Another great visit to Progression. I used to be all about the other brewery down the street but Progression has leap-frogged to the top preference. Nice comfortable venue with excellent beer and very friendly and helpful staff. Decent location and parking is just as brutal here as it is anywhere else in town, so if with a group maybe plan to drop them off in front and go find a space somewhere. I lean toward the IPAs but we also had a Plum Berliner which was excellent. Of course we brought a case home! Highly recommend this one! read more

My fiance and I will be hosting our rehearsal dinner here in a few months so we stopped by to meet with the manager. The manager is incredible kind and helpful, very wise. They make planning very easy. The space is gorgeous, they have a semi-private space which is perfect for us and they have on-site catering. They have live music, that salt shuffleboard game and some arcade games too. There is a parking lot directly attached which is super convenient. Chris, the Tap Room Manager, was a rock star and made the entire experience go off without a hitch. His attention to every detail was impressive. His staff/team were friendly and hard-working. Progression Brewing Company is a craft brewery that opened in Northampton, Massachusetts in November 2018. It was founded by business partners Drew Starkweather and head brewer Todd Sullivan. Starkweather is a businessman who created Drew's Organics: a renowned salad dressing and salsa company that he sold in 2010. Sullivan has over 30 years of brewing experience and previously worked at Mill City Brewing and Highland Orchard. The two met and decided to open their own brewery. When a space that was previously home to Don Gleeson's Camping Supplies opened in downtown Northampton, the partners made the move to acquire it. The brewery produces a variety of styles, but a large percentage of their repertoire are New England-style IPAs. Progression also has an in-house kitchen with a menu that features burgers, sammies, wraps, flatbreads, and various bar bites. My son and I recently visited Progression Brewing Company while we were cycling the large network of bike trails in and around Northampton. The brewery is conveniently located right alongside the Manhan Rail Trail in downtown Northampton. The place had a really nice vibe and had seating available outside as well as inside. We had already eaten lunch so we weren't particularly hungry. I was pretty thirsty though; especially after cycling all of those miles pulling a heavy bike trailer with a small child inside. The draught menu that day was almost exclusively New England-style IPAs, which was fine by me. I decided to order a sampler flight that consisted of "Cape Time" (NEIPA), "Connect The Dots" (NEIPA), "Evolve" (Double NEIPA), and "Ripe Dose" (Double NEIPA). All of them were excellent brews, but I liked the last one the best! I was very impressed by the beers at Progression and I would definitely stop by again! read more

Arrived on a Friday early evening.:..apparently they stop the grill at 7pm on Friday and Saturdays...guess so more people can drink vs worrying about food. Not psyched. Forgot Northampton was like east coast San Francisco, and I'm from Vermont. Had good root beer (I'm 2O years sober) was Meh. Wouldn't return. Had a flatbread. But we're from VT. Soooo. Had nachos....was okay, but, a re-tred Michelin tire woold have tasted good with some cheese. Nice bartender tho. read more

I hate beer. My husband got a margarita beer that was out of this world. We return to go for lunch one day because we are out of state, but they did not open until late. We love their summer patio outside and can't wait to visit again with our dogs. Great service and atmosphere. read more

I had a very enjoyable time here during my visit. I like the outdoor setup they have during COVID, they clean it down good and there's plenty of space between benches. The wait staff was very friendly. If you're going to drink here you have to order something to eat as per the local regulations during this time of the pandemic. Be aware that they specialize mostly in IPA style beers. I'm honestly not a fan of IPAs but they had a very delicious saison with notes of banana and clove. I could taste the clove, it was subtle and not overpowering. They also have other style drinks like hard seltzer. Great little spot to hang out. read more

A hidden little gem in Northampton. We stopped by for brief respite from a day replete with walking about this lovely college hamlet. Progression seemed like an ideal place to get off our feet for a bit and try some local brews. We went on a Sunday (pro tip: parking in the public lots is free on Sundays!). There were sports on the TVs, but classy jazz was easing out of the sound system. After ordering our drinks we were able to secure a cozy spot on a couch by the window; a great location for people watching. I got the Noon Juice because I didn't want anything too heavy for a midday drink. It is a session IPA with blueberry. That might seem a somewhat odd couple, but it paired spot on. My girlfriend opted for the Black and Blue Sour which as the name implies is loaded with blueberry and blackberry flavors. An ideal refresher on a late summer's afternoon. Definitely dug the chill vibe of this place and will be back. read more

Progression Brewing is one of the latest craft breweries Steve and I have delved into. It's also a brewery that was on my list to try for a while so it's good that I finally got to try them out! We had three beers from this particular brewery. The Flourish beer was the first one we tried. This was a pretty good Farmhouse Saison. I haven't had one in a little while and this return was a pleasant one. It had a good crisp flavor with fruity and dry hopped notes to it. The next one was the Evolve beer. This one was a very solid hazy IPA which we both liked pretty well! It had good peach and grapefruit highlights to it which made for a very good IPA. And then the final beer was the Omen beer. This was a stout that we enjoyed as this was the last beer we had from Progression as our Sunday was winding down. Malty,dark and smooth this was a pleasant stout with it's coffee flavor features it a great beer to conclude our brewery experience with on the this brewery. read more

