Really good drip coffee. One of the only ones I've ever liked. Has a nut flavor Iced latte is quite good. A little less milk would help, but it isn't too overpowering by default. I appreciate that they don't use the four prong straw tops that pinch your straw to death. read more

One of my favorite coffee shops in SF! Their lattes here are the favorite one I've tasted. The espresso taste doesn't get lost in the milk. It's been consistently good every time we come here. My fiance and I go to both locations, this one on 18th between Mission and Valencia and the other location in Mariposa near UCSF Mission Bay campus. Both have consistent lattes so I never worry which location we end up getting lattes from. The Mariposa location usually has the better parking as it's situated in a quieter neighborhood. We love coming to this location right after Sunday mass at Mission Dolores Basilica, it's a great treat to round out my Sunday mornings! read more

This was a random spontaneous visit a friend of mine who is really into coffee. Both of us have never been to this place and he chose this place from the list of the famous SF coffee places. The store was just the window with a garage and there were no seating area. When we got there around 11am on Saturday, there was a line of around 5 people and we waited for like 10 minutes to order. The menu was very basic and they had coffee beans and some pastries for sale as well. I got cappuccino and my friend got latte. Both of them were good but not super surprising. My friend also got a bag of beans which was the last one for the day and was a seasonal special flavor. Price range and the quality were good for the random morning coffee but not recommended for the coffee tasting or sitting down and catching up with friends. read more

have been seeing this cafe on instagram and thought to give it a try! i've been on a matcha latte hunt lately and so i had to try their matcha latte. i was kinda disappointed because although they had the proper tools (whisk, etc), there was still a lot of powder at the bottom of my drink. the color wasn't as green as i preferred and i knew instantly that the lack of darkness in color would mean that it would taste mostly of milk. i do want to try this location but another one of their drinks as maybe their matcha latte isn't their speciality. i wouldn't recommend getting their matcha latte if you're a huge fan of matcha lattes! parking is also kinda hard to find since it's street parking. read more

Linea symbolizes your classic hole-in-the-wall cafe, it really does feel like someone carved out an alcove on a random Mission street corner to get this lovely setup going. I tried a creamy latte and was glad to hear that they were happy to pour it out in my personal mug! I ended up purchasing a bag of the Big Calm decaf beans to try out at the office espresso machine and they have made for some excellent crema-laden espresso shots. read more

I've come to Linea a couple of times since I live in the neighborhood and have tried both their espresso drinks and brewed coffee. Their espresso drinks are good and always consistent - I usually get a cappuccino with oat milk. Their corner space is cute and it's easy to line up and order from their window. I am a little surprised that a cafè au lait (coffee with steamed milk) costs $5... that would be my only complaint. Otherwise, I've always had a positive experience coming here! read more

Linea was my favorite coffee spot in the city even before I lived in the Mission. Now that I live around the corner, it's my almost daily habit. I cannot confirm nor deny that I may have chosen housing location based on proximity to Linea. Of course, they have excellent coffee, beans & brewed. Their drinks are delicious and consistent. After being in SF for nearly a decade, I would say I am very picky about coffee, so I don't say any of this lightly. But just as important, to me, is the staff/vibe. Many of these baristas know my name and my drink and make me feel welcome and usually make me laugh- great way to start a day. I am a nurse and was working in the Emergency Dept during the pandemic and they delivered coffee & treats to me & my coworkers several times. I feel the love at Linea!! Still The Best Espresso in the city, by far! To comply with city and state Covid-19 requirements, Linea is now operating as a walk-up window on San Carlos, the alley just off 18th. They have excellent signage, markings denoting 6' apart on the sidewalk so that folks waiting in line will remain socially-distant, and they take the order and finish the order for each customer before welcoming the next customer up to the register. This doesn't take as long as it sounds, and helps maintain good social distancing. Their iced latte remains my favorite in the entire city, rich and creamy espresso perfectly melded with high-quality whole milk, with just enough ice to keep it cold without getting watery! The people who work here are friendly, helpful, and hardworking. The owner is nice, neighborly, and generous. The store is kept visibly clean and I appreciate their high-level Covid-safety protocol! read more

