Wow! I can't believe this is my first time here. A sip of the matcha latte and I was instantly transported back to Japan. And that creamy matcha pie with yuzu cream topping, ahhhh I wanna buy a whole pie for my friend's bday. It's so silky I love it! Also, had the crispy fish sando, yummy!!Everything I got on my first visit was amazing. The staff is cool and the cashier is very friendly and patient with my inquiries. Definitely will come back with my girlfriends.

I've been wanting to try this place for a while because of all the hype. It was fine for a quick matcha fix but didn't blow me away. We got the strawberry matcha latte and the hojicha palmer which were ok but the Matcha Cream Pie was the highlight with the light lemony notes in the cream. The strawberry latte was giving tart thick milk and I could barely taste the matcha. The hojicha palmer tasted like Korean pomelo tea - I think they use that marmalade in it - and again I couldn't taste the roasty aromatic notes of hojicha that I love. Note that they seat you, you don't seat yourself.

Although I ordered a matcha latte to takeaway, clearly everyone else had a different memo! The café was full of couples eating, drinking matcha and chatting away - and the doors hadn't been opened for long! My matcha latte was very flavorful (grassy & bitter) and beautifully shamrock green. Oat milk was the only alternative milk so I chose it. The female cashier seemed hurried to take my order then shoo me outside - annoying since it was still chilly. But I could see she was doing double duty as a server and cashier (dealing with walk-in customers and delivery pick ups). Luckily, I didn't wait long for my matcha latte. A Plus: One of the two the outside folding tables was available - yay! Stonemill Matcha is one of the few cafe's focused on matcha with a lovely indoor café space...if only I had time to stay & relax.

This is a special place and somewhat a special day to enjoy a ginger matcha. I was surprised that it was luke warm, not scorching hot.. I know the matcha is authentic. I was lined up behind two ladies. We all paused and looked at the outside menu. I decided to use the QR code. Sat outside and submitted my order. Lots of people were waiting outside for their order. Got our order through the window.

3.5 Stars This a cute spot in mission that serves matcha drinks, sandos, and sweet treats. The basque cheesecake was fluffy and good. I also enjoyed the iced matcha latte. Order at the counter, and they bring your food out to you.

Came for matcha and was disappointed. Busy dine in area and line outside. Ordered for take out and the drink comes out quick. ~2 minutes. Option to mobile order as well. I got the strawberry matcha and the seasonal lavender matcha. Both drinks were bitter and tasted watered down. Default sweetness was not too sweet but the matcha didn't have the creaminess even with regular milk. Strawberry puree was good but not enough to carry the diluted matcha. The matcha cream pie was solid. Soft matcha filling with very crispy edge. Whipped cream on top was also tasty. Would not come back here for the matcha. Maybe their food is better. With matcha coming out that quick feels like it wasn't prepared well and lost its quality. Street parking here or parking garage next street over.

Yuzu Fish Katsu Sando- Filling flavorful sandwhich. The fish was crispy and not dry. The sauce complimented the fish well. Though I was not able to taste much yuzu. Suspect that is it got drowned out by all the other flavors. A nice alternative to the usual food they offer Hojicha Latte- . Compared to most places that offer this, this place is one of my favorites. I feel the quality of the tea they use is pretty good. Overall a nice place to sit down and enjoy a meal. Though even with just a drink it will be just as good. Always looking forward to coming here

Came here to try the Japanese breakfast! They only offer it on weekdays for dine in only and they have a limited quantity, so be sure to come early. Our group came around 1pm and was able to grab the last 3 sets. Our party of 6 was able to share the 3 sets and feel relatively full. There was a range of dishes, of the selection the tempura and the silky eat was quite delicious. We found the Napa to be a bit floral for our taste but a perfect palette cleanser. The staff were the sweetest and combined tables together to let our party sit together. They even put a candle in the matcha tart for my birthday!

This was our second visit to Stonemill Matcha, and while the food remains a highlight, the drinks continue to fall short. During our first visit around Valentine's Day, the Chicken Katsu Sando was a standout--perfectly fried, non-greasy, and flavorful. The Strawberry Matcha Cream Pie was also excellent, featuring an airy texture and just the right amount of sweetness. On our most recent trip, we tried the new Teriyaki Katsu Sando; the addition of egg salad added a wonderful complexity to the flavor. While the original Katsu Sando this time was a bit smothered in sauce, the chicken itself remained impressively crispy. We also tried the Matcha Chestnut Roll, which was decent, though the standard Matcha Cream Pie felt much heavier and sweeter than the seasonal strawberry version we loved previously. Unfortunately, the drinks remain the weak point. Both the Ginger and Rose Matcha from our first visit and the Hojicha Latte from today were disappointingly watery and lacked a robust tea flavor. Great for a meal, but perhaps not the best spot if you're looking for a strong brew.

