Yuzu Fish Katsu Sando and Hojicha Latte
Wesley L.

Yuzu Fish Katsu Sando- Filling flavorful sandwhich. The fish was crispy and not dry. The sauce complimented the fish well. Though I was not able to taste much yuzu. Suspect that is it got drowned out by all the other flavors. A nice alternative to the usual food they offer Hojicha Latte- . Compared to most places that offer this, this place is one of my favorites. I feel the quality of the tea they use is pretty good. Overall a nice place to sit down and enjoy a meal. Though even with just a drink it will be just as good. Always looking forward to coming here

3.5 Stars This a cute spot in mission that serves matcha drinks, sandos, and sweet treats. The basque cheesecake was fluffy and good. I also enjoyed the iced matcha latte. Order at the counter, and they bring your food out to you.

This was our second visit to Stonemill Matcha, and while the food remains a highlight, the drinks continue to fall short. During our first visit around Valentine's Day, the Chicken Katsu Sando was a standout--perfectly fried, non-greasy, and flavorful. The Strawberry Matcha Cream Pie was also excellent, featuring an airy texture and just the right amount of sweetness. On our most recent trip, we tried the new Teriyaki Katsu Sando; the addition of egg salad added a wonderful complexity to the flavor. While the original Katsu Sando this time was a bit smothered in sauce, the chicken itself remained impressively crispy. We also tried the Matcha Chestnut Roll, which was decent, though the standard Matcha Cream Pie felt much heavier and sweeter than the seasonal strawberry version we loved previously. Unfortunately, the drinks remain the weak point. Both the Ginger and Rose Matcha from our first visit and the Hojicha Latte from today were disappointingly watery and lacked a robust tea flavor. Great for a meal, but perhaps not the best spot if you're looking for a strong brew.

D1 always with a list of matcha places she wants to try. Next up Stonemill Matcha on Valencia St in San Francisco. Thankfully we found parking right away. Her friend marked this in her top 5 matcha spots in San Francisco so we had to give it a try. The cashier was either in a bad mood or she's just like that, but we weren't impressed. Her presence and attitude already put us off. Anyhow we ordered 2 strawberry matchas and a hojicha palmer. Everything tasted watered down. And the hojicha palmer was more lemonade than anything. At least we can say we tried it and it's definitely not in our top 5.

First time trying this location and had high hopes because I've heard the quality of the matcha is amazing. However, in terms of experiences, I've heard very mixed reviews. One of my friends went a couple months ago and ordered a drink where they do the beautiful presentation of creating the drink in front of you. She recorded the presentation but when the server delivered the drink to her table, he slammed the drinks and said "Next time, ask before you record." She was in shock and apologized and deleted the video. However, when she went on their social medias, she saw that Stonemill Matcha had been actively reposting and promoting customer-recorded videos of the same presentation....... So upon hearing this, I kept my expectations low when I went to try this location. I ordered an Iced Ginger Matcha and Iced Strawberry Matcha. The wait was not too long (~5 minutes). However, the pickup experience was off-putting. The customer in front of me came up to the pickup window because she heard her name called and she received the email saying her order was ready. Unfortunately, there was another customer by the same name who had ordered food, and that was the order that was actually ready. It was a misunderstanding, but the server at the window snarkily said "This order is food." Even though the girl only came up to the window because her name was called and she received an "Order Ready" email.... Oh the cherry on top was that my ginger matcha was made wrong and had no ginger! LOOOOL. I gaslighted myself into thinking the ginger was just really light or something but upon reading reviews, customers were blown away by how strong the ginger was. The strawberry matcha my friend got was good though. Matcha taste is strong. Overall, not the best experience especially due to the rude customer service.

I love the vibe in here, the cafe is great for friends and small groups. We ordered and were given a table which was really nice. However, the matcha was very chalky. For that reason I unfortunately have to give it this rating. I think that it was hard to drink at the end as the matcha sat at the bottom of the cup. The flavors were also lacking as this was a strawberry matcha with no frills. My matcha was a darker shade than my friends and the quality between our drinks was very different. Her latte was a lot more milk than mine. (Pictured below)

I got the Rose Matcha Latte with 25% sweetness, but barely tasted the rose or any sweetness. And the matcha tasted more on the bitter side. The interior is such a vibe though. I would've loved to stay and eat or chill here if parking wasn't an issue.

