Just moved to the area. So far this is my fav coffee shop. Great for a gloomy morning treat.
Decent spot overall. Service can vary depending on the barista, but the coffee is good. They also have a wide selection of small snacks, both savory and sweet. Some of the pricing feels excessive. A bottle of water is $4 before tax and tip. Considering it's San Francisco, I'm not surprised, but that still doesn't make it a reasonable price for the average working person. There's also a man who sometimes moves between the roasting area and the bar. I'm not sure what his position is, manager, owner, I don't know, but he's never come across as particularly pleasant or service-oriented. Overall, good coffee and a decent spot, but the service can be inconsistent and some of the pricing feels excessive.
Had to try the wired ghandi, which is an espresso with chai latte. It had just the right amount of sweetness, the chai was very fragrant and the coffee was smooth. No bitterness at all. I've never tried this combination before and I really really loved it here. There are a few tables and counters inside, but it's not exactly the most vibey place to work or chill in. I think it's an excellent place to pick up a drink to go.
I really like the wired Gandhi! I wanted to try their pistachio latte but the staff recommended the wired Gandhi and it was really good. I really like the coffee flavors at this coffee shop and I love how I can sit and chill at the coffee shop. I love the rustic feeling of this location and how there are many pastries and food items too!
TLDR: a calmer, yummier version of Sightglass, me thinks Longer: Back in 2018 I worked next door to Sightglass. My office was one of those ~cool~ smoke&mirrors VC backed startups with the lofted, exposed beam ceilings, entirely open floor plan, fire hazard phone booths for "privacy" (LOL). Suffice to say, noise canceling f head phones can only do so much for someone with ADHD in that kinda wide open environment, so I spent a lot of time at Sightglass. Man, do I wish Sextant was in its current location way back then, I would have spent a lot less time at SG (I don't even like most of their roasts LOL) We were (finally) headed to Bageletto after a long, tiring, early AM doc appt, but first needed coffee from a place that specializes in coffee (not bagels). Enter: Sextant. It was on our way, and thanks to my poor directions, we had to circle the block once. Thankfully, there was ample parking across the street. We were greeted when we entered, but it took us a minute to realize we ordered on a tablet. My eyes were dilated and I am half blind currently, but it didn't seem clear to me that it was self service kiosk. Boyfriend's mocha was yummy - made with rich dark chocolate -- and my capp hit the spot for me. Roast was flavorful and not too light. Boyfriend says he'll be back to do computer stuff next time he needs a change of scenery. We will be back!
The barista let me add ube syrup to my americano and it was great! Perfect amount of sweetness and very delicious! The back patio is adorable and has plenty of tables, but the bathroom is super weird and the sink wasn't working so I had to wash my hands behind the barista counter. Also, didn't love ordering via kiosk only
I wanted to try to Wired Gandhi which is espresso & chai but $7.50 plus $1 for oat milk is just too expensive in my opinion. I asked for extra hot and the drink was perfect & yummy but cant justice the price. With tip it is a $10 cup of 12oz coffee. The place is super cute and has plenty tables and there is a patio outside and the best part, the place is super quiet. CC accepted.
Cool classy vibe with vast ceilings. You'll see. Far more spacious than your average SF coffee locale. Emphasis on African beans. Mostly a self-service kiosk that requires a bit of focus the first time. Excellent flavor in everything. Do not neglect to try a ginger cookie when they are available.
I ordered a mocha, and loved the chocolate blend with the espresso, it's a mocha that i would go again to have. Service was good overall, i'm not a big fan of ordering on the screen because it lacks the human contact, it's one way for businesses to save money instead of hiring more employees. I could tell the barista was overwhelmed but his mocha was superb. The ambience is great, loved the design and seating, I don't go much to cafe that don't have outlets, i understand the business purpose behind it but I won't be going there again to drink and sit unless i want something on the go. I like sitting in a cafe and be able to plug my laptop and finsih my work
This place was cute! Great service, ambiance was nice. Fair amount of seating, outdoor patio option. If you want to come here to work, however, theres a lack of outlets. My drink with tip came out to $10.95 for a smol little iced matcha. Kinda expensive not gonna lie.......also I love matcha, its how I gauge new places. The matcha here was not too flavorful nor did it rly have that matcha taste? I wanted to like it, but maybe I just got the wrong thing. Perhaps their other coffee options are better. Nonetheless i dont think this place is bad by all means, I just need to try other things on the menu.
City prices prepare for you just about everything. So, when you go outside SF, nearly everything seems like a bargain. Ok, maybe not the $18 Erewhon smoothies in SoCal. Anyways, I was surprised that Sextant's Matcha Latte is $9...before tax and tip: https://tinyurl.com/3wep2trs. OOOF. It was worth it tho! If you're a matcha drinker, then you know how hard it is to find a solid matcha latte that isn't just green colored milk. Maybe I've been going to the wrong places but in my experience, more than 60-70% of cafes serve watered down matcha lattes. While Sextant is a third-wave coffeehouse specializing in Ethiopian coffee (house roasted beans), they make a damn solid Matcha Latte that's hand whisked to order. Strong vegetal flavor, not too bitter and the oat milk adds creamy body and kiss of sweetness. It gave me the calm alertness that I crave. And, while not something I can afford on the daily, I rather spend $9 on a matcha latte that I enjoy 1-2x a week than $6 on one that I have to toss. Service is top-notch from Miguel. Even though you order from a kiosk, he welcomes you in and asks if you have any questions. And...they have a quaint back patio that I was able to take a 45 minute call without disrupting others. And....they're dog-friendly. Happy that they're expanding to The Mission soon!
Needed caffeine asap after getting off at 16th & Mission! Happened upon this place! 11am on a Saturday and it was pretty empty but a nice quiet spot. Ordered at the kiosk. Only one employee but drinks came out quick. Iced matcha lavender latter was pretty good- did the job! Also used their customer restroom, which was nice that they even had it. Seems like they have some unique flavors, would be interested in trying. read more
I can't say much about the food there but the coffee was good, I'd say about a 7/10. The service was swift and nice, moderate. The environment was quiet, well as quiet as downtown sf can be. Side note: perfect for a quick coffee read more