D1 always with a list of matcha places she wants to try. Next up Stonemill Matcha on Valencia St in San Francisco. Thankfully we found parking right away. Her friend marked this in her top 5 matcha spots in San Francisco so we had to give it a try. The cashier was either in a bad mood or she's just like that, but we weren't impressed. Her presence and attitude already put us off. Anyhow we ordered 2 strawberry matchas and a hojicha palmer. Everything tasted watered down. And the hojicha palmer was more lemonade than anything. At least we can say we tried it and it's definitely not in our top 5.

First time trying this location and had high hopes because I've heard the quality of the matcha is amazing. However, in terms of experiences, I've heard very mixed reviews. One of my friends went a couple months ago and ordered a drink where they do the beautiful presentation of creating the drink in front of you. She recorded the presentation but when the server delivered the drink to her table, he slammed the drinks and said "Next time, ask before you record." She was in shock and apologized and deleted the video. However, when she went on their social medias, she saw that Stonemill Matcha had been actively reposting and promoting customer-recorded videos of the same presentation....... So upon hearing this, I kept my expectations low when I went to try this location. I ordered an Iced Ginger Matcha and Iced Strawberry Matcha. The wait was not too long (~5 minutes). However, the pickup experience was off-putting. The customer in front of me came up to the pickup window because she heard her name called and she received the email saying her order was ready. Unfortunately, there was another customer by the same name who had ordered food, and that was the order that was actually ready. It was a misunderstanding, but the server at the window snarkily said "This order is food." Even though the girl only came up to the window because her name was called and she received an "Order Ready" email.... Oh the cherry on top was that my ginger matcha was made wrong and had no ginger! LOOOOL. I gaslighted myself into thinking the ginger was just really light or something but upon reading reviews, customers were blown away by how strong the ginger was. The strawberry matcha my friend got was good though. Matcha taste is strong. Overall, not the best experience especially due to the rude customer service.

    Tina T.

I got the Rose Matcha Latte with 25% sweetness, but barely tasted the rose or any sweetness. And the matcha tasted more on the bitter side. The interior is such a vibe though. I would've loved to stay and eat or chill here if parking wasn't an issue.

    Laura J.

We came after lunch for dessert, it was a little bit busy but we got seated within 15 minutes. The waiter kind of forgot about us, so we were left sitting awkwardly for a while before we flagged someone down, but not huge deal since they were full. We ordered the matcha cream pie and the sencha brewed tea. The matcha cream pie was light and fluffy, it was not too sweet in the beginning but as you eat on it definitely gets sweeter and sweeter. It was nice sharing and pairing it with the green tea. I wouldn't say it has a strong matcha flavor more of a lighter and sweeter matcha note. The sencha was brewed in a glass pot and not a traditional kyusu that I thought it might come with. I thought it was a bit over brewed since it had a bitter note to it but still tasted great with a strong grassy and sweet taste.

Hello! I hat vegan options does this place have?

    Are you open for takeout?

Yes, they are. You can order online or in person

Are they open on July 4th? Thinking to preorder a cake and pick up that day

As it will be a holiday, there's a 50% chance it will be open. I suggest to call the store to find out the availability on that day.

When do they serve strawberry daifuku? I read that they only serve the matcha mochi on weekends, so is the strawberry seasonal and only weekends as well?

they don't have it this year yet - the rep said they are unsure whether they will roll it out and mentioned to check Instagram for any updates. as of now, they do not have a set schedule or plans to offer this item.

They have outdoor seats but I'm guessing no dogos welcome inside

Is it always busy and crowded? When are their slow business times?

For me, its always busy weekends with a line out the door. Pretty slow on weekday mornings with empty tables

What time is the Last order?

I've come in at 5:50pm, 10 minutes before they closed, and they took my order.

    Is this cafe work/study friendly?

Not really...usually super busy and during busy times they have a rule where you can't use a laptop. Maybe during their "slow" times but they've been so popular, I haven't been when it's slow.

Is it crowded at around 4:30-5:00pm?

Always a line but workers are efficient and goes by quick

The teacup steamed egg was presented well but for the price nothing really that special. I suspect the price is high because of the caviar & ikura. It's not bad, but it takes a while, it's small and not anything that stood out like the agedashi tofu or the other items. The service was really good. They provided a small dessert for us because we were celebrating an event, that was a nice touch. Overall, id come back but maybe not for an omakase or just nigiri.

Beer was $5 and cocktails were $12. The cocktails were quite yummy. Karaage 6/10- chicken was good, but sauce was too smoky for me Fried ika 9.5/10- the sauce was amazing and we pretty much used the sauce for everything else Sashimi taco 5/10- a little bland, could use more acidity Wagyu kimchi dumpling 7/10- it was good but I couldn't taste the kimchi Edamame- regular one is much better than spicy! Truffle parmesan fries 9/10- honestly can't go wrong with truffle fries But the best dish of the night was actually one of the main courses on the standard dinner menu - yuzu miso marinated black cod. It was soo flaky and tender and the sauce was amazing. A good date spot with the dim lighting for anyone looking to enjoy moderately priced happy hour.

