Only came here to try a few beers. And here is my working class blue collar review. I only had two beers and they both tasted like they came straight out of a garden hose. Yeah I'm a 90's kid I remember drinking water out of the green hose and this is exactly what these beers tasted like poured through a 1995 green garden hose. read more

Came here with my son (who's attending college nearby) and my wife on a Sunday evening. There was a 15 minute wait despite there being several tables open. I understand they may be short on wait staff but it's always preferred to be seated at a table than waiting by the stairs. We ordered our drinks which took awhile to get and after ordering the food, that took even longer to come out. We weren't in a rush nor starving but the wait was considerably longer than what felt normal The food wasn't bad. Only thing notable was my son's burger which was supposed to be medium rare was cooked all the way through. My catfish and chips was good but nothing special. We ate here twice in one weekend. It was that good! Both times I ordered the Thai Peanut sauce shrimp and both times my wife had the Apple/Walnut salad with chicken. I also had the black and blue burger and fish and chips (Cod). Loved them both! The Unshakeable IPA was my favorite. My wife loved the Toasted Head Chardonnay. My wife and I have visited the Northampton Brewery twice and we really like it! The decor is modern and there are two fireplaces you can sit near. There is a nice selection of beer and mixed drinks, plus a full bar. The service is very good. Attentive but not overbearing. We had plenty of time to enjoy our drinks and appetizer before our meals came, which we appreciate. The nachos are really good! Plenty of toppings. The pork belly bahn mi is excellent! It is something I will definitely order again! The pork belly is in chunks with a sticky, sweet and salty glaze that I love. Tonight, it was the bartender / waitress that took such great care of me that turned my experience at Northampton Brewery into a five star experience. It's the tail end of the August heat wave and it is just too hot to be outside, so I brought my laptop and my appetite to Northampton Brewery. I hooked on to their wifi, ordered a beer and spent the next four hours taking up a table in the bar area. While I was here, Jamie was attentive, active, humorous and very busy taking care of tables in the bar area with hustle, with humor and with a great smile. It's clear that she enjoys what she does and she does it well. I went through two or three beers and a plate of boneless chicken wings while I did some work, some Yelp and some fun. Catfish bites are delicious. Just wanted to lead this review with that. Stopped in with a couple buddies of mine after running the first Western 10 mile run from Amherst to Noho. Needed some fuel for the body so went with a chowder and bacon cheese burger. I enjoyed the chowder, ordered burger medium rare and was more medium. If you like your bacon crispy ask for it that way. Buddy was raving about the catfish balls so gave it a whirl. Don't know if I could eat an entire appetizer of them but seasoned perfectly and fish was cooked to purrrfection. One was enough to say these were good for never having catfish before. Was there when they opened (Sunday) and the time I left bar was jammed packed and tables were full. Overall wasn't anything spectacular for me minus the catfish ball. 3.5 is a realistic review. read more

My wife and I were headed to a shoe and needed a bite to eat beforehand. Hadn't been to Northampton Brewery for a few years so we decided to try it out. We were greeted politely and seated within two minutes. Our waiter came to the table quickly and our order was taken within 10 minutes of arriving. The place has some smaller nooks and open spaces. We were in a nook that was cozy without being packed in like sardines. Table and floors were clean as were the bathrooms. Our server, Nick, was very polite, professional, and very personable. He was there when we needed him and was not too overbearing. He brought everything to the table quickly and ensured we had what we needed. My wife wasn't that hungry and decided to have the chicken tenders and the Fresh Punch. I ordered the Pork Belly Banh Mi with a Black Cat Stout. Our drinks came out quickly and our food came out at a good pace. The chicken tenders were tender and juicy. Not overcooked and not under seasoned. There were about five/six on the plate and they were a good size. Dipping sauces were very good too. My wife liked the drink too. Just boozy enough and still very refreshing. I usually am not impressed with restaurant meals. I have had some very good ones and some very bad ones. This was memorable! The Banh Mi was delicious. It was a flavor explosion that contained everything you could want in a bite: sweet sour, spicy, salty, umami... It had it all! The pickled vegetables and slaw balanced out the rich sweetness of the pork and the jalapeños and cilantro perked up everything with some herbaceous spice. This is the first dish in over twenty years that I would go back for specifically out of the many places I have eaten. To me, this was an outstanding experience! Nice work all around. read more

