Pretty cute hole in the wall retro bar. They do a LOT of cute/cool event nights, Mini Hot Dog night, Hello Kitty night, Bob's Burgers night, Rocky Horror trivia...you name it. The night we finally went was for Zelda night. Knowing my boyfriend, we all know he mah be the biggest Zelda fan in western Massachusetts so obviously we had to go! They had one tabletop Zelda game in the facility, it would have been nice to have a few of them so more of us could play/immerse in the Zelda night. They also had Mario playing on the walls which threw me off a bit. There were free stickers all over the bar along with some "rupees" which was a cute touch. It was pretty easy to order the drinks and food, and the staff behind the counter were all very nice. We tried 2/3 drinks and enjoyed both of them. Two food options were made, Hearty Monster Rice Balls, and Meat Pies. The rice balls were honestly pretty good, nothing fancy but good. The Meat Pies filling was good, but the entirety of it was pretty greasy and oily which was a little disappointing. I do hope they do another Zelda night and offer more food options. Whoever owns, manages, and works here deserves to be applauded. They seem to be constantly looking for ways to keep the place fun and exciting. It is just a wonderful spot especially if you love classic arcade gaming. They have an impressive collection of classic arcade games that work great and appear to be well maintained. Many yummy food and drink options. Staff is friendly and super helpful. If you go earlier in the day on a weekend, you may be sharing the space with children. They can be a bit loud, but happy to see so many kids excited over classic games. Later the the day or evening the crowd turns a bit more bar like. Suggest calling first to make sure they are not hosting a private event. Pricing for free play games is very reasonable. I probably spent more $ in the 80's than they are charging. The Quarters is a craft beer bar and classic video arcade that opened in Hadley, Massachusetts in January 2014. It was founded by friends and UMass alumni George Myers and Greg Stutsman. The business venture was something they had tried to put together for years. The idea was to put together a space where adults in their 30s and 40s can relive the things they enjoyed from their teenage years all over again, just now with better clothes and less acne. The space features about 20 vintage arcade cabinets that range from the late 70s to the early 90s, as well as all sorts of vintage sci-fi and fantasy memorabilia. Although those classic arcade games appeal to mainly those who were teenagers in the 1980s, The Quarters has appeal for all ages. The space also features a dozen draught lines for craft beer, a selection of craft cocktails, and a food menu featuring items like gourmet hotdogs and fries with modified toppings. My son and I recently visited The Quarters for lunch while we were cycling the large network of bike trails in and around Northampton. It's located right alongside the Norwottuck Rail Trail and the bike rack outside is decorated with Pac-Man characters. My son and I loved the place as soon as we walked in. Ironically, you don't need quarters at The Quarters. For $10, players can have unlimited arcade play for an hour: that's a great deal! For food, I ordered the "Crispy Chicken Sandwich", my son had the "Chicken & Fries Basket", and together we shared a side order of "Fried Cheese Curds". Everything was delicious! My son and I had so much fun playing classic games like "Ms. Pac-Man", "Frogger" and "Arkanoid". To drink, I had a delicious draught pour of "Cloud Candy" (Hazy IPA) by Mighty Squirrel Brewing Company. Before leaving, I also ordered an "Ecto Cooler" cocktail made with vodka, melon liqueur and Sunny D. This adult-themed Ghostbusters drink tasted great and made me feel nostalgic. I've been to similar places like Barcade and GameCraft, but I felt that The Quarters is easily the most family-accessible arcade bar. As a member of the Hadley community that supports local businesses, I have repeatedly found the Quarters to be closed due to "private parties", or just having their doors closed when the hours show it to be open. Friends who have visited the area have found "private parties" ongoing when heading there to eat also, to be turned away at the door. I live within two miles of this business, and really wanted to support it. I decided to write this second review (my first is no longer there) only after a friend complained to me that the location was closed, which I experienced a few times myself. If you do decide to give them a try, and do experience the same, please post a review to save others time. read more

