Cute little cafe tucked away in the TL! The location is pretty unassuming, so if you're in the area, it's worth stopping by. I was greeted upon arrival and received friendly service throughout my visit. They offer a nice variety of drinks and breakfast items, making it a convenient spot for anyone working near City Hall. I tried the Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte and the Einspanner. Both were enjoyable, nothing to complain about, but neither stood out as particularly memorable. really friendly barista, we chatted quite a bit! I wish the menu had prices, but loved that there were lots of seasonal and specialty drinks. I got the strawberry matcha ($8.96 post tax) which is quite pricey compared to other spots. the matcha is from LA and by itself was decent but I wish there was more compared to the amount of milk. the strawberry was yummy, and not too much so it wasn't too sweet. the coffee is from la cabra so I'll come back to try other drinks! read more

I enjoy the latte. First time I was here the NB barista had me try my latte before I left. Great service. Most baristas are great, the white man is unfriendly. He seems miserable. This is a fantastic cafe so close to City Hall! I will be coming here every time I'm in the area. The specialty lattes like strawberry matcha, espresso tonic, and lavender latte are well-prepared and delicious. I also tried the Everything Bagel Sandwich that was so filling. The owner is really dedicated to his craft and grew up in the City. I can't wait to see what other seasonal drinks he will come up with. Really cool space for location! I go here twice a week! A niche coffee stop right next to the hotel. You get what you pay for and I enjoy either the chai oat latte or oat matcha latte, with order of oats, raisins, and bananas. Caring, kind people pouring the heart and love into every cup and the flavor of the coffee shows. We stopped by here for an early afternoon coffee. The store is cozy and relatively small; there are like 3-4 seats along the wall for you to sit at! They don't have specialty drinks, so I just got a cappuccino. It was honestly super delicious; very flavorful, but also balanced. Not too bitter or dark, and quite creamy as well. Since there's not a place to hang out or any special drinks, I don't see myself going out of my way to come back. If I'm in the area and craving coffee though, will definitely make a stop! read more

This man is so inviting and goddamn cool! He took the time to ask us about ourselves and tell us about him, too! He is the definition of hospitality and I am very honored to have met him. The iced chai and dirty chai I got was flawless! Nice, concentrated Chai flavor with no bullshit. My croissant was top tier, flaky and buttery with a decadent banana filling! I come to San Fran every week for school and my building doesn't open until 8 so I usually come in for a pastry. They do not have hours of operation posted so they come in various times before 8. Today I got a smoothie and all their smoothies come with Almond Milk SILK. I can only drink the regular almond milk. I did not ask before I ordered so when I went back to exchange it they didn't have any other replacements, the woman at the counter asked me to pay to remake one with water. I asked for a refund of $7 and she said she would have to get in contact with the manager. So I'm stuck with an allergic reaction and no breakfast. Yeah, I won't be coming back here. read more

Unexpected Era is clearly a local mom and pop shop that I would come and support again. A hole-in-the-wall coffee shop with friendly staff, good quality drinks, and friendly staff. The owners clearly did their research on how to make a good drink. The matcha is legit and is made with a proper japanese matcha whisk. The cardamom latte is also quite pleasant It would be helpful to add the melted agave and expresso blend after the milk and ice instead of before to incorporate the syrup with the milk more easily. Other than that this was a solid cafe I wouldn't hesitate to go to again--just watch your step coming in! read more
