On a stunningly gorgeous, cloudless day, we took a ride to anywhereville and ended up in Westfield Mass. Both Yelp and Google reviewed The Maple Leaf Pub favorably, so that clinched our decision. A side note that there is LOADS of free parking in numerous muni lots (up to 3 hrs). Sez a lot about the welcoming vibe of Westfield. We sat at the bar, and were served (and entertained) by Bridget. When I asked how her day was going, she said "peachy". I replied "not ducky?", to which she replied, "that's later, and much later it's #&*#@!!". On to the food and libations. I ordered fish & chips, with Smuttynose Old Brown Dog Ale (never had it b4. It was really good, plus fewer calories than Bissell Brothers The Substance, which is helpful as I get prepared for bikini season). She, who eats like a rabbit, had a lot of green stuff (salad?), and a white wine. Couple things about my food. Their fish comes daily - thus never sees the inside of a freezer. The fries are handcuffed (autocorrected from hand cut). Their slaw and tartar are made on-site. Everything was very fresh, even Bridget, who was attentive, affable, capable, able. My friend's greens were....GREEN! Anyway, we both enjoyed everything. And I was stuffed to the gills. 2 fins up. Equivalent to 4.5 stars.

First time eating here we were greatly surprised. The fish and chips was excellent. Slaw was excellent with it as well. My black bean burger with the sweet potato fries was excellent as well. Service was right on it, and it was a very quiet place to have a dinner on Sunday.

Fried pickles were great! - A basket of fried pickles with a side of dipping sauce is placed on a restaurant table, with a glass of soda nearby.

Visited Maple Leaf on a Sunday evening with husband and two teenage kids. Restaurant/bar was clean and inviting. Waitstaff very friendly and welcoming. We got the fried pickles and nachos to start. Pickles were amazing! Nachos very good and a huge portion for the money. Also had a beer cheese soup which was outstanding! For entrees we got a veggie wrap, hamburger, and a Philly cheesesteak flatbread. All were great! I especially enjoyed the burger and fries. Will definitely visit again soon. So much better than the local 99 or Applebee's and a great value.

Fried pickles appetizer! Amazing! - Basket of fried pickles with dipping sauce on parchment paper at an outdoor dining area, with a menu and drink in the background.

Again, the food did not disappoint and our waitress, Taylor, was wonderful. As busy as it was the service was quick and efficient.

I have had one of the cranberry salads to go which is fairly normal for what it is. I went back a second time to sit down and have one of the chicken sandwiches, which is a beautiful piece of chicken in a delicious roll, and lots of good drink options. I am the kind of person who likes to go out for dinner and pecks through the day, so sandwiches aren't always my go to food for breakfast/lunch because they are a bit heavy for a midday meal for me. Other people I know who swear by these sandwiches will choose to go to Ray Ray's every time over one of the fast food options for certain. If you aren't in the mood for a bagel at the new bagel place, this is an option that you might want to keep in your back pocket. When I went there, it must've been a school break because I believe they were children that were helping, and it had a really warm family vibe with friendly service.

We opted for a spicy chicken sandwich and a cranberry walnut salad. The sandwich was robust and the sweet potato fries came with a house-made peach honey mustard that was over the top. The salad was giant and packed with so many walnuts and cranberries that I couldn't finish it all. Roasted Brussels sprout leaves sprinkled on top added the perfect umami twist. Easy off and on from the MassPike. Bonus: live music (good!) on Saturday afternoons.

My usual go-to is a burger w fries, and TRTAH does a great job w them, but opted today for a steak sandwich w carmelized onions, green peppers, and cheese on Italian bread (you can also get it w pizza dough, calzone style). BB had a pastrami on rye. Both came w French fries. My hero (grinder to you locals) was mouthwatering. The bread was lightly toasted and perfect. Everything else was melded together. My taste buds did a happy dance! BB said the pastrami was very lean. French fries are hand cut, and salted perfectly. One suggestion...if you have high blood pressure, get them unsalted from the kitchen, and salt (or not) to your heart's content. I think I have a new go-to. 5 yummmmmy stars

The rodeo burger has bbq sauce, French fried onions and bacon topped with cheddar cheese. The fries were my least favorite. A little soggy and over cooked. The hot garlic wings were good. Service was okay, but we found ourselves waiting a while (last customers on deck) and had to go inside to pay when we wanted to leave.

Beginning in 2002, Pac and Osella began getting together on weekends to homebrew and create food pairings. Pac brewed the beer while Osella (a chef) crafted the food pairings. In 2014, the duo launched 'Skyline Hop Shop' as an alternating proprietorship operation inside Westfield River Brewing Company at 707 College Highway. Osella offered fresh food that paired well with WRB's brews while Pac offered home brewing classes and supplies. They quickly outgrew the space and reopened as 'Skyline Trading Company' at 124 Elm Street in 2016. At this location, Pac and Osello expanded their menu both of food and beer, adding craft whiskey and tequila to the mix. After outgrowing their space again, the partners moved to 98 Southwick Road and reopened as 'Skyline Beer Company' in December 2019. Head brewer Dana Bishop came on board as additional partner, and Coy Chaney was hired as the Assistant Brew Master. The current 4,500-square-foot restaurant and taproom offers 24 rotating draught lines, cocktails, a full food menu, and beautiful views of the rolling hills of Western Mass. I recently visited Skyline Beer Company while I was cycling on the nearby Columbia Greenway Rail Trail. Skyline was on my list of breweries to try for a while, so I decided to stop by for some beers and bites. The taproom and restaurant was spacious and inviting with plenty of seating both inside and outside. I opted to sit outside and began to look over their extensive beer and food menu. I ordered a sampler flight that included "Forget Me Not" (New England Pale Ale), "Up In Smoke" (New England IPA), "Listening Juice" (Double IPA), and "Mother Ocean" (New England IPA). For food, I ordered a plate of delicious "Pretzel Bites & Cheesy Sauce". I really enjoyed all of the beers that I tried, but "Up In Smoke" (with delicious notes of grapefruit and marshmallow) was easily my favorite! I ended up ordering a full pour of it before leaving. The pretzel bites were equally delicious and paired well with my beers. I had an exceptional experience at Skyline and I look forward to returning in the future!

Why did we assume that? Well, their big on-line menu coupled with its reference to "restaurant" on their website sure had something to do with it. Here's a quote from their website: "Our Farm-to-Table Restaurant & Retail oasis is a celebration of community, sourcing all of the all-natural beef we serve from our farm, just minutes away!" So, we were pretty surprised to only see an ordering counter and freezer cases when we walked in. But we did get over our disappointment when we walked around their showroom where the walls were jam packed with meats and prepared foods in refrigerated and freezer cases. Steaks, roasts, soups, and prepared entrees were everywhere. The selection was pretty dazzling. We learned that they had a nice feature with their prepared entrees, namely buy one get a second for half off. We bought a two pretty big frozen trays of Chicken Marsala with rice and broccoli, and beef Stir Fry with veggies and noodles. I just put them on our kitchen scale, and each are between a pound and a pound and a half. One was $10.70 and the second was marked down to $5.35, so that's at least two (probably more) very nice dinners for around $8 each. One sour note was the unsmiling, unfriendly cold shoulder customer service experience. Barely a word was spoken by the woman who processed our order.