Edit: It's not super important but I wish the tiny macchiato cups came with a lid. It's a little uncomfortable not having "protection" for the drink from the environment and it would feel more sanitary with a lid. This is so far the best espresso I've had in the Bay Area! Definitely not the cheapest drinks you'll find but damn is it worth it. I've gotten the macchiato twice now ($4) and it's perfectly rich and creamy. Quality can range from good to great, and there's a decent amount of variability depending on your barista. All that being said, I really did enjoy my oat milk latte and was stoked to finally try midnite bagels, which they have here on Tuesdays and Saturdays. A neighborhood gem for sure. Beautiful modern decors. Very experienced barista. One gem to be preserved given that other coffees are getting increasingly corporate. Located at the heart of mission. There is no parking but worth the trek to be here, enjoying a nice espresso, latte, coffee. The barista may not be very talkative though, but the setting is already perfect. This is a cute little walk-up window near Dolores Park. They offered a range of milk choices, including oat. We loved the coffee. What we loved more, enough to go back before we left the area, was the everything croissant! It was EVERYTHING When we returned only the mushroom croissant remained...it was delicious. Very tasty, fresh artisanal coffee. My favorite after trying many in SF. I order my coffee mail-order from here. The roasting facility has a pleasant industrial atmosphere and buying experience. Not inexpensive, but average by artisinal coffee standards in San Francisco. The seating area is all outside in "park-lets" on the street. There is quite a bit of seating. Good service. read more

I visited Linea last weekend and was reminded of them today during a conversation with a friend "What's the worst rip off in the Bay?" On its face it ticks the boxes, hipster coffeehouse clone. Barista was nice and not obnoxious, but god, should've brewed at home. Simple order, coffee and ice tea, coffee with a splash of cream. $10, Christ, must be quality. But our drinks made us want to scream. My tea was mostly a cup of ice, it was gone in one big sippin' Did it at least taste nice? Meh, like a fancy Lipton. An old friend asked me to lunch. My first response was, "I am in need of coffee" and she said "how about Linea? They have coffee... And waffles" "WAFFLES?! I'll see you in there 20 minutes." We marched over to Linea Cafe on a late Sunday afternoon. It was packed with people inside and out and we were afraid we wouldn't be able to sit to devour our sweets. I had the almond milk latte while she sipped on her cappuccino as we patiently waited outside. The latte was strong and had no trace of almond flavor in the milk. It was frothy and light with a hint of cocoa. As our waffle order was called, a couple was nice enough to offer the 2 empty seats on their table for us to share with them! Yes those round tables were meant to bring happy waffle eaters together! I had the churro waffle while my friend had the bacon and egg waffle. The churro waffle didn't taste significantly like a churro but the similarities came from the cinnamon powder and cane sugar that was sprinkled on top. The chocolate icing on top made it a nice and sweet combination. The waffle itself was very light with a bit of crunch. It was easy to fork off, like I was forking through marshmallow. Overall, I love their interior decor, their light, portioned meals and their strong, bold espresso. Next time I would definitely try their berry waffle with a mocha to go! read more

So apparently I missed the memo that the thing to order, aside from their waffles, is their mocha! CAFE MOCHA ($4.50 - small, $5.00 - large) - 4 STARS: Made with what appeared as 1 full cup of Dandelion Chocolate (85%) chocolate chips, this mocha is more like drinking chocolate than an espresso drink. There is no milk, no sugar, just chocolate water and espresso and it will definitely satisfy your chocolate craving! The barista recommends a small for your visit but I don't think he realized who he was talking to. I pretty much chugged this delicious cup of chocolatey goodness. For the non chocolate fiends this drink could definitely be overload and would agree with the baristas recommendation for the small. Since there is no milk, it's very chocolate forward and I would have actually liked a higher ratio of espresso flavor. Can't wait to try the waffles! read more

