I've been coming to O'Brien's for lunch occasionally for many years. The place is small and sometimes filled with day drinkers or folks drinking on their lunch break. The food has always been seriously hit or miss, their consistency is absolutely horrible. Perhaps it's because they go through cooks like crazy and none stay that long. I completely agree with other reviewers about glove etiquette. It's always awesome to walk by the cook smoking outside then she goes in without handwashing, then handles your food without putting on gloves. Also I agree with other reviewers about the service, if you're not a "regular" you're treated as if you're bothering them. Sue? Takes phone orders, services the counter, puts orders together, etc. she has been there for some time and she's somewhat difficult to deal with because of that. She'll let you know how important her job is, trust me on that one. Many of the guys I work with order from here too and they experience the same issues. I go to O'Briens generally as a last resort because it's quick and easy. You're WAY better off going to get food at EAT down on Page, by CRC and across the street from Gendens Auto Parts. I've use to go there years ago every Wednesday for there open faced Rubin , it was the best. Unfortunately it was a Tuesday. So I got the Rubin with Cole slaw. A crock of chilly and a Guinness. It was like 11:30am so it wasn't that busy , the waitress got my drink and placed my order in a reasonable time . She brought out the chilly and my Rubin at the same time, apologizing that there coming out together. I never would have ordered the chilly if I knew they were going to send them out together. My Rubin and fries ! Yes fries were ok, she messed up my order and I got fries instead of the coleslaw. My receipt said fries $2 on it , so it was the waitresses mistake . The Rubin needed a little more thousand island on it . Maybe order some extra on the side ? I took 1/2 my sandwich home and added some extra sauce , it was even better . Prices were reasonable . But for a place not too busy . A few too many mistakes . I'll be back on a Wednesday. read more

Met a few friends from the old neighborhood for breakfast. Great atmosphere, service, prices and quality of food!

Went with a good ol friend of mines and the bar tender yesenia and this dike women natasha were very rude about me ordering 3 drinks at a time. There profanity itself made me just not keep ordering. Anyways, they lost a very good customer now. The owner of this small place needs to know who really is running this bar. And for (YESENIA AND TASHA) Please brush ya teeth. Stopped in this morning with Demanding Dan for breakfast. Neither of us had ever been here b4, although we both had passed by on numerous occassions. Ample parking, smallish interior (at least on the restaurant side). Service was excellent. Sue brought our drinks right away, as well as our orders. DD had a sausage and cheese omelet, with HF. I had eggs over with home-made CBH. We both had rye toast. The food came out pretty fast, and was steaming. A couple of things: my CBH was def homemade, with nice chunks of CB; the HFs looked excellent, with just the right amount of char on the sides; egg dishes are all with 3 eggs. Prices are very reasonable. I asked DD how he would rate his food, service, etc. He said 5-star. So, DD now stands for Docile Dan, instead of Demanding Dan. One extra bonus - if so inclined, you can get a shot of Jameson's with your breakfast. Overall, a not-so-hidden gem. If you're looking for good grub at reasonable prices, this is worth the trip. If you're looking for ambiance and flowers on the table, this is not the place. read more

Got called into work early for 3am, had no time to eat or fix breakfast. Became very hungry and was craving blueberry pancakes... My co worker was on the phone and ordered me breakfast . Blueberry pancakes with eggs and cheese and bacon. I devoured it and was so thankful and happy. This was my first time having food from O'Brien's. I will be ordering breakfast from here again; food was fresh and hot. Pancakes were delicious, fluffy, and hit the spot. I was satisfied for the rest of my shift. The pancakes were packaged separate from the eggs and cheese, but I put everything together in one plate once receiving the order. Yum Yum. read more

This is a great neighborhood type bar. But don't let that mislead you from the amazing food. Most of the seating is around the large bar. Prices are misleading to the quality of the meals. We had the Baked Haddock and the Home Style Lasagna. The Baked Haddock came with a side of rice and carrots that had a unexpected and welcomed flavor of maple syrup. The fish was well cooked and coated with crackers. The portion was generous. The lasagna felt like the one your mom made in all the good ways. It was hot, Cheesy, saucy and had ground beef and pepperoni that was unexpected and awesome in the lasagna. The wait staff is attentive and the locals who are regulars are welcoming and friendly. Defiantly a must come place. One of my friends is a pretty awesome cook and foodie and she raves about their Friday Fish & Chips and scallops. read more

This is a quintessential Irish bar 365 days a year not just on St.Patrick's day. Now if you wish to savor St. Patrick's day at O' Brien's get there early or be prepared to stand for a considerable length of time in an elbow to elbow backside press before a seat opens up at the bar. The service is always good even when they are extremely busy, the menu is solid with many of your old Irish and pub favorites and a nice variety of homemade soups is served each and every day . The prices are more than reasonable for food or drink anytime of year, the atmosphere is Emerald Isle inviting and your experience will truly be one of a kind. Oh the corn-beef you ask, will of course as "tender as me mother's love". There are very few Irish Bars in the Greater Springfield area with as rich a tradition as O'Brien's even with the recent change in ownership things remain as they should. read more

One of my favorite breakfast/lunch spots in Springfield. Always has been. Best Ruben sandwich on the planet. A must stop when in Mass.

Mostly a bar with a small (3 table/diner) restaraunt attacched. Very simple and welcoming. I have been two times and I have to say the fish n chips are terrific. Very generous portions and the batter is on point. Fish is firm and not soggy. My biggest disappointment is the Guinness. ..two times. They poor the Guinness as if it were any other beer. I am pretty particular about my Guinness and I am just plain disappointed here. There is no substitute for a proper pour. read more

This is the local watering hole for Solutia Inc. and the Post Office Distribution center. It has a nice hole in the wall type bar. The wait staff can have a bit of an attitude, but not enough to be off putting. Selection of bar and liquor is standard but the atmosphere is good. Food is decent, despite the sign on the outside of the building boosting the best seafood in Springfield. Because the bar is attached to a small restaurant, the selection is a bit broader than your normal bar fare. Friends have loved the crab cakes and stuffed mushrooms. I have eaten here for lunch once, and I had a delicious traditional Shepard's pie. In short, OK food, good bar. read more

I honestly didn't love this place. Not sure if I really even liked it. Wait staff was friendly and attentive but the food was terrible. Omelet was insanely greasy, I actually couldn't believe whoever was cooking would need to oil the flat top that much. It was almost unbearable. The home fries were dull and flavorless- but not in an under seasoned way, more like there was a seasoning present that I wasn't able to place and it just wasn't suppose to be there; and there was too much of it. I'm guessing this place is always packed with regulars who have been going there for years and families. And that's okay, it just wasn't the place for me. read more

The clam chowder is good in the few dining room tables, but you have to wade thru the blue collars in the bar to negotiate the bathrooms, not a good option with anyone not able bodied. Will not go back. read more

I've only been here once. I had a good time. Early morning about 8am guys getting off of a night shift wanted to go for breakfast and beers. Perfect idea after a long week. My husband and I were searching for breakfast places that were delicious and served alcohol. We drive by this place everyday for work and decided to give it a try.