What a nice space in Northampton! Plenty of room to park yourself somewhere or roam around and mingle (seriously, the space is huge for being that conveniently located). There's stuff to do, cool artwork on the walls, and of course some good beers to try. Some were certainly better than others, but they had a few that I would be happy to take hope for myself or to share. We stopped here recently, after walking around town and finding the place unexpectedly, and were pleasantly surprised! The beer list is good but not overwhelming, and they have several food options to cover whatever your plans (whether you want a few light snacks or enough to satisfy a full meal). Our favorite part about this place is that they're located off a bike trail, which we love and are always looking for places like this to enhance plans for days out on the bicycles. They have indoor seating available plus several tables outside with umbrellas to give you a nice place to stop regardless of weather. Let me start by saying that I hate giving places mediocre ratings during the COVID era - I fully recognize that this is a really challenging time for local businesses and their employees. Overall, our experience was less than enjoyable. We went in for dinner on a fall weekend night and sat at their outdoor tables. The seating/ordering instructions were a little unclear but the staff was helpful. It took about 15 minutes for someone to come take our order (even just for drinks). We had planned to order the Mediterranean platter as part of our meal, but the server informed us they were out of hummus. They already have a limited menu due to COVID (understandable), but two of their dishes relied on hummus as a main ingredient. What made it more challenging is that we are vegetarian, and so removing those two dishes REALLY limited our options. We probably should have just left, but We decided to go with the nachos and the 'fancy grilled cheese' (pretty much the only other veggie options). Nachos: These were tasty, but I think that was mostly due to the chips. They were advertised as having black beans, and there were probably 10 beans in the entire plate. The ratio of chips to other ingredients felt pretty imbalanced - we probably could have used more guac and greek yogurt too (greek yogurt is more of a drizzle than an actual ingredient). The salsa was notably good - we could have ordered chips and salsa and been similarly satisfied. Grilled cheese: The menu listed this as having brie and a fig spread with greens/tomato. The sandwich was fine - but the cheese was definitely not brie and we couldn't find any fig spread on our sandwich. The service was also generally slow, which I am guessing was COVID related - the poor server seemed to have a ton on her plate. I'm not sure we'll be back. read more

I go to Progression regularly for a board game meetup and it is nice. As a non-drinker I really appreciate that they have a few options for non-alcoholic drinks and their food is delicious. This is a great spot to go to for meetups, but they also have some interesting events. I have seen Bonsai nights that look like they fill up. They have band nights that seem popular. The staff is friendly and recognized me fairly quickly. I have gone to other breweries for meetup events and they weren't nearly as nice a Progression. read more

The space is very nice and well laid out. The staff very nice but could have been more proactive for us. It was literally pouring rain and we came in while another member of our party was parking. We ordered 4 drinks and (2) appetizers at 6:49 and I let the host know another member was coming after parking then we would place a dinner order. The Mexican corn app was delicious. Once the driver had parked and arrived we went to order food and were told "the grill closed at 7:00pm"... it was 7:02. The hostess should have let us know to put the food order in when we ordered initially. We ordered some uninspired flatbreads and couldn't get the summer shandy as it kicked and they replaced with an imperial stout(?? It's July). Food was okay at best. Beer we had was meh. Hard seltzer drink way too sweet.would look for another spot next time. read more

They also did a great job enforcing COVID guidelines, and that's really important as well. as always, sported a wonderful selection of beers including a number of NEIPA's of varying hop varieties. Even the food selection was ample and of great quality (try the potato wedges!) This is a nice little brew pub located on the rail trail in Northampton where the trail crosses Pleasant St. Nice patio area. Clean and neat inside and out. Bicycle [parking area. I am getting tired of the IPA's though. Everywhere you go these days they have 6 or 7 IPA's and maybe one lager or pilsner. Progression does have a lager and a really nice kolsh. I ordered a pint of the kolsh style ale, $7. When I was leaving a decided to pick up a 4 pack of pints from their cooler, a little over $12. How come one pint at the bar is $7 but 4 pints from the cooler are about $3 each? read more

What a cool place! My friends and I came here for their one year anniversary and we were all impressed. Great prices on their wide selection of brews, including their own hard lemon seltzer, which made me happy since I have celiacs and can't drink beer (sad, I know). They had $2 pork or bean tacos with this celebration that were both delicious, and we also got an order of nachos for the tables that were really good (not traditional nachos though, just so yall know). Someone gave us a call back and confirmed the order and we paid ont he phone. We reached there and did a curb side pick up. Just note that pick up is on Pearl Street side. Very rude manager this evening. A friend of mine - a mature adult enjoying one leisurely beer - through a misunderstanding, broke one of the rules around outdoor consumption. A polite word from the manager would have solved the problem. Instead, he chose shouting and public shaming.