truly a gem in the heart of soma! their beans are excellent, sourced from ethiopia and roasted right there in house! there aren't many roasters, especially black owned roasters in the bay. kinani is sooo knowledgeable about coffee and the industry as a whole. the drink menu is a decent size, there's a little something for everyone. coffee, matcha, chai, dirty chai (or the wired gandhi as they call it). there's also canned beverages and warm pastries available. the space is cozy, with seats nestled along the brick wall. and there's a peaceful backyard - my favorite place to enjoy my beverage. read more

Excellent beans, coffee, food and service. Ethiopian beans (pour over and latte) were exceptional. Also the store is close to Costco, has a nice interior and a small place out back if you don't want to be indoors. Only weird thing was the bathroom. All automated, and the light around the mirror flashed nonstop. Could also have been cleaner for as early as we were there. read more

My brother mentioned Sextant was his favorite coffee spot in the city so of course I had to stop by with him during my trip to SF. We biked to this spot on an early Saturday afternoon and it wasn't too busy. The spot was cute, definitely had an industrial vibe going on, as well as maybe some renovation. You order at the kiosk and the baristas prepare your order. I ordered a mocha with oat milk. The coffee art design was super pretty on each of the drinks, as pictured below. The drink was a bit lighter than I was expecting, as I usually like my coffees with a bit of a kick and more flavor, but it wasn't too bad. We also ordered some pastries, the turkey and cheese croissant, guava danish pastry, and chocolate chip cookie. The pastries were super all super crisp and you could see and taste the individual layers. For the guava danish pastry, the filling was all located in the center so for 80% of the time you're really just biting into plain pastry as opposed to the fruity, creamy part (the best part). There's a small patio outside in the back which is nice on a sunny day. read more

Good find while in the area. The coffee is delicious I highly recommend it the roast they do is very good. I had a morning bun and they have some great pastries. The menu doesn't have prices and the bathroom was a little dirty. They play pretty loud music so it might not be the best place for a quiet conversation. Nice staff and overall great coffee. read more

This is a cute spot and definitely gives the coffee roaster vibes in its name. Owner and employees were friendly. You order from a tablet but it seems that is just mainly for payment so they can focus on making the drinks. There is surprisingly plenty of seating indoor and outdoors. No outlets, but you can definitely come with your device charged and it is quite comfortable. Matcha latte was mid maybe a 2-3/5, did not really taste matcha and tasted mostly like milk. I didn't try the coffee but I would recommend that you stick with those. read more

Got lucky with a local coffee shop within two blocks of where we were staying. Darker wood rustic feel which with sots life of green plants to make it feel so welcoming. There is a back patio with a few seats that look like a few more would fit. When the weather is great, this is a good option. The sun was out after the morning fog dissipated, so the skylights sharing the sunlight were appreciated. The ordering is done though tablets and the baristas get right to the fulfillment. The stream of people was easy and consistent the Wednesday morning I was there. Everyone was relaxed and enjoying the day, work or not waiting for them. The music was pleasant with just the right liveliness for the day and not overpowering in volume level. Sat with a pretzel sticky bun and two iced teas reading my book at a two-top table. So enjoyable on my day off. The only thing I would like to see is more food offerings. Highly recommend. read more

I'd always driven by this place and wanted to try their coffee. It wasn't busy at all on a Sunday morning. When you first walk in there is a menu on the board but the barista suggested we use the tablet kiosks for self-ordering to see their full menu. He also gave us a recommendation to try the Wired Gandhi, Sextant's iteration of a dirty chai. And so I did! The coffee was pretty delicious. My bf also got a regular latte which he enjoyed as well. We split a sticky bun from their pastry counter which was chock full of nuts and dried currants. While tasty, it wasn't the freshest so I'd give it a solid 3 stars. I did notice when we were finished, another kind employee asking other customers if they wanted their pastries heated up though, and I think that would have benefited it well. There are a few small tables for indoor seating and one outside as well, but it wasn't too crowded so I think it should be relatively easy to grab one. I did love the loft-like interior. It was quiet cozy and well-lit inside. Parking wasn't a problem either. You'll have to street park of course, perhaps a block or two away, but it wasn't nearly as crazy as some other neighborhoods in the city. Highly recommend trying the Wired Gandhi! read more