The service was decent, but nothing special and felt distant. While they wished us happy anniversary, there was no complimentary dessert, glass wine, decoration, etc. Which is okay, some places do and some don't. We ordered a couple of appetizers, a carafe of sake, and a couple of entrees and there was some difficulty and confusion with the order in which the dishes came out, which wasn't a big deal, just as little out of sync with the meal. The appetizers were great, I had the edamame which were perfectly cooked and salted, and my wife loved her rolls and sushi. My steak was beautiful, the presentation was immaculate, and the garnishes were delicious and overall tasted good, but there was something about the combination or maybe the chimichirri sauce that didn't quite hit as there was no high note, just a good baseline steak. I also ordered the sweet corn and that was simply amazing, the flavors were outstanding and utterly delicious. Overall a good dinner, but it didn't really feel like a $300 experience. I probably wouldn't return at that value.

The gyudon was excellent with a lightly sweet and savory flavor, I'd definitely get this again! The Hokkaido cheesecake was light and had what seemed like whipped cream in it which isn't my preference for cheesecake so I would skip this item next time. You put your name and number of people in your party at the list on the door, but the wait goes bye fairly quick. They have indoor and some outdoor seating. We loved their entree items and would definitely come back here!

Willing to answer questions and explain specifics. The menu is okay, not a huge selection but has the classics to pick from. Gyudon, savory and sweet, slightly fatty. Good bed of rice with sauce, a solid dish, however did not blow me away. The ginger and soy flavor were good. but was a bit bland without the sauce. Mentaiko Spaghetti, i love mentaiko, i wish it was just a bit prominent. It was still tasty and rich, just not enough mentaiko for me personally. Portion is alright, a bit on the smaller side. Great spot with good takes on the dishes, i don't regret coming and i may come back to try other dishes!

We walked into a refined but welcoming space where the sushi counter is the main focus, and the meal unfolds course by course in front of us. There is a sense of calm throughout the room, allowing the attention to stay on the chefs, the ingredients, and the details behind each dish without the distraction of a busy dining room. The omakase experience balances traditional sushi with more creative touches. Each course brings something different, from fresh sashimi and nigiri to warmer dishes like chawan mushi that add depth to the progression of the meal. The sushi highlights the quality of the fish while incorporating thoughtful flavor combinations, with dishes like scallop and the dry-aged fish courses standing out for their texture and seasoning. The sake pairing fits naturally into the experience, adding another layer without overpowering the food, and the sommelier's selections complement the progression of flavors across the meal. What makes Kusakabe memorable is the craftsmanship and pacing of the meal. The chefs take time to explain each course, making the experience feel personal rather than rushed. Sitting at the counter adds to the atmosphere because you get to see the precision and care that goes into every piece, from the way the rice is formed to the final brush of sauce on the fish. The pacing of the meal allows you to appreciate each course without feeling rushed, and the team's attention to detail creates a rhythm that keeps the meal engaging from start to finish. Kusakabe feels like a place made for special occasions, celebrations, or anyone looking for a more elevated Japanese dining experience. It combines technique, hospitality, and creativity in a way that makes the entire meal feel like an event rather than just a dinner. The balance of traditional and modern elements, along with the warmth of the service, leaves you with the sense of having experienced something complete and thoughtfully composed.

What an experience! We were celebrating an anniversary and planned a bit last minute, but were able…read moreto snag a reservation here pretty easily. Immediately, the ambiance and service was quite nice. We were seated at the table, but typically I enjoy sitting at the bar to watch the chefs make our food. The service was amazing and they were very attentive. They also offered to take photos and gave us a little gift of hojicha tea since we were celebrating. We got the omakase, which was massive and had 18 courses. They gave us a menu so we knew what to expect for each course, and we ordered some sake. The omakase was delicious and more traditional than other places, each course was so beautiful and delicately made. This is definitely a lot of food, I would recommend the petite omakase in the future as I was stuffed, but it was a great experience if you come hungry! Courses: - Chawan-mushi - super tasty and every bite was delicious and umami forward! - Otsumami - 7 seasonal appetizers presented in a beautiful box, there was a stuffed crab claw in there that was delicious - 4 kinds of sushi - each piece came out one at a time, the first piece was my absolute favorite and blew me away, it was a seared chutoro that immediately melts in your mouth and tastes smokey - Hamachi soup - very tasty and warming soup with hamachi inside, was perfect in between the sushi course - 4 kinds of sushi - A5 Waguyu shabu - this course was extra $10 pp but was so delicious, the wagyu was melt in your mouth and had some grated daikon on top in a ponzu dashi, the toppings help balance the meat so it's overwhelming since it does melt in your mouth, one of my favorite bites! - 4 kind of sushi - they brought out some really great sushis, including more chutoro and an unagi handroll, but I was so stuffed at this point that I felt I couldn't enjoy it as much - miso soup - this soup was so tasty and kind of revived me after all that food, it felt comforting and a great way to end - dessert- I got the hojicha ice cream in a waffle like cookie and it was delicious!