The Quarters is a business that is clearly struggling with an identity crisis: they're not sure which crowd they want to attract so they pander to kids, college students, and the general public all at the same time-- badly. They hold an array of (creative) wacky events that often hold the rest of the restaurant-goers hostage who did not know about the event beforehand. Their music is too loud to be a place where you can talk, but the atmosphere is also not conducive to dancing either due to lack of open space. They nearly always have a film playing on silent with subtitles, but blast unrelated music next to the screen and don't have any tables or seating area for the people paying attention to the movie. (Though, nobody comes to this place for the movie typically). There is somehow never a menu or table available, despite a low number of people in the venue at the time. In summary, there is usually way too much going on and you never know what you're going to get. If you go here, have a backup plan because it is often closed for a private party or other event but no, you can't call to confirm they'll be open. However, I still give them three stars because their food is great and I do enjoy the games when I'm there. They have very friendly staff who are usually helpful and accommodating and recognize me from previous visits. I do want this business to succeed and I would go much more often than I already do if some of the above issues were dealt with. There's a lot of potential here and I'm still optimistic as they've only been open a few years. read more

Not bad for what it is, and considering that it's cheap, vegan-friendly eats, an interesting option. But I don't think I'd probably eat here again unless I needed to fill an afternoon with games and beer. And I'd probably eat elsewhere first. We were looking for a relaxed place to grab a bite and a beer, and this looked like a good bet from afar. It turned out to be a mixed bag. The good: good draft beer, interesting vegan-friendly menu (which is nice for our flexitarian lifestyle), interesting niche restaurant type we've enjoyed in the past, and outdoor seating to boot. We don't tend to prefer counter service but it's fine when it's so casual. Interesting food selections too - we loved the roasted brussels sprouts. The draft list was pretty good - a cheap option, plus some reasonably-priced craft brews. Interesting artwork in the restrooms too. The bad: All food is outside because of covid restrictions. But this was completely unnecessary; there were never more than 5 people getting lunch at a time. Meanwhile, the air-conditioned inside was mostly unused. Outside was sweltering. The picnic tables were uncomfortable. The counter service system was to place food on a table outside; they didn't want to physically walk up to your table. Given their location it probably wasn't easy to make it a pleasant experience, but we were sitting on picnic tables in a gravel parking lot. The food was, I'd say, acceptable. Or perhaps heroic, given that the place seems more about attracting gamers than foodies. The spicy chicken sandwich wasn't spicy. The menu wasn't large, though it had vegan cheez sauce and a black bean burger option for any of the sandwiches. Not necessary, any of it, but I have had much better food at a similar venue. Overall I'd recommend it for the cheap eats or if you want to play old arcade games. Beyond that, skip. read more

If you graduated high school in the 80's, this is your little slice of heaven. I spent two weeks in the area on vacation, and I wanted to go to The Quarters EVERY DAY. Great rotating barrels, amazing location, vintage video games (I think they were all a quarter a play too), 80's rock, cool bartenders, nice outdoor area where you can bring your doggie, and even the food is great (get the tetris tots and the sliders). I have Celiac so I couldn't have eaten there even if our visit had been possible. It's a tragic shame considering I live across the street from this place and I'm a bonafide pin ball addict!!!! They don't have the awesome variety games that the pin ball bowl in NYC has!!!! I'm not a drinker, this place serves no purpose. It's too small for it's purposes. How can I say more good things about this place...the games are SO much fun, (they have all the greatest hits that you know you loved when you were a kid!), the food is delicious (Tetris tots!), they have plenty of vegetarian options alongside real cheese/ juicy burgers, and the staff is totally welcoming and cool. And I feel like the last few times I got a Groupon it was a fail. But then was hearing from friends it was something fun and different to go hang at. Anyway, just so happened to be passing it today after work and popped in. Decent win, place was slow and pretty much had it to ourselves. I'm looking forward to coming back with a few friends and making a night of it. I didn't try any food today, so no opinion there. Spent the evening with friends at The Quarters last night, and have to say that I haven't had this much fun at a bar since I was 21. This bar to me is the equivalent of an adult Chuck E. Cheese's. The atmosphere was great, the arcade games were classic, and the staff was polite. One critique is the fact that the food and drinks were a bit over priced for the end result. Another is the fact that there were some patrons who camped out in front of a game and would play forever, this was annoying because as we all know, sharing is caring. I've been here before. Last year was friendly sorta. Today I felt unwelcomed and asked to leave as soon as I walked up to bar. There's no signs outside about must wear a mask to enter or have to to book in order to entire. If this is a new thing there should have been someone at the door. When we asked for menus the bartender looked at another lady and she proceeded to sternly tell us " you have to leave now we are at capacity and u must wear a mask to be here." Understandable even tho I have a card for my vaccination but she wouldn't ask. This place if fun. All the games you remember from your youth all in one place. I got a Groupon and we came here one quiet Monday day off. You get unlimited tokens and fries with the deal. Considering you are a captive audience, it would have been so easy to phone in the food items. Not here - we got a nice cross section of the menu and it was all pretty good. The fries (regular and sweet potato) were tasty and I have had better falafel but my favorite were the mini hot dogs with all manner of topping (the bah mi was my favorite). I asked about the hot dog and it is locally made but he did not give me any more info than that. This place is worth it even without the Groupon. It does get busy so be warned - parking can fill up so call first - they also close for private parties and this Monday, they did not open until noon because it was a holiday. read more

