Our food came out in pretty short order and the steak was to a perfect doneness (med rare) and tasted awesome. The risotto unfortunately was pretty undercooked. We were a party of 5 and we had a great time there. My friends got the mixed drinks and they were really good, "couldn't taste the alcohol" they said. We had the onion straws and gorgonzola garlic bread as an app. The onion straws are addicting, and they gave you a lot. Theyre cut thin and lightly battered, so the onion is cooked when you ate it. The garlic bread was really good, especially with the melty cheese sauce. The saltiness richness of the gorgonzola sauce went well with the zing of the garlic bread (and onion straws) I had the maple bourbon steak tips with wild mushrooms risotto. Both were absolutely delicious. The risotto is creamy with the little bit of thinly sliced mushrooms mixed in. The steak had a hint of sweetness from the maple and bourbon. It came with roasted red bell petters and sauteed portabella mushrooms, but I didn't really like those. The mushroom had a vinagerly taste to them that I wasn't a fan of, and I just don't like bell peppers. The atmosphere was very nice and welcoming, and so are the staff. Their remedy was to bring me a large roll instead of bringing my sandwich back to the kitchen and the manager a very rude blonde was argumentative instead of apologizing she just kept saying I was being argumentative. This was my first time eating at Cal's. I've heard good things and I wasn't disappointed. My dining companion made our reservation for 6p as I've heard there's usually a long wait on weekends otherwise. We were seated immediately on time in a nice booth. Our server took the drink orders and upon returning, gave the rundown of specials for the evening. Cal's is rather dark inside. Dark wood furnishings, beams and artwork. It reminds me in some ways of and old home. There are pillars and dividers for areas. As it was Saturday evening, it was very busy. Seated near us was a family dinner for a 94 year- old matriarch, another table was celebrating a birthday and then one other large party. Even with these larger parties, Cal's still manages to seem intimate when seated in the booths. The booths are divided with their large high back almost pew-like cushioned bench seats. I think it's the dark decor and accent lighting that encourages this intimate, homey feel. I had a cosmopolitan, while it looked correct, the taste, lackluster. For my meal I ordered the special: scallops risotto. It came with salad or soup and of course fresh rolls with butter. I had the salad with blue cheese dressing. I'm very picky with my blue cheese, this was delicious (upcharge .50 and well worth it!). My companion ordered the chicken francaise without capers (egad!!!!) The presentation was spot on. My scallops were the right amount of chewy tenderness and flavorful. The risotto was creamy, with a nice blend of tomato and cheese. I was afraid the tomato would be over powering, it wasn't. As chatty as I am, I was silenced momentarily... totally immersed in my cheesy goodness and warm atmosphere. My companion enjoyed their chicken francaise and remarked it was tender, the sauce was not overbearing. Along with not liking capers, they are not fond of sauces. All in all, the meal was excellent. Our server was polite and maintained the ability of being attentive without being intrusive. The atmosphere is homey and intimate, yet somehow still suitable for a larger party of people. My wife and I visited this restaurant yesterday afternoon. We had the Fried Brussels Sprouts for our appetizer and after that my wife had the Autumn Chopped Salad with Grilled chicken. I come here every time I am in the area. I simply love their boneless buffalo wings. Moist, generous in size, with a buttery buffalo sauce. Simply the best! We had the BJAM burgers, and they were HUGE! I expected there to be bacon on them-but there wasn't. the bacon jam was not at all bacon-y; just sweet. The burgers were cooked properly, medium rare as requested. Unfortunately, the rolls were not as fresh as they should have been and fell apart while eating the burger. They were pretty dry, and I ended up not eating most of my roll. Our server was excellent, the atmosphere was fun, and we were able to get in and out in a timely fashion for our show. We've walked by this place a couple of times and it always seems to have a crowd. This day we got there just in time. They have a few tables outside but it was way to hot so we got a little table by the window. The fresh corn and andouille sausage fritters were delicious... add more andouille. It was hard to find. I ordered the turkey burger with avocado and mayo on side. I never received the mayo but that's fine. I was told the coleslaw was homemade so I gave it a try. Not bad!! Monday lunch with three others was a cozy experience in a booth. Large persons would not be comfortable. I had the steak salad. The meat was tasty but on the tough side. There was very little variety in the greens and the blue cheese was on the stingy side. But it was all fresh. I've ate here a handful of times now and I keep coming back. There are a lot of really great places to eat in Northampton but I find myself coming here because of the convenience and familiarity, it's always a "safe" choice. I've tried a few different things on the menu but lately whenever I go I order the beyond meat burger. I try to eat vegan whenever I can, so if restaurants have vegan and vegetarian options I'm always eager to try them. They do have other tasty things on the menu though. Three years ago I tried their regular meat burger and it was quite delicious. This restaurant also caters to big parties quite well, last year we came here for my brothers birthday and had over 12 people and one waitress, I'm sorry I can't remember her name, did an excellent job serving us. Most of the table ordered alcoholic drinks and she was on top of getting everyone refills when asked. Overall I think the servers are very friendly, pleasant people and they serve really good food. One final thing I want to mention, my friends and I came here not too long ago and my friend ordered a dish she really didn't like, the Cajun Shrimp Pasta, her fiancé and myself both tried it as well and it really wasn't our favorite either, nothing I would ever order again. She was so embarrassed about not liking it, but as soon as our waitress was notified she took care of it immediately with a smile on her face. She got instead the Wicked Alfredo which was delicious! This just goes to show that they really value customer service, so if you are unhappy with something, most people will be happy to fix it for you. read more

Brussells sprouts roasted and flavored to perfection. Their fish and chips is among the best I've ever had. Came here with friends last weekend for a nice outside lunch in the fading days of fall. They had a great COVID set up both outside and inside. We chose to eat outside on the sidewalk, though they also had a tent. The menu looked great! We would have all eaten anything on it, but I settled for the crab cake sandwich which was great. Had one of the seasonal cocktails and beers on tap...meh, cocktail didn't live up to the hype, and the beer recommendation just wasn't for me. Only other concern is that I'm a wheelchair user. During COVID times, this is fine because I can eat outside. However I don't think this would be an option with me if it was inside dining only. There seems to be three big steps to get in the entrance. I see they had a doorbell ring for wheelchair users, but if you've ever had to use those....iykyk. I have been coming hear longer than I care to admit ... okay, over 30 years. When we were at college, this place was original and had an innovative menu. That was years ago and not much has changed BUT the food is still solid and tasty. Both my boys ended going to colleges out this way and they seem to like the menu and its comfort food. I have not had a bad meal here. While their items are not original (a step above pub food), the food is always fresh and as advertised. The prices are decent as well. At my most recent visit, I had a Thanksgiving Sammy which is a turkey sandwich with all the fixings (stuffing, cranberry chutney, mayo and onion strings). It was perfect - we missed Thanksgiving this year due to a death in the family so this sandwich worked for me on so many levels. read more

Traveling from out of state, this town was suggested to go dine at. It was about a 20 min scenic drive from Westfield where I was staying and it well worth it. I drove around awhile as there were MANY restaurants to chose from and FitsWilly's stood out to me. Parking is a premium as the town was packed on a Wednesday evening Aug 8. I was welcomed right in and with openings at the bar, I decided to eat there. The bartender was on the spot and made a few entree suggestions. I went the safe route and chose the Reuben. Prob not the healthiest item, but it really sounded good. I ended up eating it open faced to cut down on bread. Great flavor. The service was great, the food awesome, the decor was very cool like an old brewery. The place was packed but not too loud. TVs at the bar showing local baseball game. I met a regular patron and it seemed this was the place to be. I'll come back when in the area. read more