Beautiful brewery set on a quiet street allowing for great ambiance. Staff were super friendly who went out of their way to accommodate all patrons. I ordered the altbier and squiddy enjoyed the Pilsner ( 2 actually). As for food, a turkey club and a steak salad. Both great. Of course a hoodie was purchased and the manager, who had the best personality, assisted me to get the best one. Will be back next time I venture to Northampton MA. read more

Northampton Brewery is our absolute favorite place to dine in Northampton. I love the salads, particularly the steak and beet & goat cheese salads. The portions are generous; you don't leave hungry at all! My husband loves the burgers and we often share the Brussels sprouts - delicious! There are also lots of beverage choices: fresh beer made on location (even a gluten sensitive beer which is awesome!), a nice wine list, creative cocktails, spiked seltzers that they also make, and some fun mocktails. Beyond the food and drink, the staff is friendly and accommodating and there are plenty of cozy nooks to snuggle into and relax. There are a couple different fireplaces which are nice in the winter. In the milder months sitting outside on any of the decks is lovely. They always have pretty flowers planted and ample umbrellas and awnings to create shade when it's super sunny out. Good Spot, I like it here. -- Visit # 2 -- Stopped back into the Northampton Brewery for lunch, this time I ordered the patty melt with onion rings. To be honest I expected it to be smaller!! The burger was cooked to my liking (medium) on grilled marbled rye and was topped with Swiss cheese, caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms and a little 1000 Island dressing. It was great!! The onion rings felt like they were made in house (rather than frozen) and were nice and crispy. I highly recommend this sandwich. read more

WORST WINGS IN WESTERN MASS? I ordered their Tiger Chicken Wings. It was $16 for 8 wings which already heightened my exceptions because $2 a wing is not cheap. The plating was lame and almost offensive. Wings were bone dry, under sauced. The sauce was BAD! It was bitter and sour, but its advertised as a spicy bbq sauce. Just bad wings all around I had to get extra bbq sauce on the side to dip it to make it half decent. The Brussel Sprout appetizer was also abysmal. It was burnt to the grave, and unseasoned, not a trace of salt. Fries were also unsalted and way to thinly cut to not be crisp, wasn't a fan. If you're coming here it's for porch seating or the newly renovated dining room, not for the food. Just don't order wings or sprouts maybe you'll have better luck. read more

While in Northampton last weekend I stopped by their brewery. This place has been on my radar since my last few trips to this town. The Northampton Brewery has a really fun patio for outdoor seating in the summer, unfortunately the day I went was rainy and overcast, so I didn't get to sit outside. The inside is also really fun, they have their dining room and their bar area in separate spaces. This establishment feels more like a restaurant then a brewery, maybe because their menu is pretty broad, they also offer all kinds of spirits, cocktails and wine, not just beer. I went went with my family of three. Our waitress was Elena, she's a multitasker for sure. She serviced multiple tables at once, it was a busy night, with large groups, and little kids who made big messes. We ordered a Margherita pizza with mushroom and pepperoni, Elena suggested we add balsamic to it, not something I'd normally do, but she seemed to know what's good. This is a small personal pizza, we also ordered their Crunchy Thai Salad, and their home cut fries, all to share. The pizza was an excellent choice, it was juicy and flavorful, with a nice kick from the balsamic, but there was hardly any mushroom. The crust was crispy, but not too dry. The salad was perfect, it had all the veggies in it, it was colorful, fresh and crunchy. We could add protein to it, but we didn't since we had pizza and fries also. The fries were ok, a nice size and nicely seasoned, I'd prefer them to be a bit more crunchy. I really loved their beer. I mean this is a brewery firstly. Penelope is delicious! I don't think it's the best pairing with my meal, but I still really enjoyed it.. this is a mild sour of pineapple and peach. It is light and so easy to enjoy. It just tastes like an easy, summer afternoon outside, while with great company and music. I really enjoyed The Northampton Brewery, the service is excellent, the food was delicious and my Penelope beer was just my type. I'll be back, hopefully on a pleasant day on their patio. read more

