The food was absolutely awful. I was very surprised on a Saturday night the place was dead at 8:30pm. The specialty drinks were terrible. The pumpkin martini looked and tasted like pure milk it was white. The caramel apple came in a pint class. It should be a martini drink not a pint glass drink. We got the sampler for an appetizer. The only good thing on there was the onion rings. Everything else was not good. Wings weren't saucy, Irish egg rolls tasted funny, Irish balls we're bland not flavor. Dinner my wife got the patty melt. The only thing good she said was the French fries. Our friends got a burger and Ruben sandwich both said they were terrible. I got the shepherds pie. I am Irish and have a huge problem with this dish. It was all potato and hardly any filling in it. Very bland and very disappointing. Non of us finished our dinners because the food was awful. We were so looking forward to a nice Irish pub. Very disappointed in this place. Will never ever go back. SHAME ON YOU NATHAN BILLS. Our sever was good. Whether you're visiting the city or a resident who (maybe?) doesn't get out much this is a place worthy of a stop. Nathan Bill's is the epitome of the friendly neighborhood bar. In truth, it goes beyond that with its restaurant style seating, cozy banquet space, and new outdoor bar patio. There are TV's everywhere and Keno to be played. I've always found the drinks to be poured with a healthy zeal and the food to, in most cases, exceed what you'd consider "pub fare". They have daily specials that sometimes vary between lunch and dinner with a reasonably wide reaching menu. I'm a sucker for any joint that has great sweet potato fries. Consider it a character flaw, whatever. This place has them. The Guinness stew is delectable and my wife loves the "Irish Balls". Nathan Bill's has "wicked" deep ties to the community. They are as charitable as any business in the city and frequently host monster fundraisers because that's what they do. The Governor has been known to stop by, enough said. If you go at night, especially on the weekend, you'll see more of the "bar side" of Nathan Bill's. It's packed and there's plenty of security. read more

Seemed like a nice place but I had a very crappy experience here. I asked for a certain brand of beer and the bartender told me only a seasonal version was available. I said no thank you and asked if she had another suggestion. She suggested an IPA that I later found out cost $11.50 a pint! She did not tell me this when I ordered it and the prices were not listed anywhere I could see. I'm not a young person. I know what a beer usually costs. But that price is ridiculous and should've been pointed out ahead of time. Just gross. read more

Good food and the bar scene is lively. They don't serve food past 10pm on Friday and Saturday which is inconvenient, so people leave and go to Aldolfos or Christopher's. Im not saying they should have a full menu, but nachos or stuff like that should be available. read more

I am from out of town, and I came back a second night in a row because of the great food, great atmosphere but mostly because the bartender Shannon was extremely sweet, attentive, kind and overall the reason I came back. As a bartender myself, I was so pleasantly surprised by how comfortable she made me feel, and despite being in town for only a short while, I fully intend on returning tomorrow. The trivia is also extremely great. Overall, an outstanding experience in ever. ***UPDATE*** I came back again several weeks later, and had the pleasure of being served by Dennery, who is just as accommodating, sweet, attentive and wonderful as Shannon. Again, I am a bartender and I am BLOWN away at the tremendous service, experience and overall great time I've had here. If I could give 10 stars I would. Starting off with 4 stars because the food is amazing here. When we all think of bar food; we don't have much of high expectations. I ordered the nachos, chicken quesadillas and sweet chili tenders to share. All the plates were flavorful with just enough crisp. That's what I would recommend to start if you're not sure what to get. Drinks there are not bad either, I typically stick with my gin and tonic. Due to Covid, they have created an outdoor seating area with a tent over. It's usually pretty busy out there (have to get there earlier on Fridays/Saturdays if you want a spot) but a nice change from the inside seating. Although they do lack communication and customer service is everything if you want your patrons to return. We sat inside and were told once a table opens up outside that we would be next on the list. It seems that there wasn't much of a list and the host/servers were letting random customers walk out there whenever. We brought up this issue and one of the servers told us to "have at it", which if we knew from the beginning then we would have just walked out there like anyone else. This wasn't a huge issue to me only because once we were out there, our bartender/server, Casey was very sweet and quick to provide our drinks. Overall, I have been returning to Nathan Bills frequently due to it being the 'hot spot' in town for the younger crowd and late hours. I have enjoyed my experience here but hope that they do train staff to communicate better with their customers. It will make a difference in the long run if they want their business to prosper. read more

