We have been dining at Fitzwillys since it opened, with a long gap of 40 years since we moved away. We had an opportunity this month to return and it is as good as ever. Service was exceptional for our table of 7. My turkey burger was tasty. And there was a nice selection of beer and wine. We were seated at the back in a large booth. Watched the world cup game here and the hospitality was the best! The Georgia mule is fabulous. Also had the new england scallop chowder and holy smokes it was damned delicious. Came here with a bunch of friends on a Sunday night and we're quickly seated without issue We started off with a pomegranate cider and another cider, which I can't remember We ordered the Crispy Chicken Cobb Salad, Chicken Caprese sandwich, the cowboy burger and fish tacos. The Cobb salad was really good, and came with a lot of toppings! The chicken was crispy to my liking. The cowboy burger came with barbecue sauce, bacon, Krispy, and fried onions. Not super crowded and we were placed under AC which was too cold for us. I did ask about turning ceiling fan down, but that never happened, nor did server offer to move us to a "warmer spot". Service was very slow. I ordered a Reuben with roast turkey instead of corned beef. It was super dry, had no flavor, not even sure it had sauerkraut on it but it did have bacon, which was NOT listed as an ingredient and I didn't want it, toast was over done and I could barely find the Thousand Island dressing. Server never asked about appetizers, so we forgot and just ordered entrees. He brought us our check without asking if we wanted dessert, which we did! I admit that the reason I chose this restaurant for our lunch was because of the name. We were seated by the window which felt like we were in a Steampunk conservatory. If you are a fan of the subgenre, then you know what I mean. We started with the gorgonzola garglic bread. The bread was warm when brought to the table and was perfect on it's own because we discovered we weren't a fan of the gorgonzola cheese. I admit, we picked this place because of the name and I love that movie. IYKYK. We were seated right away in the window. Enjoyed watching the people go by while enjoying my root beer. Came here for a drink and appetizer before dinner. It was happy hour time but apparently Massachusetts doesn't do happy hour. Service was slow in the beginning but once we ordered everything came quickly. I was happy with my margarita. The nachos were also good and had a good amount of toppings except for chicken. I just ordered the wrong thing. The people I was with all enjoyed their meals but I ordered the chicken pot pie and was very disappointed. There was only about 3 or 4 small pieces of chicken in it. An awesome place to host a group dinner! My friend's rehearsal dinner was hosted here (Nov 2023) and we were impressed with the food & service. We had a large party seated upstairs at a very long table. Almost everyone fit! They were super accommodating and let us squeeze my husband in with an extra chair when he arrived from Boston. Food: Apps - Chicken tenders and garlic bread. Excellent and the garlic bread came with a creamy sauce which was delicious. Entrees: Short rib - The portion was enormous!! Cooked perfectly and I attempted to eat every bite. I didn't have the Cobb salad but it looked amazing and a lot of people ordered it. Dessert: Brownie Sundae- I "shared" this aka ate an entire one because who doesn't like brownies and ice cream. I couldn't say better things about the service. The waitresses were extremely nice and ran around and took all our drink/food orders with ease. Ryan, the manager, worked directly with my friend to arrange the dinner and make sure everything ran smoothly. Nice place. Stopped in mid afternoon for lunch so it wasn't packed but several tables. Bartender was nice. We enjoyed a Jacks Abbey House lager and a Fiddlehead IPA. My wife had the Scallop Chowder which she claimed was excellent . I had the wild mushroom grilled cheese with sautéed onions and balsamic. It was delicious. The side of potato salad was not to creamy, nicely diced consistent size of potatoes and a a little tart to It. I appreciate the serving sizes were reasonable. We are traveling and left overs are an issue. read more

Fitzwilly's is a Northampton institution with a hip vibe and delicious American food that first opened in October 1974. I like to go there for dinner with friends and family whenever I'm in town for a concert or a show at one of the entertainment venues. Their extensive menu has something for everybody on it, at an affordable price. The staff is friendly and very efficient. I'm looking to my next meal there. read more

The menu has a little bit of everything- Italian based but has lots of sandwich options and more. The servers are always kind, it's very clean and so good. Basically 4 stars for service and ambiance and 2 stars for food. Our party of 3 had mixed feelings about our orders. The Scallop Chowder was pretty neat; had a nice strong flavor and something I don't see every day. The Salmon-Shrimp Tuscany was OK but the wine sauce didn't cook down enough leaving a sour taste but at least the salmon wasn't overcooked. The Harvest Risotto was bizarre and I'm sorry to say inedible. It was way too dry when risotto should normally be nice and creamy. And it was really stinky, I don't know if Romano replaced Parmesan or if pancetta replaced bacon but something was a bad fit. Our server was very nice and since I had my family I didn't want to make a big deal about not enjoying some of the food. We might go back and try different dishes. read more

Fitzwilly's is one of my favorite spots in Northampton. Overall, the food, drinks, and service are top notch. Great spot to eat at the bar and watch your favorite game. I highly recommend their French onion soup but wasn't the biggest fan of their Cesar salad due to the cooks amount of hard boiled egg. read more