"There's one thing I wanna know: What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding"? (Elvis Costello) What's easier to find? True understanding or truly great beer? The Northampton Brewery's slogan may give you a clue- how about Peace, Love and Beer? These guys have been around for 32 years They offer beers from just about every beer style you can name- including the stouts, IPAs, lagers, pilsners, and ciders we saw today. If beer ain't your thing, never fear because you can also wet your whistle with a choice of 29 wines, cognacs, meads, ports or bubblies. If you want a little more horsepower, you can get a flight of whiskey or scotch. Because they have a full bar, they also sell dozens of cocktails and spiked coffee drinks. I drank a pour (well actually 2 pours) of Helles, a German style lager with 5.6% ABV. I loved it! It was very refreshing and drinkable and delish. If you don't favor IPAs (as I don't) this is a great choice and has zero of the characteristic IPA hoppiness. Now Here we are at 183 words, and I haven't mentioned their food yet. This is what you need to know- their food choices are tremendous, and they have a ton of choices. How about ten appetizers including some intriguing choices like Buffalo Cauliflower, Fried Brussels Sprouts, and Prosciutto Wrapped Dates, nine soups and salads, seven sandwiches served with a pickle and your choice of seasoned fries or chips and salsa, six burgers, seven entrees, pizzas, kids meals (yes, we saw a lot of kids there), and desserts. I went into the burger section, and because I like Hot and Spicy Foods, I went for the hard to resist "Volcano Burger" - an Angus beef patty decked out with red pepper flakes, blue cheese crumbles, jalapeños, applewood smoked bacon, hot lava sauce and chipotle mayonnaise on a brioche bun for $13.25. All I can say is "wow" because it was amazing ! Northampton Brewery was stellar in every way - their food, beer, atmosphere, and service were exceptional. And the cherry on top of everything is the municipal lot across the street where parking is a paltry 25 cents per hour. read more

Delicious brews with great food in a comfortable casual atmosphere. Starting with the brews..the Milk & Cookies Stout was delicious and ranks high when compared to other stouts that I have enjoyed. We enjoyed their appetizer selections specifically the Brewhouse Nachos, which were loaded with cheese and a plethora of toppings. The chicken wings offered a balanced Buffalo flavor and were crispy. If you like fish, specifically catfish then the catfish bites with a creole dipping sauce should not be missed. From salads to burgers, they have a vast selection of options. The Spicy Chicken Salad was a favorite of the table but it could have used a few more strips of chicken. The Green Mountain Burger was loaded with flavor, cooked as requested and fulfilled my beef craving. The fries were crispy (no soggy fries found here) and well seasoned. However one downside of the dinner was the presentation of the Portobello Mushroom Sandwich. The liquid from the mushroom made it impossible to pickup the bun, which was soggy and fell apart. That aside the rest of the appetizers and entrees were wonderfully prepared and on point. It is also important to note that Northampton Brewery utilizes a first come, first serve basis. Northampton Brewery is a craft brewpub that opened in Northampton, Massachusetts in 1987. It was founded by Janet Egelston-Cichy. She moved to the state's Pioneer Valley area in the late 1980s to attend school at UMASS Amherst, but those plans quickly changed. Along with her brother Peter (and both of their romantic partners at the time), she decided to open the brewpub. In 1987, Northampton Brewery was one of only about 150 brewpubs in the whole country; today there are over 5,300. Northampton Brewery is the oldest operating brewpub in the northeast. Egelston and her brother also later founded New Hampshire craft breweries Smuttynose Brewery and Portsmouth Brewery. Egelston is no longer affiliated with Portsmouth while Peter is no longer affiliated with Northampton. Donald "Boog" Pacher was the head brewmaster for 13 years but stepped down in 2021 when his wife accepted a job offer in Vancouver, British Columbia. His assistant brewer Steve "Scuba" Bilodeau has since taken over. I've visited Northampton Brewery a number of times over the years. Northampton is a haven for craft beer drinkers and cyclists alike; fortunately I'm both. The brewpub is located right alongside the Manhan Rail Trail, which is not far from where it connects to two other rail trails: the Norwottuck Rail Trail and the Northampton Bikeway. I usually stop by for some tasty brews and bites when I'm biking by. They make excellent appetizers (such as nachos, wings, and catfish bites), salads, sandwiches, burgers and fried fish entrees. After not dining at the Brewery for a few years it seems (for no particular reason) I found myself there twice last month and both times were great! They make a patty melt that is crave worthy. This was my husband and I's 2nd time here and we've never been disappointed. Our 1st time, we sat on the upper deck. I love me a restaurant with nice outdoor seating. The beers are all good. We did bring a growler but they said they don't do that??? For a brewery not to fill growlers seems pretty unusual and certainly a business miss on their part. I would hope they reconsider this in the future. I had the nachos as my entrée which is enough for me to eat for at least 3 full meals and super yummy.