The drinks are good when you can get one. "Fallon" at the bar is the most miserable person I've ever encountered. I was told the juke box was only to be used after 10PM but there is nothing indicating that. "Fallon" was incredibly rude and let us put our money in the juke box before telling us it's not allowed. Wish she said something before saying we weren't allowed to use it. She also spent her whole timely loudly complaining that the next bartender is always late and wants to leave. I usually enjoy my time here but this bartender needs to work on her customer service skills. The reason for the quotation marks is I don't think that's her real name. Pleasantly surprised. For years this place gave me the impression of a post college hang out. After a few visits I want to leave a review. The food here is outstanding. The service is adequate but it is always busy here. We were there on a Thursday for prime rib night. I did not order the prime rib as I did not think it would be good. Well I had a taste and it was delicious! My wrap was tasty but the prime rib stole the show. The drinks were good, a little too much ice but good. Ooooohhh Nathan bills. With such a large beer selection and food selection how could you not love this place? They always have something great on their specials too! The food is so so good. We go every Wednesday for bar scattegories and honestly everyone always has such a great time. The prices aren't crazy, but deff a tiny bit more expensive, but the food is really worth it. When it's bar there is a huge patio where you can sit out under umbrellas or now under the huge beautiful covered bar. The staff is great, the beers are cold, and the foods amazing... what else could you ask for? This is also a place for all ages. During the day it's a little older crowd, but at night it gets a little younger. If you like dancing they have a bit of that too Friday and Saturday night! I have to admit Nathan Bill's is the best all around place to be at in Springfield because it is in a relatively safe neighborhood in comparison to other bars in Springfield. In addition, they have a large parking lot so it is not too difficult to find parking when you want to go out and get a few drinks with friends, but not too many though unless you have a DD. The most spectacular thing about Nathan Bill's is their live music by a local band who are absolutely AMAZING! and they usually play every Thursday night. The food at Nathan Bill's is not too bad either, I was at Nathan Bill's for a Wedding Rehearsal Dinner and their were absolutely perfect! Their chicken was moist, flavorful, and delicious! When it comes to chicken that is served buffet style, I usually expect dried up chicken, but that does not fit Nathan Bill's standards because every piece of chicken was consistently moist and delicious. Their rice was perfectly cooked as well and trust me, I know my rice since it is something I have eating since the womb. They have a very friendly staff who are always attentive at the bar and will make sure you are taken care. I remember whisper for a glass of water and she got it for me. Hella impressed! Overall, Nathan Bill's is the place to be whether you are looking for a place to hang-out and have a beer or have a banquet. read more