This place is solid. It has a great vibe, very friendly people, good drinks and beverages. The food is mostly "ok." but, really, you're not going there for the food. It's really a small bar crammed with video games. Lots and lots of retro fun all around the room. the games are in decent repair. (This coming from a guy that worked in two arcades back in the 80's.) Sure, not perfect, or brand new, but honestly, some of these games are 30-40 years old. Honestly what do you expect? They've taken a beating. They've gone to far off places, and seen monsters of every variety. There surely isn't a LOT of machines, but I do like that they only have one Neo-Geo. I like that most of the machines are the real deal. My favorites are Rampage, and Gauntlet. They have most of the classics, tho. Ms Pacman. Donkey Kong, Mortal Kombat (This one is .50). You get tokens from a change machine, or from the servers, keep them on condiment cups, for which there are table placed next to most of the games. I plan to make it out at night sometime soon. Went to Quarters on a Tuesday night cause they have a dope discount (unlimited games for $5). The environment is very nice and clean, it's one of the coolest places in the western mass! They have a pretty good selection of games even though it is smaller than other arcades I've been too. The drink and food prices are fair. I ordered the Totchos (nacho tater tots) and it was SO GOOD. The sliders were a bit dry but my experience as a whole was amazing. Can't wait to visit again! read more

I highly do NOT recommend having a private party at Quarters! The owner is not accommodating in the least. I was charged $600 to rent the place privately for 2 hours for my daughter's 7th birthday. I arrived about 10 minutes prior to my reservation to set up a few decorations I had brought. When we walked in the place was packed with people playing games and eating. Most people weren't even half way done with their meal. My private party was starting in 10 minutes. The bartender finally went over the microphone and said all public patrons needed to be out by 1 for a private party. I couldn't believe they literally book events back to back like that. Even having the place open to the public right up until my party started! My guests were starting to arrive and the place was slowly clearing out with people taking their sweet time. I was left to quickly rush and decorate as my guests were coming in. Not only that I had to ask the people that work there to clean the tables for me. I was promised by the owner prior that the place would be cleared out and spotless by 1 which was not the case! I was so overwhelmed and stressed out. The experience was just awful for me and for that price it should have been absolutely perfect! The owner does not value the customers experience at all he just has dollar signs in front of his eyes. It's crazy to me that he can't close in between parties or even public gatherings for like 15 min to give people time to transition. This is not only not fair to the customer but also the staff who are left scrambling. I will never be back and don't recommend the place to anyone. I'm putting one star because it forces you to leave one even though I wouldn't give it any stars! read more

I love the vegan kimchi dogs! One order of fries is enough to feed three (or maybe four) people. They always seem to have some sort of cool sounding cereal-flavored drink that draws me in, but they've never been more than "just okay" to me. You can have a solid hour of fun here for $10. We try to hit this spot up on week days because the crowds on the weekend can be overwhelming and take away from the experience. I understand you can rent the place out for a few hours for birthday parties.
