but when we go it's always packed, which I think indicates the popularity. They have large portions and they're cheap for the amount and quality you get. Homey, cozy feeling place with warm staff. Are there sometimes items that are not perfect? Once in a while, but considering how much business they do, I think that's to be expected (it's a lot for a few servers and I think they might have 1 or two cooks. They can't do everything to perfection in a breakfast or lunch rush.) They will correct the issue immediately if you say something, and they're very apologetic and nice about it.