Today I went in and put money in the jukebox to play music, and then a bartender proceeded to be EXTREMELY rude telling me that music can't be played until 10 because "that's the rules". Then why don't you put a sign out or turn the machine off?? The bartender needs an attitude check and needs some work in customer service. Here playing scategories with a few friends. It's every Wednesday and Trivia is Tuesday's. They start kinda late so we are never able to stay until the end but it's still fun and you get shots each round you win! The end winner gets a $25 gift card. The place is a very casual. From my one time there, i found it unimpressive and overpriced. I've only been once, so maybe it was just our server, but she was pretty bad. Forgetful, ignored a lot of the party, a bit dim. The beer selection was pretty typical, nothing special. Seating was ample which was nice. The food: Some bad, some good. Most a rip-off. The Irish Balls - excellent appetizer! Delicious, I would eat a ton of them if it wasn't 10 bucks for 5 little balls of fried potatoes. They must make a killing off of these because there is really nothing to them, and no reason to charge so much. If these were 3 bucks, I'd probably spend way more at this place and get stuffed on those. The Nachos - decent tasting, lots of toppings, again, over priced for what you get. The jalepenos on them were fresh though, which is a nice change from the grey-green jalepenos from the can that most bars slop onto their nachos. Stuffed Mushrooms - stuffed with crabmeat - fake crab meat, again overpriced, but tasty. Fish and Chips - awful. Don't bother unless you love batter. Seriously, the pieces of fish were like donuts. You'd think a bar with so many fried items on the menu would know how to make fish and chips. Patty Melt - not awful, but nothing to write home about, other than that there was so little cheese i had to pull the sandwich apart to make sure it wasn't forgotten about. I asked for Medium rare, and it was nicely cooked medium rare meat though, pink in the middle, but somehow dried out a bit. The fries were excellent. They like to keep the doors open so that everyone inside can enjoy the people smoking just outside the door. And of course, dinner was accompanied by your typical acoustic duo playing songs everyone's sick of and no one really wants to hear anyhow. Not a bar to get excited about, and not a place I would go out of my way to go to. If someone said "Hey lets go back there!" I'm a little shocked that I liked this place so much, but I was pleasantly surprised! They have a decent tap selection, including a few IPAs as well as seasonals. The mixed drinks (according to my friends) were pretty good too. Thumbs up for the bar. The food is what really surprised me. I opted for the appetizer sliders as my entree and they were delicious. They were surprisingly flavorful with tasty bacon mayo and caramelized onions. The mini buns were really good and the beef itself was yummy. My friend had the quesadillas and said they were really good too. We shared sweet potato fries (fresh out of the fryer, but pretty generic sweet potato fries). I live in New York, although I grew up not far from Nathan Bill's. Friends from the area have been recommending this place for a while, so I was determined to make a visit while home. Their recommendation proved great. This is a great place. Food was fantastic. Burgers are fresh and absolutely delicious (and I am fussy). Service was excellent. Nice atmosphere. Without question, this will become a hangout while I'm home visiting family. Highly recommended. read more

Stopped here on New Years day to a very quiet recovering crowd. Just came off a nice hike in Hampden and this was the fourth place we stopped, first place that was thankfully open. Average tap selection, most larger regionals available. Also the typical "Irish" selections. Guiness, Smithicks, Stella. We ordered the cheesburger chowder, a solid warm soup. Good mix of meat and potatoes. The potates still had some texture and it made for a filling solid soup. Also ate the Reuben, certainly solid. The only thing I wish was it was a bit sloppier. The meat was really tender and the fries were well seasoned. I could have eaten a full basket of them. I'll check this place out again. Its close enough to make it a stop on a regular basis...only time will tell. read more

We were slow to discover Nathan Bills. We have visited for dinner and even joined the crowd on last St Pats day. The service is always friendly. You don't have to be Irish to be welcome here. The decor is a pleasantly pubby style. My favorite dinner choice is the fish and chips. It's a huge portion with a crispy batter. I'm glad we live nearby. There is a wide selection of beer and ale, a whole page of selections. Sometimes they'll be out of something but there's always plenty of choice. The wait staff tend to be young so they can't help you choose, ask the bartender or other older staff. read more

I've only ever been here for drinks but it was a good experience. I used to be a fan of O'Brien's pub when I lived in the area but from what I've been told that place has taken a turn of sorts so at the recommendation of a few friends I decided to setup camp on a barstool at Nathan Bill's. The beer selection is good with the regulars that one would expect in New England and a few curveballs as well to keep your pallet excited. The only thing that I wouldn't recommend is the trivia. I have been there twice on Trivia Nights now and its more geared towards the college crowd. If you're a mid-level trivia savant at some of the other establishments around, you'll lose interest quickly at this one. The quality of it just doesn't cut it. read more