Went on a Sunday noon and it there was a good amount of people. We did dine in and the wait was around 10 minutes. They have a lot of space in their dining area and a great place to relax. We ordered the rose matcha latte, matcha cream pie, and pork katsu sandwich. Rose Matcha Latte:4/5: The matcha overall was really good and you can really taste a hint of rose. I do notice that the matcha is a bit grainy. Matcha cream pie: 5/5: My favorite dish that we ordered! It was really good! Pork Katsu: 5/5: It was really good. They also use a big chuck of pork in each sandwich.

We came after lunch for dessert, it was a little bit busy but we got seated within 15 minutes. The waiter kind of forgot about us, so we were left sitting awkwardly for a while before we flagged someone down, but not huge deal since they were full. We ordered the matcha cream pie and the sencha brewed tea. The matcha cream pie was light and fluffy, it was not too sweet in the beginning but as you eat on it definitely gets sweeter and sweeter. It was nice sharing and pairing it with the green tea. I wouldn't say it has a strong matcha flavor more of a lighter and sweeter matcha note. The sencha was brewed in a glass pot and not a traditional kyusu that I thought it might come with. I thought it was a bit over brewed since it had a bitter note to it but still tasted great with a strong grassy and sweet taste.

Really cute Japanese aesthetics, quiet but it does have background music, with decent amount of seating. Good place to work. Self serve water, to go containers, and cutlery. If they are not busy, your server will bring you water. Dining in, make sure your party is ready and you order before you sit. There's also to go and a separate window outside where they hand you your order. Staff are nice and friendly. I ordered the yuzu fish sando which the fried fish was really crispy on the outside and very smooth and juicy on the inside, cooked to perfection. The milk bread was soft and the yuzu sauce was light, citrusy, and appetizing. I also got the seasonal iced lavender matcha latte (May 2026) that had a strong matcha flavor and notes of lavender with actual flowers on the top. Lastly, I got the matcha cream pie which really stood out to me on the menu since it was so unique. It was very smooth, creamy, flaky crust, and not too sweet. It also held its composure really well as everything came at once and I ate it last. No wait around 2pm on a Friday, parking is a hit or miss, there's street parking with meters but if you go on the side streets, there's also free residential parking.

I came to Stonemill Matcha recently to try their Japanese Gozen or Japanese breakfast which is weekdays only for now. I love a Japanese meal set and this one was the perfect combo for a delicious and healthy lunch. The breakfast set came with soy marinated salmon belly and ikura, dashi turnip and pork, veggie tempura, crab chawanmushi, pickled cabbage and miso mushrooms served with seasoned rice w/crispy anchovies and miso soup. All the dishes complemented one another and the salmon sashimi and braised turnip and pork were especially yummy. I loved that overall it was a pretty light but very flavorful meal. I got a sparkling matcha with yuzu and brown sugar added to pair with the gozen which was refreshing with the hint of citrus and bit of sweetness. Definitely try the limited gozen set and try to come earlier in the day as I saw it's been sold out before 1pm before!

One of my favorite cafes in San Francisco and the best place for a katsu sando! I brought a group of out-of-town friends here on a Saturday morning and we waited about 30-40 minutes for a table. It was a lot shorter than the estimated wait so we were quite happy!! We each ordered a drink, some of my friends got strawberry matcha or hojicha, and I got the black sesame latte. HIGHLY recommend if you like black sesame, the flavor was spot on. We also ordered both the pork tonkatsu and chicken katsu sandos to split, so each of us could try a little of everything. Everything was so tasty and the portions are very generous. My friends raved about the sandos for weeks afterwards! Each sandwich has a unique flavor profile so definitely try both as they are different! My friend who ordered her matcha with oat milk did say it was a bit grainy, do keep that in mind if ordering a drink with alternative milk!

Matcha cream pie and cheese cake were good but not the best I have had. The cashier staff was quite rude when I asked questions :( I won't visit again!

Staff was friendly and I appreciate that they were informative about the macchiato being different than how Starbucks does it. Our drinks were freshly made and ready in 5 mins. Size of the macchiato was definitely a lot smaller than I realized but the coffee was nice and bold. Both drinks allowed us to appreciate the pure coffee bean taste without being too bitter. Looking forward to coming back and trying the popular kopi pandan!