When stumbling upon this place a couple months ago, I thought, yay, another coffee joint! What I hadn't immediately realised is that this wee spot actually serves food as well. My inability to 'read' the place could be that when I visited, the kitchen was already closed and there was nary a diner in sight. As I've never eaten at Linea, this review focuses on the espresso counter. On my first visit some weeks ago, I ordered my go-to bev at new-to-me joints: cappuccino. The drink was creamy, balanced & had a slightly nutty taste. Also important: it wasn't exceedingly hot. The kid behind the coffee counter was nice, indulged my questions about the cafe, gave good eye contact and, again, made a damn fine drink. Coffee aside, the other half of the joint is dedicated to food prep/service. The kitchen closes, during the week, at 15.00. Not being hungry, I barely gave it a glance, to be honest. However, I did spy some greens. Based on signage, waffles would appear to be the food du jour. This corner spot is tiny and seating is tight with one bench inside, one outside & a decent no. of outside tables--I'd say 5, or so--to boot. I took a 'lean' at the open window with a nice view of the passersby. Yesterday's second visit had a bit of a 'beardy' vibe. The interaction was a tad more cut and dried with a no-nonsense demeanor from the other side of the counter. This time the capp, while good, was much hotter which rather masks the flavors of the bean. -still fine, still glad I visited. Linea's roastery is off-site elsewhere in the city. 12oz. bags of beans, different varieties, are sold at the cafe. Prices range from 15 to 18 bucks. Bonus: although it isn't listed, one can order a flat white. Tried out Linea Caffe Sun 9/22/13 for my 2nd breakfast. Took Bart to 16th St & walk a few blocks on Mission to 18th St, it's behind the Vietnamese grocery store Duc Loi in a tiny space. They have sweet or savory waffles. I got the yeasted waffle topped w/ greek yogurt & fresh fruit which was strawberries $7 - it was made to order so takes a few minutes, I liked the waffle, but I wanted a more crispy waffle it was pretty soft. Small amount of yogurt & some strawberries. I did pour their homemade syrup on the waffle. Caffe latte small $4.5 - nice latte art, I liked the coffee fine. Added some of the coconut palm sugar into my cup. No seating inside or outside, think they still need to get permits lady mentioned to someone else. Credit cards taken. I was drawn to this spot after drooling over waffle photos on Yelp. Cute little coffee shop with outdoor seating, plus 10 points right there. I had the churro waffle. Fluffy, crispy on the edges, and drizzled with goodness. Pretty effen good. My friend ordered greek yogurt, pineapple, and pomegranate on her waffle. Haven't been able to make it out here because of the location--and I came in with some higher expectations being one of the more popular coffee shops in SF as well as earning quite the reputation. I was met halfway with my expectations. The espresso was very bright, almost too forward--similar to that of a lime. The body had been pretty faint, leading straight to the finish. The end was more dark, dark chocolate--comparative to eating 85% cocoa, with a smoky after taste. I had a cappuccino to lead after to see how it would hold up, the flavors had become a lot more complex being dispersed through with milk. A lot more balanced and pleasing. I was told by a friend their drip was better than their espresso? I'll have to come by again and see if he holds true with his statements. Not bad Linea, not bad read more

The cafe looks closed on 18th but takes order around the corner on San Carlos and unlike the Mariposa location, because customers stay outside, so does the abrupt chaos. Speaking of abrupt chaos, pick your poison, good dog German Shepherd puppy being trained on commands with treats or dude trying to save five steps and insists you, the person behind them in line, need to move aside so they can finally consume their drink/pastry combo... Trick question, you get the self-importance with the wholesome but at least you're caffeinated along the way. Five stars, take my money when I return again. read more