Needed some grub from the Hot Chocolate Run for Safe Passage. Walked to the corner of the street and asked the gentleman for a good burger spot, pointed across the street to Fitzwilly's and here I came. Sat at the bar closest to the door which was a mistake because there was a cold draft every time the door opened , I'm sure summertime would be fine. Ordered a french onion soup, philly cheesesteak, and the cookie pie for dessert. I enjoyed the soup, good broth, good chunk of cheese, lots of onions which made it a thicker soup. Cheesesteak was ok, wasn't hot so thinking it was sitting waiting to be brought out. The sweet potato fries were delicious though! The cookie pie dessert came out hotter than my grinder. It was a nice touch to the meal and probably my favorite bite other than the fries. I would come back, certainly will branch out to other joints too when in town. read more

I went last night for my sister's birthday because it's one of her favorites, I probably haven't been in 20 years. The apps were good we were there early so they came fast. I ordered the steak frites, I know that the fries are supposed to be crispy that is the meaning of frites. And it's my fault for not sending it back, but they were so soggy & greasy plus the steak was sitting on them which made them greasier, I just couldn't eat them. And my steak even though i ordered mid rare & it was, tasted overcooked & had no flavor like salt, the waitress was nice but she offered me A-1 when she brought it which is never a good sign I haven't used that stuff since I was a kid. read more

It's been years since I've been to Fitzwillys. I had a couple gift cards and stopped by on a blustery day in January. Very spacious area with a nice bar and tvs all around. Very welcoming server giving us plenty of time to ponder the menu. My wife chose the southern fried chicken, my daughter chose the bolognese and I had the roasted beet salad with the addition of salmon. Food arrived in a timely manner and I totally enjoyed my beet salad and salmon. Moist, flavorful with the sweetness from the beets, great pepper flavor of the arugula, the goat cheese, the candied walnuts and the perfectly grilled salmon was not only flavorful but totally satisfying. My daughter loved her bolognese which came with a nice slab of garlic bread. The wife's chicken was good with a fresh mashed potato, pan gravy but the veggies accompanying the dish were totally over salted. Other than that it was a great meal. We had our wedding welcome celebration a few weeks ago. For the most part everything went great! Our bartender back in the patio bar (of course I forgot his name) was amazing. The only issue: We had the patio bar area booked and the GM agreed to it, but then the manager day of wouldn't let us have the tables area because they had a long wait at the front of the house. I normally wouldn't care, but we had a lot of elderly guests coming in from out of town and they definitely needed seats. Eventually we were able to get one of the three or four tables back there. Service was great, our waitress was kind and attentive. Food was very subpar, and lacked seasoning. We got the baked haddock with mashed potatoes- potatoes were room temp by the time it got to us, just the bottom was hot. The fish itself was cooked well but lacked salt/pepper and the veggies that came with it were just steamed green beans, bell peppers, and squash with no seasoning. The Alfredo pasta with shrimp was better and was actually flavorful, but unfortunately pasta was overcooked. Our waiter Jamal was great and super helpful and attentive. The Pork Belly Risotto was off the hook good. With the ever-changing storefronts in Downtown Northampton, it's always comforting to come home to a familiar place. I can't remember a time when Fitzwilly's green facade was not gracing the corner of Main Street in downtown Northampton, and I hope there never is. The food is more than decent, the ambiance is comfortable, and the drinks are plenty and strong. Fitzwilly's is like an old friend--you know what you're getting, it's familiar and expected, and you hope you'll see them again sometime soon. I love how expansive the craft beer menu is. Western Mass has blossomed into a craft beer mecca and I'm happy to see a solid sampling of local favorites to choose from. The only thing I'd love to see is a few more vegetarian/vegan options. In the land of Smithies and hippies there are many a plant-based diet going through these doors and while the few items offered are great, they do get a bit repetitive if you're a frequent visitor. A vegetarian wing option would be amazing! That said, they've always been great at editing meals to suit your diet preferences, which is much appreciated. I recently visited and got the spicy alfredo dish sans all meat and it was wonderfully flavorful and filling. I hope to return to Fitzilly's for a good long time. Girls day out, we picked here because of their reputation. First impression, the atmosphere is very old tavern meets modern brewery. Welcomed by hosts and seated right away. Our waitress came quickly and took our drink menu while we pondered over the expansive menu. We both ordered Frozen margaritas and they were absolutely delicious! Then we both ordered the Beet Salad with grilled chicken. They were out of mixed greens so they made it with romaine it came with a specific dressing so choice wasn't an option. Salads arrived and they looked good, but taste? None. If they didn't have goat cheese and beets, it wouldn't have any and for $18 each....never again. If you're looking for a great local bar with great food and quirky decor this place really "Fitz" the bill! My friend from Northampton recommend this local favorite! The first thing you notice as you walk in is the uniq decor! They've got mismatching walls, wacky signs, a hanging giant fish, and all kinds of gizmos and thingamabobs! The service was excellent! Our waitress was polite, quick, and attentive! Our drinks and appetizers came in a matter of minutes! Our drinks were always full throughout the meal! We ordered margaritas and Brussel sprouts for apps. They came out very quickly and the margaritas were strong. They brought all of our food out together in about 20 minutes. I got the Memphis Mac and cheese which was smoky, rich, and delicious. My friends ordered the nachos with no meat and the Beyond Meat veggie Burger! The nachos were bountiful! And the beyond burger was ok but bland and not filling according to my friend. Definitely try the Memphis Mac! This place is not suited for vegan/ vegetarian options but otherwise is a great local spot! read more
